lol. just grateful I didn't have to think of something and then stare at it for the next month! How is J doing?

120 · 09/02/2010 19:24

I have to feed them as soon as they come in from nursery with a little picnic, then read them books in a quiet room, as they are overstimulated and just want hugs and to be near me in a quiet, non-demanding way. Their knackeredness is definitely a nursery disadvantage, sadly.

hackneyzoo · 09/02/2010 19:44

J is doing well, seems to have bounced back form the GA in no time and his stitches aren't bothering him.

Oh 120, I am too lazy too tired to read them books when I've jst walked in from work. I am terying to get a collection of audio books together though as DD likes listening to Tiger Came to Teaetc whilst looking at the pics and following it in the book. Wander if I can download audiobooks off itunes...hmmm

at title. Fab HKZ. Am glad biopsy and today went okay. When will you get news from the biopsy and what are you reading at the moment? I am a little obsessed with reading uni stuff, just checking I'm not missing out

Moose - Have you tried posting here rather than on the SN board? The SN topic tends to be inhabited by many parents of children with profound disability and whilst they aren't deliberately cliquey ime any topic where there are a group of frequent posters becomes a little that way... nappies, breastfeeding, aibu, childbirth.... they all have their own guru groups. The Education (SEN) topic is more transient and you would probably get a better response there. A lot of the Mums on the SN board are under immense pressure and they tend to be more venty iykwim than parents in other topics so what might seem a frosty response may actually be a relatively warm one!

Still not found a job am getting a bit depressed about it now.

Lenni · 09/02/2010 19:50

HKZ - We have food (snack) immediately after nursery, that buys me two minutes to compose myself, then bath, which is quite easy now since they just get on with it. And I can get DS dressed while DD still in the bath. Then go into DD's room with them both and since they haven't seen it all day the things in there are a novelty. I then pray that DH will get home soon and sit in the dimmed light watching for headlights on the lane!!

Lenni, I have almost finished the SENCO handbook and have a reading list as long as my arm, need to get the hang of ATHENS. When I go into work tomorrow I am goin g to print everything off...so will be picking your brains... I have to do a studyabout introducing a new policy in school around SEN. Am working with a number of students with ADHD, so makes sense to base it around this...so any ideas.
Biopsy results on Thursday and Hickman Line insertion booked for friday (provisionally). Am scared beyond belief, but keeping it together. Am carrying my MN card about in J's medical folder for reading during shakey hospital moments!
Hope the job hunting picks up, am sure more will crop up as we head towards the summer. Hays education often have good teaching jobs IME.

Dog that's wonderful news that your mum and Dad are on the mend. Hope they are home soon. great news about maddy too. Wow, 11 weeks already....1/3 of the way there (almost!). Oh and let me know what the film is like, I loved the book.
Happy birthday SMiler xxx

Oh no, I've missed it - grrr.

Books - I know something that you know too I feel like I'm in a secret club. Tis lovely. Your poor poor DD and poor you, breathing is the pits I've found. DS has viral induced wheezing (am sure in his case is asthma) and he looks/sounds a pityful soul with it. I couldn't begin to imagine how stressful it must have been to see your little DD that bad, hope you have got wine now and she is improving.

HKZ - Is it a reflective/action research type thing i.e. you have to introduce a policy and then reflect on it or is it theorectical? Lovely that you are carrying your MN card around with you but for J about Friday. You are totally amazing to be holding anything whatsoever together. I would be a mess.

I have a meeting arranged to see about doing a research qualification next year with some paid work attached as a research assistant. That hopefully could lead to PhD funding the following year - so maybe the job hunting wouldn't be as neccessary, but I'm still not certain I can commit to another 2/3/4 years of studying.

Pat - do you fancy bender a few drinks sometime?? I'm meant to be coming down there with my sister sometime in the next month or so and could leave DD with my sis and go for a drink or two. Only problem is probably going to be a weeknight

Lenni · 09/02/2010 21:32

A bender obviously.

Must go and find TV remote.

Dog - so glad your Dad is okay and op went well. Scary about your Mum but like you say probably good in the long run. Hope you are relaxing as much as you can. 11 weeks - wow!

missjackson · 09/02/2010 21:46

My good friend Brian made that doco... have missed too much of it to watch now but maybe I will watch on ch4 plus one.

great thread title hkz - you seem so calm but yet still in touch with everything if you know what I mean... can't even begin to imagine how you feel. Sorry, that sounds like such a cliche. But I think you are just amazing anyway.

dog good to hear from you - wow, can't believe you are almost first trimester over! It must be so strange to be pregnant fourth time around - do you forget for days on end?!

books so scary about DD and glad she is okay now. Can't believe the doc didn't organise an ambulance/ transport for you if you didn't have any of your own . Sounds like quite a palaver...

120 loving the sound of your picnic and mellow time. Am loving your blog in general with all the yummy food stuff and just want to be you more like you in the kitchen .

lenni about no job yet, but something great is going to coming along really soon. I am sure of it. LOL at fancy bender...

Super excited about meet up - please come dog! It's such a long way though, I know... . It's Fri 19th I believe. At Slimbridge.

Evening all

Have tried to read all, but am hopelessly behind after a day and a half with ds1 (well actually it all started last night and continued into today). Won't bore you with the details, but we are keeping him off school now until after the half term holiday. He has a bit of a cold, but that's not really why we are keeping him off, we just feel that he really needs it. Its all very stressful.

Books, what a horrible day you've had. Wish I could drive, then I could've come and taken you to the hospital myself.

Dog, glad your parents are on the mend. Good news that Maddie found the perfect new home as well.

Lenni, the problem with the SEN board is that its only for school/educational related stuff and the problems we are having with ds are more, well, global. Its also a lot less active than the SN Children section as well. There are quite a few people on the SN Children section with dc's that have a similar diagnosis/expected diagnosis to ds and they've been very helpful in the past, but seem not to want to engage with me at the moment. To be honest I think I'm more than a little oversensitive at the moment, as his problems seem to have intensified recently and its putting a strain on us all. Have spent much of the past 48 hrs in tears.
