Wills, so pleased the baby is the right way up. I don't know much about pre-eclampsia but understood it is always a risk if you had it in your first pregnancy. Very much hoping Mears or Leese is around to enlighten you professionally. Let us know how you are doing, and let's all send the vibe equivalent of raspberry leaf tea in the direction of the Peak District this weekend!

Fantastic news Katherine - all set for the HB now! You can relax and 'enjoy' the last few days of the pregnancy now...

Wills · 13/08/2003 21:51

Ghosty - what's wrong with your arms????

Katherine · 14/08/2003 00:45

Well here I am again, nable to sleep. Never mind still on a high so not complaining really. Its now past midnight so if bump turns into baby then "it" and DS will share birthdays! Chatsworth Farm to look forward to in a few hours time.

Hilary if you are nervous about maternity stuff then definitly go for some loose dresses and skirts. With my previous 2 all my dresses were just loose fitting stretchy cotton ones, not maternity at all. This time for some reason my arms have gone fat and I must be bigger generally but I've still outgrown my maternity trousers before I've outgrown my skirts. Skirts also have the advantage that they are good for afterwards if you are BF - can't BF in a dress!

Ghosty - I'm sure your arms are lovely. Pretty soon this baby will be piling it on all over you and I'm sure you won't think about your arms at all. I can't understand why this time I've gained so much weight around my knees! Why? and how on earth am I going to get rid of it.

HI Musica - how is it going?

Oh well suppose I can't waffle here all night. Just don't see the point in lying in bed. If only the plasterer had been I could be painting now..... (joking )

Wills · 14/08/2003 09:10

Have fun at Chatsworth Katherine - think you should book the plasterer - its guaranteed to make the baby arrive. I was thinking about you last night and your homebirth - I really hope it all goes well.

I've caught a summer cold so spent most of the night blowing my nose. I couldn't work out yesterday if it was a cold or hayfever since I spent the morning at a local open farm but I should have guessed when I started to get the shivers whilst trying to teach dd to swim at the local pool in the afternoon. Katherine - glad you told me about your experiences of Braxton Hicks as I had a good hour of very regular (as in every 5 minutes) tightenings that were definitely painful last night. Walking only made them worse so I got very excited - but as I said above most of the night was spent blowing my nose. Currently look like Rudolph the red nosed Whale !

Good luck today Katherine

Ghosty - I too have put loads of weight on but am more concerned about my legs which have got lots of lumps and bumps that I don't remember being there before! I've been wearing shorts but unfortunately they roll up exposing a little more than I would like. Given the heat we've had recently here in England and my lack of stamina for it I've blown all pride to the wind and wandered around in them anyway . Just get a T Shirt with "I'm pregnant" on it! I bought one that said "Not fat - pregnant" (because I liked the colour rather than the slogan). The only off putting thing was the number of men that read my chest and in the end I couldn't wear it any longer .

Ghosty · 14/08/2003 09:22

Wills ... have just e-mailed you

Katherine · 14/08/2003 20:29

Hi all. Well a day tramping round Chatsworth Farm didn't bring anything on so far although DS and DD had a great time. Think the baby enjoyed it as well- certainly jumped around enough!

DH back at work in the morning but then the family is descending in the afternoon to wish DS Happy Birthday. They won't be staying here but in one of the holiday cottages so thats a relief - crumbs that reminds me. Friday again tomorrow. Going to have to clean the holiday cottage and mow the lawn again. Aghhhhhhh

Hilary · 14/08/2003 22:33

I know it's yet another day of being pregnant for you but I'm quite pleased for your ds1 that he won't share his birthday for evermore with his littlest sibling and your baby will have his own special day too.

Wills · 15/08/2003 09:05

Hilary - we think alike. My dh's birthday is one day before his younger brother. His mum always made him take his birthday cards down. In this house he keeps them up for a fortnight or more !

Katherine · 15/08/2003 13:29

Same here. Releif really. 15th Would be good though - DS is 14, DD is 16 so 15th would be very neat!

Last night was amazing. Caught the sun quite a bit so decided to rub in some lavender lotion but had accident with jar and ended up with huge puddle of it on my belly. So ended up rubbing it all over to get rid of it (unfortunalty DH wasn't there to do it for me ) - anyway not sure if it was the effect of the lavender or the fact that I was so knackered but I slept right though for the first time in 6 weeks. No night time surfing and prowling round the house, no trips to the loo. Woke up feeling so refreshed - then mad dash to loo followed by panick - Why! Was there something wrong? But little one is moving, albeit less than yesterday. Could this be the quiet before the storm!

Both SILs and partners descending tonight to celebrate DSs birthday - DH has arranged a curry party for tonight! Fortunalty they are sleeping elsewhere.

Spent this morning cleaning the holiday cottage again. Terrified my waters were going to break on their rug but all done for another week now thank goodness.

Of to put my feet up with a chocolate stash now How are you feeling Wills. What a rotten time to get a cold. Sympathy.

Marina · 15/08/2003 19:33

Just thought I'd come to lend some solidarity to my compadres here and see lots has been happening while I was away. Very sorry to see that Katherine had that scare (thank goodness for voice of reason doctor) and of course was thinking of you all in that terrible heat. Not sure whether it was worse being term with ankles like veal chipolatas...or lying on a rubber-coated mattress in a non-airconditioned hospital.
Sorry to hear about your cold, Wills - I had a total stinker not long before going into hospital and know how incongruous it feels to be spluttering and sneezing at the height of the summer.
Thinking of you two especially this weekend and everyone else too.

mears · 16/08/2003 10:28

Have you seen Will's announcement? Not long now Katherine

Katherine · 16/08/2003 16:21

Thanks Mears. Looks like its just me now! Actually I've decided my bump is just down to too many chocolate biscuits so I'm going to go on a diet instead of giving birth

Pelvic pain is now really bad so getting difficult to get about - so DH, kids and houseguests have all gone out and left me. So its bound to happen now eh!....... No I thought not. Still can't stay pg forever can I?

Katherine · 16/08/2003 16:22

Maybe I can stay pg forever. Longest pregnancy is history. Maybe its not a baby - perhaps its an alien? Even DS has taken to shouting "Come on out baby" at my belly!

WideWebWitch · 16/08/2003 16:23

Oh Katherine, just wanted to sympathise that you're still here! I reckon booking the plasterer is bound to bring it on in the same way that if you light a cigarette a bus will always come around the corner (worked for me when I smoked anyway)

Ghosty · 16/08/2003 21:40

Someone somewhere posted a link about a website about long pregnancies ... like 46 weeks etc ... maybe that will be you Katherine !
Sorry ... not very helpful I know ....
How over due are you now?

princesspeahead · 16/08/2003 21:47

lol katherine at your son - my ds (2.5) asks me most mornings in a very concerned voice "has the baby come out yet?". This morning he said "has the baby come out yet?" and before I could reply he said, sounding slightly fed up, "no, you are still very fat" and walked off!!!

quackers · 20/08/2003 09:54

Not heard from Katherine for a little while - maybe this is it??? Anyone know?? Ghosty, how are you chuck? I'm doing a little better know and thanks for your posts. Much more positive and am willing to try again after 3 cycles. Got to be careful though if I do have a successful pg, have to time it well with DD going to school! She goes next SEpt and will be 4 yrs and 2 days - porr lamb!

Katherine · 20/08/2003 10:56

Hi Quackers - no still here - been posting on the due August thread seeing as I'm just about the only one left here MW gave me a sweep yesterday and I've had intermittent contractions during the night. Had a proper show this morning too so really hoping this is the start of it. Better had be as after much persuasion managed to convince DH to stay at home today. Will not be popular if nothing happnes!

My BP is up a bit but I put that down to a work crisis yesterday. MW is coming round soon to check it again so I'm thinking lavender thoughts and will ask her to check my cervix to see if there is any sign of action. Yesterday it was very soft but not stretching. If all this fails she wants me to have another growth scan on Friday although she feels the baby has grown slightly, and monitoring just to check all is well.

My son is one of the youngest at school and he was exhausted when he started but loves it now so don't worry too much about your DD. Glad you are feeling OK.

Jemma7 · 20/08/2003 11:01

Oh Katherine - Have been thinking of you.

No-one had posted to the August thread last time i checked so thought i'd check the birth announcements but obviously nothing there for you.

Looking good if you have had the comntractions and the positive show!

Fingers crossed for you!

pie · 20/08/2003 11:01

Hope things start to happen for you soon Katherine.

I'm still here though, and how are you doing Ghosty and Hilary???

Beccaroll · 20/08/2003 11:03

Im due on Saturday!

pie · 20/08/2003 11:05

Oh wills - remember it well xxxx Hope u well!
Katherine, I started mild contractions after a sweep with my first, she was a stobborn o/duer too! Later that evening my waters started to trickle and I rang the hossie. When I went in they induced me next day, but I only needed one pessary and I was away cos I'd had this sweep to set it off. It sounds like you're really IMMINENT!! Wahay!!!!
