Happy Birthday Debi

That was lovely IOM. I know exactly what you mean. I heard a Roberta Flack love song the other day which made me think straight away that it was how mothers feel when they first hold their newborn. The lyrics are something like this:

The first time, ever I saw your face. I thought the sun rose in your eyes, and the moon and stars were the gifts you gave.

Oh bloody hell, I'm in tears here now. Which is what happened when I heard the song on the radio

Hi Hopefully. I can't believe your mum made such a crass oomment. I just wish people would think about what they are saying sometimes.

M and I are loving this warmer weather, so much so we're pretty much living in the garden at the moment. I'm procrastinating about a sandpit at the moment. DS would love it but I know that the sand won't stay in the pit and I'll be clearing up the mess constantly.

Happy birthday debi x

Well I am full of snot/cold/sore throat/cough thing AGIAN...oooh its making me mad now. tthis is the 3rd time since the week before easter. Feel really rough.

I'm afraid I find newborns really boring and tedious....feed, change, rock, put down, ad nauseum. I love the smell of them (unless theyve just been sick or had a nappy explosion) and I seemed to spend a long time just looking at my dcs face when they were in my arms when they were babies, but they are so much more fun as they get older....they really do love you back You will never forget the first time they say "I love you mummy"...sob!

Off to bed x

Happy Birthday DEBI. IMO I've always sung you are my sunshine to my kids - and it's true they do make me happywhen skys are grey.

I agree that I prefer the toddler stage, tho' with M I did love the newborn stage as it was a lot more relaxed.

I lve (and somethimes hate) that M is a real thinking person with her own views and ways of expressing them with thoughts and imagination of her own. How does that happen?

I was sick all last night and felt sooo awful this morning that I asked the childminder to take Maebh. I feel awful about doing this especially since she's going to Ireland with H tomorrow to see his family (I'm going to a martial arts conference). I'm still not sure that I've got the energy to cope with her.

Don't feel guilty Ninja, you can't help it if you were ill. Hopefully as she's been away from you she's less likely to catch your bug. Unless of course the barfing was caused by alcohol?

I hope you feel better soon Bec. We ounced from one cold to the next in the new year and it drove me bloody potty. You feel ill enough to feel shit but not quite ill enough to lock yourself away for a couple of days, so you have to soldier on through it

Happy birthday debi.

I totally know what you mean about having more children and juggling school runs etc. I know someone with 4 under 7yrs and it turns out (quite sensibly) that her DH often does the morning school run before work and someone else usually picks them up. I had been wondering how the hell she managed it under I found that out.

Me and DS went to The Natural History museum today. Bless him, he was worn out after just an hour dashing about in there. I forced him to stick it out for another hour then we went to see the houses of parliment, very impressive statues around Westminster I have to say. I really wanted to see all the news reporters outside parliment on the green but they've all gone to Birmingham today for the leaders debate, just our luck!

Right, I had better get my dinner in the oven and go have a shower. I'm so tired.

ninja · 29/04/2010 21:17

No sadly - a bug. M had it last weekend but she was very cheery with it.

I've just realised that that could be my last bf , I wonder if it'll survive the 3.5 days away? I hope so

Debs75 · 30/04/2010 09:23

I have decided to try and cut out the last breastfeed at night. The last 2 nights she has been a nightmare, screaming at me, feeding for up to 90 mins, biting, chewing and spluttering all over me. It is getting to the point where I am really not enjoying the feed and I think my boobs need a rest before the newborn onslaught in september.
she was so upset last night she was hitting me and sreaming 'boobie' at the top of her voice. she finally went over when we went back to bed at 10.30 and i let her feed whilst we lay in bed, 5 mins later she was fast asleep.
Half ther problem is she is overtired, she is surviving on about 9 hours sleep max and she needs so much more.

imoscarsmum · 30/04/2010 09:25

Ninja hope your karate/kick boxing (I think?) tournament goes well and you don't miss LOs too much.

Meglet saw photos on fb - brilliant! Love DS's backpack. Please tell me DS is your oloder child and he's not 29/20months. And sorry if that is a really daft question and it's obvious how old he is - I'm really bad at judging cos C is so small, I assume all bigger kids must be around her age.

Looking forward to the weekend - my sis and her family coming over tomorrow for an early tea. Not sure what to do for the other days though. C has huge interest in potatoes atm, so might do potato painting. She gets little potatoes out of her cupboard and carries them round in her bowl offering them to all and sundry!
And this morning, I left her naked for a bit and she brought her potty into the bedroom and almost sat on it. Hmm.

Last night was great, me and another mum from baby cafe went to the pictures to see Clash of the Titans. Good film, great effects and 2 hours+ of sitting in a comfy seat with no other responsibilities. Yay

imoscarsmum · 30/04/2010 09:26

crap that should be older and 19/20 months. Bloody keyboard.

DastardlyandSmugly · 30/04/2010 10:06

Hi all - just checking in as have been in Devon for the last week. Absolutely glorious holiday - I love it down there.

Only bad part was had a scary accident with DD. Was pushing her round the grounds of the place we were staying in in her little trike and went to bump her down some steps to the soft play when the bike handle came off in my hands and she toppled down three stone steps still strapped into the bike She screamed and started crying and I was terrified picking her up as I honestly thought she was going to be covered in blood from a broken nose or teeth. Luckily somehow the bike protected her and she just banged her chin and scrapped the back of knee.

Schools still a problem for us . We're now on two additional waiting lists but no nearer to getting a place anywhere.

CappuccinoCarrie · 30/04/2010 21:16

We have the pox! DD has to be more precise, but that means all of us have been housebound this week and will be for the bank holiday weekend, then we'll have to avoid two best friends with new borns next week, and stay home again the week after when ds comes out in it. So glad to finally get it over with though, seems like a rite of passage! Thankfully dd isn't too ill with it, a bit tearful and slightly scratching but not got a high fever. She's loving the cbeebies art magazine - there's a great DIY fish mobile that we made while ds slept this afternoon, I'm really impressed with how much stuff comes with the magazine. Neither child seems to have noticed that we haven't left the house for three days! Tell a lie, ds and I went out yesterday (thankfully my mum was booked to visit from down south this week so we've had company!). I took ds to the shopping centre - I had a coffee while he played on the rides (without money of course ) then he sat happily in the buggy for the next two hours [chuffed mummy emoticon] while I spent my birthday vouchers! He was commenting on various things and ate an apple and was generally really happy to just be with me and mooch around the shops. What a little treasure. I'd never have got away with that with dd at the same age! He's learned the word 'another' so everything was 'bus' 'anunna bus' etc. Very very cute.

I'm impressed (just taking a moment here to rave about my ds, do excuse me!) at how he's using signs and words together, so he'll say for example 'tigger' while signing 'where'. Or say 'cake' and sign 'more'! He can say and sign all his colours now, although the only one he can accurately recognise is orange - the rest are all red by default.

Do anyone's LOs do jigsaws? I can't remember when dd started, but I know she could do 12 piece jigsaws on her own before she was 2. I've been trying to start ds on this one but he just puts the pieces on their side and drives them across the floor like a car! He sees dd doing jigsaws all the time so I know he knows what they are.

CappuccinoCarrie · 30/04/2010 21:21

Happy birthday debi!
I think we can only consider another child because I don't work - there's no child care to pay for or juggle with school runs and childminders, and thankfully although our families are a long way away its not far enough to necessitate flying! The new car thing is an issue - we might have to keep this one and put dd in the front seat, and then the other adult will go in the middle at the back if we're all together. This is all assuming we ever actually get preganant

CappuccinoCarrie · 30/04/2010 21:22

ninja hope the conference goes well, let us know how the bf works out. Enjoy the sleep as well

Meglet · 01/05/2010 12:06

bookmarking...

Meglet · 01/05/2010 14:12

IMO yes, DS is 3.6. I think he's about average height going off what his friends look like. We're going to do the science museum in June, poor little mite .

ninja enjoy your weekend. I'm hoping to get back to kickboxing soon. I think I need a regular gym / yoga / kickboxing regime to keep me sane.

carrie DS has managed a 16 piece jigsaw so far. They are one of the few toys that keep him quiet, I need to stock up on a few more as he is a bit bored with the ones we have. I am also slightly bored with having to track down missing pieces when dd gets her hands on them and they get flung everywhere .

CappuccinoCarrie · 01/05/2010 14:21

meglet does your dd do jigsaws? I'm just wondering about our 19mo LOs, as I'm sure dd was doing them at this age but i know I shouldn't compare my kids to each other

Meglet · 01/05/2010 14:31

No, DD definately doesn't do jigsaws. She throws them or chews them .

Debs75 · 01/05/2010 21:34

Robyn does the lift out puzzles occasionally but proper jigsaw pieces get eaten and thrown around.

mamamuffin · 02/05/2010 07:41

Just popping on to say hi and catch up.
We are definatley not at the jigsaw phase quite yet. I have however put away aload of baby toys and brought out the toddler ones, including a little people garage. However, ds5 is enjoying seeing the toys again and loves playing with them.
Hope the pox phase is going ok Carrie IMO thanks for sharing your thoughts. It was vomity but also very beautiful
Anyone know how our ponymum is. I thought she was due fairly soon??
Thinking of all of you ttc and wishing lots of new babies for you all. I am still undecided. One day I think lets do it the next I think no way. I think I better wait for now [phew]
Still no words. dig Baby e only referrerd for Speech therapy because of long waiting list. Not talking is not an issue at 19 months but would be in 6 months time.
I joined weight watchers last week. I was shocked at my weight I just have not been very good this week. Two heavy nights out. I will be thin one day.

mamamuffin · 02/05/2010 07:45

Sorry. Baby e has just jumped on my knee. Demanding attention! Must go.
Oh and there is a breakthru here. I am actually enjoying my little job . Three set days 8.30-14.30pm. Its far easier than staying at home and I am really enjoying it for now.
Have a fab bank holiday weekend. xxx

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 02/05/2010 18:38

Good news that you're enjoying your job Mama. It was you who was having a stressful time at work wasn't it?

DS has no interest in jigsaws whatsoever and has no idea of the concept of them - no matter how many times we show him!

We bought his summer sandals today - little Birkenstocks. God they're cute. But he takes a size 7

OP posts:
Hopefully · 02/05/2010 19:57

DS not remotely interested in jigsaws - most other children his age seem to get them, but with varying degrees of interest and/or competency. He just gets really frustrated if the pieces don't go in first time, and starts crying, so I've abandoned them!

He's been attempting to say 'oopsadaisy' all week as my mother keeps saying it, and it's so sweet I keep getting him to repeat to everyone. No-one else is as impresse as me, so I definitely fall into the stupidly-in-love-with-my-toddler category

Unsurprisingly, AF showed up, so we're into 6 months of trying . I'm contemplating going to see doc this month, as my periods have been so incredibly heavy and painful (and brief, weirdly. It's all over in about 2-3 days) since giving birth. Because I had such horrible damage (including cervical tearing) when I gave birth to DS, I'm paranoid that there's something wrong with me. not sure if they'll investigate at this stage, but I'm going to start nagging. DP and I were saying today that although we were expecting it to take longer than 1 month to conceive this time (which is what it took first time round), neither of us thought for a moment it would be 6 months or more. Urgh, must stop thinking about it as I get all depressed. Need to keep remembering how lucky we are to have had DS with no problems etc, and we're really not looking at a huge age gap if I fall pregnant in the next few months.

CappuccinoCarrie · 02/05/2010 21:18

hopefully when i went to the doc I took the line of 'even if I wasn't ttc i'd be here anyway coz my periods have gone weird' and got referred straight away. Policy is not to refer you for fertility issues til you've been trying for a year, but if you tell them the strange things that are happening then hopefully they'll take you seriously and get someone to check out whats going on. AF is rubbish isn't it

ITMIMI I got ds measured last week as he's still in his first ever pair of shoes that he's had since Jan...he's still got tons of growing room in a size 4! The shoes are pretty trashed so I'll take him back the week before my brother's wedding and get him a new pair regardless.

mama the photos of your boys are gorgeous I went through the stage you're in of sometimes being convinced I was ready for number 3, then the next day thinking two would be enough. But once the day come that broodiness struck me with a vengeance, its never gone away!

Thank you all for reassuring me about ds's lack of jigsaw ability, you're all great

CappuccinoCarrie · 02/05/2010 21:23

I think ponymum is due at the start of June, so about 4 weeks from now

ninja · 02/05/2010 21:33

Just back from my weekend course, it's aikido I do (a competitive form) and there was a top instructor from Japan over so it was really good.

It was lovely to see all my friends too and to really concentrate on the Aikido (and thw socialising). There was a time (pre kids and i bit post DD1) when I'd travel all round the country training and then was involved in squad training for world championships and a bit of me misses that (well having just come back from the weekend a lot fo me misses that, but next week something else will seem important).

I ended up having to express into the showers though as breakfalling with full breasts wasn't fun!!

M does the jigsaws with holes and loves them. At 2 DD1 could do simple jigsaws where you had to put a couple of bits together so I might try M. She likes those shape sorting things too.

Mamamuffin - I remember you post child being the first one to fit into your prepregnancy jeans, so I can't believe you have too much to worry about. Anyway being thin is overrated!!

hopefully oppsadaisy must sound really sweet. I'd be inmpressed!
