Wills, so pleased the baby is the right way up. I don't know much about pre-eclampsia but understood it is always a risk if you had it in your first pregnancy. Very much hoping Mears or Leese is around to enlighten you professionally. Let us know how you are doing, and let's all send the vibe equivalent of raspberry leaf tea in the direction of the Peak District this weekend!

Myers, when I had my scan, the woman scanning was unbelievable. I shakily asked if there was a heartbeat (I suspected a problem) and she said "No dear, the baby's dead". My friend who had accompanied me (ds was looking afters sick ds) nearly floored her. Get her some training in tact for Gods sake.

Hi everyone ... so glad that there are more people to join this thread ... for a while there I thought that Pie and I would be alone ... although of course I am sad that there are so many of you that have had m/cs ...
I know how you feel about your scans ... I started a thread when I was about 8 weeks about how terrified I was and how convinced I was that I was going to lose this baby aswell ... I had so many lovely replies (it was called "I know it's silly but I am terrified" or something like that)
Guys .... The only way through it is to take one day at a time .... that is the best advice I can give you ... and also know that there are so many mumsnetters out there who know how you feel ...
And those bloody sonographers ought to be ejected into orbit IMHO!
Bunny2 .. I am due 30th Jan ...
Wills ... nice to see you back ...
Pie .. how are you?
Hillary .. you are being very quiet ... are you ok?

Hilary · 24/08/2003 11:33

Yes, fine thanks. I have been at a youth camp for more than a week, as a leader. Amazingly my sickness went off and I was able to be useful. The kids had a great week and I got from 12 weeks to 13 1/2 without even thinking about it much at all. Bonus!

Bought some maternity clothes before we went and was glad of them.

Wills · 24/08/2003 13:22

Bunny2 - I can't believe the woman said that to you. Bought tears to my eyes just reading it! I had an empty sack and I could see that it was empty - was told that it could be that my dates were wrong but I knew already that they weren't despite the flash of hope that these words inspired.

bunny2 · 24/08/2003 14:15

Hello all, Wills not sure if I quoted the witch sonographer to the letter, it was definately something along the lines of "I think the baby's died". I remember days later deciding to make a written complaint to the hospital but I just couldnt face reliving the entire episode on paper. Wish my mate had smacked her one though. How are you with your new baby? You and Marina nad KAtherine give me so much hope.

Ghosty, cant believe you are due in Jan, I remember you announcing your pg, seems like yesterday. That makes you how many weeks (cant do maths).

hewlettsdaughter · 24/08/2003 19:52

I make you 17 weeks Ghosty - is that right? I, too, remember your announcement as if it was yesterday. (I bet it's felt longer to you than it has to us!). Taking one day at a time is good advice I think. It is so hard not to let your thoughts run away with you - either negatively, expecting something to go wrong, or positively, thinking about the due date, birth etc (I know there's nothing wrong with looking forward but I feel like I don't want to do it too much in order to protect myself).
Bunny2, I was sorry to hear about your experience with the sonographer.

Ghosty · 24/08/2003 20:57

Yup HB ... 17 weeks ....
Wore my first 'maternity' outfit yesterday ... felt soooo much more comfy than I have done for ages (been trying to get by with 2 pairs of bigger sized trousers and tracky bums) ... BUT when I caught a glimpse of myself in a mirror I still don't look pg ... just like I've eaten a few too many pies recently ... The weight has just piled on around my middle ... yuk!
Am sure I felt the baby move last night when I went to bed ... was lying flat ... felt a feeling like a little bubble bursting in my tummy so put my hand on my tummy and felt two more from the outside too ....
Got myself all emotional last night ... watched Sixth Sense ... never seen it before ... WOW ... what a fantastic film! ... scared myself to bits watching it, but got all emotional about the little boy and how frightened he was and then for some reason felt overwhelmed about the responsibility of parenthood ... and so sobbed on DH's shoulder for half an hour ... Bloody hormones!
He said, "Something tells me you must be pregnant!"

bunny2 · 25/08/2003 11:15

Hd, thanks.

Ghosty, feeling movements much be such a fab reassurance. How lovely. PLs dont worry about the weight gain, I am only 5 weeks but my jeans are tight. Think I'll be in maternity gear by 10 weeks.

Apart from a bit of weight gain and tiredness, I dont really feel pg, I wish I had some bouts of morning sickness to reassure me the hormones are busy at work. Can I get an early scan on the basis of a previous mc?

bunny2 · 25/08/2003 11:17

HD, how ru? You are a day or two ahead of me, any symptoms?

Katherine · 25/08/2003 12:01

Hi All - glad to here things are progressing along nicely here. You might want to think about starting version3 of this thread though - its getting very big now and would be a good time to update

Ghosty I get a realy kick everytime I read your messages. Things will start to move much more quickly now.

Bunny2 - Sonographers seem to be selected on the basis of their lack of tact. I've had "Well theres obviously nothing there" and "Well at least you know you can get pg quickly", not to mention being left in the ultrasound corridor for 45 mins in the middle of a mc with pg women having to squeeze past me. They really can be heartless. However if you can manage to get to an early pg unit then it tends to be a different world - same sonographers can be totally sympathetic and understanding. Getting a referrral varies a lot around the country but in Stockport I was able to just phone up the unit and they told me to come straight in and were wonderful so its worth investigating. Failing that talk to your MW as they will often send you for an early scan anyway if they see you are worried. Hugs.

Wills - Hope you are doing OK. I've started an August Babies thread in the parenting section. Come and join me.

bunny2 · 25/08/2003 12:20

Katherine, great to hear from you. How is it going? If noone has started a new thread, I will.
