A brand spanking new thread where we can chat about the state of our eggs, SWI, our veg patches and any other topic we fancy

Carrie - you can come on mine . I'm planning to go here on 20th June (not booked yet) and then go http://www.insidespa.co.uk/contact.html here for a spa.

You are of course, all invited but I'll forgive you if it's too far away

CappuccinoCarrie · 24/05/2010 13:43

fanny that's a really good sign for potty training - if she knows when she's doing it and doesn't want to be wet then that's half the battle won, good work!

ninja I wasn't trying to get myself invited but you're very very kind! On the basis that its a couple of hours away, its fathers day, and its our last weekend day before we have to move out for a month, I think I'd better decline Our local one is [[http://www.goape.co.uk/days-out-in/north-yorkshire/dalby/the-course dalby forest] if you fancy joining me at some point in the future? What a MN meetup that would be! Of course I hope to be pg so unable to do such outrageous things

Today is day 28 and no AF, but last month it came at the very end of day 29. I have all my usual pmt symptoms, so its only a matter of time. This afternoon is my docs appt to discuss my test results and where we go from here. Hopefully will persuade her that I have enough endometriosis symptoms to warrant a referral.

Hopefully · 24/05/2010 13:43

I arranged Go Ape for a friend's hen-day-out a couple of years ago, it was great, but terrifying.

DS has had lots of suncream applied over the past couple of days too - at least he's got a reasonable head of hair, so i don't panic tooooo much at his refusal to wear a hat (he'll wear it in the pram, but not while actually moving around...)

DP and I are thinking of beginning to plan our wedding for late summer 2011. It sucks a bit as (and I warn you, totally shallow and self centred moment coming up) I wanted to not be pregnant or breastfeeding when we got married so that I would fit into a pretrty dress, but now it's taking so bloody long to fall pregnant it looks like I'll inevitably be feeding a small baby when we get married (assuming I actually manage to get pregnant one day in the not too distant future). DP is loathe to put it off until the following year, which I would, quite happily, purely so I could look nice. Am tempted to shift it to autumn 2011, but would mean abandoning entire picnic/outdoorsey wedding plan, which would suck too. Grrr. Stupid body.

Also, how do I find someone who will rent me a really big field somewhere in the south? We want to just put up a marquee and have a hog roast and picnic blankets for reception, but everywhere seems to be proper venues with set meal prices etc. Should I go and try to smile winningly at some farmers? Any ideas much appreciated!

CappuccinoCarrie · 24/05/2010 13:51

hopefully the weather is always gorgeous at the end of Sept/early Oct. We have lots of family birthdays/anniversaries that time of year and always have parties out on the patio commenting on how the weather is so nice at that time of year! I completely understand your in NO way shallow reasoning for wanting to delay it. Us women plan ahead in a way that boys just don't.
Smiling at farmers sounds like an excellent idea!

CappuccinoCarrie · 24/05/2010 13:52

...but also bear in mind that you'll need more than 'just a field' as you'll need toilets etc. Some venues might have marquees and do a hog roast/bbq option, but have all the facilities (bouncey castle?) you'll need as well. Yay we get to take part in wedding planning by proxy!

Meglet · 24/05/2010 14:08

LOL at hopefully fluttering her eyelashes as farmers . There's bound to be some good places near you. You could ask on your local freecycle / freegle to see if anyone knows. And if you leave it until the early autumn there will be bales of hay to sit on, barn dance style.

Yes, my go ape experience went something like this "oh shit" "bloody hell" "ooo, that was fun!".

carrie how's the extension today? Are they all hard at work?

CappuccinoCarrie · 24/05/2010 14:09

BTW I have a wedding planning spreadsheet...

FannyPriceless · 24/05/2010 14:16

carrie Thanks, yes it seemed like a good sign to me. A friend told me she potty trained her son in the summer by merely letting him run around commando in the garden, and he clicked straight away as to when he needed to ask for the potty. But I really don't want to get DD out of nappies until after our epic trip to NZ at the end of the year. I do not want to be on a plane for 30 hours with a half toilet-trained 2 year old!

I totally have my fingers crossed for you in the next few days. I do believe moving house is a very positive factor for getting pg! And all the best for the appt today.

hopefully Oh, if you were anywhere near North Yorkshire I could totally suggest some willing farmers! Late summer is a good time as they will probably have at least one field where they have just cut the hay, and the ground will be dry enough for car parking not to do too much damage. Why don't you go for a drive and put a friendly note through the door of any likely looking farms? You never know - they need extra income from all sorts of things these days. Also you'll have better luck if you are prepared to be a bit flexible around the farmer's needs.

Hopefully · 24/05/2010 14:38

Carrie if I come out of this whole exercise with less than 5 wedding planning spreadsheets I will be proud of myself! I guess somewhere with some facilities would be good, but we're happy to hire portaloos etc.

Good idea re dropping notes round farmers fanny, will do that. Wish we could get married in Yorks, I love it up there. Not sure the family would be very impressed...

The U button keeps jumping off my keyboard and hitting me. Most annoying.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 24/05/2010 14:41

Oh how exciting Hopefully - sounds just lovely and I'm sure if you got a field, you could rent any facilities (toilets, hand washing etc) and it'll still come in under what it would for a posh organised do at an over-priced hotel.

With the hot nights (and hopefully more to come), I'm glad we bought C a sheet sleeping bag here. It's literally the thickness of a sheet and C's slept through happily. Like me, she needs something over her - I just can't sleep unless i have some sort of cover. She's been OK though, going to sleep by 7.30/8 rather than 7.15 due to the heat, so not too bad.

C is mentally ready to potty train, I just know, but hasn't made the mental connection between her wees and the potty. She absolutely knows we go for wees in the toilet but if we let her run around naked, she will just wee on the carpet every time. We've never made a fuss and simply clean it up and show her the potty but I've ordered a bumbo insert for the toilet from Blooming Marvellous, as instinct tells me she won't be a potty fan and want to use the toilet instead.

Poor love, her nappy was soaked from the paddling pool this weekend so we stripped her off before bedtime and took her upstairs. She kept holding her bottom so i thought she wanted a poo and I showed her the potty only to find her standing by the bed doing a huge poo on the carpet! I'm quite pleased that i didn;t make a fuss or show shock and (TMI ) it was a nice firm one, so I just cleaned it up quickly with lots of 'don't worry'. She however was horrified and wailed and wailed, little love.

And I am a bit down today ladies, as I made the mistake of reading Oliver James article in the Times (see the discussions of the day) and now i feel so guilty cos as much as I try to ignore what he said, a part of me feels I am f*ing up C by not being a SAHM . And as for wanting another one, why I'm clearly just a breeder who wants to dump my kids as soon as I can! Sorry, sarcasm there - it's hard enough as it is, why do other people want to make it harder by piling on the guilt??

Debs75 · 24/05/2010 15:44

Had a mini breakthrough and have bought some leggings, I can't wear pj's outside I tend to catch my toe in the wide leg and trip up a lot. I have some Evans leggings and a large shirt type trhing which is long and roomy so should do me for a while.

Mrs Don't worry about What Mr James has said. There is always someone saying you are doing it wrong. I remember them trying to tell you that being a SAHM made your kids not want to work and they would be prouder if you was out of the home all day. You love C and she loves you and you are doing your best for her.

mamamuffin · 24/05/2010 17:57

I second what you say debs you are doing your best. I think there is no right or wrong. We just do whatever we can.
Baby E has chicken Pox. cheers carrie Its so full on. Must dash.

mamamuffin · 24/05/2010 17:58

Lol a topless fanny with wet flannels strategically placed

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 24/05/2010 18:27

Hopefully - why not get married at the end of this summer? Then if you are pg then you'll only be a little bit pg. And before you say it, yes you will have enough time to arrange it

How about emailing EVERYONE you know with a request for help finding a nice grassy field, then ask them to email everyone they know. Someone you know or one of their friends will know someone with a field or enough land for you to host the reception.

mrsArch - we do what we have to do for our families. If you are happy and confident in your decisions, then sod what everyone else thinks.

I bought ds that sheet sleeping bag last yeay and it was great. I dug it out on Friday and put ds in it ................ then noticed a good few inches of his legs were sticking out of the end And they don't do a bigger size - ggaaahhhhhh

ILTMIMI So glad to be able to provide you with amusement!

DebiTheScot · 24/05/2010 21:47

me too. The topless fanny cracked me up. Didn't spot the farmers fanny.

We've got a 0.5 tog sleeping bag but it was too hot this eve to put him in it. Have laid him on top of it to make it easy to put on him when we go to bed- yeah right, like he won't have turned round and/or thrown it out of bed.

I did Go Ape in Sept- it was awesome. i loved it.

Yesterday we got our huge, 10ft paddling pool (kindly donated by a friend who moved from a house to a flat) out and after running the hose for about 12 hours had enough water. While ds2 was sleeping yest me, dh and ds1 had a huge water fight then ds2 had fun in it when he got up. Then today one of ds1's friends came round and we spent all afternoon in the pool again. Well I did while they got in and out several hundred times. That along with a good cycle on Saturday has made it a really good few days. If only being a parent was always this fun!

Pacita · 24/05/2010 22:24

MrsRidcully, don't fret. Oliver James is a knob who, nearing fifty, still blames his mummy for his inner pain. Of course, guilt sells print, and the guy needs to make a living. Just don't let him do it at the expense of your peace of mind. And for the record, the more children I see, the more I realise that not a single rule can be universally applied, as they all thrive and develop in such different ways.

Anyway, I'm supposedly 6 weeks pregnant and do not have a single symptom (apart from canine hunger and sleepiness in the evening, which is not uncommon in me anyway), so I am still a bit paranoid that not all may be well. I feel tempted to repeat the test.

Hopefully my BIL is getting married here in a couple of weeks. You can hire the whole site and their marquees and have catering if you like or provide your own. The whole family is camping out together for two days - all the invitations have been designed as festival flyers for Wedstock.

We went to the Spring Fair at DS's school on Friday and it was lovely. We got talking to lots of parents and even one of the reception teachers. We're very very happy he's got in there.

Hopefully · 25/05/2010 11:27

Ooh, that place looks lovely dastardly, thanks for the link, will examine further. I found some random trout fishery nearby where you can have a marquee on the waterfront that all looks very lovely, so I might go and check that out too. starlight I'm loving your weather analytics! After all the mocking for my hospital spreadsheet (which, I'll have you all know, has been borrowed by not one but two friends to help with packing their hospital bags).

I think if I'm not PG this month (AF due in a couple of days, so all will be revealed soon. Not holding my breath though) I might be tempted to see if we can arrange a wedding for late September this year instead, but gosh that seems very close! I'll have spreadsheets coming out of my ears in an attempt to organise it all.

DS not coping with the heat - he was so hot and bothered when I picked him up from the childminders yesterday, but he enjoyed watering himself instead of the vegetables when we got home. I'm glad it's a little cooler today - he's too fat and fair for high temps!

DastardlyandSmugly · 25/05/2010 12:19

Hopefully the wedding is on 12th June so I'll let you know what it's like after that. The bride's family have all been before and said it's really nice. I think the bride and groom and staying in the gypsy caravan too which looks really nice.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 25/05/2010 12:23

Oooh Dastardly, you'll be in my neck of the woods (well, the same county!) for you BIL's wedding.

Defo do it this year Hopefully, there's no time like the present imo

It not just cooler here today, it actually feels a bit chilly when the sun is in and the breeze is blowing.

Weirdly ds doesn't seem to mind the sun and heat which is sort of good, but being fair and not having much hair makes me stress a bit.

I love all this wedding talk. I flew out to Sri lanka to get married and it was amazing. How about a beach somewhere??

Now these chicken pox are horrible things. Poor baby e had a horrendous night and was so itchy and unsettled. Forget the new toddler bed routine, He was in with us the whole night. Any helpful hints. I have just got some piriton and am using calpol and calomile lotion. I am supposed to be flying to benidorm on saturday. I am going to try and get a fit to fly letter from the gp at the end of the week. I have checked the airlines guidlines and they want a whole week from the first spot. We will be within this JUST! I dont want to be irresponsible and put others at risk though.

Work are being lovely about it but i must say its made me re think it all again.

mamamuffin · 25/05/2010 13:48

Oh and I got my silver seven pound sticker at weight watches last week. But I have been disheartened that no one can tell ive lost half a stone. Anyway, I have not been adding my points this week as its been all to stressful. I have probably put it all back on
