A brand spanking new thread where we can chat about the state of our eggs, SWI, our veg patches and any other topic we fancy

Thanks hopefully I certianly need have flirtation skills

wow lolli - very impressive. Personally I'd leave it to whip the nappies off as it could take a while and a lot of accidents now and will probably take a week later. Maybe get pulls ups though ...

mamamuffin · 05/05/2010 12:07

Size 5.5 here so about average me thinks.
Oh lolli I want e s flood gates to open. No words still.
carrie are you stillin quarantine?
Hi fanny ive been thinking of you. good luck and Keep us posted. x
Hopefully I had a cervical tear with ds1 and still had ds2 naturally and fairly easily. When I go for smears they always comment on my cervix . I dont think mine is very attractive!!
Weigh in tonight!!!

Debs75 · 05/05/2010 12:49

Robyn has shot up to a sixe 4F, and it only took her 3 months to grow out of her first pair. at this rate she will cost me next to nothing in shoes. DD1 had masssive feet that just continually grew.

Had an accident day yesterday, she fell over and split her top lip, lots of blood and tears. Then she fell and bashed her eye and poked her other eye with her spoon. She looks like she's had her top lip injected it is that swollen. It's not bothering her tho.
we cheered her up and let her watch countdown. Seriously it is her favourite non-cartoon show and she shouts out the letters as they are picked, well the easy ones, she has no idea how to say W yet.

Lolli that's great about the potty, Robyn will sit on it for a few seconds when i am on the toilet but nothing comes of it

DebiTheScot · 05/05/2010 13:16

Debs that's hilarious, she'll be the new Carol Vordeman before you know it!

I got ds2's feet measured the other day (a very traumatic experience for everyone involced!) and he's a 6G. Well she measured him as a 5.5 but reckoned there wasn't enough growing room in the 5.5 doodles so tried a 6 which I thought looked too big. Didn't buy them but went home and dug out ds1's old shoes and he has doodles in a 5.5G which fit well and still have room in them. I didn't think his shoes would work as hand me downs but it seems that ds1 had bigger feet at the same age thn ds2 has so his summer shoes that he must have got at about 14 ish months old fit ds2 now.

Had a good weekend in Edinburgh, lots of rugby, friends, family and my best friend came and surprised me which was very exciting. And I was on the telly with Robbie Paul but if you don't follow rugby that isn't very exciting!

CappuccinoCarrie · 05/05/2010 13:28

We're out of quarantine for dd now (all her spots have scabbed over and I'm trying to distract her from picking them!) DS is being grumpy so there's a high chance he's coming down with it. So we still need to avoid our friends who have very tiny babies

My mum keeps suggesting I get the kids watching countdown. I think she wants them to be those child genii who are on it age 8! DD has learned her letters perfectly well without countdown. Maybe I'll give it a try one rainy day

lollipopmother · 05/05/2010 16:07

I think Doodles come up big though, Elizabeth's ones which are a size 4 seem large, we tried the 4.5 and they had about 2cm spare at the toe, ridiculous!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 05/05/2010 21:06

I'm another one who think Doodles come up big. DS measures a 7 but his 6.5 Doodles are still ok and have some room left.

lol at liking Countdown, that really made me chuckle. Maybe I'll see what ds thinks of it! He's defo starting to mimic and repeat words I'm saying. He made me laugh today because everything is 'two'. He has no idea of the concept of it, but he picked up on it when I said it and keeps repeating it.

Fingers crossed that ds is getting the pox Carrie.

Sounds like you had a good weekend Debi, and you're famous too! I feel the need for a holiday coming on.

we got the first two quotes for the extension through today. We could afford one of them. And they can start in three weeks.

Meglet · 05/05/2010 21:28

DS is a size 8.5 but last years 7.5 doodles still fit him which will save a few quid. Although going on the weather we usually get in this country I think I will save my money this year and just get him a cheap pair of sandals from Primark for very hot weather, if it's anything like a normal summer he will only get about a weeks wear out of them.

I'm not sure whether DD is a budding genius yet . She keeps doing the cbeebies number rap actions and yelling "FOUR" and showing me 5 fingers / thumb .

We are off to vote tomorrow. I remember last year DS was thinking we were going to see a boat and now he knows a bit about the election he was making up a rhyme about going on a boat to vote.

good luck with the extension carrie.

imoscarsmum · 05/05/2010 22:11

I'm the one who bought a funpod. We're doing OK with it and as C gets older she'll use it more and more I think. Atm, she just stuffs anything in her mouth when she 'helps'. Still a good place to give her a bit of height and security - she's not very sturdy on her feet, even though she's been walking for a few months now.

C is very keen to ditch the nappies and if she does wee on the carpet, she comes and tells me and tries to clean it up. I think she thinks she's ready to toilet train but i don't! She hasn't yet made the connection between the potty and her wee. She does try to wipe her bum with loo roll, which is v cute.

She is trying to speak lots now, going towards sentences but nothing clear yet. She is also good at copying - if I ask her to count the pontipines, she will go 1, 2, 3, 4 etc with her finger - stabbing her finger at each one.

And we have size 3.5F shoes here. A bit frustrating cos most shoes except first walkers start at 4. She loves croclings but they're too big. She hasn't got any wellies either so can't jump in puddles. Sigh. I might get her feet measured again soon.

Last weekend we bought - a slide for the garden from Toys r us and an 8ft trampoline with enclosure - should have been £200 but was half price at argos! C loved my sis's trampoline in the garden, so we're hopefully good for summer!

Finally, DP off to Munich tomorrow for a business trip. He's back on Sunday, very late, and I hope the ash cloud doesn't disrupt that. In a way, it'll be hard on my own but then again, i can watch what i want and am trying to plan some fun stuff for the weekend.

ninja · 05/05/2010 22:54

Imo no wellies - that's child cruelty , try and find an independent shop they sell smaller shoes.

Annoyingly I have one 3.5f shoe floating around the house, if I find the other I'll send it to you

M LOVES our trampoline, more than dd1 (7 today!)

carrie how exciting

Debs75 · 06/05/2010 10:14

IMO try Asda you can get a size 4 and use the thick socks they do or go for a size 9-12 months or 12-18 months.

Meglet · 06/05/2010 13:54

I have a sum for you, tights + laminate floor = slippy toddler .

Poor little dd ends up with bare legs whenever she is in a skirt / dress. The dc's often have their socks off at home but it's not a problem when they are in trousers. When will she get a chance to wear little skirts . I hope we get a hot summer so she can wear dresses all the time. She has lots of pretty hand me down clothes but she only gets to wear the trousers & tops.

notcitrus · 06/05/2010 20:07

A has started wearing his blue size 5s which luckily he loves, and less luckily can take off himself, so I'm looking for some extras for when we lose one!

Big news: we finally got carpet in the loft rooms! So we can start moving up there over the weekend, and over the next month move other beds round and get A into his own room this summer (thinking may leave him in my study as it's large enough for a bunk bed too). And we have wipe-clean floor in the dining room! I love it! Was huge hassle over the weekend moving everything and then having rolls of carpet taking up the whole hall so A couldn't get anywhere, and had to have pizza on Tuesday as couldn't get to the kitchen, but it's great!

Now, time for popcorn and see how much of the election I end up watching. Suspect I'll have a new boss by Monday...

imoscarsmum · 06/05/2010 20:27

oh and well done Elizabeth for doing a wee in the potty

Hope all is going ok fanny, can't believe they'll be another newborn on the thread soon!

And notcitrus - oooh, do you work in government?
I am not watching the election. i voted but can't change the outcome now, so i'll wait to see what the news brings tomorrow. DP in now in Munich and am I putting my feet up after doing bedtime alone? have I eaten my tea yet? NO! I am currently doing DP's accounts and expect I'll eat tea around 9ish. Grrrrrr. Back to it.

DebiTheScot · 07/05/2010 00:11

imo I've been working all night too. Has taken me nearly 4 hours to mark 1 set of books. Ridiculuos. Bed now.

FannyPriceless · 07/05/2010 01:34

Up late watching the election. Really shouldn't be but DH will be up all night watching so there's no point me going to bed yet.

debs75 Hoping the pg is going well for you. We think DD does know something is going on but not sure how much she understands. She is always coming up to me, lifting up my top and saying 'baby', sometimes with pats and kisses. But then she also does this to DH...

iom DD's feet were size 3.5 which was so frustrating when her walking was really taking off. Agree the wellie thing is a nightmare. But her feet have suddenly grown quickly and she is now 4, and likely to be 4.5 soon according to the Clarks man. Such a relief that there are now finally a lot more shoes available to us.

notcitrus · 07/05/2010 06:34

Woke up at 6 and my seat (LD/Lab, knife-edge according to the bookies and polls) expected to declare soon.

imo - yes I'm a civil servant, not in private office atm but work next to all the ministers so they wander past every day. Staff seemed to be moving pictures etc yesterday.

Several of my friends have been campaigning for the LibDems so they're both knackered and depressed.

DastardlyorSmugly · 07/05/2010 09:32

I'm disappointed the LibDems didn't do better.

imo you can get really small wellies in Next. DD had a pair of size 3s.

Nursery keep stopping me to tell me how clever DD is [proud mummy emoticon]. A few days ago her key work said to her "Have you done a poo" and she said "No Vi poopoo" (Vi is her friend) and lo and behold when they check it was Vi that had done a poo! Not sure what path this particular talent might lead her down

CappuccinoCarrie · 07/05/2010 10:01

I'm so tired! On reflection staying up that late to see that there is no result was possibly a mistake. Its DH I really pity, I'm away on a ladies weekend tonight, he's got the kids on his own til sunday afternoon!

DS was such a misery this morning that we put him back to bed at 8:30am! Really hope he's coming down with the pox Need to get him up soon as I want to go to the library to get myself some reading for the weekend, and I still want him to sleep at lunchtime so DD and I have time to ice a cake

notcitrus · 07/05/2010 12:38

Bah - went to the first of new term of Sing and Sign, A very excited, only for us all to find that the tutor had lent the keys to another tutor and not got them back.

So friend and I trekked off to local Children's Centre to play (20 min walk) instead. It was full. But at least had a timetable up.

We came back to mine instead. Been refilling the fishtank in between watching the news. Maybe I should name the new fish after various politicians?

CappuccinoCarrie · 07/05/2010 13:43

I think the world needs fish called Gordon, Dave and Nick!

imoscarsmum · 07/05/2010 14:54

Am impressed with your DS's daytime sleeping Carrie. Will DS just sleep on demand? If C has more than 60 mins in the day, she won't go to sleep in the evening. It's a bit bizarre really, she wakes up between 6.15 and 6.50am but then by 10am needs an hour's nap (always in the pushchair, we gave up on cot daytime naps a long time ago). She will then go through till 7pm without needing another nap.
I'm worried though when she goes up into the next room at nursery (and she's already overdue - the room she's in is 12 - 18m and she's 19.5months but there are no spaces yet. But I'm not worried cos the staff are so lovely, I'm in no rush), they do all their activities in the morning and the children have post lunch naps. Poor C will be falling asleep in her lunch if they make her wait until after.

imoscarsmum · 07/05/2010 15:07

Oh and will check out wellies at Asda tomorrow, thanks Debs. I would go to next but my nearest one is in Chester and the races are on this weekend so it'll be a nightmare of parking, frilly dresses, hats, insane heels and drunken idiots.

Meglet · 07/05/2010 17:13

All this election chaos is giving me a headache. I think I might have to hide the politics thread and turn off Sky news .

Is anyone doing anything exciting this weekend, I'm not by the way .
