collie I ended up getting mine from Figleaves but only because I was having problems getting one that fit - I'm 5'11" and loads of the ones i bought online were coming up too short in the body. It was either getting my belly out (i didn't do that pre-PG) or murder on my fanjo :) I know what you mean about ££ though - mine cost £35 and I do resent it. It's like when you get married and shops/suppliers put wedding tax on everything.

dachs sorry that the news isn't more positive. I'm a bit ignorant about IVF and don't want to cheese you off with platitudes but odds are only that - odds. What are the next steps for you now? Are you looking after yourself today?

wombat sorry to hear about your pooch. Fingers crossed all is well when you go to the vets tonight.

Daisybell1 · 03/08/2011 10:38

Morning all!

Dachs, I'm sorry for the news from your scans, am keeping everything crossed for you, and am also dancing nightly round my bonfire. The neighbours are terrified Grin

Owl how are you? Grad's thread tractor and slurry tank on standby to protect you from induction (great idea WIW!)

Doos you are reacting completely normally for someone with your experiences. It is a defence mechanism, and your way of coping. I was a complete mess running up to my 20 week scan (although I wasn't well at the time) and even now, I'm scared of the jinx pixies if I dare assume that all will be well and she will arrive safely.

Collie has the chiro helped?

Lara is your OH feeling a bit better? No meltdowns here, but a few teary/watery eye moments, he's certainly feeling more emotional about things.

Pink I'm with you on the baby shower

No DTD either here Blush for at least 10 weeks now. OH has stepped up his triathlon training somewhat to compensate Grin

Orange it was me asking about being early - I get it now about the 3/5ths thing. Still flying free here, the downside being I'm very breathless and have bad heartburn because her bum's in my stomach

Those worried about movements, I got one of the 'Count the kicks' bracelets as I found myself really losing track. Its fab, and is really helping. All I need to note is the time when I get to 10, and if its much later in the day, then panic!

Harassed amazing news from your scan, congratulations! And Team Blue - fantastic!!!!

WIW so sorry to hear about Suki, but they are amazing creatures and bounce back as much as they can. I don't know if you remember but our working dog dislocated her hip back in April. Because of a vets cockup it was out of place for a month, and so wouldn't set, but a further op to basically completely remove the hip has worked wonders. She hops occasionally but otherwise has full movement and is still a very quick runner. Fingers crossed for Suki!

Daisybell1 · 03/08/2011 10:40

X posts with Bigmac - Daisybean is getting a rejected sheepdog name Blush so I think that Suki would be highly appropriate for team pink Grin

DeterminedToGetDiffedDachs · 03/08/2011 11:04

daisy lol at the bonfire antics! :)

and I think calling babies after dogs is great - I have dogs called Eric and Ellie and I know loads of people with those names (although most of the Eric are significantly older than my dog...)

Re: IVF - here is a brief guide to how it works:

They give you drugs to promote follicular growth. To start with this encourages more follicles to develop than on an ordinary cycle, where only 1 would develop. HYou then carry on taking the drugs, to grow and ripen the follicles which started to be stimulated. When they reach 18mm they may contain a mature egg, so when the largest one reaches about 12/13mm they give you extra drugs to take to stop ovulation occurring so the rest can catch up. When they do egg collection they get eggs from about 70% of the follicles. About 80% of these will be mature. About 80% of the mature eggs may fertilise. Then anywhere between 0% and 100% of the fertilised eggs will split into embryos. They monitor the embryos until day 3 and then put them back in if there are fewer than 4 embryos left, or leave them until day 5 when they are blastocysts if there are more to choose from.

The previous two cycles I have done there have been between 10 and 12 eggs collected from about 10/12 follicles. Of these, about 9 fertilised and there were only two viable embryos by day 3. Working on those statistics, if I only start with 5 follicles I am unlikely to have any embryos to put in :(

DeterminedToGetDiffedDachs · 03/08/2011 11:09

I have another scan on Friday and they will either book me in for egg collection for Monday, or tell me I need to carry on drugging up until Wednesday.

bigmacandhappymeal · 03/08/2011 11:54

dachs thanks for that guide - really interesting to read and a brief glimpse into what must be a very stressful time for you. The Bigmac household has everything crossed for you xx

CollieandPup · 03/08/2011 11:58

Gosh dachs that's so complicated, but sooo amazing! So many appointments! I can totally understand your fear and sadness that this might not work, especially with half the follies than last time. BUT (and I'm risking outing my shit maths skills here) if you had 10 last time and 5 now, that's half, which means, based on the same odds as last time you could end up with 1-2 embroys. And of your 3 embroys last time, 2 fertilised.

I too don't want to give you any platitudes, as I can't imagine how hard this is for you right now, but there definetly seems like there is still a good chance you could have a couple of embroys, and you only need one of those little follies to produce a healthy, determined (just like it's mummy) little sucker of an egg to make a baby! I am sending those follies lots of growth thoughts. Xx

wombatinwaiting · 03/08/2011 12:43

Ditto to all that collie has said dachs. Thank you for the explanation and my goodness, the stresses must be quite something - sending many positive vibes to you, mrdachs and the follies.

Thanks so much for all for your kind wishes on Suki - it will be tough to see her at the vets later as I know she'll want to come home with us but it will be reassuring too. Thanks for your positive story on your sheepdog daisy - incredible. You have now got me dying to know what daisybean is going to be called!

I think Suki is a lovely name for a pinkhappymeal bigmac Smile

LaraandLittleBean · 03/08/2011 13:15

Morning ladies...

Dachs - please, please try and be as positive as you can. We're all rooting for you (did I spell "rooting" right?)

Harassed - woo hoo to team blue. So many of us are expecting little boys. Perhaps all the team yellows will be little girls. My mother (slightly bonkers as you all know) has a weird, distorted and totally messed-up theory that the birth of lots of boys means that a large-scale war will take place 20 years later. Utterly bonkers I know.

WIW - sorry to hear about Suki but good to know it's not as bad as it could have been. My dogs are my babies and I'd be devastated if anything happened. My boy dog in particular is a liability so has me constantly fearful. Suki is indeed a fab name and would make a beautiful name for a little happymeal. Would make for an interesting story one day if happymeal asks where her name came from.

Daisy - we are all in suspense over daisybean's name....

We're set on the name for our little bean now - we've decided to go with Luca. We had a shortlist on DH's phone but Luca seems to have stuck. Of course he might be born and look nothing like a Luca but it just feels right. We're thinking of Luca Maxwell and then adding my Dad's name (Lawrence or Laurie) as a third name (he died last year).

My stupid HR department are apparently "in consultation with a lawyer" over the accrual of holiday leave and bank holidays. Wotaloadanobs!! Good job I mentioned it to a couple other ladies in the office about to start their maternity leave cos apparently they were told a flat no re. the accrual of BHs. I will fight it to the end. I have no qualms about doing whatever it takes to get what is owed to me.

Blackkat - totally understand your position re. wanting to come back part-time and therefore not to push it too far but do remember, it's your right!

Did I tell you that I somehow deduced that a fellow MN-ter was going to be on my NCT course which starts next week. Anyways, PMed her, turned out I was right, we exchanged emails and met for a cuppa last night. It was fab! She lives two streets away from me and is due 6 days before me! Glad that there will be a friendly face. Am quite apprehensive re. my NCT classes (yes, I know - they start insanely early).

My sister's due in three weeks and her baby is showing no signs of moving from his / her firmly wedged transverse position (head buried in ribs), feet in lower right stomach. She's having that incredibly painful sounding procedure on Monday where they try and turn baby round. Owwwww....

Went swimming this AM. My buoyancy is changing! I am also finding I am swimming slightly slower (might be psychological). I need a new tankini although current one still acceptable (for now). Wonder if it's possible / acceptable to just put a vest over the top when I become mahoosive... (no need to reply to that - am aware it's an awful suggestion)

Right - off to turn out the banana cake I just baked. Will save a piece for each of you.

Youremindmeofthebabe · 03/08/2011 13:43

Where I live lara I see many a woman in the swimming pool with t-shirts and leggings on, FWIW.

harrassed congratulations! Lovely scan news, and team blue! Excellent.

All well here. Lots of work to do and rapidly expanding. Scan on the 19th of this month, just over 2 weeks.

Anyone know how long before I get my quad test results back? The blood was taken last Tuesday..

LaraandLittleBean · 03/08/2011 14:10
owlbooty · 03/08/2011 14:22

Bugger, Dachs - clearly I was not sacrificing enough goats. I'll go and get some more lined up. Chin up, lovely, this WILL happen for you. IT WILL.

WIW your poor little doggie - glad it's not as bad as they first thought.

Harassed Hoorah for the scan news :)

YRMOTB If it's anything like the nuchal fold testing where I am, if they find something they don't like they ring you within a day or two and if all is well they write you a letter which can take a week or two to arrive. But each area seems to be different. Sorry, that's not much help I know.

Lara good work on sticking up for yourself there - especially as it's going to affect others, it's amazing (and disgusting) what companies think they can get away with.

I've had another session of acupuncture today and if nothing else it's lovely and calming - so I'd definitely recommend it for anyone who is feeling a bit stressed. Lots of Branstons in the last day or so but nothing happening as far as I am aware - having a sweep tomorrow from lovely CMW if cervix is favourable so hopefully that will kick things off if they're heading in that direction. My BP today was 118/69 when I did it today. If one more medical tosser tells me I have hypertension and need inducing early I shall insert the blood pressure cuff up their arse and inflate it.

NIIIIIIX have you had the baby yet????

bigmacandhappymeal · 03/08/2011 14:29

Suki is added to the list and i am also now curious about daisybean's name :)

lara - i'm loving Luca. Also brilliant that you will know someone at NCT already - i'm Envy of that as I'm starting fresh down here. Sure it will be fine though. We woke up this morning and decided to take the day off as it's so nice. To the beach(ed whale)!

Youremindmeofthebabe · 03/08/2011 15:43

lara I live in Bradford.

Thanks owl- good luck for things progressing quickly after the sweep.

Daisybell1 · 03/08/2011 16:23

This was our book of 'baby names' Grin

Dachs thank you for that link, I knew the process was involved but not that it was so complex. I really am thinking of you, and have everything crossed for you.

Glad the accupuncture is working Owl, have everything crossed for you too!

cep · 03/08/2011 20:33

dach sorry the last scan wasn't what you wanted but fingers crossed the next one will be.

harrassed congrats on team blue.

wiw i hope suki is ok.

DeterminedToGetDiffedDachs · 03/08/2011 20:44

daisy Love the name book! :)

lara Cool name :)

Thanks for the positivity everyone. Now, all I need to do is make sure it reaches the eggs!

wiw Hope Suki is doing better. FX for a full recovery. My little Ellie had massive back issues with a couple of ruptured discs and no feeling, pain sensation or movement in her back legs as a consequence at the beginning of last year and is now so recovered that she runs around the house chasing the cats - I hope it's the same for your little Suki :)

LaraandLittleBean · 03/08/2011 20:46

Daisy - it's simply cruel to give us so much information but yet so little... I can't believe there is a collie list of names

BigMac - was it a legitimate day off? Quite envious that you can simply head to the beach. I "gave myself" the afternoon off and went to the park.

Owl - the acupuncture is a good move. Glad it's relaxing you. My sister spent all last night burning some sort of Chinese stick type thing against her little toe in the vain hope that it would make baby change position for labour. I guess that proves she's willing to try anything. Needless to say, baby didn't move.

DeterminedToGetDiffedDachs · 03/08/2011 20:54

owl Thanks for the goat sacrifices but they don't seem to be working. Maybe we should be sacrificing something else instead. Any stray llamas around?

owlbooty · 03/08/2011 20:58

I'm on it already.

We shall have success, oh yes indeed!

nickstermum · 03/08/2011 21:02

Just to let You know that baby nix arrived last night, little man called Corey weighing 7 15.5oz perfect in every way xxx

Bit of a dramatic labour... Ending in forceps del but all healthy and content and enjoying snuggles ;)

(loiters for owlet news)

DeterminedToGetDiffedDachs · 03/08/2011 21:08

Yay for baby nix! :)

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 03/08/2011 21:09

nix I've already done a big fb squeal for you but popping in here too to give you a huuuuuuge (((((hug))))) and say a massive congrats!!! Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Having been with you more or less for the whole journey it is so so lovely to see the happy ending - you deserve it, lovely, now enjoy those newborn snuggles! Smile

PS lovely name!

bigmacandhappymeal · 03/08/2011 21:39

hurrah for nix! Congratulations!

Lara - yes I'm quite lucky that every now and again my work can be quite flexible. I do a lot of out of hours work so accrue time off in lieu and i've been there a while so i'm trusted to know if I can take it off. Was such a lovely day and we've had a real giggle.

We've been having ML discussions tonight (right at the last minute). Think I'm going to start mine 2 weeks before DD and take a days AL each week for 4 weeks before so I'm only doing 4 days. That way I'll get paid for 10 days leave + BHs. The cash seems important. I really hope this is the right decision. I'm also telling them that i'm intending to come back after 6 months (but fully intend to be off for 9). Feels like a massive decision, but the reality is that you can only have so much info to go on.

Owl glad you are finding acupuncture beneficial

Daisy loving your baby name book!

Velvetcu · 03/08/2011 21:44

wooohooo nix congratulations Grin Grin
