Congrats to lia and to hopefully

lia sending you a big hug- you are amazing x

viv eek!!! You can start Reflexology at anytime from 12 weeks onwards. They just work different areas depending on how far along you are. They focus on helping to get things going from around your dd I think. It involves something very painful up the sides of your ankle!!

penguin are you all ready for your elcs? Don't forget to pack a large mug in your hospital bag- in mine they only gave you little paper cups for tea and coffee- very upsetting Grin

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 05/04/2011 12:38

you never know, penguin :)

I've got my reflexology booked for friday now, after having had a chat with my midwife today. but she thinks I may not even need it.
Still tightening irregularly, cervix 2-3cms, central and effacing! Shock
and I had just starting working on that bloody assignment again.
am torn between wanting to curl up on the sofa and sleep because I am exhausted and close to tears, and wanting to finish that stupid assignment (at least 4-5 hours work), tidying the house, and doing food shopping because I am out of biscuits and if I don't have biscuits the homebirth midwives won't be happy. I'm being irrational. I know.
Everything smells of straw/popcorn, but nobody can smell it apart from me.

I need a slap.

AlbaDeTamble · 05/04/2011 12:50

I did reflexology, was advised to start fortnightly from 30 weeks then weekly from 36 weeks. And avoided induction with late baby this time, but who knows if the reflexology made the difference?
However, I looked forward to it as it was a wonderfully relaxing hour! Definitely can't harm.... I'd go now Viv, and enjoy it Smile

AlbaDeTamble · 05/04/2011 13:06

Ivy curl up on the sofa and get all the rest you can.

PinkFondantFancy · 05/04/2011 13:14

ivy get the biscuits delivered, and get them to bring you some cake at the same time! Grin Definitely have a nap instead of doing the assignment!

viv I've had some reflexology before, it was fab! Definitely a lovely relaxing hour and fingers crossed it'll do the job as well! I've switched to acupuncture now but only really because Bupa will pay for that but they won't pay for reflexology which is a shame.

Have any of you had breathlessness around this time (15 weeks)? I've got it even if I'm only watching telly or I'm in bed Confused . I was expecting to be out of puff if I ran up the stairs or something but this is much more stressful as I can't do anything!!! Have seen a few doctors and had the full range of opinions from 'it's totally normal' to 'oh dear, it's too early in your pregnancy for that' - but without any helpful suggestions about what might be causing it.... I've been referred to a cardiologist and they've done a few checks which are fine so far, with a few more to go, but they're not expecting anything to come out of it. I'm wondering if maybe it's asthma? Or maybe the hormones? I'm on a couple of Cyclogest pessaries a day, but the clinic that prescribes them doesn't think that's what's causing the problem.

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 05/04/2011 14:19

pink I was really puffed out even when doing silly little things. I was also taking Cyclogest and I have read that progesterone does naturally cause breathlessness anyway, so I always wondered if having an extra dose made it slightly worse?

Rest up Ivy & Penguin (Shock at the £1 coin!) will be lurking for news! Osch how are you doing??

Becks you have found the right place, everyone here has been there so can totally relate to how you are feeling. Good luck for Friday, let us know how you get on.

Viv I still can't believe you are 36 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Big wave to everyone!

PenguinsMummy · 05/04/2011 14:54

Ivy get on the sofa with the biscuits! Def sounds like things are progressing so have a rest now. I'm trying my best to get as much rest as possible and DH is being a star around the house at the moment.

Pink I've been breathless throughout this pregnancy - no idea why & MW nor consultant could find any reason. Has improved now given bump has dropped.

Clareanna still not feeling ready for ELCS. Know medically it's the right thing to do and I can't risk a third 3rd degree tear but sometimes I wish DD3 would just arrive under her own steam - at least then I know she's ready whereas I feel like I'm kind of evicting her with an ELCS. Being stupid I know...will be fine.......

CaribouMoo · 05/04/2011 15:08

Yikes, LOADS of catching up to do. Ivy what's your news now, any more action - sounds like things are definitely happening! I would opt for the rest, you don't know when you will get a chance if you continue to progress. Your DH needs a good skelp! Some of these events may indeed be commercialised nonsense but we all need spoiled every now and then - and its not his decision to make on whether Mother's day should be celebrated or not, he can save those thoughts for June! If its any consolation my mother's day was cancelled too due to a very poorly DD who had been projectile vomitting the night before, so restaurant with parents cancelled and Florence Nightingale routine adopted instead. DH is still away in Ireland too so no fuss at this end either but purely because of circumstances. Everyone needs to take heed of Mr Viv's behaviour, a model DH.

Great to see all the newbies, especially our pals Dachs, Velvet and Pink from the TTC after MC thread. YRMOTB we're still keeping a deat warm for you over here x Welcome also to Daisy and Becks

Orange fab that your feeling your bean now and that DH can join in. My boobs stopped being sore around 14 weeks if I remember rightly but my nipples are still hyper sensitive - even if I brush against something! I sound like a perv now, going about brushing my nips against stuff for kicks!

Congrats again to Lia, hope you and your darling DD are settling in well - and please don't stay away for too long! Hopefully, if you ever lurk by your little man is very adorable.

Pretty that's amazing you are at 20 weeks already! Bet it hasn't gone quite so quickly for you though. The action should start shortly for you from your little one.

Ivy, or anyone else, a whole bunch of us have chummed up on bookface - just PM me if you want some details.

Pink I defintely glowed for a bit with DD, not so much this time round. I think maybe a few weeks ago I glowed for a day or so but mainly been tired, pale and drawn. I think with DD my glowing was towards the end of the 2nd Trimester so there's time for you yet! Well done Wombat on getting there!

Nicks thinking of you going it alone - I haven't enjoyed these last 10 days at all. Looking forward to viewing your bump, I need to get a decent bump pic taken then will bookface it too.

Penguins your date is sooo soon, how exciting!!! Fucking hell though, I'm getting right close to the top of the list! No wonder Viv is also having the fear!

My news is that I have terrible shooting pains at the back of my hip and can hardly walk without yelping in pain. Have hospital appt next week with maternity physio and booked a private appt in the meantime. GP reckons it is my sacroiliac joint. Just hoping this isn't here for the duration. I finish work next Friday but can't actually get in there because of the pain, I was in tears yesterday - which were probably part pain, part lack of sleep, part self pity and part hormones!!

VivClicquot · 05/04/2011 15:40

Haha I will not be showing DH this thread or relaying your lovely comments to him - it will surely go to his head. :)

moo - coupled with the list-induced fear, have just had some lovely - but scary! - news in that one of the girls from my NCT group (the one with whom I seemed to 'click' most) had her baby yesterday at bang on 38 weeks. She's the first of our group to have her baby, so it definitely feels real now! In fact, she and I met for coffee on Saturday, so feels very strange knowing her little one is here now. :) Maybe I ought to start packing that bag...

Have you got a TENS machine to hand? That might help with your back pain while you're waiting for your appoinments?

Oh and thanks ladies for the reflexology tips - am wondering whether my lovely acupuncturist who I saw while TTC does reflexology, so might give her a bell and see what she says.

nick - i want to see your bump too, so hurry up with your bookface pic!

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 05/04/2011 18:06

I spent the afternoon productively :) curled up on the sofa with my biology book, a pen and some sweets, wrote half my assignment while being rather comfortable, then had a nap. intend to do the same tonight, but with an indian takeaway instead. DS has already been fed and will have an early night because he slept terribly last night and didn't sleep during the day. just bought some biscuits, milk, bagels and bread, so at least if things do start moving along, the midwives won't starve. (My mw said "it's ok, we don't actually need biscuits, but at 2 or 3 am when your bloodsugar gets low, they help. But a loaf of bread from the freezer will do" - reminding me I had absolutely no food in the house)

moo that sounds painful. my coccyx gets stuck sometimes and that causes pain similar to what you are describing - hopefully the physio can help you. I saw mine yesterday, but apart from covering me head to toe in tubigrip she was rather useless...

penguin I actually missed the bit about the £1 coin. Shock
I always felt that I had evicted DS when I was induced because of PROM because he came out all covered in vernix and his face had that premmy look to him, but you just have to trust that there is a good reason behind everything and it will all be fine :)

ivy well done you- got to 3cms without too much trouble!! The final 7cms will fly by... Maybe some news from you by this time tomorrow I reckon??!

penguin pmsl at the £1 coin story- that should put her off childbirth and babies! Elcs is very weird and doesn't feel natural - but it's far safer than you both going through labour again. It is a surreal experience, but the theatre staff made it very happy and joyous, and though the recovery is intense it's very nice to have the fanjo intact!!! 6 weeks on and I feel ready to start pilates and feel pretty much back to normal.

viv I remember my best friend who was due the day after me with ds1 had her baby 3 weeks early and it totally freaked me out (think it freaked her out too!) I remember being in tears to Dh saying "but I'm not ready!!" like you I worked until 38 weeks, which I think can be a good distraction!

OrangeGloss · 06/04/2011 06:40

Viv what a thoughtful dh you have :)
Congrats to Lia I hope you feel a bit more settled soon. Congrats to hopefully too Grin
PV I'm sure you'll just pop any time now and end up massive. i hope your scan goes well
Pink I'm waiting to bloom. I wonder if bloom just means not as ill as first trimester Hmm
Nix I hope your first week without dh is going ok, and yay for the booting :)
Becks welcome you've come to the right place. Make yourself comfy :)

I had minor freakout/teary moment last night, a colleague is selling loads of baby stuff and we're thinking about buying their travel system. It looks great and is very reasonable. I know it's practical to get now, but I don't want to jinx things

DoubleDiffedDachs · 06/04/2011 08:33

Given that chucking myself down some stairs and breaking m coccyx hasn't hurt the babies I figured maybe they're here to stay so I've added myself to the list. :) I've put the 40 week due date there but I'm probably having ELCS at 37, so should I change it to that?

orange What travel system is it? I was looking at some at the weekend and with twins it's hard. There's one which would be more practical and less pretty and one i absolutely love but is probably less practical. I hate having to be sensible!

appleblossoms · 06/04/2011 08:42

Any news this morning ivy? Only 7cms left until baby is ready to come out! That's pretty exciting!! Hope it gets moving soon and you're not left in the limbo stage for much longer. Lots of resting in the meantime!!

£1 coin penguin?! I suppose that's one way to save your pocket money!

Your bump will pop out soon enough PV, promise!! Tis the lack of stomach muscles that make us second-time-round diffeders sport a bump so much sooner!! and I bet you do have a little bump, it's probably more noticeable than you think...I kept complaining to DH that I just looked podgy and he insisted it was definitely more baby-like than pie-like....although he may have just been being nice! Hmm

Welcome becks...you are definitely in the right place for wobbling and rejoicing alike. Have a Brew...we've all been there, tis a scary scary time, but you'll feel better after seeing all is well on Friday.

PFF sorry about the breathlessness...I didn't have anything like that I'm afraid. Hope it sorts itself out...

hello magic...how's life with the spiderbabies???

nicks you are very brave! I had a poorly DH in bed for 2 1/2 weeks and I found it really hard work...and I could just about persuade him to keep an eye on DS if I really needed a break. Good luck! Grin and I loved the bump pics on bookface!

moo I hope the physio can help with the shooting pains. You poor thing, you seem to have had a really tough time physically with this pregnancy! Good job the end result is worth it eh?! Hope you're getting time to soak in the bath/put your feet up/whatever helps!

big hugs to you orange...mini-freakouts are a pre-requisite to the whole pregnancy this time round I'm afraid. But it does sound like a good idea to grab hold of any offers that come along... remember the jinx fairies have been banned from hanging round any of us, so accepting the travel system won't jinx anything Grin....just a note of caution, others may disagree, but I personally wouldn't use a second-hand car seat, just because you never know if they've had a minor bump or something that has damaged the seat inside where you can't see...I know friends that have though, so it's a personal decision.

Off for a blood test this morning to see if my thyroid is behaving itself again with the upped dose...taking DS who SCREAMS every time a nurse/dentist/doctor etc touches me........ might be a tad traumatic!

I'm also in major nesting mode, tis very odd for me as I'm really messy not very houseproud normally...but I just can't stand it being messy at the moment. Want to stop work now and just clean the house! Tis a very odd experience for me! Grin

appleblossoms · 06/04/2011 08:44

broken coccyx dasch ouch!!! Shock Hope you're okay!

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 06/04/2011 09:05

slow early labour is utterly soul destroying. tightenings were every 5 minutes from about 4am till 8, but have fizzled out again. sigh.
Time to take DS to CM and finish my essay.

OP posts:
PenguinsMummy · 06/04/2011 09:38

Go Ivy! had loads of pains last night too Confused...

DD1 is 4 & has always had a tendency to put things in her mouth no matter how many times we told her off. We were supposed to be buying cakes at nursery for comic relief but she swallowed the £1 before we got the chance & was more upset that we didn't buy cakes than anything else Grin! but think after A&E visit & almost 3 weeks of having to poo on the potty & she may just have learned her lesson!! I hope......

owlbooty · 06/04/2011 10:23

Aw, bugger, Ivy , it does sound like things are starting to move overall, though - very exciting and I shall get the pom poms and brie out in preparation!

orange buy eeeet. Two fingers to the jinx pixies - a bargain is a bargain.

Oi, missus! We're only a week and a half away from the magic viability date, can you believe it??

CaribouMoo · 06/04/2011 10:45

Ivy, hope things progress nicely for you throughout the day. Can't believe you're working on an essay during these early stages, that's dedication! Looking forward to hearing from you soon!

Dachs - and I thought I was bad with my joint pain, blooming hell! Can't imagine anything worse with not being able to take proper pain relief, you poor soul.

Apples I was determined to enjoy this pregnancy since not sure we'll have any more children, really hoping this buggers off. Appointment with physio tomorrow, then NHS next week, so will see what they say. The annoying thing is that I actually did start to bloom a little a few weeks ago but it was very short lived!

Orange I wouldn't be worried about jinxing - it is tough to make those first purchases though. Then once you start you can't stop! I agree with Apples about the car seat though, purely a personal preference though.

CaribouMoo · 06/04/2011 11:21

I meant to ask earlier about Braxton Hicks. I only had them once with DD before the elective section, when the MW had been pressing a lot to try and establish that she will still breech. They were quite intense I recall.

Last few days I've had kind of dull achey cramps, but only around the bottom half of the bump - not the entire thing. I haven't really noticed any tightenings as such. Any idea if these are mild BH, or something different altogether?

VivClicquot · 06/04/2011 12:37

I've had a few occasions where the top of my bump tightens and gets hard, but it doesn't necessarily harden across the whole bump area. Similarly, 've had a few periody type cramps here and there, but they don't sound like BH either.

Yours,
Confused from Manchester x

Hopefully · 06/04/2011 12:50

Just thought I'd swing by and say a huge thanks to everyone for being so thoughtful and checking up on me and sending congrats for Jasper's birth! I've been so busy with business/toddler/crappy late pregnancy that I've only lurked here occasionally for ages, but it's so lovely to be remembered!

After a fairly dire late pregnancy (baaaad pelvic pain, rendering me and DS1 more or less housebound for 10 weeks. Yay), the birth (planned CS) was very easy, lovely and calm, and I'm recovering so much more quickly than I did after an awful natural delivery last time. J is feeding like a trooper and hardly ever cries (mainly thanks to aforementioned constant feeding!).

I can't believe so many of us who had a crappy time a year or more ago are either carting newborns around or waiting for their arrival. I'll be lurking here ready to pounce and congratulate as more babies arrive Grin

appleblossoms · 06/04/2011 13:14

Lovely to see you stop by hopefully, congratulations on such a beautiful little baby! I took a sneaksy look at your blog...am most impressed with your general craftiness. Think I may be sneaksing more regular peeks to see what inspiring things you've got up to next!

With BH's...I get loads of what I think are braxton hicks...you know when you do a sit-up and you're halfway up your tummy muscles all feel really tight? Not painful, you just feel it if that makes sense. That's what I get loads of from around 20 weeks. I didn't know what they were when pregnant with DS, and I got one whilst a mw was listening to the heartbeat and she commented on how I was having a BH as my bump had gone hard and DS's heartrate accelerated slightly then came back down after.... not sure if that's how they always are, or just how I experience them. Hope that helps!

DS behaved beautifully during my blood test, and the lovely lovely nurse had a quick listen to his chest after she'd taken my blood, as he's been up the last two nights with a nasty cough. Turns out he has a chest infection, so he's now got banana medicine and I'm hoping I'll get some more sleep very soon!

Anyone else struggling to work today with the glorious weather? Think I might go take my laptop in the garden and see if I'm more productive there than sat here looking out the window!

VivClicquot · 06/04/2011 17:38

Thanks Dasch for the list - it's super exciting to have twins on there again after magic's lovely double. Am just going to tweak it a bit as I'm not sure whether you moved everyone's dates forward, when adding yourself x
