Seriously. Whoever came up with that little gem that eating ginger biscuits or any form of ginger will help morning sickness was a liar.

I have tried on many occasions to eat one of the sodding biscuits when I am feeling queasy and every single time it makes me vomit or feel worse. Usually both.

So i'm saying it loud guys. I call bullshit on ginger

I am just posting because yesterday I sent my dd to the shop for biscuits. She asked what to get and I told her to choose. She came back with a packet of ginger nuts lol. She doesn't even know I'm PG but I thought it was funny and thought of you on this thread. Luckily I am past the nausea stage and personally there wasn't much at all I could stomach eating when I did have it...not even drinks! Hope you feel better soon :-)

Oh forgot... I am living off a few boiled cold baby potatoes and sips of water. I can manage ice lollies too.

This thread really made me laugh. I get so furious with the people who constantly suggest ginger biscuits. I tried ginger biscuits, ginger tea, fresh ginger, ginger cordial etc etc throughout my first 14 weeks and now the only result is, many weeks after my sickness has disappeared, that even the thought of ginger now makes me gag! It doesn't work!! I have a friend who is a doctor and I have given up telling her anything about my pregnancy as I think it may break our friendship. She watched me run to the toilet after drinking ginger tea in more than one occasion but will still argue with me that ginger works. No it does not!!!!!

sour sweets worked for me. you know, those jelly ones with sour sugar stuff on. i think they took the nausea 'taste' out of my mouth...

MS nearly made me have my first proper row with my MIL... she is a bit of a pain at the best of times, but when she said that the fact that it was a million times worse on work days than days off showed it was entirely psycological! Eh?! Definitely deserved at least a slap for that one.
Obviously the fact that work days mean alarm at 5.15, 12 hour shift in hospital on my feet running around like a headless chicken while unable to eat or drink a thing therefore severely dehydrated, getting home at 8.30 etc, and repeat vs day off... lie in followed by day on the sofa has nothing to do with it!
Best advice is def just to eat whatever you fancy a bit of, as anything else is guaranteed to make me vom, at least if I fancy something to start with rather than the though making me gag means it has a chance of staying down!

Jelly Babies were the only think to keep the nausea at bay with DS2. I would sit and watch Peppa Pig with DS1 while munching on them.

I now cannot eat a Jelly Baby or listen to Peppa arsing Pig without feeling a little bit queasy.

Yes to sour sweets, they were the only thing that got that disgusting metallic taste out of my mouth!

You have my total sympathy....progesterone poisoning I used to call it. I was morning sick everyone one of my 8 pregnancies ( only two kids. Lots of miscarriages :( ). Tried it all and the only thing that worked was getting to about 17 weeks. What helped: very very very cold water sipped in small quantities often, sniffing lemons and hypnotherapy cd helped a little bit. Good luck

Lemon jelly babies, salt & vinegar crisps & oatcakes eaten at regular intervals helped me. Didn't get rid of it, but made it so I could function, just.
Also kept lemon essential oil in the car to sniff when driving made me even queasier (community-based job!)

It has thankfully eased off today. Just have the headache from hell instead of feeling sick/vomiting. Swings and roundabouts I guess haha :D

I've been there.

IF A BISCUIT MAS THE MIRACLE CURE TO GETTING OFF THE SOFA WITHOUT VOMITING FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THREE WEEKS... DO YOU NOT THINK I'D BE STUFFING MY FACE WITH BISCUITS RATHER THAN SHIVVERING AND VOMITING?

Ahem.

I did forget to add that even pre-pregnancy, ginger is on the very short list of things I Do Not Eat because it's disgusting. I was sucked in though, and tried ginger biscuits and ginger beer (the non alcoholic type naturally) even though I hate ginger in the hope it would work. It didnt.

Lots of bedrest, and medication are the only things that help.

Bless you abi. It really is just about the hardest thing. I did 3 months of hospital bedrest and really it was the morning sickness that just about killed me.

Agreed on the ginger, it was bullshit for me. So were preggy pops.

Salt and vinegar walkers, lemonade and mash with lots of salt in taken in very small spoonfuls and sea bands helped. Sleep was the best cure though.

I feel your pain. On a good day (I counted) I was sick nine times in ONE EVENING and I was actually praying to God because I had literally nothing left to throw up apart from my stomach lining.

Even a sip of water left me heaving. I hate Morrissey for his stupid quote to an Aussie paper about Kate Middleton "She is in hospital for no reason I can see" when she hospitalised for acute morning sickness.

Yep a gay man giving an opinion on morning sickness! I was sick morning, noon and night and kept a bowl beside me at all times.

Ginger? Yeah that works until you chuck it up three minutes later.

Black tea, boiled eggs and boiled rice seemed to stay down for about twenty minutes though.

Sorry OP - it is a horrible time. Sad

Fucking ginger biscuits. Ginger tea. Anything ginger made me boak.

The only thing that stopped me vomming were the drugs and the only things I could keep down were marmite toast and Haribo sour spaghetti. I don't know why and I don't care why but I lived off those for 13 weeks.

abiNo idea what food you can try as I only threw up a couple of times {runs away from angry pregnant mob} so I just knew what foods to avoid, but I found sucking ice cubes helped stop the constant nauseous feeling (I found out I was pg in the summer) and if I had thrown up only thing to help me feel better was flat coke, cold. The newsagent down the road must of thought my DH was a coke addict I was always sending him out to get more Wink and the sugar in it gives you a bit more energy...

Ginger didn't really help but I like crystallised ginger (I know you probably all think that's weird 'who eats it voluntarily?!') so ate it even though it didn't help!

Big hugs and sympathy to those suffering, my dd is now 7 weeks so thankfully over horrible pg symptoms, but she is worth every minute of suffering!!!!

Ginger burns on its way back up. It's adding insult to injury in my opinion. So far today I have kept down some fizzy orange and a packet of wotsits. And a cube of mature cheddar. Obviously orange foods are the way to go. That's about as helpful as any advice I've ever been given!

Abi, no orange juice!

Believe me, I may be more than a decade since my last but I did have five and threw up every time. The first time for 9 months. Most dont she adds hastily.

I definitely recommend baked potatoes. Not toast (horrid to vomit), not pasta (hydrated already). Baked potatoes seem to absorb any of the hormones or whatever it is. Also, dont get hungry- as you know, it makes it worse. Little and often eg 5-6 times a day.

Oddly those Greggs yucky white brioche buns helps too, but buy the end of that pregancy I had vomited too much and also got fat. Dont go there.

Potatoes, baked, does it...

Eugh I know how you feel and ginger biscuits don't do anything!

WArm sweet tea and coke helped me. But I couldn't drink in big gulps, only tiny little sips every few minutes. Toast and honey was ok. I didn't eat anything substantial for about 2 weeks. Then the symptoms gradually died away at around 10 weeks. I could eat naan happily. Dh would bring me some from our local kebab shop and I'd nibble on them throughout the day.
