Just did two pg tests and positive (although faint). Took 10 months ttc last time and as DD is almost one I've only had periods for a few months so this is a hugely pleasant surprise!

Anyone-else out there?

Good luck dolly! How many weeks are you? I wanted to get a scan at 8 weeks but didn't get around to booking and now only 3 weeks till hospital one so will wait.... And wait.... Hope all goes great for you today!

The cramps are ligaments stretching I think, I had them first time around , someti es q sharp stabbing pains.

The nipples - all v odd. Mine got v v dark and little tiny bumps fell off (!) first time around, all pain free and dd bf fine. Also all back to normal now, but not for long...

Am sooo tired all the time. Need to nap during the day, gonna struggle when bavk to work next week!

Thinking of braving the sales, but lack of energy.... Severely! May be tempting fate but gave some gift vouchers and thought I'd buy baby some stuff, can always return it if needs be Confused

good luck with scans Mrsmamma and Dollie :) Welcome cupcake. cograts!

Hope you all had a lovely christmas?

cramps and period pains are normal, i've had them every week and like Angel says they're stretching (so the ladies at the EPU told me :))

I'm still getting off lightly with the symptoms, getting a bit more nausea but not being sick (thankfully, no sore boobs either but I do have those mini lump things.

It's the consitpation and bloating that is really bad for me :( i think it's made worse because I'm not exercising very much atm, and my diet has completed changed. I use to live off salad, but now it's just potatoes, chips, crisps, bread, pasta... I've also gone off meat a bit, except for sausages and ham (I hardly ever eat sausages) - it's just all too weird..!! Anyone else??

I had to do another test this morning, just to check - no idea why. That's 6 so far, or one a week since the first one. Roll on three-ish weeks and the scan Xmas Grin

PoppySeed34 · 28/12/2011 12:15

I also made the mistake of googling episiotomy last night - :( am SO scared of that one, does anyone know if the massaging really works?

Angel786 · 28/12/2011 12:35

Lol poppy I also crave stodgy food! I tried the massaging with almond oil but had an episiotomy and third degree tear Sad I guess it's different for everyone but no harm in trying! Am getting a csec this time.

I just booked a scan for tomorrow but the woman at ultra baby was soooo rude I've cancelled it! Will have to wait til Jan now...!

OP posts:
NeedlesCuties · 28/12/2011 13:43

Poppy do not google things like that at this early stage! With DS I didn't Google anything but had DH (who's a doctor) tell me all sort of gross things.

I had a 2nd degree tear which didn't heal right, got 'granulation scar tissue' which was referred to surgery for 7 months after DS was born. Google that if you like (please don't!)

In the end the tissue healed without surgery but I'm scared of it happening again, will need a loooong chat with midwife when I see her next month to put my head at ease.

Angel are you 100% set on getting a csec this time, or have they told you that is what they recommend for you?

PoppySeed34 · 28/12/2011 13:47

I didn't mean too I just kind of stumbled upon it by accident and then googled that word and then freaked a bit :(

I think I might refrain from googling things when bored again..

Sorry to hear about the rude woman Angel, that's a shame about the scan.

NeedlesCuties · 28/12/2011 14:02

Poppy, I suppose it's good to be forewarned, but at this very early stage it might freak you out more than you need.

With DS I tore (as I said in my previous post) and the hospital I had him in had a policy of letting women have a 'controlled tear' rather than giving them an episiotomy. Don't ask me what the heck a controlled tear is, all I know is I tore and it fecking hurt! Once I had DS in my arms though it was all worth it :)

Angel786 · 28/12/2011 14:17

That's ok poppy bad customer service gets me soooo upset but I may have cut off my nose as they say! Oh well, only three weeks till the nhs one.

needles. The third degree tear was pretty awful, they made the cut as dd was stuck on the way out as she had shoulder dystocia ( luckily all healed and no after effects! But took about six months before normal. Was on laxatives for four months and if I stood up too long my insides felt lime they were falling out) After all the follow up checks the consultants recommended it for me to avoid similar / worse next time as they already had to cut through the back passage muscle (sorry if tmi!) first time around. I know a c sec also has risks and is no walk in the park but psychologically I feel much better about it. Explain your concerns to the midwife and hopefully they'll help.

But, all said and done, it wasn't THAT bad as I'd do it all again for this baby! Don't want to scare people, the body and mind is an amazing thing and recovers so well!

I have the ipregancy app and baby centre both are good! At mw at 3.30 I'll let u know how I get in Smile

I'm also very tired and lethargic n feel dizzy n weak a lot going to ask the mw about it today x

NeedlesCuties · 28/12/2011 15:24

Angel - thanks for explaining, I think in your situation I'd be going for a section too. As it is I'm going to go for a vaginal birth again and pray pray pray that I don't tear again.

Sometimes even now (DS is 22 months old) if I sit awkwardly my scar tissue will be sore or ache. Haven't been able to wear a thong at all since he was born (sorry if tmi, but it's true!).

practicallyimperfect · 28/12/2011 16:14

I had an episiotomy with ds, he was a forceps birth. It healed fine, I can feel the scar tissue but only if I am looking iyswim.

I feel rough today. Think I am ill as well as pregnancy symptoms. Ds is bouncing around and I'm trying to entertain him. I napped with him earlier and we slept for over two hours! Gonna regret that later when he won't go to bed!

NathanDetroit · 28/12/2011 18:14

thanks mrsmamma will check those out. The what to expect one keeps going on about "poor dad" not being able to touch "your woman's breasts" and I'm like...No thank you very much! Guess I'm lucky to have such a respectful DH but honestly, there are more important things going on right now!!

Have felt really shite the last couple of days but when I'm doing something else I don't notice. So tomorrow at work I fully expect to feel rubbish but be unable to curl up with a book. Bah.

Gnomi · 28/12/2011 18:56

Hello everyone, glad you all seem to have had good Christmases. We told our families which was brilliant, and now dh has given in to my request for a new kitchen! We've been round IKEA today looking at them, now I just have to decide!

We also have our scan this week on Friday. I'm a bit nervous that they're going to say, "Actually, there's no baby, you've clearly been making all this up." Hopefully it'll all be ok, medically I'm at 12 weeks tomorrow (got my dates wrong and ended up on this thread), so then we can tell people at New Year. I can also get away with not having to pretend I'm driving/not well/hungover to explain the not drinking!

I also have the cramping, and have had all the way through. I find it a bit reassuring, as I haven't had a lot of other symptoms. The MW said it was just the womb stretching. Nice.

I'm also pretty ignorant about tearing/cutting etc but I understand that they're pretty good now about fixing you back up if you need it. 30 years ago they would have just let you get on with it (according to my mum, who says she's never been the same since - definitely TMI).

faintpinkline · 28/12/2011 19:12

Hi all can I join? I'm not posting under normal name at the moment as we haven't told family and friends yet though I rather think some guesse3d over Christmas giving my constant refusal to drink and my general sleepiness.

My nipples hurt like hell and have for 3 weeks, and I've got all the symptoms of morning sickness except actually being sick. Feel a right fool rushing to the toilet and retching away to no affect.

Due date is August 11th I think. I've not booked in with midwives yet but have seen gp and been referred so hopefully do it in next couple of weeks.

Congratulations to you all

Dolliedaydream · 28/12/2011 19:16

Oh happy me, scan perfect, one baby with a fine beating heart. I've been smiling all day, may need to tone it down a bit or someone will guess. Any advice on how to hide this news from a group of healthcare professional including a midwife on a spa weekend...no drinking, steam or sauna is a bit obvious!
Angel I am 8 weeks bang on with my dates. Sorry you didn't get your scan sorted spend the cash on something nice instead.

Poppy I am with you on the ham, sausages, stodge and the after effects, I looked 6 months gone a few days ago. The bloating has really gone down now I've cut bread and had oat bran porridge with natural yogurt, flaxseed and berries for breakfast with loads of water. Has helped with the more anti social effects of bloating and constipation. I think hormones slow down the digestion so you get every bit of nutrition.

Angel786 · 28/12/2011 20:05

Welcome and congratulations faint pink

dollie that's great news! So pleased for yup! Did you get some pictures?

gnomi good luck Fri!

Hi, would like to join! Had a very, very faint line on Christmas Day which has got stronger each time I've done a test, been to Doc's today and it's confirmed - am pregnant with first baby after trying to concieve for 6 months!! Am soo happy..and scared, everything! I whispered to my 1 year old neice on christmas day that she might have a cousin this time next year, other than that it's just me, my boyfriend and my doctor that know...Am so happy I'm able to join a thread with this fabulous news!! (Just read this back and can't believe they're my words)

Angel786 · 28/12/2011 23:47

Fantastic news dorita welcome! Do you know how many weeks you are?

blackcatsdancing · 29/12/2011 10:03

Hi all, am on both threads so will post twice! Had my early private scan yesterday (£99), and worth every penny (I dug into savings to pay) . I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks previously (many years ago) so with modern technology having moved on decided to put my mind at rest.
Dates match exactly , 7 +2 yesterday. Saw and heard baby's heartbeat . Sonographer said it looked well attached, it came from my right ovary- and i got to see the shell it was released from. Plenty of progesterone- another good sign. Yolk sac visible. Best of all was just seeing it there , after having (probably) a blighted ovum all those years ago i was convinced there might be nothing. Tests are weird, now they are around they feel so reassuring yet also cause so much anguish. I have a child at Uni who was conceived after my miscarriage, no early scan technology in those days , and i don't remember being anywhere near so worried with that pregnancy as i am with this. Age has something to do with it. Another positive thing was she checked out my ovaries, said they looked fine and she said I had a good supply of eggs left. Nice to know as still a long way to go with this little bean.
Now off to see MW for pre-booking!
BTW sickness hitting me badly last few days :(
Hope everyone is well . I just wish i could relax a bit, hoping that after 12 weeks i can start to enjoy being pregnant a bit more, though now of course there is the 20 weeks anomaly scan also so i guess i won't fully relax until after that. (sigh).

Peasandyoghurt · 29/12/2011 11:30

blackcats congratulations on your scan. Where did you get it done? I had an early scan a couple of weeks ago, cost £120 and no where near as thorough as yours - it was literally 'there's the heartbeat and off you go'. Would love to go to a place where I can get more detail - on ovaries etc!

blackcatsdancing · 29/12/2011 14:20

peasandyoghurt i went with Babybond via Ultrasound direct. They had appointments in my home town yesterday and then not again until the 28th Jan, I except they move throughout the region to get the most work. They were great and i'd recommend. I couldn't make out much of the baby at such an early stage but I expected that. I showed my midwife the prints this morning and she used the info in her notes.

Angel786 · 29/12/2011 14:53

peas last time around I had a 3d/4d scan with baby premier and their service was fantastic. However myultrababy is awful and would not recommend them at all!

Gnomi · 29/12/2011 16:19

Fantastic news Dollie, I think you'll struggle to keep it a secret on your spa weekend though!

Welcome dorita and Blackcats.

Popped to the Drs. today to pick up a repeat prescription, and they gave me another prescription - one for a UTI. I didn't even know I had one! Does anyone know if it's safe to take Nitrofurantoin? The doctor didn't even ring me, so I've insisted on a phone consultation tomorrow.

Is it more common to get UTIs when you're pregnant? I already struggle with thrush, don't want even more complications!

PoppySeed34 · 29/12/2011 17:06

Gnomi, I've just been reading about this in my pregnancy book and, unfortunately, yes it is more common for pregnant women to get UTIs as the muscles relax around that area and let bacteria in more easily, and the book says don't get any symptoms like you usually do (haven't got to the reason why for that yet).

congrats dorita and fab news dollie :) i'm really tempted to get a private scan now, not sure I can wait until the 12 week one. It's feels SO long away....

firstfroggy · 29/12/2011 17:33

hi there, can i join in please? i'm 6weeks tomorrow, and anyone who read my previous thread might know that my boyfriend isn't very happy about this pregnancy (he changed his mind about wanting a baby), so i'd like to be able to get excited with someone!!

feeling a bit weird at the moment, due to aforementioned problem, and the fact that i'm constantly wondering 'is everything alright in there?' i've had very sore boobs (been sleeping in bra) but they seem to be less painful in the last 24 hours (they weren't waking me up last night!) apart from that no symptoms. obviously i'm riddled with anxieties before 12 wk scan - another six weeks seems a lifetime away! - but can't even discuss them with boyfriend as he's just not happy about pregnancy.... so it would be nice to talk to you guys if you'll have me?!
