First trimester - counting down to week 12

Currently 8 weeks - by my counting but was ill before this so not entirely sure of when I had my last period. Hospital has set up my first appointment on the 6th April and in the meantime I have been reading as much as I can about pregancy. At the moment have all the usual preganancy symptoms but from the internet research I have done I have a 50:50 chance of miscarriage and that doesn't factor my age as I am over 35. Anyone else just counting down the weeks to the end of the first trimester?

Hello everyone - how are you all today? Any new symptoms? Metallic taste appears to be intermittent - boo! - but my god, my boobs HURT! I can't sleep on my side at the moment, they are so tender! And the tiredness has well and truly settled in; come 2pm I can barely keep my head off the desk. I'm exhausted all the time, and am getting about 10 hours sleep a night at least!

Sonnyd: sorry, I wouldn't be any help to you because as soon as I have known I've told my family and close friends! It's toooo big a secret to keep to myself! My work colleagues guessed because I wasn't drinking and I smiled when they asked me why.. honestly I am an idiot. I should have more self control!

KatyCustard: That would be so weird if it was me haha!

TheFantasticFixit · 29/03/2011 15:04

Cassnstar - congratulations! What a lovely birthday present your scan will be!

I'm 'showing' already as well and only 5 weeks; I'm baffled and sure it is first trimester bloat; have already started dressing 'for my bump' if you know what I mean!

Kimmie30 · 29/03/2011 15:29

Yayyyyy!! A thread i fit in! I am 9 maybe 10 weeks. My first scan is April 12th! Seems like a life time away. This is my 4th pregnancy but it is totally different to the last 3. I am a constant knicker checker. Panic when i don't feel sick and i am soooooooooooooo frightened i am going to go to my scan and they tell me i have had a missed miscarriage!!! Especially as i am under extreme stress as my 13 year old daughter was rushed to Addenbrookes 3 weeks ago with a rare brain infection and has been seriously ill in intensive care. She is slowly on the mend but we have weeks/months of slow recovery left with possibly more ops! Just feel so scared this baby won't make it!!
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh that feels good to get off my chest xxx

MagGirl · 29/03/2011 15:40

I'm 39, live in South West London and am 6 and a half weeks into my first pregnancy.. Have mild but reassuring symptoms and am obsessed with finding handy/appealing/informative pregnancy websites - and reading about others experiences on here! Trying to think positive and not get too nervous about things going wrong.

MagGirl · 29/03/2011 15:43

Oh and I'm DUE around my 40th birthday, cassnstar... Good luck with scan and tests and enjoy yours!

TheFantasticFixit · 29/03/2011 16:14

Welcome Kimmie and MagGirl! Congratulations!

Don't worry Kimmie, I'm sure everything will be okay; although i think that we all sympathise with how you are feeling re the scan. Sorry to hear about your DD as well; hope that she gets better soon. It must be a huge worry for you ((((hugs))))

chocolatehobnobs · 29/03/2011 19:28

Hi Kimmie I'm exactly at thew same point as you 9+2 Sorry to hear that your daughter is ill. Teenagers have amazimg resistance to illness so take heart. When she is better you will have lovely news to tell her about the new baby.
Congratulations both of you.
Mag girl I have been like you frantically reading websites as if I'm giving birth tomorrow. Try baby centre uk for the baby development info. There are lots of lovely funny birth stories too.

sunshinehugs · 29/03/2011 20:21

Hey everyone, great to be in contact and some great tales there! I'm 5 weeks v.v.v. excited when I found out Saturday then had to wait two whole days to see the GP and I was only in there about 30secs! What an anticlimax! Looking forward to the booking in as well Staceroo!

No symptoms yet, felt nauseous on Saturday but that might have been the excitement from the test result. In the next 7 weeks I have a holiday in Tenerife with all the family (7 of us), two birthday parties and a hen do (in Ireland) which I'll need to handle! The family holiday will be Ok (yeay! I have to tell people.) Not sure about the others - I suspect I will be subject to questioning...the girls already give me a regular engagement ring check!

KatyCustard - so true about the leggings!

BikeRunSki · 29/03/2011 20:29

I am counting the days = 9+4 I think today - as I have been very ill (hospitalised) and it all passed at 14 weeks last time. Everyone knows though, as I have been off work and begging favours for people to take DS (2.5) off my hands for a few hours. Just want to feel better.

sunshinehugs · 29/03/2011 20:30

Hey Kimmie, being a newbie to this I had only seen the first page when I posted my message, sorry to hear about your daughter wishing all the best for you x

Staceroo · 29/03/2011 20:36

Ooh, hello and congrats to you all!

Booking in tomorrow sunshinehugs! Can't wait as hoping she will have some news about a dating scan! Part of me is glad we don't know when we concieved if it means I get to have a scan before 12 weeks so I get to see my little bean early!! (Oops just burnt bolognese to the pan while reading this thread... not a good example of my potential motherhood skills!)

Kimmie I hope your dd is recovering well xxxx

Still feeling really nauseous, but yet to be sick! Spent nearly 6 hours in the car today as a passenger with a collegue driving, and had to pretend I was car sick cos really thought I was gonna throw up! Still none though (thankfully- i think Confused

In other exciting news, I read my firms maternity leave policy today! 52 weeks off! Woohoo!!!

Oh, and after I've done so well keeping our little secret... by dh told his hairdresser yesterday! Angry though quite sweet really, he said he just wanted to tell someone... so better a complete stranger I suppose!

Hope all well... and waring nice bright white knickers!! :o

glitternanny · 29/03/2011 20:37

Can I join in please!
No symptoms here! I was really tired and sore boobs but now just seem normal and am a member of the knicker checkers!
Saw my gp on Friday - impatiently waiting for my first mw
letter to arrive but was told by the gp it'll be between 8-12 weeks!!! Am 7 weeks so possibly 5 more to wait!

Staceroo · 29/03/2011 20:39

Welcome glitternanny and congrats!

My mw letter came within about 2 days, so I'm sure you won't wait till 12 weeks, especially as you need to have first scan at 12 weeks! FX for you!

sunshinehugs · 29/03/2011 20:51

Congrats glitternanny! I have no idea when my MW appointment will arrive as my GP asked -

  1. When was the first day of your last period
  2. Do you take folic acid
  3. Do you smoke
  4. Do you drink
  5. Have you been pregnant before

..and that was it, oh he did say that I would get a letter and that they'd look after me which was reassuring I guess :)

Anyone else's have a DP who wouldn't quite believe they were pregnant till they went to the GP, even though they don't do additional pregnancy tests anymore (told him so!)

Ah bless Staceroo about your DH telling the hairdresser! My DP is getting smashed at the England game in Wembley as we type so god knows who he'll tell this evening!

LyraBelaqua · 29/03/2011 21:10

Wow, I knew I wouldn't be the only super anxious one but I'm so glad there are so many of us!!!
I'm 9wks on Friday and have been feeling really low as this pregnancy is following a MMC. I even had a private scan to try and make myself feel more positive but when I found out I was only 6 wks 6 days along but there was a def HB I thought "only 5 weeks to stay alive before I'm in less danger!" Pessimistic or what. Am putting it down to hormones as have now had my booking appt and feel SOOOOO much happier. Just to get things started makes so much difference doesn't it. You actually start to feel pregnant instead of a total fraud. Have a huge appetite at the mo and a huge tummy to match and have had people ask me if I was pregnant at work. Just said I hope so and am praying they dont ask again until I've had my scan.
Good Luck and happy pregnancy to all of you xxx

cookie9 · 30/03/2011 06:55

Congrats to all.
Kimmie - hope your daughter is feeling better.
MS is killing me this week. Missed work on Monday to stay in bed with bucket and yesterday had to dash to throw up. Being sick at work is no fun but at least my boss knows the reason and has been very kind to me. Only told boss, mum and best friend and of couse my DP and waiting to after scan to tell everyone else. Who have you told?
So tired!

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 30/03/2011 07:35

You don't mean you just told your DP you were pregnant, do you?

5 weeks 4 days checking in here.

glitternanny · 30/03/2011 08:02

Our families both know, I've told 3 of my closest friends.
Oh has told about 8 friends!!

I can't wait to tell the world!!

LouisaJF · 30/03/2011 13:20

I'm also 5 weeks, and 12 weeks seems like such a long time away!

Saw the doctor when we first found out and he just told us to see the midwife at 9 weeks. It feels like such a long wait, I just want to know bump is ok. I can take comfort in a fair few symptoms, and the joyous MS seems to be starting, but nothing will do until I see the scan and hear the heartbeat.

chocolatehobnobs · 30/03/2011 17:25

F#ck just remembered the folic acid reading sunshine hugs post (doing night and out of routine). Missed a few days _ whoops!
I was a bit impatient this morning and persuaded the antenal nurse at the hospital where I work to do a doppler. (My excuse was that my symptoms have disappeared at 9+s after feeling sick for weeks) no heartbeat but she said its rare to be able to hear it with this machine before 12 weeks so not worried.

sunshinehugs · 30/03/2011 18:01

Oh lovely that you have an antenatal nurse on hand!

We haven't told a sole yet, looking forward to telling Mum, Dad and sister in person on holiday in three weeks. They live over 200miles away. How I am going to cope without my mum close by I don't know!? She has been such a support for my sister and nephew. Anyway long way to go on that yet!

Staceroo......how did the "booking in" go? Look forward to hearing the details!

muzzy2011 · 30/03/2011 21:45

Oh thank god, I'm so glad I am not the only one stocking up on white knickers! Also checking boobs for soreness levels about every hour or so, have even mastered to do it discreetly whilst in public!
Just got to 7 weeks and got a private scan booked for Monday....literally counting the minutes!
Good luck to you all!

chocolatehobnobs · 31/03/2011 18:49

I think ms must be a bit like childbirth. When I was sick I was thinking that I couldn't believe I made myself this ill on purpose and that if I had a mis I would never try to get preg again but just a week later I'm back to normal and pregnancy seems ok. Still don't want to risk going for a curry though funny smells might do me!

cookie9 · 01/04/2011 06:55

So tired! Sneezed in bed last night and got terrible pain in my side - something to do with ligaments stretching etc.

Sonnyd - I know what you mean! I am the designnated driver now so that stops some questions but had one couple we know insist we all share a taxi so we can drink. Would tell them but unfortunately they just cannot keep a secret and I really don't want many people to know after after first trimester.

Not going out much as can hardly stay aay after 8 pm.

Staceroo · 01/04/2011 07:33

Hi all, glad all ok!

I had by pre booking where they went through some paper work, made me pee on a stick and took some bloods. Then made a full booking in appt for weds at home, after which they said they'll send my forms off to hospital to arrange my scan... So was thinking long wait!

But then got home tues to find I have an appointment for a dating scan on tues next week! god bless my dr for sorting that! So was all super excited, especially as midwife said there's no reason to think I'm not 12 weeks now! Really hope we are but not telling a sole untill we have scan.

Anyway my happiness fadedd when I got home yesterday as I had a card from the midwife saying 'not to worry BUT there was a high level of chemicals in the bloods they took and I need to contact my gp so she can re test me! I'm absolutely terrified as I don't know what this means, and won't be able to get to docs until tues. DH is going to ring midwife this morning for me to ask more detail. Has anyone else heard of this? I don't know what chemical they mean? :(
