Just did two pg tests and positive (although faint). Took 10 months ttc last time and as DD is almost one I've only had periods for a few months so this is a hugely pleasant surprise!

Anyone-else out there?

Hi Firstfroggy you are very welcome here. Sad to hear your boyfriend isn't being as mature as he should be. Do you have anyone in real life who can support you emotionally? Whereabouts in the world are you?

I am in Northern Ireland, but think most other people on this thread live in England... could be wrong though, just guessing!

I didn't see your other other thread, but you can rant, and chat to us anytime you want, we're a friendly bunch :)

firstfroggy · 29/12/2011 18:12

thanks needlescuties, don't worry, i have friends who i can chat to about boyfriend situation. would just be nice to talk babies here and pregnancy excitement/fears. i would like to feel happy and excited and to be able to connect with my pregnancy. does anyone else feel that it just doesn't feel real?? this is my first pregnancy so all totally new to me!!

PoppySeed34 · 29/12/2011 18:50

hi firstfroggy - congrats on your news, but really sorry to read about your boyfriend :( I'm glad you've got people to talk to it about, but hope the situation manages to resolve.

it's my first time too, and it doesn't feel that real at all, if you read above I've done 6 tests to check so far.. :) i don't want to think about it too much, but then google the most stupid things Confused

Am leaning more towards booking a private scan next, just so I can make sure everything is going ok and in the right direction. I think I might drive myself made before the 12 week scan. This is all so unlike me, which bothers me a lot, I blame the hormones!!

Gnomi · 29/12/2011 19:35

Thanks poppyseed Which pregnancy book is it? I think I should get one! I did get a baby book in the Amazon Kindle sale, but it's about the first year, not pregnancy. How strange that you don't get any symptoms.

Hi Firstfroggy, welcome! This is a great place to chat, especially when you can't in real life. The 6 weeks will go quicker than you expect.

Counting down the hours til the scan tomorrow!

PoppySeed34 · 29/12/2011 19:44

It's this one www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1405348798 a friend who's got a 1 month old recommended it to me.

Good luck with your scan Gnomi x

Dorita75 · 29/12/2011 20:16

Thanks for lovely welcome everyone. Angel, I'll be 5 weeks on new year's day, my due date is 4th September. I keep wanting to buy stuff (preg book, teddy bear) and maybe tell my Mum, Dad and Sis on my Dad's 65th birthday at end of Jan but I'll only be 8 weeks and my boyfriend's wanting to be cautious until scan says all okay...can see what he means, just means being ingenious with why I'm not drinking etc...!!
Great being able to share thoughts and see what others are going through on here x

NathanDetroit · 29/12/2011 20:30

hi dorita and firstfroggy - congratulations! Exciting times!

This is the pregnancy book I have and I think it's really good. Explains how you get pregnant etc. My partner was reading it last night going "it's amazing. AMAZING!" heeh www.amazon.co.uk/Expecting-Anna-McGrail/dp/184408034X/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1325190481&sr=1-1

Well, the tiredness has kicked me in the butt today. Back at work and left early to work from home as my back was hurting and I was feeling grumpy. Lay down for an hour's nap about 4.30 and only just got up! Oops. Still have to finish off the work too. Boo.

hurrah for your scan blackcatsdancing (my own black cats are letting me know they want their evening meal..). I sort of want an early scan but now also got the fear that there is nothing there or something's wrong. Always something to worry about! Guess I should bite the bullet though as we have some Xmas money to put to it and it would be nice. Good to know that you've showed the pics to the mw too.

mrsmamma · 29/12/2011 20:55

My early scan was £50 and brilliant! I was in there 20 mins being shown everything.

DoritA I told my 1 yr old niece they are very good at keeping secrets!

I went mw yesterday was a bit rubbish really she just filled my form in n talked a lot about prawns! Went for bloods todAy too! Told another friend of mine too which was nice dh is telling everyone so I'm gonna enjoy it! I've decided I've got to let myself start to enjoy this as stressing is no good for me or the baby! Smile

PoppySeed34 · 29/12/2011 21:10

mrsmamma, what did they say about prawns?!? Confused

yay for the scan - what could you see? :)

Angel786 · 29/12/2011 22:35

Welcome froggy feel free to share pregnancy chat, rants, anything with us Grin hope the bf isn't getting you down too much at such an exciting time!

dorita it's so hard to keep a secret isn't it?! Last tine we waited twelve weeks but this time told our folks at just five weeks - mainly to save trying to hide the no drinking etc over Xmas!

Am intrigued re the prawns too?! I thought they were ok to eat if cooked Blush.

Am craaaaaaaaving some Camembert with French stick.... And a nice cold glass of sancerre. Ah well.

geekette · 30/12/2011 00:12

hi froggy! I have found this is a great place to get baby fever :)
It is my first time too and didn't feel much pregnant in the beginning. Actually I still don't but i ache all over (discussed in other thread)

I get quite confused what to post on which thread. what is to be posted in antenatal and what is for the pregnancy thread?

Envy of all who have had early scans. Glad all have had clear scans with strong heartbeats! Woohoo!

practicallyimperfect · 30/12/2011 08:27

My sister is 3rd year midwifery student. The rules about shellfish and cheese is simply to avoid food poisoning. You can get pastuerised brie in Tesco which is fine to eat. Prawns will be fine cooked. Same with funny eggs. I have already had raw egg in a mousse, but really as long as they are lion marked and in date. I have never had food poisoning from eggs or cheese.

Liver is the only thing you shouldn't have, so pate. This is because of vitamin a.

NeedlesCuties · 30/12/2011 08:33

geekette I think the ante-natal thread is the 'official' one (or at least it was when I was pregnant in 2009 with DS!).

I think the pregnancy one is rumbling on as we all keep adding to it, and I think there is more traffic through the Pregnancy section than through the Ante-natal section so more people see it and jump on.

blackcatsdancing · 30/12/2011 09:45

welcome froggy. fwiw i know of several men who became fathers reluctantly, they all changed their minds at some point, either after seeing scans and starting to bond with baby or once the baby was born. I know not all men do but there is a good chance he will come around once the shock has been processed and once he has started to sort of his own feelings a bit better. In the meantime share on here about baby stuff! My partner and I rowed the other day a few hours after the scan, and we never row, then the day after we had another wobble which made things worse. I think there is so so much stress involved and without going into personal details a lot of baggage from the past. I know we will be ok though and i'm back at work next week so will be busy again- a good thing in the early weeks I think.

Angel786 · 30/12/2011 09:48

Hey geekette I posted this thread before the ante natal official one as I'd just found put was pg and wanted to chat with others in a similar situation. You can post whatever you want here re pg / ante natal care, rants, whatever! I posted in pregnancy as that's where I went to chat but you can also post due dates etc here or the 'official' one. The more the merrier Grin

I had 2 pics with me scan n both very clear. It was a small privately run firm in Hinckley which is near where I live.

She said don't eat prawns unless u have cooked/ prepared them urself! I'm going to a very fancy restaurant tonight and I'm going to have scollops but have read they are ok.

I'm 10 weeks today can't wait to get to the 12 week stage although am reassured to know that my little strawberry has all their organs now so not so prone to external toxins!

crystaltea36 · 30/12/2011 17:35

Hi froggy I'm the same as you, 6 weeks, had my first midwife appointment today, feel like it was too soon though as is now ages until the 12 week scan and keep worrying something might go wrong! I so far haven't been getting too excited as keep worrying, wish I could just relax and get excited! Ladies who have had early scans, when can you have these? What's the earliest they can see anything?

Redbird12 · 30/12/2011 17:59

Hi ladies, just wanted to update you as had 1st midwife appointment today. Well, from my books I was prepared for various tests & measurements but none of that actually happened and I was thrown by her very 1st question! The first thing she asked was where I wanted to have the baby and gave me a choice of 3 hospitals (Northampton, Coventry or Banbury) or at home. It would have been good to have been able to discuss this with DH but she said she needed to know that before she could start doing any of the notes as different hospitals have different forms. So I just picked one I had heard someone else say was nice & in the right direction for family to visit, don't know if this is what I should have based the decision on or not! To be honest, this may not be an issue if you live in a reasonable sized town with one hopsital but we are in a small town and the 3 hospitals offered are in 3 different counties & around 16, 20 and 24 miles away.

After that, it was just a lot of questions about medical issues, which foods to avoid, symptons etc and she gave me a lot of booklets (which I haven't had the time to go through yet as been at work since) about scan timescales, how often I will see the MW, money issues, breastfeeding etc. The urine sample, blood test etc will all be at the next appointment in 2 weeks time. The MW will now send the form off to the hopsital to request a scan date but said that will be 4-6 weeks away (am 8+4 currently).

So have decided to book a private scan which I've just arranged for next Sat as I don't think I can wait that long otherwise! Just want some reassurance there is actually a baby in there and have a better idea on dates. Good to hear your scans went well mrsmamma and blackcats dancing. Will let you know after mine how I get on.

mrsmamma · 30/12/2011 18:00

Hi crystal I was told best time was 8 weeks as u can see a heart beat clearly by then ! For me worrying it was worth every penny! I had mine at 9 weeks n they cud tell me that baby had separated from yolk sac which meant risk of miscarriage is reduced up to 75%. I know it doesn't mean I'm out the woods but it was fantastic to hear as I have had a few family members miscarry early !

mrsmamma · 30/12/2011 18:02

Hey redbird one of my options was coventry so we must live fairly close x

quickchat · 30/12/2011 18:11

Hi, Im due beginning of August with surprise (very big surprise) 3rd.
I have a 4.5 yr old Boy and a 2 yr old girl. Both of them were born 3 weeks early. Had 2 high risk PG so im sure the midwife team will be glad to see me back Grin.

Watery mouth here too Mrdarceych but as for Horny, Ha! Ive only uttered two words to DH since finding out - SNIP SNIP!

geekette · 30/12/2011 18:11

I got the date for my 12th week scan today. It seems so far away! I want to see the little one now :)

mrsmamma · 30/12/2011 18:29

Ooo when is it I can't wait for mine?

Has anyone had the downs syndrome screening

NathanDetroit · 30/12/2011 18:35

Big respect to all of you being sick and feeling awful. I haven't vomited (yet) but heck I feel awful. I hate being sick and can't imagine puking several times a day. :(

So, if you have bleeding, and pain, what should you do? I'm half thinking that there isn't anything anyone can do, but then knowing what's up either way would be good too. I think there is an EPU here but not sure. Can you just turn up?
