Seriously. Whoever came up with that little gem that eating ginger biscuits or any form of ginger will help morning sickness was a liar.

I have tried on many occasions to eat one of the sodding biscuits when I am feeling queasy and every single time it makes me vomit or feel worse. Usually both.

So i'm saying it loud guys. I call bullshit on ginger

So far (8wks) only having severe and constant nausea (the type where you just want to vomit in case it makes you feel better) but it's being helped by sucking on boiled sweet and mini milks. Will probably have gestational diabetes by the time I've over the nausea though...

Tonic water worked for me! (If you can stomach it)

flat coke
digestives/custard creams/crackers
really ice cold water
also sniffing oranges, pierce the skin with a nail & take a sniff.

The only time i didn't feel sick was when I was eating biscuits or sleeping.

the now XH used to say "well, you were the one who wanted a baby". Honestly I wish I'd have punched him for that one.

I had HG - throwing up 20+ times a day and 24/7 nausea. Only stopped vomiting at 29 weeks, was totally miserable.

My GP put me on Promethazine very quickly (the quicker you start treatment the more effective it is apparently). I started on 25mg, but they made me very sleepy, so I switched to 10mg which cut the drowsiness but not the effects.

They didn't make me feel less sick, but they did stop me physically being sick.

The only thing I wanted to eat was Granny Smiths apples - I had a complete breakdown in Tesco's once when they'd run out. Poor guy couldn't understand why I was sobbing my heart out when he said they only had Braeburns or Golden Delicious! I ate nothing but them for about 7 weeks.

Otherwise, I just had to avoid the kitchen and the fridge. I could only eat if someone put food in front of me that I hadn't seen or smelt cooking. It was totally miserable - poor DH was very good about doing all the food shopping at cooking for months.

My deep sympathy to anyone dealing with this right now.

Water with loads of ice and lemon taken in very small volumes and le,on ice lollies were about all I ate for 16 weeks, I lost over a stone but then the appetite came back with a vengeance!

Do not want to disappoint, but I was vomiting through the first six months with my second one ... every morning. The best for me though was a plain tea biscuit on my way to work. Or plain toast. Ginger - I hated it too!

Oh god this thread is bringing back to me the horror of my pregnancy with DS. And putting me off trying for DC2.

I found eating whatever I fancied to be the only way to survive. Some days that was nothing, other days it was just cookies Hmm

I also found I couldn't face eating until 10am.

I was sick many times daily until 6 months. Then every other day, then every week until I gave birth.

Last time I was sick was 10 minutes before DS was born. I had to yell to get their attention though as they were so busy telling me to push when all I wanted to do was be sick, but was conscious enough not to want to be sick all over myself.

We're planning on starting TTC next month and I really really don't want to be that ill again Sad

good luck to everyone still suffering Thanks

I found ginger made me feel ill. The only thing that helped was not letting my stomach get empty: I had to eat a few bites of something bland and high-carb every 2 hrs and that helped a lot. I had a handbag permanently full of rice cakes. I hate rice cakes.

Oh and a bowl of cereal last thing at night helped me feel a bit better in the morning.

Think it's cos empty stomach = lots of stomach acid. But everyone's different and there's no cure, just things that help a bit.

On the bright side, you're obviously producing lots of strong pregnancy hormones, so can look forward to lovely strong baby!

While rambling, random tip: if you breastfeed don't believe anyone who tells you it's ok to eat spices/curry if you had them in pregnancy. I had lots of curries while pregnant but when I had the exact same ones with my newborn he had stomach ache for days :( took me a couple of goes to realise and my Dr said she was same.

I am 6 weeks pregnant and the nausea has arrived with a bang.

Have not been able to eat or drink anything since yesterday afternoon, after throwing up my Subway sandwich.

Apple is the only thing I want to eat right now, so will now go to the Tesco for some.

Re: fruit - it's one of the few things I feel like eating (although not strawberries, which is sad because our strawberry patch is rampant at the moment Sad ). Although I can personally attest that bananas do not come back up without a hell of a lot of painful effort.

Glad you are feeling better, AbiElizabeth - it must be a huge relief.

Yes anything ginger = vom

I found eating tiny bits of dry cracker every half hour or so helped, also half a banana in bed before I got up. Couldn't face either of these for months after DS born.

Frozen grapes though, yum now and then Smile

How is everyone managing to take the pregnancy vitamins?

I throw up everytime I take the folic acid pill. I know I am depriving the fetus of a very important vitamin but I just don't know how to keep it down.

Surivved on ginger biscuits for a week or two but I think I now associate ginger so strongly with morning sickness that the smell of them sets me off!

AbiElizabeth I definitely agree with the folks who say eat before you get out of bed. I've been nibbling on a cracker each morning - seems to help. Hope it passes soon....
