bebemoohatessnot · 08/01/2010 12:34

I told dh that he needs to do and drop off the back timesheets before he comes home tonight.
He on the other hand is talking about buying skis... I must remind myself that I do love him dearly and that in some ways his complete disregard for money and desire to do fun things with me/for me can be endearing...

Now he's just said that he cannot do everything he's supposed to (not timesheet related, but tax related) because he doesn't have all his bank statements and maybe if we tidy up we'll find them. However I have told him a half a million times that the bank statements he's missing HE must have put somewhere (in his bags or loose papers he had with him) because all the stuff that we have IS TIDY!All the mail is open and put where it belongs and there Are No More Frigging Bank Statements Floating about in Our stuff. grrrr perhaps he shouldn't come home tonight even if he does finish the time sheets.

bebemoohatessnot · 08/01/2010 12:47

any ideas abt what to do abt a teething baby who has chewed through the paint to the wood and is biting off splinters of wood on her bed... it's the end so not the railing which is covered with plastic...

You leave her for a second when she's not sleeping and she gnaws on the damn thing. Not healthy I'm sure.

Feierabend · 08/01/2010 13:44

Oooh Bebe I don't know, that's not good, can you buy teething rails for the ends at all? DD1 also chewed on the ends but didn't manage to bite splinters off, just left some marks.

Auld oh no, no no no life is unfair and you're really having a rough time at the moment. I hope your DS1 recovers pronto, that no-one else gets the bug and you get some nice sleep for a change. Sit down with a cup of strong coffee and one (!) croissant

King glad Iris seems better, incredible how GPs and the NHS direct give you conflicting advice

No teeth here either and I am sure her top ones will come through first, you can see the outline of them under her gums.

Puzzle sending healthy vibes your way x

bebemoohatessnot · 08/01/2010 14:30

ideas for me about the teething and cot-bed

AuldAlliance · 08/01/2010 14:37

Sorry, bebe, I don't have any bright ideas.

DS1 has been sick twice, has been complaining of terrible headaches and has a raging temp. But when he is sick, there is only bile. Sorry for TMI, but how is this possible when he had a full meal last night? (Am wondering if the vomiting is due not to tummy bug but to mucus congestion, that used to happen a lot when he was younger).

bebemoohatessnot · 08/01/2010 14:46

Auld and DS1 If all the food has been digested or he's thrown it all up already then it'd just be bile he was bringing up. Have you tried giving him a little something to see if that get's brought up? (cruel i know but it's a way to tell)

AuldAlliance · 08/01/2010 14:49

Thanks, Bebe.
He ate last night around 6:30pm and was sick for the 1st time around 9am, but only watery bile. Maybe it had all been digested.
He drank some water and threw up again shortly after... I'm going to hang on before I conduct any scientific experiments.

Bicnod · 08/01/2010 15:03

Afternoon ladies...

Oh Auld, your boys are really in the wars aren't they Have you taken DS1 to the doc? How long has he had the temp/headache?

Bebe - I'm assuming she can pull to standing then? otherwise, if it's chewing while lying down maybe cot bumpers?

Gui - I'm off to look at flouncers corner - please continue your bosom waving, i'm too tired to stray too far from this thread at the moment so need help to keep up to date with all important mumsnet gossip

Took O swimming this morning and had to tromp across a snowy field to get there. It was good though and I'm glad we did it. It's totally worn him out - he fell asleep in the sling on the way back to the car, then again in the carseat, woke for a quick bite of lunch and he's been asleep now for an hour and a quarter! Really hope this means he'll sleep well tonight...

Fei - if the snow clears do you fancy catching up week after next? I'm meeting childminders most days next week

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 08/01/2010 15:06

Hello all

Sorry to hear of sick babies - so far we have some sniffles but nothing else, fingers crossed.

bebe have you considered that your DH may actually genuinely have a mental block about these things? My BIL has recently had some CBT to deal with the fact that he was utterly incapable of doing his tax returns (he is self employed so very important) and getting his financial affairs in order, and it has made a huge difference. He just genuinely could not do it, it was a complete mental block, and it's really helped. Worth a thought?

So my mum has gone into hospital this pm to have some keyhole surgery to relieve the jaundice. It's not going to fix whatever is causing the blockage, but it will relieve the symptoms for a bit, which would be good as she feels very sick and low at the moment. Apparently they have got the results of the MRI but were going to discuss them with her when she goes in, so I'm waiting to hear from her. Had to call round the family which wasn't much fun, my dad is very worried (they're separated but still very close) and of course I can't really tell anyone anything very conclusive until I hear from mum. Fingers crossed everyone. (Refuse to put a sad face)

Have been lurking and catching up but can't remember anything, sorry, except about Riven - I hope she hasn't gone for good, Gui, I like Riven. I've met her once, too

Oh and Auld bummer about DH's bike - is it stupidly expensive to get it back like in England?

Not sure I can face reading the Wootton Bassett thread - some of the ignorance, prejudice, pointless nationalism and racial hatred being displayed on the FB group about it already makes me feel ill.

Finally got my laptop back from menders and it's started playing up again. New laptop time, I think. Can't actually afford it though. Bums.

Guimauve · 08/01/2010 15:32

Sounds like it was DP who has got to Riven, apparently she is also the reason Peachy left

bebemoohatessnot · 08/01/2010 15:47

and how abt any ideas about what t do abt moo's bottom/creases? She gets little cuts and cracks in them which makes nappy changing/wiping a screaming occasion. It's like the skin splits when you wipe it no matter how gently!?

Guimauve · 08/01/2010 15:58

What do you use to wipe her Bebe? We still use cotton wool and water - it sounds a bit pfb but it's always seemed easier to get things nice and clean that way. I do use wipes for convenience out and about, but for routine changes @ home cotton wool it is.

DH has just phoned to say he'll be late as he's being deployed to a murder

OP posts:
WhatFreshHellIsThis · 08/01/2010 16:05

bebe have you tried Metanium nappy cream? Magic stuff. Get her nice and clean then put a thick layer of it over any cracked bits. It will keep any moisture out so you don't need to wipe it off at nappy changes.

bebemoohatessnot · 08/01/2010 17:40

sensitive wipes by j&j or pampers mostly. And I'm seriously gentle. I could try cotton, but I imagine its messy? Does it work on the poos ok? I'll give it a try though because I have some from when she was itty bitty.
I've not used Metanium will look for it next time.
I was wondering if it's dry skin would E45 work do you think? It does happen more often when she's got a few bumps/spots of nappy rash, though so not sure it's dry skin or not. It can happen any time really.
Maybe some sort of salve for sores that's antiseptic (since the poo and pee is down there?)

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 08/01/2010 18:22

Sudocrem is the other one that works well - it's recommended for minor burns and things like that, too.

Almost all baby wipes contain acetone or similar astringents to cut through poo, so they are going to irritate sore skin, even the ones marketed for sensitive skin.

AuldAlliance · 08/01/2010 18:29

Bebe, I use what the French call liniment, which is just a mixture of olive oil and chalk powder, I believe. It is really good for cleaning and moisturising, and free of any nasties.

If you use the big packs with a sort of pleat of cotton wool, rather than balls, it's easier.
I use jumbo cotton wool squares, like make up removal pads but about four times the size. Have never seen anything like them in Britain, though.

I can send you a bottle of liniment and some jumbo squares if you let me have yr address via FB.

AuldAlliance · 08/01/2010 18:35

look you can make your own! I don't know where you get eau de chaux from, though.
I seem to recall you read French, bebe, but sing out if you need help reading the link...

Get me, I am coming over all BA, writing French words, and claiming that what I do is the best possible way to do things!

Bicnod, DS1 has an appt for tomorrow morning. But he has just perked up and is sitting on the sofa in his PJ's discussing penny farthing bicycles with me.

kingbeat23 · 08/01/2010 18:44

I dont use J & J or pamoers at all coz i found they caused more nappy rash than any of the others. Tesco fragrance free is brill and not too wet until you get to the bottom, but i 2nd the motion of metanium...e45 is a good substitute until.

Gui - your dp was the reason peachy left?

WFH - fingers crossed emoticon.

AA - Hopefully (if i can really mean that) your DS has what Iris has just been through and if so, the sickness should be over by tomorrow.

BeBe - Tell DH to request the statements from the bank, and he doesnt do it, do it yourself. I agree on the mental block re: paperwork etc. and it canm be very frustrating that an ontherwise functioning adult can behave in such an exasperating way. In the words of Basil Fawlty - If you want something done properly, you have to do it yourself, havent you!!

Bicnod · 08/01/2010 19:08

WFH - keeping everything crossed for your mum.

Bebe - I second metanium, really is magic stuff. I was using cotton wool and water until recently as well but now using wipes and the best ones i've found are huggies pure wipes, they are really gentle and better than most wipes at cleaning up the poop.

Auld - glad DS1 is feeling a little better... what was he saying about penny farthings?

Gui - blimey, that's pretty hardcore

DH is currently trying to struggle through the disaster that is the London transport system - fingers crossed he'll be home by midnight...

Guimauve · 08/01/2010 19:38

He he! I favour Boots own wipes . Or a brand called Natural Baby, or something like that, in a green packet and they smell of freesias (which is why I like them) but they are silly expensive. In terms of cotton wool, I started out with pleats but they seem to have more lumps and bumps and bits of husk, so switched to balls! I find a wet cotton wool ball removes poo just as well as wipes.

Sudocrem is fabulous (love the smell of that too ), and as a result have only had to use metanium once (once is enough - one application lasts forever). Tube says to apply it thinly, 'so that you can clearly see the texture of the skin through it'

King - this DP

An old friend of mine's father collected old bikes and had several penny farthings and could ride them. She appeared on the Clothes Show when we were about 12 in a sort of Victoriana feature.

Bicnod - yes, sort of hardcore. He's a family liaison officer, so breaks the news to the relatives then stays with them and acts as their point of contact for everything. So not quite Taggart, but still

TwilightTurtle · 08/01/2010 19:41

That must be a pretty tough job Gui.

Feierabend · 08/01/2010 19:44

Evening.

Auld how is your DS now?

Bebe have posted on your bed thread. Travel cot? Re. the skin, don't know, doesn't really sound like nappy rash to me. Beware, Sudocrem dries out skin so if it's dry skin, will make it worse. Didn't BabyBolat once suggest half vaseline, half Metanium as a magic cure? You could give that a try? If you think it's dry skin, DD1 had a weird rash that just wouldn't go away from about 8-11 months old and I used Diprobase at every nappy change and that eventually cleared it up. Waitrose sell square cotton wool pads in the baby section, that's what I use, I never got on with pleated or balls, they just stick to the bum. In Germany they simply use face cloths / flannels. Sorry I am waffling

Bicnod about swimming, I'd love to take the girls but can't possibly look after DD1 and Hazel at the same time, one of them would drown. And yes definitely up for meeting.

Boss has just emailed asking if I can do a pitch next Thursday. It's a very short drive from my house but H hasn't really ever stayed with anyone else for longer than half an hour... what would you do?

Feierabend · 08/01/2010 19:46

Hello Turtle, have we met before?

Guimauve · 08/01/2010 19:53

Is that WFH with a new outfit?
