Hi Ladies,

Can I just ask how many cycles you had to go through until you got your BFPs??

Thanks in advance x x

Hi there - this thread is a little old. If you want to find out how long it takes to get pregnant, we’ve got more information here. MNHQ

2nd cycle with DS, 1st with this pg although no active 'trying' either time, just stopped actively trying not to!

Dolallytats · 17/07/2013 10:58

DC1 took a couple of weeks.
DC2 took 15 years (!!).
Currently 39+2 with DC3, took 5 years.

undertheboredwalk · 17/07/2013 11:02

Dd1 was complete surprise, was using condoms.
Dd2 conceived on 6th cycle.
Currently about 10 weeks with no 3, conceived on 3rd cycle of trying.

We've been very lucky, and are very thankful for it!

MortifiedAdams · 17/07/2013 11:02

First pg I had one period; had been off the pill for a year and using condoms. The month we conceived we DTD every other day. Was 26, 27 at birth

Am.now pg again, dd is 19mo. Trying in the loosest possible sense (no protection, standard once a week shagging or so), have had three periods.

Took folic acid from the day we started TTC with dc1, but totally forgot about it this time round til I got my BFP and realised.

GiraffeAHolic · 17/07/2013 11:08

2 years for dd
2 years for ds
2 months for current bump.

Have PCOS though.

yoyoyo · 17/07/2013 11:09

2 months first time
Second time it took 12 months which was miscarried & 18 months after that

CylonNumber6 · 17/07/2013 11:11

11 months

stillwaters76 · 17/07/2013 11:13

tried for 18 months for first, then had IVF due to medical issue they found and was successful.
Assumed we couldn't conceive naturally so didn't try, and got pregnant when DS was 12 months old.

EeyoreIsh · 17/07/2013 11:15

cheese no offence taken Smile it makes sense to do all you can to make your body ready to get pregnant.

MrsBungle · 17/07/2013 11:16

First cycle with both of mine. We didn't do anything to try and improve our chances. We were just lucky.

moominmaiden · 17/07/2013 11:17

First cycle with first pregnancy, which sadly ended in miscarriage. Current pregnancy I think about four or five cycles, although we weren't 'trying' as such - just not using contraception. In fact neither of us remember having sex in the month DS was conceived as we had a lot going on with a family bereavement - was stunned and a little mystified by the BFP!

CunningAtBothEnds · 17/07/2013 11:17

Ds1 14 months Ds2 26 months

25sunshine · 17/07/2013 11:18

18 mths with DD1 and 14mths with DS2. Both times the long wait was massively frustrating. In both cases I conceived on the first cycle after having my tubes checked (injected with dye which is pumped through to see if there are blockages). Both times the answer was that my tubes are absolutely fine, however the 'blasting' with the dye clearly had an impact. GP says that there is no scientific evidence but some women suffer from a 'fuzzing up' of the tubes, which appears to be removed by this procedure (i.e. not the purpose of the procedure, just a side effect - but I'm not complaining). Unfortunately when you go to the GP they typically advise to leave it for another 6 months, which can be frustrating. If you've been trying for at least 6 months you need to be quite forceful to be put onto fertility investigations to be able to have these tests (and then there's a wait of at least 3-6 months) - and your other half will have to co-operate because they say (not unreasonably) that it could equally easily be his problem.

Alternatively you can have it done privately (HyCoSy) and I think it costs around £500.

Five cycles, I used ovulation kits and conceive plus when we did conceive. Not convinced it wouldn't have happened otherwise, but was doing things to try and make me feel like I had some sort of input into it all...

Mayanbob · 17/07/2013 11:32

7 months... but there wasn't a great deal of sex in the first 5 of those. Cycles were all over the place, so only had about 5 in that 7 months. I was 31 when I conceived, just turned 32 and due in 5 weeks. (holy crap! Shock)

StormyBrid · 17/07/2013 11:43

Just the one cycle - swapped the pill for folic acid on May 10th, BFP July 4th, so conceived after about five weeks. Was lucky though; really hadn't expected it to be so quick.

fluffandnonsense · 17/07/2013 11:45

1st baby was 2 cycles, 2nd baby was 2 cycles, 3rd pregnancy (ended in mc), pregnant 1st cycle (only DTD once), 4th pregnancy (currently 11 weeks) pregnant 1st cycle again. Wink

FromagePlease · 17/07/2013 11:57

3 cycles for us.

I had been using OPKs but switched to temp charting as I found it much more informative and accurate. We got our BFP on first cycle of charting. We feel very fortunate indeed.

GiveMeVegemite · 17/07/2013 12:09

4 months with DS1 and then one cycle with DS2 (the first period I had after giving birth!) so there will be a 15 month gap between them as it took 5 months to get my period after giving birth. I have PCOS too, so was told I would need fertility treatment, but it happened naturally.

InsanelyBrainDeprived · 17/07/2013 12:12

7 years for first, first cycle for sec

Amibambini · 17/07/2013 12:14

First time. Was quite the surprise. My partner had convinced me to start trying sooner rather than later because 'you never know how long it will take, it could take us ages..".

Two weeks later my period didn't make it's appearance.

WallaceWindsock · 17/07/2013 12:14

With both DC we had unprotected sex once and I fell pg. wasn't even mid cycle with DD. I am however very fertile and am now on Depo to try and completely destroy fertility as we don't want anymore.

InsanelyBrainDeprived · 17/07/2013 12:14

Pressed post by accident...

7 years for first, first cycle for second. We had unexplained infertility and a few unsuccessful Ivf cycles before falling naturally with both. Nice surprises!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 17/07/2013 12:15

First cycle for DS1

Second cycle for DS2 - I was still breastfeeding

I have PCOS, but I low-carbed for a month prior to TTC each time which improves your insulin response and can encourage ovulation.

Owllady · 17/07/2013 12:19

we with my first it was most probably years as we were rubbish with contraception but I still didn't fall pregnant. then with second it was the first cycle (wtf!) and then my third was completely unplanned and contraception failure (he is lovely though)
