Just a really quick one to wish Happy the very best of luck with the ECV tomorrow, I'll be crossing my fingers for you and checking in for updates and similarly for Viv at the Midwife, here's to a lovely strong heartbeat, just try not to cry when you hear it Wink

All good here, textbook baby, head down, measuring spot on for dates. The consultant is perfectly happy for me to have my homebirth, with fortnightly scans at their nice relaxed thursday afternoon clinic till then, just to set my mind at rest. I'm now left with the small matter of getting my iron levels up to 11.5 (currently 11.1, so I'm getting there...) - before anyone suggests it, I'm veggie, so steaks aren't the answer - any other ideas? Apart from the spatone I'm taking loads of? I really would like to avoid the super constipating high dose iron tablets they prescribe...

Waves to everyone else, thinking of you all, will get better at my namechecking once I'm done with work in a couple of weeks time...

just quickly waving and marking my place here.
recovering from soft scoop induced salmonella (urgh) and shattered.
We've now managed to decorate the hallway, that just leaves us with the kitchen, two bedrooms, a living room, a bath room and a corridor to decorate. the list seems endless.

big squeeze and good luck with swi to louise,
and fingers crossed for Happy's ECV.

Alba, I've read that Alfalfa supplements from the health store are really good for iron, better than supplements, and quicker. not sure how true that is, but worth a try.
I think it's curly kale that has more iron than most other veggies as well....

malteser1981 · 18/11/2010 21:36

Alba - folic acid with iron supplements work a treat, and as Loopy said Vit C and reduce tea intake ('cause of tannin) xx

malteser1981 · 18/11/2010 21:37

Alba - forgot to ask.....why 11.5g/dl? Have you a low MCV or ferritin? Cut for homebirth usually 10g/dl. Just nosey really!

SamanthaB123 · 19/11/2010 02:30

alba I took floradix which is vegan I think. Tastes disgusting but does the trick. You can buy it in health food stores (Holland and Barratt etc.). Taking it with orange juice aids absorption. Glad you are good for a homebirth, I would like one next time - Grin. And you do avoid the hospital which is the greatest incentive.

Good luck tomorrow happy and viv.

Busy night again, a lot of crying since 8.30pm and not a lot of sleep. Maybe a growth spurt as feeding fast and furious. I'm not sure that my poor boobs are keeping up. I guess I will be going into mass production and will make gallons of milk for tomorrow. I'm really tired and really thirsty. As a matter of interest, as you will all know, I spent weeks only being able to sit on a birthing ball and even used one as a chair at work. Well when Ruby is crying we sit and bounce on the ball and it is like magic. She must find the movement really familiar and comforting. I would recommend spending extra time on the ball in pregnancy just to have this magic crying cure later - it's a godsend! All is calm here so am going to attempt to snooze, Sam x

Morning all. Hope you managed to get some sleep SamB. Good to hear that the antenatal bounce works as a comforter, had wondered about this. Will keep bouncing (said in the style of keeeeeep dancing for strictly fans). Smile

Hope all goes well today Happy, and for a lovely reassuring scan for Viv.

How are you keeping Buffs? presuming Buff Towers must be spotless by now!

A big hug going out to Louise. Hoping the bad days get fewer and farther between. Have you been back to the gym? Must be tough to keep occupied not on the leave you expected and not at work. Hang in there. x

Yesterday at work pretty manic, meetings ran on which meant I couldn't get everything I wanted tied up. Going in again today to finish up with a bit less of a rush. But that is definately it!

Wishing all a happy Friday x

Gi1da · 19/11/2010 06:55

Ps another Floradix fan here, though I rather like the taste. Also am amused that the packaging makes it look like plant food or something you'd keep in the shed. Bloody good stuff though.

Ooo oo, another question from me. Views on tens machines? Any good? If you used one did you hire or buy, if so which type? Looked on Amazon and was trying to resist going for a more pricey one, wondering if it really was worth the extra. Though I am a sucker for design. If apple made one I'd be helplessly tempted. Shame there's not an app where you plug in the electrodes in to the iPod speaker jack. In fact, that's a bloody good idea! Grin

clareanna · 19/11/2010 08:17

Positive vibes for Viv and Happy today

Gi1da good luck at your last day of work! it took me quite a while to get used to not going into work and getting into a routine with my days - this time round i can't wait! Grin

TENS Machines are good - suggest hiring one as a maternity tens is specially designed to be extra strong for labour pain, so isn't really suitable for use in more general types of pain that you might use a TENs for eg back pain (I used one when I slipped a disc in my back). I hired mine from Boots. It was useful in early labour, if only to give you something to faff around with! only irritation was that I kept wanting to get into the bath so I had to take it off and put it back on again. And as I'd nobly sent DH off to get some sleep (Which he managed to have!) I did get a bit tangled up...!
When I went into hospital I was 8cm dilated so it definitely helped manage the pain - but the best thing I learnt was the breathing tips from NCT.

Soooo.... in honour of Children in Need my team at work are dressing up as the kids from fame and doing a tombola...,. surprisingly I couldn't find a maternity ra ra skirt anywhere, so will have to make do with some backcombing, a squirt of charlie, gold glitter body spray and some leg warmers. The mind boggles. Am hoping people pay me to put my usual clothes back on!

northerngoldilocks · 19/11/2010 09:11

Morning everyone,

Hope that the spate of cat vomiting is now over - although did also have a giggle about your cat eating better than you clareanna

Happy fingers crossed the ECV works today

Viv - hope your appt goes well. Apparently the guidelines now don't recommend routinely listening for the hb as not finding it can be stressful. My midwife did listen at my 16 week one - I told her I understood it might be difficult to find etc, she did find it but only for about 2 seconds as the baby was moving around so much it was difficult. Think what I'm saying is that even if they can't find it, it doesn't mean its not there. My baby has a knack of being in the most awkward place ever. Had my 22 week scan last fri, baby was refusing to cooperate and took 4 goes before they could complete the scan. Yesterday was in hospital and took a while to find the heartbeat as he was lurking near my ribs - hoping for better behaviour closer to labour!!

Following on from my 'suitcase incident' the other day, I called my midwife yesterday morning who said that normally she wouldn't bat an eyelid, but because I'm rh negative I should go to the MAU to get a blood test / anti D. Went at 10am and finally got back to work at 4 as it was so busy. They seemed to think everything looked fine but I had a shot of anti D, need to ring today for the results of the blood test to see if I need more, but hoping not as really wasn't hit that hard. At least I don't feel like I was being overly neurotic now!!

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 19/11/2010 09:39

Clare happy fundraising today & happy last day at work Gi1da!

Good luck for today Happy fingers crossed for a cooperative baby who turns for you. And Viv for hearing the Whooo Whooos :)

Loopy have a lovely brekkie with your DH (Envy)

Sam I love that you are already talking about next time!

Hope you feel much better soon Ivy and are taking it easy even though you have a big to do list!

Glad you are enjoying your NCT classes Toomuch I am off to my first TAMBA course tonight Grin

Supposed to be on a course this morning too but I am knackered despite sleeping pretty well, hence I am still at home rather than in traffic battling to get across the borough. I have been wondering about taking floradix/spatone too as I have been a WRECK (exhausted, breathless sometimes and horrible restless legs) and did wonder if my iron was low. It was 12.6 at booking in bloods (9 weeks) and I can't believe it will have gone up especially with double bubble. Do you think I should ask for it to be checked? Started taking my prenatal vits again and trying to get lots of iron rich food swallowed down with OJ. Alba from my experience of being very anaemic after dd2 they told me it takes a month of being on iron tabs for it to go up ONE UNIT. I am glad baby is text book Grin.

PS Is anyone getting a little bit pissed of the with the bloody comfort/persil ad on this page that keeps opening when you roll your mouse over it? Or is it just me?!

stuffedmk · 19/11/2010 09:44

Had scan yesterday, baby was very wriggly but they got a look at everything and all looks fine, thank goodness.
Found out we are having a BOY Grin was very obvious lol

northerngoldilocks · 19/11/2010 09:46

Magic - click 'all posts' at the top of the page - this way the most recent threads are miles away from the persil ad - and the problem goes away!

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 19/11/2010 09:52

Great news Stuffed on your scan and your boy!

Thanks Northern will try that!

SamanthaB123 · 19/11/2010 09:54

Still awake here...how come this tiny little thing who keeps you up ALL night screaming is so damn cute! I'm like the living dead and I still love her. She is just so yummy!

Gilda - I hired tens from a link on the NCT website. I thought it was quite good and definatly distracting. It was pretty much the only pain relief I used. I would say it's worth the money. We paid for a 'gold' service which meant it came with a pre-paid envelope to post it back in. That was really useful. I think it cost about £25-30 altogether.

Loopy - I think I've got one more baby in me...it would be a shame for Ruby to be so much younger than her siblings (dd's are 12 & 9). She needs a brother or sister her own age. I can't wait to be pregnant again, I really miss it! I'm already not looking forward to the birth though.

Good luck to those who need it today - I can't remember who has appointments through my sleep deprived fog. Thinking of you Louise too. More later. Still feeding here my poor, poor boobs. They don't know what's hit them!

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 19/11/2010 09:55

Northern I must be blind and stupid - can't find where to click 'all posts'!!

VivClicquot · 19/11/2010 12:17

Morning lovelies,

Had a good appointment with the mw - a nice strong and very loud heartbeat was heard, with a very compliant baby who was happy to let us listen to it for some time. :) The heartrate was between 148 and 152, so there's much speculation Chez Clicquot over whether the 'anything over 140 means a girl' old wives' tale is true. Wink

I also chose not to have the triple bloods taken, based on the advice given by my consultant at the nuchal. (He said at the time that the nuchal measurement was so good that he would advise not having the bloods, but in spite of this, I had been erring towards having them for peace of mind.) Anyway, I kind of figured that I ought to trust him so he bloody better have been right!

Anyway, hope everyone else is good.

stuffed - what lovely news - and how exciting to know he's a boy!

Good luck for today happy!

Love to everyone else!

xxx

clareanna · 19/11/2010 12:32

Magic - show all messages is on the top - second line under 'Talk : Pregnancy'. Hopefully this helps?

Viv - exciting re compliant baby - must be lovely to be able to hear the heartbeat for more than 2 seconds!!

Stuffedmk - yay for good scans and joining me in the blue team!

Loopy thanks for TENS info - think I should start checking this stuff out now as planning a HB - have found it hard to start to even think about actually having a baby until now - but as am 23 weeks should start thinking about it and not being in denial.

Rang the MAU this morning - said that the levels in the screening test re blood mixing was less than 2ml - not sure if that means that they have mixed and its not much, or whether thats the lowest reading I can get, but either way it should mean that the antiD i had yesterday is enough and I don't need more. Bit worrying if it is a minor bleed though as really wasn't hard and makes me wonder whether I've walked into doors harder. Considering wearing one of those padded bump things you try on with maternity clothes all the time for protection!!!

purplehibiscus · 19/11/2010 13:29

hey ladies,

can I join you?

I had an mmc back in April. Just had BFP and due on July 29th. 1st baby. Not telling anyone, except DH of course, so really happy to be able to reach out to you all.

I am excited but soooooo trying to keep that to a minimum so as not be disappointed again!

I have to travel for work tomorrow (long haul flight) and be away for a week in a kinda stressful meeting, so worried about that. Also, just paranoid about doing the wrong thing! I wonder how early I can have a scan to check that everything is okay? I am scheduled for a doc's appointment in about a week. Should I ask her to book me an early scan because of previous mmc or just go for a private one?

all the best to you guys and thanks for rreading. I am happy to be here with you.

louisesh · 19/11/2010 13:30

Lovely news stuffedand viv

Hi to albaand*
Hilda* oh no bloody iPod had renamed you!!!!!

Hope all are well.saw consultant yesterday .p m results not back yet but have found e coli from pacental swabs so think that's the reason for Georgies death.can t identify where I got the infection from ,lots of us have ecoli with no signs or symptoms , which is how it was for me , just a big fat cruel twist of fate that. Did a swab from me yesterdayto see if I require any an.everyone saying son t feel any guilt I did all i could and to channel my guilt in to something positive ttc.felt terribly guilty y.day that o should have known but I wasn t unwell didn t have a temp..... Today I accept just a cruel twist of fate .consultant said even if Georgie had have been born at term she stillmsyhave had the infection and not survived

So unfair why us ? Why Georgie? Again we willnever get answers for the same
