Seriously. Whoever came up with that little gem that eating ginger biscuits or any form of ginger will help morning sickness was a liar.

I have tried on many occasions to eat one of the sodding biscuits when I am feeling queasy and every single time it makes me vomit or feel worse. Usually both.

So i'm saying it loud guys. I call bullshit on ginger

I don't understand how people can eat ginger. I think they just try and fob it off on us pregnant ladies because the rest of the world has realised it's not edible. The ginger companies just decided to target poor pregnant ladies who will try anything to feel better Grin

I don't think there is one generic cure for morning sickness. I've been pregnant 4 times, each time I've been ill and each time different things have worked or not worked!

You've just got to try whatever you can and hope something will make a difference.

Eating what you fancy/crave generally is the best bet but I sympathise. I have had HG 3 times. I would be flaked out in hospital on a drip unable to move, suck ice or sip water without retching. The dehydration made me blood pressure go nuts. Still people would suggest bloody ginger biscuits. One MW suggested plain rice and was shocked that I went Hmm. She clearly had no idea how incredibly painful vomiting up rice can be.

I ate love hearts to get rid of the nasty taste in my mouth as even water tasted metallic. It didnt stop me vomiting but would clear the taste for a little while. That was from a suggestion on here, so I suppose I will concede some suggestions are good.

Oh I feel your pain OP. I had HG in both pregnancies. I felt ready to throttle someone the next time I was told to eat a ginger biscuit.

Or dry toast

Or almonds

Or bloody anything to be honest.

DP had the best suggestion - you should go out for walks, so you get used to it then you won't be sick so much Hmm

First pregnancy I just struggled on.
Second pregnancy I pushed and got meds. Of course they gave me sodding metoclopramide (useless) after I'd been in hospital I went back to the GP and demanded cyclizine. That really worked for me. Sure I still felt queasy and occasionally vomited, but it made life bearable. Push for the meds if you're that sick!

Once I was on the cyclizine I found that sucking on polos helped keep the remaining nausea at bay.

That is exactly what my DP has said to me today. I would have punched him if I had the energy. They just don't get it do they?

Not sure if this has been mentioned as haven't read whole thread but get travel sickness bands. I was sick constantly, it didn't matter what i ate or drank, i would be sick afterwards. Until i got travel sickness bands! It literally stopped overnight. God send!

Ha! My mother is adamant that ginger biscuits work. She brought me a packet in my lat pregnancy and I threw them at her lol. I should show her this thread!!
Basically, nothing 'works'. If you're gonna hurl then it's coming up no matter what small morsel stops the grumbling for 30 seconds!!

Best thing is a chip butty before you very out of bed. Then another one for lunch, then eat a full warburtons loaf before your dinner (chips), cry about the bread, repeat.

Mine has just tailed off I hope, still fake it occasionally to excuse chip butties. Then cry. Repeat.

Totally agree with cupcake, but I'll put my suggestion on here in case it helps someone: wraps with Philadelphia inside!

Hula hoops alternated with cold grapes. All I ate in the first half of both my pregnancies.

The only thing that I could face before lifting my spinning head off the pillow was an oatcake or two. Had to be plain, preferably Nairns brand. DH used to tiptoe into the bedroom, put 2 on my bedside cabinet with a small glass of water, then tiptoe out again and run for his life to work and stay there until I was asleep at night

The mere thought of ginger anything was enough to make me murderous nauseous. I still don't know how I managed to go to work and do a 9 hour shift in a physical job on 2 oatcakes. But I did.

Oh and now oatcakes are one of Ds favourite things. He also prefers Nairns fine milled as his brand of choice! (We are Scottish, have tried many many types) but he likes his with peanut butter thickly on top. Now that would have made me hurl, urrgh.

bequicksie I had a massive chip butty when in labour and had been sent home from the hospital around midnight as everything had slowed down again. The chip shop guy was a bit like this Confused [shocked] at the massively pregnant lady doing deep breaths while waiting at the counter.

That might get me through labour, the promise of chip butties at the end. My baby is going to be pale and greasy.

Didn't work for me either and I tried all the ginger things in the world, in the end I figured that as soon as I woke up I just had to run and make a cup of tea which would keep the sick down long enough to make a slice of toast, even then it wouldn't always work!

I agree. Nothing made me feel better. Ginger is particularly nauseating!

Honestly the biscuit thing didn't work for me either, so I started drinking black tea with a slight bit of ginger powder in which is really soothing I find :) I did cut out sugar in my drinks as well as I found it triggered the heartburn xx

My Mum had HE spent her first trimester in hospital (didn't tell me until me own MS started in earnest in week 7ish - thanks Mum!). All she could stomach was dry toast and tea right up until the birth of my sister.

I had bad MS until week 16, but nowhere near HE but could not stomach either toast nor tea. The only thing that helped was carbonated spring water with a squeeze of lemon/lime. I also sniffed freshly cut ginger and it did help, but I really couldn't stomach the idea of eating a biscuit. I also eat grapes and oranges like they were going out of fashion.

My MiL advise me to try Heinz tomato soup - but that made me hurl... and gave me horrendous acid indigestion.

I'm now 31/32 weeks and still can't stomach tea :(

We're all different - Just listen to your body and go with whatever it tells you to do. That's the best advice my Mum gave me as she went through 'ginger-biscuit' Hell as well. I think it was her to advise me to smell the ginger instead of trying to eat it...

I am suffering with HG and the fresh, dry, frozen, whatever form ginger / ginger biscuits theory is BULLSHIT in my opinion.. MIL won't give up with it...... I feel like shouting in her face (mainly due to hormonal rage) "why don't you fuck off with your ginger bloody theories".... But I don't because she's a lovely lady and I am just a hormonal, starving, sick and miserable bitch at the moment....... Grin
