Just did two pg tests and positive (although faint). Took 10 months ttc last time and as DD is almost one I've only had periods for a few months so this is a hugely pleasant surprise!

Anyone-else out there?

Hello all,

Please may I join this lovely thread too? I've just found out today that my first IVF attempt seems to have worked, and after 5 (!) tests this morning, I'm pregnant! It's been a long horrible journey over the past two years due to a lot of surgery, so this truly is a Christmas miracle.

Am super-excited and a bit nervous about it all, but according to my calculations, am due 17th Aug if it's one baby or 26th July if it's twins (we had two embryos put back in). I'm very tired by the middle of the afternoon, have tender boobs, odd twingy sensations in my tummy and am often hungry. I've just booked my early scan for 5th Jan and can't wait. But feel that my 12 week scan is a LOOONNGGG way off yet!

Anyhoo, good luck to you all and congratulations Xmas Smile!

mrsmamma · 14/12/2011 13:28

Congrats missmiggins! ThatS lovely news! Welcome to the group!

I'm hating pregnancy hormones at the mo! This woman at work just made a dig at something I'd done, usually I'd give as good back as she Is the most useless person I know but instead just wAnted to cry!! She has been a bit jealous of me as we started together but I seem to get the important prices of work so usually get digs from her but today it upset me! Hopefully I managed to hide it Sad

Got my step son coming for Xmas who is 11! My husband wants to tell him as we will be doing lots of family things so will be hard for no one to mention it but I dont think we should until 12 week scan! Thoughts please?

littleredmouse · 14/12/2011 13:31

MrsMigginslovespies congratulations! You must be so excited! I'm due 12-14th August and have same symptoms as yourself.

littleredmouse · 14/12/2011 13:32

mrsmamma personally i'd not say anything to your stepson yet and i'd ask others to do the same.

mrsmamma · 14/12/2011 13:43

Thanks I agree! My husband thinks my glass is always half empty n thinks it's impossible for his parents n mine not to mention anything! Men just don't get it! My hubby doesn't get that until 12 weeks we can't be sure of anything!

littleredmouse · 14/12/2011 14:06

something could go wrong and if it does it is putting your stepson through some upset unnecessarily. Things can still go wrong later but statistically the first 12 weeks are the most precarious. My book says to be wary of who you tell in the first trimester , so its not just us being worry pots.

glittershoes · 14/12/2011 14:14

Completely agree with the others mrsmamma. I have too much younger brothers (they are 11 and 13) and we will not be telling them until we get the all clear at the scan (fingers crossed, touching wood etc...). It is a lot for a child to deal with and understand if something goes wrong, better to save him the potential heartache.

Plus, I know 11 isn't a baby but nine months is a long time and he may become impatient!

Hi MrsMiggins! By my count I am due on 17th August as well! I am so impatient for the 12 week scan and am contemplating an early private one around the second week of January when I will be about 9 weeks. We are going away to Scotland on the 16th January so it would be nice to go with some peace of mind.

glittershoes · 14/12/2011 14:15

Meant 'two' obviously not 'too' although a bit of a Freudian slip as my brother can very often be too much!

rslnd · 14/12/2011 15:12

Has anyone booked a scan yet and how did you do it? Was it through your GP or a hospital direct? I havent seen a doc yet because I moved to a new area and had to get registered with a new surgery- proper palava!

PoppySeed34 · 14/12/2011 15:30

glittershoes (and rslnd) the scan was amazing, it's wonderful what they can do. It was an internal one, so not he glammest moment of my life Xmas Blush, but I nearly cried when they found everything in the right place and with a little heartbeat... but I couldn't as the lady was trying to keep me still so it didn't disturb the scan... :)

She said period pains are just things stretching. I've got them quite a lot in the last few days, which is weird as I don't usually get them, but it was very reassuring to see baby on screen and to hear them say it was viable.

Congrats missmiggins - that's amazing news. :) I'd love to have twins, but they only spotted one!

mrsmamma i think i agree with everyone else and not say anything for the moment, it's hard not too but I think with someone fairly young it'll be harder for them to understand everything.

Fingers crossed the next 6 weeks are uneventful and go quickly - for everyone! can't wait for the proper scan. :)

glittershoes · 14/12/2011 17:01

Sounds amazing PoppySeed!

rslnd, I haven't booked mine yet but have been to my doctor's who gave me the details of the midwife.

I have rung her and she has taken my details and said that there will be a letter in the post before Christmas with my booking in appointment and that we will book the scan from there.

Westcountrywife · 14/12/2011 18:02

Hi all!

Saw doctor today and everything seems good, booked midwife for 4th jan when I'll be 9 weeks... eek.

My symptoms seem to be coming and going, which is weird but at least I have some days that I can eat.

Mrsmamma another thing to think about would be can your stepson keep a secret? Seems a lot to ask of him as he'll probably want to tell everyone (including his own mum)!

Grin
mrsmamma · 14/12/2011 18:33

Yeah this is another thing he will tell his mum I'm sure and relations aren't good so I def don't want her knowing! It will be hard to keep quiet but I think its for the best! He is a very mature 11 I'm not worried about him taking bad news it's more his witch of a mother knowing!

I'm at midwife on 28th dec! Does anyone know what to expect?

Gnomi · 14/12/2011 20:40

Congratulations MrsMiggins!

The first midwife appointment for me was quite lOng- around an hour I think. She took blood, urine samples and gave me the flu jab. She took my dates and stuff and told me about all the screening tests. She also gave me a big pack full of leaflets and things, on everything to do with pregnancy.

Her first question though was "Have you thought about having a home birth?" This totally threw me - I thought shed want some kind of evidence that I am actually pregnant!

I'm just desperate for my scan date now!

Angel, I know how awful insomnia is - I don't know if there's much you can do about it, but if you're feeling sick in the middle of the night you might want to put some crackers by your bed. I seem to feel worse when Ive not eaten.

mrsmamma · 14/12/2011 20:58

Oh I'd love a home birth terrified of hospitals!! That's useful to know thanks! I think they take ur word for it as the scan wud soon show if ur not although I do keep wondering jf I'm imagining it as only symptoms are sore boobs, I'm not even weeing much now xx

Westcountrywife · 14/12/2011 21:48

My doctor didn't ask about proof nor wanted any tests, I suppose it becomes obvious soon enough! I think the pregnancy tests are very reliable so they rely on those...

Eek home birth, thats yonks away and would totally scare me as a first question.

Angel786 · 14/12/2011 22:26

mrsmiggibs that's fab news! Congrats and welcome!

poppy if it helps, with the first pregnancy I had stabbing\ twingey pains in my sides and tummy - app it was ligament stretching and my intestines moving to make room for the baby Confused.

mrsmamma my first midwife aptmt last time was loooong! Questions about my general health, mental health, and heart etc and same in relation to my family. Then some info about what to eat, day healthy,no alcohol,no smoking etc. And details about your ante natal care I.e how many appointments you'll have, who with, what happens and when.

Tip: pick up the bounty bags, some of the stuff in them is q useful and the baby nappies are sooo cute!

PoppySeed34 · 14/12/2011 22:38

ahh, thanks Angel, that's reassuring.

mrsmamma that's great you've got a midwife appointment so soon. :) I think the doctor is referring me, but not entirely sure how it works. I've not got one yet though... i'm guessing in the new year, maybe.

night night all, early night as it's been an emotional day! Grin x

voscar · 15/12/2011 06:39

It's pretty exciting to see so many girls with similar dates, symptoms as me - and reassuring!

So many of you posted since I last checked and I'm on my phone so it's hard to check all the names! So one massive congratulations to you all!!! X

Can someone please tell me that they are already experiencing hormonal mental? We were shopping for a coffee machine last night and it turned into a disaster. I actually CRIED in John Lewis. Over a coffee machine??? Shock.

My boobs are so sore, my skin is very itchy, I'm bloated and I've stopped smoking and it just all got too much. Blush

PoppySeed34 · 15/12/2011 09:52

it's not just you Voscar, i cried about dinner last night - and that is SO unlike me. I had a bit of stressful day yesterday and was quite tired, so I think it was just a build up, but honestly, i'm really not used to feeling like this... Xmas Blush

I wish everyone a very uneventful Thursday Grin

rslnd · 15/12/2011 10:36

Thanks glittershoes- will call to see the doc as soon as my registration goes through.
It's so exciting to hear about others seeing the midwife- must make it feel more real.
It's so nice to hear how others at the same stage are feeling- definitely reassuring. Sore boobs are pretty much my only symptom at the moment and that comes and goes. Itchiness seems to be starting for me too in past couple days voscar.
Can a good day everyone- cant wait until time off for xmas!

Blondeybaby · 15/12/2011 12:02

Hey everyone, hope you don't mind if I join, had 3 positive tests last week. Very shocked, definately not planned as it is a very new relationship and also just started a new job :-/ I am due August time.

Really struggling with feeling sick. havent been sick but spent the past week 1/2 feeling ill. My boobs are also very tender (promted the test). Struggling to eat anything! What are you all finding easiest to eat? xx

Deafworm · 15/12/2011 13:38

Voscar I cried and had a hormonal tantrum this morning because I couldn't find my purse! Had to work very hard at not crying at dd1s nativity this morning too Xmas Grin

I'm aiming for a home birth, I've missed out twice now once for good reason and once because I was in hospital for a checkup when I went into labour, this is the last baby so I'm determined to get my home birth! My drs appointment is booked for Monday morning and I'm going to give the local midwives a call about low dose aspirin, I had pre eclampsia with dd1 and 2 but was on low dose aspirin with dd3 and had no problems so want that started ASAP.

mrsmamma · 15/12/2011 14:01

I nearly cried at work yesterday over something daft don't worry!!

Well I thought my midwife app was late as when I go I'll be 9 weeks n 5 days I thought they were meant to happen at 8 weeks! Less than 2 weeks so not too long to wait! Have never wanted Xmas to come and go so much in my life

Angel786 · 15/12/2011 18:53

mrsmama I'm 7 and a bit weeks ATM and haven't had a midwife appointment thru yet Confused with dd1 it was around ten weeks but will call the hospital to arrange one soon I think.

Welcome * am feeling nauseous all the time and no tips I'm afraid. I tried Ginger but doesn't seem to help... Only craving is junk food which doesn't help.
