First trimester - counting down to week 12

Currently 8 weeks - by my counting but was ill before this so not entirely sure of when I had my last period. Hospital has set up my first appointment on the 6th April and in the meantime I have been reading as much as I can about pregancy. At the moment have all the usual preganancy symptoms but from the internet research I have done I have a 50:50 chance of miscarriage and that doesn't factor my age as I am over 35. Anyone else just counting down the weeks to the end of the first trimester?

Hi Crazyhead and all the first timers

I picked out you crazy because I too am 34 and 6 weeks gone. LMP was 14/2 so all the due date calculators say 21/11/11 which does seem a life time away. We had been trying for almost 2 years so, like you, I want this so much and I keep checking for symptoms. I have no signs apart from being really tired all the time and my small boobs seem to have grown. This I keep checking myself and insisting on hubby feeling them to ask if they really are bigger.

I even booked in for private scan which I have on Mon. As I'll be 7 weeks then we are more likely to see a heartbeat. I keep convincing myself that there will be nothing there and told it was all a dream.

I took two tests when I found out then one yesterday - just to make sure!

My MW appointment is Weds so trucking along nicely.

Staceroo if the MW said not to worry then I guess it's not super serious. (But I too would be beside myself as that's what I do!) Fingers crossed it's something they can sort quickly and you can carry on. Do let us know when you find out.

Hi all,
I am so glad I found this thread, have all these thoughts!!!
I?m 6+4 (does that means 6 weeks plus 4 days btw??) and is my first too.

My MS seems to have gone :-( I was hoping to have some symptoms apart from the occasional sore boobs had last week and then got MS early this week... It's funny how once you get it and then actually feel sick no longer want it BUT then it goes and want it back again!! Tempted to get another pregnancy test to check...

I had to decide on which hospital to go to before could book in with MW (my closest shut down in November). Think we've decided now but annoyingly it?s not the forms docs gave me so need to go back again.

Sorry to be dumb again but I take it DP means other half? What does it stand for??
It?s ok for him cos he can easily not think about things but I have no idea how am going to get through 38+ days!! I really want to tell people (only closet & dearest) but he doesn't :-(

Missyraines · 01/04/2011 16:14

Hi uni

DP = dear partner or DH = dear hubby. There is a list of acronyms at the bottom of this page - worth a look as there are so many used in chat rooms. Never be afraid to ask though if you are not sure as we are a friendly bunch all going through this life changing experience together. Maybe we should do a stat list. Shall I start?

Missyraines age 34 - Pregnancy 1 - BFP 19/3 - Due 21/11

Staceroo · 01/04/2011 16:57

Thanks missyraines dh rang mw and she said I had a high potassium (I think that's what it was) level. I've done some googling and don't think its too much to worry about. More a problem with me than baby! Also its supposedly really easy to get inaccurate results which is why I have to go for a second test! Panic over!

Also I can't do the full stat list untill tues when I find out how big mini B is! I never had a natural period after stopping the pill so could be upto 12 weeks already! Watch this space!

On the way to surprise my mum who lives 3hrs away for her birthday this weekend, and really want to deliver the good news... Just got to convince dh its a good idea!

Missyraines · 01/04/2011 18:37

That's fab news.

At least you won't be stressing all w/e about it.

LyraBelaqua age 31 - Pregnancy 3 (1 DD 1 MMC) - BFP 20/02 - Due 1/11/11.
With my DD I only had symptoms for 1 wk and this time I thought I was going to get away with a little tiredness and a ravenous appetite, but no, I feel soooooo sick cant even look at a vegetable! Would rather not eat now, than eat something healthy! Why is it when I am supposed to be at my healthiest I am probably at my least!!! Anyone else feeling like this? But am very chuffed that now preggers women can eat brie as long as it's pasturized!! Yipee

sonnyd · 01/04/2011 20:10

Hello all,

Went for my booking appointment today (at 9 weeks) and after mentioning I had a small amount of spotting and abdominal pain, the midwife sent me for an early scan and...everything was fine!
I can't tell you how pleased and excited I was to see the teeny tiny baby with it's little heart beat. I'm made up and keep peeking at the scan pic and smiling!

Now it's time to tell the future grand-parents..a nice mother's day pressie I reckon.

Have a great weekend ladies xx

sunshinehugs · 01/04/2011 22:27

Hey, feeling lucky, my only symptoms are peeing more and snacking lots - guilt free hee hee! Love it! Looking forward to the big boobs and my booking in appointment, not looking forward to the MS. Great to hear it went well booking in ladies and exciting about the scans!

Feeling very blessed that I'm pregnant, had a feeling it was going to take AGES as know so many who have had difficulties. Well done everyone!

cookie9 · 03/04/2011 10:14

Good morning everyone. Hope you are all doing well. DP and I are splitting our Sunday tasks so he is going to do all the housework whilst I do the shopping. I have a busy week at work but need Wednesday off to go to hospital. Still disappointed won't have the scan then.

Soonyd - how exciting to see your baby!

LyraBelaqua - was eating well until last week. Tpo be fair I think as long as you are keeping down liquids try not to worry. Peppermint tea and crackers help me a bit and during the day I take a bit of banana about every half hour.

Staceroo - glad your mind been set a rest.

Missyraines · 03/04/2011 19:25

Hi all

I've my first scan tomorrow (7 weeks) which we booked privately as reassurance. God I'm so scared. Still no symptoms but peeing lots and v. tired.

Has any one else had an early scan and if so how was it? Soonyd glad all went well for yours and what a relief to hear the HB.

Ernie1 · 03/04/2011 22:25

Hello ladies - I'm so glad to hear others in the same position...

I've not really had any symptoms either - I'm 5 weeks not and only found out on Thursday. Also my sister-in-law gave birth last Sunday so we haven't even told our parents so that we don't rain on their parade... inviting them all over at Easter to tell them all and that seems forever away!

PS. Might change my Mumsnet name to 'KnickerChecker'

LadyOfTheManor · 03/04/2011 22:54

Ahem to those of you who are 6 weeks and less....join the December baby bus thread! I am on my lonesome.

I am 6 weeks and constantly knicker checking...! This is my second so I'm glad I've no sickness as of yet....

cookie9 · 04/04/2011 08:36

Booking appointment on Wednesday - time is dragging so slowly......

Told DP he has to finish the strawberry jam as I need the jar by then ;-)

Going to try to to get stressed at take it as easy as I can although work is very busy at present. Hopefully my tiredness will go soon and I will be full of energy.

7 weeks today (and counting!). I am soooo tired today - probably not helped by busy weekend (and why is it I can get through an hour at the weekend without thinking about next 5 months wait until scan but as soon as back at work am thinking about it all day!!)
I am also very bloated - have always suffered from a bloated belly but today as I rub my bloated belly know this isn?t the baby?. Any recommendations on reducing bloat?

UnicornFan ? age 32 - Pregnancy 1 ? BFP 23/5 ? Due 14/11

Missyraines · 04/04/2011 10:39

OK, OK so I'm a tad paranoid. I must confess I did another test this morning.

Still pregnant! Phew.

somebeans · 04/04/2011 11:33

Hello all, can I join please?

Somebeans - 30 - PG 1 - BFP 20/03

Am 6 weeks tomorrow and SOOOOO paranoid. Have slightly sore boobs and am tired but no MS and constantly worried. Felt better over the last 3 days or so and instead of rejoicing am now worried! It's driving me insane.

Have POAS 7 a couple of times since getting BFP so nice to know I'm not alone! Have booked an early scan 2 weeks today. Missy, I POAS yesterday as I told my parents over lunch and wanted to make sure I was still PG!

Unicorn I am working from home today and am finding it really hard to concentrate also.

LadyOfTheManor · 04/04/2011 12:45

Are you all electively booking early scans? Where I live they do those only as a matter of caution if you're very unwell, as an early scan is done through the vagina and not across the stomach and it carries a risk...

Missyraines · 04/04/2011 12:52

I'm using baby premier www.babypremier.co.uk/datingscans.asp

It says it's a tummy scan and only a trans vaginal if they need to. I wouldn't want that ideally. By 7 weeks It says you can see the HB. I just want to confirm it's all where it should be and not a blighted ovum.
I'll let you girls know after I've had it.

Welcome somebeans were you on the CBFM group?

somebeans · 04/04/2011 13:03

Hi Missy wasn't on CBFM group but was on a TTC#1 thread.
LadyoftheManor my 8 week scan I have booked privately and it is a tummy scan. I called up my local private hospital and asked them.

LadyOfTheManor · 04/04/2011 13:31

Yes I go privately too, but it isn't my first so I'm not desperate to see what's going on this time around, I'll wait until about 12-14 weeks.

Good luck.

Staceroo · 04/04/2011 20:08

Hi Missy, hope today went well? Wereyou able to see anything this early?

I have my scan tomorrow, which my GP booked for me as we are uncertain of dates. I think they need to know so they can make sure 12 weeks scan and other tests they do are on time! So future tip... don't keep track of your dates... get an early scan! hehe!

We told our mums this weekend! So nice to be able to talk to other people in real life about it (as lovely as you all are!) They're both so excited! Especially my mum! Talking to my belly in the highest pitched voice ever!

Big day tomorrow, second blood test to check my potassium levels, and then ... scan time! Woop! So excited, but part of me is still really nervous!

Really hope we are over 12 weeks... think I can be a maximum of 13 but could be a minimum of 8!

Oh, and am I the only one on here who's only POAS once!!???

Missyraines · 04/04/2011 22:16

Just a quick update before bed.

I had my scan and at first saw the big open space but nothing in it. I got scared but the sonographer said she could hear a HB. She said she needed to do an internal scan so did. We saw the little bean (10mm) and she thinks I may not be quite 7 weeks. We heard the HB too. I did well up and cry slightly at this point. I got 6 scans to take home.

She also spotted a 6 cm cyst on my left ovary. I've my first MW appointment on Weds so I guess I'll find out more then.

Any other ladies had cysts to deal with? I had an operation 9 years ago when they removed one on my right ovary the size of a grapefruit 2&1/2lb!

Staceroo · 05/04/2011 09:51

Awww... Missy So pleased you got to see your little bean! And hear a HB! Must've been emotional! It must feel so great to see your little baby inside you! I can't wait for that feeling!

I don't know anything about a cyst, as this is all new to me, but if you're waiting until weds, then I guess it can't be too worrying!

How was the internal scan? I'm going for my scan this afternoon, and may also need to do that if they can't see anything! Bit worried about it though!

Will let you know how I get on later!

Missyraines · 05/04/2011 10:39

Cheers staceroo and good luck for yours. If you think you are 12 weeks I doubt you'll need an internal. She could see something on the external just clearer on the other one. It wasn't too bad. It did make me giggle that she put a condom over the scanner though! We'll have to get use to people prodding our bits. It was the size of an average willy and if sex if safe during pregnancy..... Not that I've dared to allow that (TMI)

I keep looking at our print outs. It's amazing.

Let us know what they see.

Staceroo · 05/04/2011 11:35

haha! Now I almost want one to see what your expectation of "an average willy" is!

Fingers crossed we are 12, but setting myself up for being only 8! As we don't want to be disappointed, if we still need to wait 4 weeks before telling anyone!

I'm working from home today, but dh has had to drive to Plymouth! So preying there's no traffic and he gets back in time!
