Happy New Year everyone!

2nd birthday absolutely delightful. Sabela was amazed and delighted at all her presents - she had 15 to open!

She loves her playdoh set and her baby annabel (particularly its raspberry noise which sounds like a fart). She's got loads of books and then bits and pieces. Really lovely.

My SIL has bought her another doll, so this birthday we have racked up a total of FOUR! We're going to have to space them out.

The first thing she did with the Annabel was to introduce her to her old baby. Cute!

JKS - glad he's slowly on the mend.

Sorry for no catch up - I have to go and make cakes with DH and Sabela - DH is in control, I'm supplying organisational know-how!

Gingeme - i suppose it depends what & where they offer you. i thought you were def on for moving into the new places opposite?

H happier again today, phew. His last bit of bandage has come off now too so we can see the scar, not too awful really though i imagine a person seeing for the first time might be a bit & (may try and upload a photo later)

Went for a cold walk earlier, to justify a film (Shrek2) and a fire when we got back

gingeme · 01/01/2010 19:23

Wow what a lovely day LaTrucha. xx the birthday girl.
Yes JKS but this flat is getting colder and damper by the day. Its lovely in the summer with its great big windows letting in the warm sunshine. No wonder my cactus is nearly 2 foot but in the winter its so drafty and wet . If we can move to a decent place before the new lot are built I think it would be much better tbh.
My rl friends visited this afternoon with their little baby. She is sooo sweet and makes George look massive. I was holding her and George kept trying to pull her off me saying 'come.come' to her then stroking her cheek and saying 'ah bebe'.

Happy new year ladies and birthday to Sabela!!
Had good new year , M fell asleep on neighbours sofa so we got to see new year in then dp brought her home just after midnight.
I came in at 3 am bit rough yesterday!!!

LaTrucha · 02/01/2010 20:47

Hope you all get better soon Nicky. It's totally miserable, isn't it?

Can I run something past you? DH and I have agreed a list of possible names for boys and girls. There's one on our girl list that I DO really like but I think it carries too much baggage - old lady type baggage - in Britain.

Don't want to post it in baby names because I rarely agree with people on those threads.

It's Silvia (Spanish spelling)

Totally out of the question, do you think?

madmouse · 02/01/2010 21:17

I know a lovely warm, bubbly Spanish Silvia - my age. If it feels good it is right for your child xx

Lilyloo · 02/01/2010 22:07

Silvia and Sabela sound lovely together
, do you pronounce it Sil veya or Sil Vea ? (which i imagine our Sylvia spelling)

simpson · 02/01/2010 22:42

LaT - totally not out of the question if you love it.

One of my RL best friends is called sylvia

Think the spelling with the i is much prettier though and agree with madmouse totally goes with sabella

simpson · 02/01/2010 22:45

sorry just realised I might have given impression in last post I don't like the name

Sorry, forgot to say I like it and think its really pretty

LaTrucha · 03/01/2010 14:16

Ok. Thanks. I thought it might be a bot like Rita, IFSWIM.

It's pronounced the second way - just as in English. Our criteria names is that they're pronounced - and hopefully spelt - exactly the same in English and Spanish.

Silvia isn't a dead cert. My current personal favourite is Ainoa, (Aye-noa) which is a Basque name (where FIL is from).

Plus we have boys names too. Can't wait to find out what we're having. I want a boy because I haven't got one and a girl because ideally I'd like two girls and a boy.

Did any of you have preferences as to gender and did you get what you wanted?

simpson · 03/01/2010 15:28

LaT - I was desparate to have a girl with M

Did not find out at scan as I would have been disappointed with boy

Decided to wait till birth and hope

Also if M had been a boy, its hard to be disappointed when holding actual baby iyswim.

gingeme · 03/01/2010 16:06

I hoped for a girl every time

JustKeepSparkling · 03/01/2010 16:28

I like the spelling of Silvia

(i have an aunt Sylvia who's a tad OTT on the religion front so i wouldn't be choosing it as a name in my family, but i like it)

Didn't care either way with DS1, would have preferred a girl second time round just so the 'pressure' was off in the future. Having 2 the same is easier though. (and i'm happy with either in the future too!)

AngeChica · 03/01/2010 21:55

Long drive home today but we made it without any weather probs thankfully. Had a fab day and night out in London on Saturday! The Woman in Black was good. Nice Turkish meal in Soho. Lunch in Greenwich. All good!

And I still have another day off work! bonus!

I like Silvia - had friends and pupils of that name in Bcn (also in Bulgaria ). I also like Elena for a girl. If we have another I wouldn't mind either boy or girl. We had lots of girls names but found boys much more difficult! I would have prefered DS's name without the spelling quirk, DH's idea!

nicky6 · 04/01/2010 09:41

dh - now v ill here and we have ascertained that actually w e have all had/got swine§ not §good start to 2010 - just hoping Noah not get it. me and charlie on mend so another week or so and we should be back to normal again i hope xx so excuse lack of posting

fillybuster · 04/01/2010 10:46

Happy new year everyone! So sorry I've been off the thread for a couple of weeks (esp after promising an update after visiting JKS in hospital....but she beat me to it! ) but somehow I can find the time to get on MN when I'm at work but not in the middle of family chaos !

It sounds like you had mostly lovely xmas' (bar the colds/flus) and similarly quiet new years to us...in fact dh and I had a massive arguement about school fees just before midnight so I was in floods of tears as 2010 rolled in...not the best start But...then we got 2 whole nights away in Brighton without the kids over the weekend (Fri afternoon-Sunday evening!!!) thanks to my parents, in a lush hotel, which more than made up for it ...so generally a good start to the new year albeit a little bit late

JKS - how is Henry doing today? He's such a cutie...and so brave (and so are you and your dh!). How is Tom? Was he fine about you being away for 10 days?

No idea what we're going to do for Tamara's birthday...going to make plans this evening. We had quite a big 1st birthday party for her, to make up for not being able to celebrate her arrival, but I think this one will be more of a family + good friends tea party...we had a proper 2nd b-day party for ds, but that was easier as it was summer so we had loads of kids playing in the garden. Hmm...not too sure. And no idea at all about what to get her...eek! Not sure she'll care that much - she's already got loads of toys (all of Ari's hand-me-downs, all of his existing toys and her own more girlie stuff), so we'll have to find some small stuff.

LaT - I did find out with Tamara, but that was mainly because I had convinced myself I didn't mind if it was a boy or a girl. Obviously I really wanted a girl, but I was quite happy to have a 2nd boy...will be finding out this time too, and telling the kids so that they know what to expect Happy birthday Sabela!!

Gingeme - lol @ trofast taking over the flat!

Lily - glad the hamsters were a hit after all the effort you put in to find them

fillybuster · 04/01/2010 10:46

PS Nicky - 17th is good for me, as long as I can be back in N London by 3.30 for school collection

gingeme · 04/01/2010 12:42

Afternoon ladies
Would anyone know if a child can have the swine flu jab if they have a cold? George and Edward are booked in for theirs on Friday but George has a snotty nose! Just wondering if I should re schedule it.
Anyway glad to hear you all had a good new year if a bit shakey filly. at your hotel stay.
Sounds like you had a fab time too Ange
DH and I are going to book some theatre tickets tonight. Its for our Christmeas presant. He has 2 weeks off in Feb so it will be one night then.
We had a realy fab day yesterday. We went to a woods near us, Highgate Woods, and had a looooooooong walk round. They have 2 playgrounds there. One aimed at younger children with swings and a sand pit and slide etc and another aimed at 6 and up with more roap climbimg stuff and a jeep and tractor type climbing frame. Came back all muddy and cold. The lo's had their sleep then in the evening we went to a gorgeous Italian resteraunt near us and had a wonderful meal. The boys tried calamari which they all liked and muscles which Edward didnt like. The waiters are so lovely there. They even cut the boys pizza up in small pieces for them like I would a realy lovely end to the Christmas holiday

Lilyloo · 04/01/2010 13:15

Afternoon all , well dc's back at school and dp back at work and we have tons of snow.
Had massive snowfall on Saturday. Luckily neighbours have 4x4 so they took dc to school and will pick them up.
Just wanted everything back to normal to get ready for girls birthday. Have got to get cake and party bags for L party on Sat and then have her presents to get for next week. Hoping it has all cleared by Sunday next week as was going to do little tea party for M!!!
