Loopy. I thought the same thing re her Majesty's Opposition but Apparently it's got full cross party support. Now all they need to do is the same for sure start centres.

They are doing for all ages but it is only just getting off the ground.

LOM - good luck with the new teaching. Hope it works out for you. I can see it being quite rewarding because you know that you'll be able to get through properly to the child rather than the child being distracted in a classroom, perhaps.

Loopy - LOL @ that book! I've never heard of it but it might be one to look out for. I did happen to buy Stick Man the other day too, purely because it had been raved about on this thread. It is a lovely book isn't it and Ellie loves it!

I really pity you with your DD and lack of sleep. Perhaps she is growth spurting at the moment?? You sound like you are in need of a break tho - is she going to pre-school or anything yet?

That's a shame Loopy. What about M&T groups or somewhere you can go and have a coffee and a chat while she goes off to play? Sorry if you do all this sort of stuff already.....

Hmmm, perhaps Loopy, but only you will know? I tend to think that i dont do enough with DD because sometimes she can act a bit naughty when she's bored. However after a morning of activities, she is more than happy to chill out in front of the box and/or play with her toys. If you're always on the go, perhaps it's a problem of over stimulation?? I really wouldn't like to say tho because i've never met either of you!!

Morning all!

Half term at last - hooray!

LOM - My HoD told us about the new initiative, trying to persuade me to do it - 'it's ideal for part-timers' - yes, but I'm already working 3 full days a week and 2 days of tutoring would make me full-time, duh! We've got in a former member of staff who doesn't want to retire yet, but likes the part-time hours. It's working really well for the kids that do it.

Loopy - William seems to quite enjoy the odd tantrum at the moment, but usually because he doesn't want to go in his pushchair, he would rather walk for miles - great but not so handy when I've got to do the shopping or we're walking to the common which is over a mile away and when we get there the novelty has worn off and he wants me to carry him.
My brother lives in Plymouth and is always complaining that he doesn't get to see DD and DS often enough, you could take DD round to his for a few hours break!!

RG - glad you're enjoying Stickman! DD likes to act it out when we're reading it, which is very funny, and William knows some of the words now.

I've had a very busy, odd week this week. At DD's parent-teacher interview I was told she is blossoming, above average for numeracy (she doesn't get that from me, I can tell you!) and generally doing brilliantly, which was really lovely.
Then on Wednesday at work we were told of the death of a colleague . He was diagnosed with cancer in November. Such a lovely, inspirational teacher, a real loss to the profession, school and his family. Some of the students have taken it pretty badly, but many are already planning lovely memorials to him in school and want to do something positive.

Loopy - sounds like you're in for a fun week then! I used to look forward to half term just for the rest, but now I get to spend some quality time with DD while William is at nursery, so I look forward to it for a different reason! We're having a girly day today

Now then ladies. I have apair of VGC clarkes trainers in 6 F they are this design but navy blue with orange piping. They were hand me downs from my sis but they are too narrow for DS. If any of you would like them yell. Free to good home

Ah what a shame LOM - DD has just grown out of size 6F!

We're just about to put the house the market - how exciting!! How on earth am i going to shunt toys and toddler from room to room while they take pics?!

febes · 15/02/2010 16:30

RG we are also on the brink of putting the house on the market!! We have the last bit of plastering getting done tomorrow and then its a bit of painting and finishing off bits then a massive clean up. We want to move to NZ so hopefully we can sell smoothly.

LOM I have signed up for the one to one tutoring. I have had loads of calls from schools wanting me but now have no time to do it as I have agreed to CM my friends son until June. The pay would be alot better doing tutoring but I'd need to get the DCs watched by someone. I am tutoring a boy from my old school for maths but its a private arangement. I'd love the shoes for DS if noone else wants them- I'll send you some money for postage- let me know .

Loopy TTC how exciting. I want to wait till we are back in NZ now to TTC for our next DC but I'm getting very broody...

Jetgirl Have a nice week with DD.

littleoldme · 16/02/2010 04:28

Must be something in the water. We too are getting our house ready to sell. We'll hopefully have it on the market by April. We're heading out of town for greenery, cheaper houses and better schools. Feels weird though , we've lived in this area for 12 years.

Febes. The shoes are yours. Don't worry about postage , it will be buttons. I'm glad they will be getting some use.
Where in Nz will you be moving to ?

Loopy - Keep us posted on the potty training. I can't wait til T is out of nappies.

Loopy - William is nowehere near ready for potty training and is too fascinated by the stretchiness of his willy to concentrate on actually weeing in a potty! I'd love to say goodbye to nappies!

LOM - do you find it difficult getting wide-fitting shoes for T? William has wide feet and it can be a nightmare.

febes - a 3rd child - wow! I want one (2 actually), but DH doesn't so that's that

Am of all you movers! We just can't at the moment though I would dearly love more space (I'm meant to be clearing out the dining room instead of mumsnetting). We have however, remortaged as we're coming to the end of our 5 year fixed rate and have reduced our payments by £100 a month so we can save for a bit, maybe even have a proper holiday this year (not funded by the in-laws!), which the kids deserve. We also have 3 weddings coming up this summer so presents etc will need paying for. I bought these shoes too ooh pretty

Am enjoying time with DD, we're having a chilled day today as Monday was shopping day and yesterday we went to a soft play centre with some friends, William had a lovely time surrounded by girls! Went to a friend's house for drinks last night and came home at 1am - breakfast was 2 paracetomol today

febes · 17/02/2010 13:16

Jet Nice shoes!! I'd love loads of kids but I think 3 is as much as DH will allow and I think I'll have to butter him up for that too.

LOM Mum and Dad live in Christchurch so we'll head there first. I. Can't. Wait.

Jet - He's a G at the mo so it is not too bad, although the selection can be limited. For the first few months he was in shoes he was an H and I could only find one pair!
I tend to go to clinkards as they have more european makes which, although not width fitted, seem to be wide enough.
i have it on good authority that Geox and Ecco make good shoes for wider fieet. they can be abit £££ though.

Febes - am very envious! Dh and I spent a very happy time in Christchurch. I was absolutley bowled over by the Akaroa Penisula.Gorgeous Mmmmm
