if one more person tells me to eat a ginger biscuit I will punch them in the face

Seriously. Whoever came up with that little gem that eating ginger biscuits or any form of ginger will help morning sickness was a liar.

I have tried on many occasions to eat one of the sodding biscuits when I am feeling queasy and every single time it makes me vomit or feel worse. Usually both.

So i'm saying it loud guys. I call bullshit on ginger

I second ice lollies and can recommend chewing on slices of lime to help get rid of vile sour taste in your mouth if that's something you're suffering from too. I'm 18 weeks pregnant and the nausea is only just starting to subside - heartily sick of this sickness!

Ginger biscuits gave me heartburn. Fresh ginger worked though and so did fresh garlic in any form. I realise that may not sound very appealing but for me it works on every kind of nausea and was the thing I relied upon for 5 months of my pregnancy.

I sympathise OP. Shortly after being hospitalised for hyperemesis I attempted to attend antenatal classes. Despite knowing I had been on a drip and prescribed meds for the awful sickness the health visitor helpfully suggested ginger biscuits Hmm

Are you keeping liquids down? Able to stay hydrated?

I hear you OP.

I could only stomach some really sharp lemony sweets called "Preggy pops" Shock. I was sick as a dog until 16 weeks with ds1 and totally understand your pain.

I had HG and was so ill I needed hospitalisation yet I was still being told to eat a ginger biscuit on my way to work!!!! On my way to work!?!?!? Are you kidding me? I couldn't even move from one side of the bed to the other. Most drs and midwives had no clue about HG either.

I haven't been so bad the last few days and stupidly thought I was getting over the sickness. Today it is back with a vengeance though. Not even keeping water down today. Currently flopped on the sofa sniffing a lemon because the smell seems to calm the nausea. 11 weeks today so got a long way to go Sad

The only thing that was of any use to me were Haribo Tangtastics. Other sweets will do but they must be fizzy and sour. (Please don't hit me if it doesn't work for you).

OP I'll hold them down. Have gone off all things gingery. Eeew!

I started a thread with I think the exact same title about 2 years ago Grin I thought this was it being bumped!

On the plus side I have a gorgeous 18mo and we baked ginger biscuits together this week. Would you like one?

Go to doc and get some cyclizine if it's really bad - sorted me out, still felt awful but stopped the actual vomiting.

BentleyBelly · 31/05/2013 13:55

Try oranges...bit fat juicy oranges, they helped me. Just the thought of ginger makes me feel worse. I feel the same way about people commenting on my bump now, if one more person tells me how big I am getting I may not be held responsible for my actions!

Can't believe no one has suggested acupuncture. That was the only thing which stopped me vomiting. Honestly, it was like an off switch. Please go and see someone TODAY, it's pretty miraculous stuff.

Do you want to know what works? Drugs. Really expensive drugs that no-one wants to give you. Oh, and giving birth is pretty helpful too (that's what I'm holding out for as I'm still on the aforementioned expensive drugs at 34 weeks Hmm).

Other than that I can imagine that punching the next person who so much as thinks of recommending you ginger biscuits would be very therapeutic. You could try throwing up the ginger biscuit on to them to get your point across but vomiting ginger biscuits burns your throat.

Ah the old ginger biscuit gemHmm.

Actually I'm surprised there is still anyone left brave enough to suggest that one. I thought I'd put several hundred thousand straight about ginger sodding biscuits when I was throwing up for England 11 years ago. Throw up on their shoes. That ought to get the message over.

(sorry you're feeling rough, I have nothing but sympathy it's hellish)

If you continue to struggle keeping down water go to the doctor. Don't be afraid of wasting their time as it's 'just morning sickness' like I did the first time.

I became very unwell trying to struggle on and ended up in hospital on a drip for several days.

Btw I even tried acupunture in desparation. If you knew me you'd know what a departure from reality it is for me to venture down the alternative route.

Didn't work. As I recall I threw up in their ladies room on the way out. I like to think of that as a bit of 'customer feedback'.

haha! chewing that's hilarious. I'm certainly not going to let someone stick needles in me. I am going to throw up on my dad if he tells me to eat the sodding biscuits one more time. He rang me to tell he has brought me a different brand to see if that helps. Yes dad, i'm pretty sure it was the brand of biscuits that was the problem. He is only trying to help but I wish he wouldn't!

burberry you deserved it. Grin

roomforalitteone Oh if only they would just give us the drugs. Selfish bastards bar stewards.

MY sister bought me six bags of crystallised (sp?) ginger when I was about seven weeks. Had one piece, and it was so vile that I chucked it up almost immediately and just couldn't touch any more.
