dooscooby I am exactly the same. I just know there's so much that can go wrong, and statistically speaking it's quite unlikely, but I don't know if I will be able to relax until baby is here, healthy and well. It freaks me out when people say ooh, baby soon, and my MIL is overly excited, but I just can't let myself get there yet! Maybe after the 20 week scan I may allow myself a leetle more optimism, but I doubt it. Grin Strangely, I am normally quite a positive person. I think I just cope better when in denial, almost.

owl sorry to hear you are getting some pressure. They're going to have a field day with me, my booking in BP was 142/86, and that dropped last time to 130/82 Shock. I'm quite Shock as generally fit and well, slim-ish and exercise loads and eat well. Never mind. Best of luck to you!

Waves to all you lovely ladies!

dooscooby · 01/08/2011 15:37

thanks to everyone for their input - you've made me feel much better and confident in my approach. I just wish people who are supposed to be supportive to us could just bite their tongue for our sake and not add to the stressing!

Anyway, hopefully everything will be ok at the scan on Thurs and then I will feel ok about being over here more 'publicly' and be less 'me, me'.

Hope you all have happy weeks until then x

LaraandLittleBean · 01/08/2011 15:45

Doo - I too remain extremely worried / anxious / neurotic about this pg. In JL yesterday I asked what their returns policy was "in case something goes wrong". DH thought I was being ridiculous and apologised to them for the fact that my "glass is always half empty". It's nothing to do with being negative - I am just so worried!

I think we will all worry until our babies are here (and then we'll develop a whole new set of worries for the next 18 years). I thought it would all get better once the pg progressed but if anything, it feels worse because I have such an obvious bump and therefore I feel that the whole world knows it will all seem like a big farce once if something happens. Then sometimes I have good days when I buy baby stuff, make plans etc and it feels more real and I think that yes, we might just pull it off.

I was in floods of tears at my scan when my little boy was kicking away quite happily and healthily inside me totally oblivious to my worrying. He was just doing his thing and growing absolutely beautifully. Good luck with your scan...

tiggersreturn · 01/08/2011 20:13

scooby - nothing wrong with worrying excessively. It's perfectly normal (at least if we're all a sample) and for other people to say "well it was only an early one" or "I worried too" is neither here nor there. Your body, your pregnancy, your right to get through it in the best way possible.

Sod them!!!

Evening all :) it's been a while so I'm attempting a hopeless catchup so apologies for the general approach this time

Dachs as someone else said, it only takes one. I'm sending wishes to your follies x

My DH hasn't really understood my sense of urgency about getting everything ready until last week, when he realised it technically could be any day from now.

I'm still of the touch wood mindset, which brings me a lot of funny looks from people but I don't care! And to hell with anyone else's friends who don't understand

We don't dtd enough, I think he gets nervous about causing problems, but I'd have more if I could tbh as it stops me getting grumpy Blush Grin actually, I think he'd prefer it if I'd have gone off it. Never easy is it?!

Well, miniO dare I say it back to it's usual pattern after the 3 days of quietness last week. Someone asked why my MW thinks I'll be early, I think it's because I was 3/5 engaged and generally looked 'ready' so not too scientific :)

Oh, and I had a trial baby-holding for 1st time in my life (at age 33) with various friends babies ranging from 8 months to 2 weeks old. The 2 week old-er was particularly adorable :) :)

bigmacandhappymeal · 02/08/2011 09:24

Blackkat thanks for doing the list and Lara thanks for lovely message.

Bum update - got caught craning in the mirror last night to check for hair. Seems Ok at the minute but will be watching closely.

Orange glad miniO is kicking up a storm - I also need to book in a holding session in the next couple of months. I have no idea.

I noticed this morning for the first time that I'm having to sit farther away from my desk due to HappyMeal's presence mint magnums/pork pie indulgence. Where will it stop?

Happy tuesday everyone

Good work on the list updating ladies.

Thinking I might have hairy bum syndrome too - will get DH to check tonight.

Oh, has anyone heard the old wives tale about the linea nigra stopping at your belly button means it's a girl and if it continues past your bb then it's a boy? Well, mine has recently gone past my bb but has an almost 45 degree kink in it - wonder what that might mean! Shock Grin

cep · 02/08/2011 14:41

afternoon ladies. glad to hear you're all ok.

dach good luck with the follies.

wiw i hadn't heard that one wonder if you'll prove it correct.

LaraandLittleBean · 02/08/2011 15:28

Ladies - can anyone urgently help me find that thread someone (I think it was you, Collie) put up on accruing public holidays during maternity leave. I think my HR department are trying to screw me over and are totally clueless.... Or does anyone have anything governmental on a link somewhere? I tried to look on DirectGov but without joy on the public holiday side of things and it's "not covered" in our maternity policy. Dirty bastards!

tiggersreturn · 02/08/2011 15:59

Lara these links may be what you're after. www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/Employees/Timeoffandholidays/DG_10029788 www.direct.gov.uk/en/Parents/Moneyandworkentitlements/WorkAndFamilies/Pregnancyandmaternityrights/DG_175088

To recap - you build up holiday allowance over your maternity leave. If you work a 5 day week you are entitled to a minimum of 28 days statutory holiday. Since most people I know don't get 28 days holiday some of this allowance is made up from your bank holidays. Therefore the extent to which the bank holidays cover the basics will be the extent they accrue on. If you want anything further try posting on the employment board and you will get lots of highly informed answers.

OP posts:
DeterminedToGetDiffedDachs · 02/08/2011 16:17

thanks cep :)

Next scan 8.30 tomorrow, so I'm going to have to get up really early and get the same train as I usually commute into London on. (I haven't had to get up that early since I lost the twins! :) )

LaraandLittleBean · 02/08/2011 16:23

Thanks Tiggers - really appreciate it. I think the bastards are truly clueless. HR manager claimed in my meeting that I only accrue holiday during OML and not AML (which I am certain is nonsense) and that bank holidays are not accrued. That would mean that according to him, in an entire 52 week period, I'd only accrue a total of 11 days! Clueless!

CollieandPup · 02/08/2011 17:10

lara here is the link to the thread. There are lots of links on there some the same as tiggers and some extra. You DO accrue AL whilst on OML and AML ? see here But they can restrict how much a/l you carry over from this financial year to the next if you don?t take it all before you start your mat leave.

The Bank Holiday accrual is really not very straight forward. It seems to very much depend on how your entitlement to public holidays is worded in your contract ? what does it say? But, the upshot of it is, if it?s a paid benefit, then you SHOULD be entitled to accrue this. The law is unclear though, which I think is why there is so much confusion. Even the Commission for Equality and Human Rights say this and that more case law is needed. However have a look at the case law example in the link to the thread above ? this basically relates to a woman on maternity leave having the right to accrue fixed holidays (i.e. days off that must be taken by staff on a particular day- like Christmas). The outcome of this case law seems to suggest that this would also cover public holidays ? but its not that explicit. The other links in the thread link to guidance provided for local authorities on the issue ? which says that Bank holidays should be accrued. If I was an employer I wouldn't want to be the company being that test case.

My HR woman is back ? an totally useless. I?ve asked her about this 3 times now and each time she hasn?t answered my question ? last email blabbed on about the fact I do accrue my annual leave entitlement, despite me saying I knew this and my question being quite clear. I despair!

Anyone thinking about having their pay annualised over their mat leave so that its averaged out? I was, but am seriously reconsidering as I don?t think I trust them to get it right. And no doubt any cock up would not be in my favour!

harassedandherbug · 02/08/2011 19:41

Hello all, sorry I haven't been on for a few days. Been mentalling/freaking, you know, the normal stuff!

Had my 20 week scan this morning. Bug was in totally the wrong position. She couldn't get half her measurements and feet were frog like over the bits!! So was sent away for a drink and something to eat. That did the trick! Everything is fab, thumb sucking and arms waving. I was in tears !! Oh and we're having a BOY! Dh is over the moon, quite literally. I swear he's making plans already lol. And his suggestion for a name??? Rio..... honest to god......

bigmac ((())'s for you. Mine is soon too. It's horrible.

dachs glad the follies are growing now, although that as many as you'd like. Only takes one! Fingers firmly x'd for you x

God we're an attractive lot!!!

bigmacandhappymeal · 02/08/2011 19:53

Harassed Hurrah hurrah! That's fantastic news! It's making me want to open the envelope with our Team in it... Thanks also for the hug - much appreciated.

I got home to find my maternity swimming suit has arrived... someone warn Greenpeace that any calls about whale sightings in the Sussex area tomorrow are not true...

Dachs the very very best of luck for tomorrow

CollieandPup · 02/08/2011 21:13

harassed Yippppeeeeeee!!!! Great news on the scan! And team blue too!!! Wow, there's a lot of team blues!

owl how did the acupuncture go?

nix how are you? Last and final stretch!

wiw how is bumps movement now? I think extreme changes in the extent of it's movement, whether thats less or more, should be checked. But having said that Pup definitely has some lazy days and some over active days, so I wouldn't worry too much-although I am clearly contracting myself, but you know what I mean! (I hope)

Lara dh and I aren't actually arguing, which is amazing I used to get snappy with pmt and was sure I'd turn into a rage monster! However, DH is annoyingly lax about forthcoming fatherhood. I ask him sometimes if he's scared, about what it will be like, how things will change and how we'll cope...because I am all the time occasionally!! He says No! Humph! WTF? NO?!!! I'm not convinced it's hit him yet...

bigmac Yippee YAY for great scan, such a sneaky little post I almost missed it! Sorry your dd is looming on Sunday. It's a very Sad time ((hugs))

don't be shy! I think everyone has pretty much covered the fact that your feeling are totally normal (or at least by our standards). I've also had similar comments, mainly from the FIL but also friends. I tend to say very little, but it doesn't
make me change how I think or behave, otherwise it would be an act. I've found that with every week, I relax just a little more. The 20wk scan really helps enormously too.

daisy and orange baby trial sounds adorable!

bigmac where is your mat costume from? I am in desperate need for one. Really want a tankini actually and have seen a couple on figleaves but there are over £40 which I am reluctant to spend on something I'll hardly wear.

Pmsl at the bum checking!! Glad I'm not alone- although i haven't actually looked, but then again I don't need to Blush

Sat here stuffed, after stuffing my face with homemade curry!!! Yummmmm just waiting for more room to become available for my cream doughnut!

Blackkat · 02/08/2011 21:24

Brilliant news on scannage Harassed so pleased the break in proceedings enabled you to get the views you needed.

Collie try Mamas and Papas I got a nice tankini that's done me for hols and also for weekly aqua blimp.

lara this AL thing is a nightmare isn't it. My employment contract says I'm entitled to them in addition to my leave, but my mat policy says not. My employment lawyer friend says the contract overrules any policy - but I don't want to cause a fuss partic if I want to negotiate PT when I go back... ho hum.

Dachs thinking of you tomorrow, do hope the scan brings good news

Hoping all well with owl and nix to everyone else

wombatinwaiting · 03/08/2011 08:48

Thinking of you dachs and everything tightly crossed for your follies growing well.

re: maternity cossies - I ended up getting a decent underwire bikini from Bravissimo with low cut knickers with tie sides so bump goes over the top of them - so far, so good and the underwire is good for jumping around in the pool at aqua yoga (32-34F norkage here)

Thanks for enquiring about the movement collie - JuniorWIW seems to be active a lot of the time and has settled into a bit more of a routine (for now!) - I don't think we'd be satisfied unless we had kicking every hour at the same minute past each hour for the entire duration!

A rather Sad post from me I'm sorry to say. Our daft but darling dog Suki was hit by a car last night and after a very uncomfortable night where she yelped incessantly every time she tried to roll over, I took her to the vets this morning. She has a compound wrist fracture on a front leg and they think a damaged spinal cord and / or broken pelvis as she can't support her back legs. They have sedated her and are taking x-rays and will call later with an update. If it was just the front leg, they'd do an op and put plates etc. in but it's not looking good right now..... Sad It was a bit of a reality call though as I was up with her through the night but feeling so helpless as she couldn't tell me what was wrong - I guess this is just what it will be like when Junior arrives. It has at least dispelled my worry that I wouldn't hear Junior crying in the night.... Hmm

wombatinwaiting · 03/08/2011 08:50

Oh and lara - hope the mat leave / bank hol thing sorts itself out - what a PITA.

Harassed - have already sent my congrats on our other thread but wanted to say yay again!

Wombat33 · 03/08/2011 08:51

Good luck this morning dachs!

DeterminedToGetDiffedDachs · 03/08/2011 09:13

Oh wiw I really hope they can do something for your dog :(

Scan news not great. They are growing but v slowly. One appears to have stopped. So only likely to be max 5 eggs. Really bad odds for it working with that few.

wombatinwaiting · 03/08/2011 09:53

Sorry to hear that the scan news was not as positive as you'd have hoped dachs - can you remember the growth rate from your last cycle and is it comparable?

Just had a call from the vet and things may not be as bad as they seem for Suki. The front leg is a fairly standard fracture and can be fixed with a plate. The pelvis is broken on one side and may be what is causing the nerve damage. She seems to be able to bear weight on one side and both legs seem to be the same length. He can?t guarantee that it will sort itself out or that the traumatised nerve won't be permanent, but seemed to think it does in 9 cases out of 10?.. we?re going to see the vet and Suki around 6ish tonight and will prob go ahead with the surgery so not as bad as we had first feared. Sorry to hijack the thread with sick dog updates..... hope everyone ok.

CollieandPup · 03/08/2011 10:17

wiw ohh I'm so glad its not as bad as feared and it's lilly Suki could be ok, was very Sad reading your first post.

I had thought about a bikini but I'm staying in the UK for holidays this year so doubt It will be warm enough and want to also use it gir swiming un my local pool....and wouldn't want to put others through having to watch my whale belly floating about! Grin blackkat will check out m&p -did you buy in store or online? Are they supportive on the bust?

dachs so sorry the follies are growing slowly and your down to 5. I'l don't really understand IVF, but as wiw asked, how does that compare to last time? I suppose you only need one right? Really hoping they have a major growth spurt. Do you go back again for another check?
