Am hugely ...got to the hosp, went up to the ward and they said the consultant had been trying to get hold of us and she would be downto see me shortly.
She told us that the ENT surgeon had somehow taken the biopsy sample from healthy tissue and not the tumour and they only got htis result through this morning, so do not want to chance chemo in case it is the wrong treatment. So have cancelled the insertion of the hickman line for tomorrow and we are back home. We now have to wait for another MRI scan, she is putting us through as urgent as the wait list is 12 weeks, so we should get an appointment off the back of someone's cancellation sometime in the near future. Its at times like this I wish I had $$$$ so I could just pay for all these things to be done in one go and not have to hang around waiting.
So from feeling that things were moving and we wer eon the way to getting DS better, we are now back to waiting.
I know it is for the best, as further investigation might mean he doesn't have to have chemo, just interferon instead, which would be much better, but its so frustrating.
What makes me doubly is i rang up ealrier in the week querying the appointment they'd sent for the hickman line insertation as they said conclusive test results would take a week to come through...but they said come in anyway grrr grr grrr.

On another note, D0G, I bought two rather nice beanies for J, a red stripey one and a pale blue one with peace symbols on..v retro.

I wanted to get he brown monkey one, but they only had it in a small size and DS has a humungous head! I got this one and this one in preparation for having a baldy boy again! Style is very important when it comes to hats.

Am letting my anger subside as it is pointless being wound up by this...these things happen...its just more waiting, but hopefully worth it in the end.

Dog I have a real thing for red and white and blue and white stripes....in fact when we were on the ferry on the way home fromour hols last summer I had inadvertently dressed DD in blue and hwite stripes and DS and I were wearing red and white stripes, like one of those families that dresses the same the horror. DH refused to associate with us Must curtail my stripe purchases in future.

God I'm lost, didn't make it on last night as had a meeting for playgroup committee.

HZ-grrrrrrrrr at the biopsy mix up, you were prepared for some action and now its back to the inaction of waiting. How incredibly frustrating!

We are venturing out to the cinema for valentines day, not sure why as there is bugger all on........... Just a night of sleep would be nice.

Soooo, took DD to the docs today (I know, they are thinking of setting up a room for me!) Her manky eye has got worse despite drops and she had wax, pus and gunk poring out of her ear this afternoon, eeeuuuurrrggghhhh! So Ab's for her for the next week.

Dog- It is the 19th is it not, the monday is the 15th, Is that far enough away or not?? P.s I ate loads of Brie as most of it is ok nowadays I thought!
hope Isla had a fab day yesterday.

HKZ how frustrating. for you and J.

My dh has a Samsung Jet mobile and he can access Mumsnet on it (just checked). He only got it last week and is still getting to grips with it, but we've been on the net a few times and its been fine. Its smaller than an iphone, but comes out better than the LG Pop in the reviews. It might be worth looking into if its just for MN access when in hospital.

Dog French women eat brie all the way through their pregnancies, its not on the banned food list over there, so don't fret about it. Glad your Dad's op went ok and they will be home soon. Sorry to hear you are still under the weather. You definitely need to take better care of yourself. I know its hard with 3 littlies to take care of, but no4 needs you too. I took Sanatagon Pronatal vitamins with dd, I found I could cope with those but couldn't stomach Pregnacare.

I feel your pain regarding head lice. Ours caught them from a soft play birthday party a couple of weeks ago. Fortunately we comb at every bath time and caught them within an hour of getting home. We combed all week but didn't find anything, then used Lyclear after 7 days to nuke any emerging nymphs and they have been clear ever since. We use Inecto Coconut Hair Products on the boys as coconut oil is lethal to nits. We use the shampoo, then apply loads of conditioner and comb through with a normal nit comb followed by the nitty gritty. Finally, before they go to school we give them a spritz of either the glossing spray or leave in conditioner as if the coconut oil doesn't nuke 'em they can't get a good grip on their hair anyway. Seems to work for us. We did used to do the tea-tree, lavender and eucalyptus thing, but poor ds1's sensory issues are centred around his sense of smell so we had to change tack.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FOR YESTERDAY ISLA! Hope you had a lovely day!

Ds1's Conner/Connor (sp?) scale questionnaire for ADHD assessment arrived today. We also had a note from the Paed to say as far as he is concerned ds1 has a diagnosis of Aspergers, but said that the CAMHS assessment team will still want to carry out their own assessment before deciding on an action/support plan. We also got the letter referring him to CAMHS which oddly we have to sign and return to the Paed. We're a bit that its taken this long to send out the referral letter (we saw the Paed on 6 January) especially as things seem to be escalating with ds1 and we desperately need some support from somewhere.

Spoke to his teacher when I went to fetch ds2 from school and explained he wouldn't be back till after the holidays as he is only just starting to 'come down' after having 3 days off. She agreed that his social/communication and peer group relationship problems have got a lot worse this term and he has been very reactive and aggressive. We think its probably down to him struggling to cope with the combination of being bullied and the extra pressures that being in Juniors places on him. Its like he is just full up to the top and doesn't have any resources to call on when someone does something he perceives as threatening or disrespectful towards him. Unfortunately he was furious when I told him he wasn't going in tomorrow as he is missing non-school uniform day (he wanted to wear the tshirt I bought him from America via ebay that has an obscure nintendo character on the front) and comic day in guided reading. Cue another total meltdown, lots of crying and screaming and Mummy being the bad guy yet again.

He was also upset that he wasn't going to be able to contribute to the Haiti fundraising that the non-uniform day is for, so I had to promise to send his contribution in with ds2.

Hmm Books. When ds1 got them and was riddled the summer before last, we couldn't see anything with the naked eye. I'd never seen one before and was horrified when they came out with the lyclear and comb.

You could try looking for little grey/white eggy type casings attached near to the root or within half a cm from the root around the hairline. Check particularly behind ears, nape of neck and crown as these are the nasty little critters favourite places.

picture of the type of thing to look for here

much worse creepy crawly photo here

With the boys the first time, we gave them new bath toys to keep them occupied, slathered them in the thick coconut hair treatment conditioner and combed through first with a really wide tooth comb to get rid of the tangles and then with a normal nit comb. I wouldn't go for a nitty gritty comb the first time as they have a tendency to snag and pull and it will put them off for life. The first time we used the comb that came with the lyclear treatment, then we bought one of these bug busting kits which has really good combs in it. Now we go through their hair with the bug busters and do a last whip through with the nitty gritty to make sure we've got 'em all.

I have heard a lot of playground talk that hedrin doesn't work anymore as the lice have become resistant. Lyclear seems to work for us and is one of the more 'natural' treatments although it smells really strongly of aniseed which the boys hate.

My boys have never caught lice while we have had their coconut stuff in. They caught them at the soft-play centre because we had become blase about them never catching nits and bought a different shampoo. Daft really because the inecto stuff is dirt cheap from the cheapie chemist/beauty products-type shop next to Monsoon on Solihull highstreet (sorry can't think of the name).

Glad to hear dd is on the mend. Hope you manage to get some quality sleep.

stripeywoollenhat · 12/02/2010 09:26

argh, dog! i still remember the screaming in my house when we got them as children, i think my mother was traumatised for weeks... that was back in the days when they more or less used ddt to get them off you.... hope you can sort it swiftly. is there a way to let the school know so there can be a general purging?

I have some scary and worrying news tonight. I usually talk to my mum on the phone about this time every night but tonight she said she had visitors and we might not get to chat, then I came down and found I had an email asking me to phone when I'd got C to sleep.

So I called about 30 minutes ago.

She's had a biopsy taken today, should hear on Wednesday, but she's facing treatment for bowel cancer.

My mum is 65 and generally seems quite healthy, and even though I had children quite late I thought at least D and C would have her around for a while.

We see a lot of my dad now, but I was brought up with my mum as a single parent family until I was nearly 7, and then my stepdad left her when my brother and sister were 15 and 12.

I'm quite shocked and scared at the moment.
