Just found out I'm pregnant with an EDD on May 7th, so though I'ld kick off this thread. I have a DS who was two last week. I am suprised to find myself having very mixed emotions - excitement at the thought of a sibling for DS, but horror at the thought of the pregancy, birth and first few months. Anyone else just found out they're pregnant?

Azure - you beat me to it. Congratulations.
My EDD is 14th May (thank god for early pregnancy kits) although I fully expect to suffer from Obstetric Cholestasis again necessitating a c-section aroung 23rd April.
DD is 2 on 8th May. Even though this is completely planned I'm also starting to get quite scared - my last pregnancy was awful, and we are planning a move to the countryside and for me to stop working once no. 2 is here, so I think this one will actually cause more life changes than the first.

Azure · 02/09/2003 08:42

Congratulations prufrock! I'm looking forward to comparing notes on how it's going. Did you suffer from morning sickness last time? I was lucky, in that I often felt queasy but was never actually sick. I wonder if it's meant to get better or worse second time. I must dig out my pregnancy books - despite ttc for a year I now feel completely unprepared.

Oh boy was I sick. At least once a day from 5 weeks 6 days to 15 weeks, then less often. Last time I threw up was 22 weeks (well apart from during my c-section) My record was 11 times in 1 day!
But this time I have a wonderful homeopath who says she can cure my morning sickness - I really really hope she does.

Azure · 02/09/2003 08:55

Poor you prufrock - I hope it's a lot better this time round.

Oh Prufrock, very many congratulations! Will you definitely get OC again? From the reading I did when I thought I might have it it sounds really horrible. Do let me know if you want a survival guide to the countryside

prufrock · 02/09/2003 10:42

Well there's a 90% chance of re-occurence. And I'm already feeling itchy (but I'm sure that's psychosomatic). Might go and hijack ks's Madame Bovary thread re the countryside.

bossykate · 02/09/2003 11:09

congratulations to you both, fantastic news!

Linnet · 02/09/2003 21:02

Congratulations to you all

Ok, I'll let you all in a little secret of mine, I think I might be pregnant Haven't done a test yet though. I'm almost a week late and no sign of Af so It's looking good so far. If I am I'll be due May 2nd. I'll let you all know in a day or two what the test said, keep your fingers crossed for me.

Azure · 03/09/2003 08:52

Good luck Linnet. Go do taht test now - it's very unfair to keep us waiting!

I've just thrown up. I'm only 3 weeks and 5 days! I was hoping for at least another couple of weeks.

Egypt · 03/09/2003 20:24

good luck linnet - let us know ASAP!

Linnet · 03/09/2003 23:22

I had reservations about posting before I did a test. I did my test tonight and it's come up as negative
Absolutely no sign of AF though so I guess I'll wait and see what happens and maybe test again soon.

I'll let you all know if there are any updates though. If I don't manage to join you all on this thread, I wish you all good luck

Azure · 04/09/2003 08:45

Sorry to hear about the test. With DS I tested negative initially and then positive a few days later. Fingers crossed for good news.

hi all. am cautiously joining this thread. am just 11-12 dpo and tested positive with first response this morning. am in shock. did 2 tests b4 that were negative, but lots of people said first response was v sensitive so tried it and hey presto! still v early days, so am tiptoe-ing around the issue but of course v pleased

mmm, i suppose you should take it from 14 days b4 ov. because, as you say thats what all charts are based on (because average ov time is 14 days after a/f. if so you are exactly same EDD as me!!

Linnet · 07/09/2003 22:02

Azure, or anyone else who knows, is it very common to get a negative result to a test and then a positive one later on?

I'm kicking myself because I only bought one test instead of buying two for the same price, I was so sure that it would be positive and only needed one test when I fell pregnant with my dd so I didn't bother with the two pack.

I'm now just over a week overdue with my AF and wondering how long I should leave it before doing another test, don't want to go out and buy more tests just to have more negative results, don't have that much money to be throwing away.
I don't have any major signs, my chest seems slightly bigger but not tender and I don't have any sickness but when I look back to when I had my dd I had no sickness at all and didn't notice any changes in my chest until I was 9 weeks gone, when I did the test and got myself an appointment at the Dr's pretty quick, she was a surprise. Is it remotely possible that I could be but like last time it will take a while for the body changes to appear?

Gosh I sound desperate for reassurance now but we really want this baby if there is one. I shall await any wisdom that the wonderful mumsnetters can give me and hopefully have some good news for you all soon.

CAM · 07/09/2003 22:26

Prufrock can I add my congratulations to you, love Cam xxx

Egypt · 08/09/2003 18:26

prufrock,
yes you can def get a negative before a positive. it just depends on how long it takes your body to produce HCG. i should try a first response test. i used that 2 days b4 period and it gave me a +. others didnt and only now, (2 days after p) am i getting a faint + with clearblue. get testing !!

Egypt · 08/09/2003 18:27

how silly of me - that message was for linnet!! sorry, not familiar with you all yet.

bunny2 · 08/09/2003 21:47

Linnet, you'll find lots of women here have done neg tests before a pos one. I did 4 tests last month, all neg before getting two positives. Good luck.

Hi Egypt and twiglett, great to see you on this thread. Linnet, it is common to get a negative test followed by a positive. If there is still no a/f I would definitely rush out and test again - a number of people recommend the Boots test (which is what I used this time). Twiglett, mu understanding is that you can get a negative when you're pregnant, but you can't get a positive when you're not pregnant. Different tests have different sensitivities. I would be quite tempted to do another even so, just to put my mind at rest.

By the way, I still feel completely un-pregnant - no soreness, no nausea, no nothing. Not that I want any of this, of course, but it would be an indication of my assumed changed state. Prufrock - hope you're not suffering too much already.
