Hope you all had a merry christmas and have a wonderful new year!

Looks like you've been as busy as I have the last week or so Christmas was lovely, but my highlight was taking DD to the Royal Opera House to see the Nutcracker on Tuesday with my mum. A quiet new year for us tonight, I might open something fizzy though

littleoldme · 01/01/2010 12:50

Happy New Year everyone. Not exactly a wild night for us, I fell asleep in form of the fire at 10pm and woke up at 12.30 feeling confused.

We had fab Christmas. No one was ill or had any life traumas going on for the first year in, well years.

T got taken to a coffee a shop by his Grandaparents where he told the following the joke.
" Knock Knock"
Adoring grandparents, " Who's there ? "
" Me eating cake "
Can't really argue with that eh!

Hope you have all had a great time too. X

Happy New Year everyone!!

LOM - bless him, he sounds so cute!

jetgirl · 06/01/2010 09:40

Hi all. Enjoying the snow We have a snow day here.

RGPargy · 09/01/2010 01:28

Hi ladies! Mainly bookmarking really!! Getting REALLY bored of the bloody snow now. It's stopping us having a life! We cant get the car out of the road and i've not been able to go to work on Thurs/Fri. I didn't mind that too much but i felt bad for Ellie because she has not left the house since Tuesday, with the exception of a little walk to the shop today! Now our area is forecast to have around 20cm on Sunday too - what joy!

jetgirl · 10/01/2010 13:29

RG - I know what you mean. We made it to a birthday party yesterday, but it's actually easier to drive anywhere than walk at the mo. Mine and DD's schools were closed for 2 days, but I couldn't get any work done from home as I had both the kids with me so now I'm really behind!! William is not a fan of the cold and cried when we walked to the car yesterday. I'm not sure how he's going to take the 7:15 walk to nursery tomorrow am!

RGPargy · 10/01/2010 22:07

aww, poor William, bless him!! Being cold is horrible isn't it!

What's more annoying about the snow is that DS had to abandon his moped on Wednesday on the side of the road because of the blizzard conditions and the fact that a) he could not ride it and b) he could not push it through the deep snow. Anyway, because he couldn't be bothered to go and walk down to where he left it, it's now been stolen/impounded!! He's checked with the police and they have no record of it being impounded so it must have been stolen. His direct debit for his bike insurance has just bounced too so i'm not sure where he'll stand with the insurance company on making a claim...... GGRRR at his laid back attitude!! Ever since Wednesday he wasn't bothered about going to have a look for it and/or collecting it and in the end DP and I had a look for it yesterday, which is why we got in touch with the police because they have impounded loads of cars that were abandoned on that road, apparently.

littleoldme · 11/01/2010 01:31

Hi ladies. T has spent all evening being sick so no snoozing for me. He went to sleep about half an hour ago but I'm too worried about him choking if he's sick to go to sleep

The snow has been a pain but seems to be starting to melt a bit now. T is such a ball of energy that I've had to take him out lots or he goes a bit mental. When I couldn't get the car out I took him couple of bus trips to town to go to the train station - that was a big hit. Hopefully normality will resume soon.

Jet - Hope William copes with the walk ok - sounds like it is going to be chilly.

RG - Maybe he'll change his tune when he has to start getting the bus everywhere. Is he working at the mo ?

Right off to bed with me

jetgirl · 12/01/2010 11:01

LOM - poor T, hope he feels better soon, and you get some rest too!

RG - at your DP's moped being stolen. I would be annoyed if DH was that laid back too! My mum's car is stuck in the rec ground near her house as she slid down the hill instead of going up her drive. She has been bussing to work which is hassle.

We made it nursery yesterday - William fell asleep on the short walk (he was in the pushchair)! When we opened the front door I said' cold isn't it?' and William looked at me very solemnly and said 'very cold'. Bless

LOM - oh no, poor T!! Hope he gets better very soon! Good idea re the train station. Sounds like you earned lots of Brownie points there!

LOM i fear that DS will not learn his lesson after having to get the bus. This is the second bike he's had - the first one he sold so that he could get a better one but he just frittered the money away and ended up with nothing. Cant remember how exactly he got this second bike. I think he paid by installments to a friend or something. Trouble is, when he gets a bike he then starts to tinker with them and change parts to make it more sporty etc, which consequently mess up the "genetics" of the bike so that it doesn't work and he then has to call out this lad to fix it (at a price). It's all a bit of a bloody nightmare tbh.

He did find himself some temp work, which he did for all of 3 days before he got snowed in but now he's not working yet again. He really needs to sort himself out with a permanent job. It's doing my head in! Agency work is all very well for a quick fix for some fast money but it never ever lasts more than a week or two and then they never call him back with more work. It does make me wonder why......

Anyway, sorry for the rant.

Cant remember if i've asked this on here before but i am thinking of maybe working in a creche but i have no idea if i need any qualifications to do so, and if i do, what do i need! Any ideas anyone?

Jet - Ah, bless William. He has obviously realised there is no escape from the cold hehe

Loopy - it's horrible when you have to cancel birthday parties. My friend had to do the same in Mid-December because of the snow. I think we had about 2 weeks without snow and then it came down again even worse, ggrrr! At least you were able to get the DCs into school and they weren't at home driving you mad! Ooooo Disneyland Paris!! I'm sure you're going to have a brilliant time! I've never been to Disneyland!

Greedygirl · 15/01/2010 22:32

Hi everyone and happy new year!

Have been very lax at keeping up with you all lately but have just had a quick read and I have been snorting with laughter at T's knock knock joke and all your various escapades and cute stories.

LOM - twas a top tip re xmas dinner; if only I had read the thread! Instead I got DH to go and stand in a queue for an hour and a half to buy an organic turkey (no, it didn't taste any better), flapped about getting xmas presents right up until xmas eve, got no work done whatsoever (hurrah but now eeeek!) and had a brilliant xmas!

RG - I think you have to have a minimum level 2 childcare qualification to work in a childcare setting. This is a useful link. I sometimes teach on childcare courses although, funnily enough, not since Adam arrived!

Loopy - hope DD's birthday party has went ahead? Snow gone here now and our snowman is a little sad heap in the garden. Adam says he is up in the sky (like the Raymond Briggs one) but it sounds like he is saying "he has died"! which was a bit alarming at first. It took me 4 hours to get home one day! It usually takes me 20 minutes. Disney sounds lovely. We are going to Spain in March and so I am getting myself bikini ready - ha!

littleoldme · 16/01/2010 20:07

Thanks for your all your good wishes. T is much better now but it has been a bit of week. The dad of close friend of mine died very suddenly. I couldn't go to the funeral beacuse of the weather felt quite

We went to the Railway Museum in York today. Always a good outing in the rain. T seems to get freaked out by busy places at the mo and it took quite a while before he stopped asking to go home. Most bemusing.

RG - Are you consideringa career change ? I don't know about creches but I did look into childminding. Our local council funds the courses and there seems to be plenty of work. Might be worth getting in touch with them.

Greedy - glad you had a Christmas despite the stresses. We shuold meet up again soon. half term maybe ?

Loopy - hope the party happened eventually and was a roaring success.

Has anyone got the Dcs into a bed yet. T seems to be rapidly outgrowing his cot.

Have a happy weekend.

Hi all,

LOM - sorry to hear about your friend's dad
William has been in a bed since he was about 22 months. Despite his night waking issues, it was the best thing we could have done for him because when he was in the cot he would wake, scream, then be really hard to settle. In his bed when he wakes he knows he can find me, and just the knowledge that he can do it means he'll settle himself better. yesterday morning William was in our bed and DD was curled up at the foot of the bed asleep too!

Loopy - glad you had the party at last, sounds fun! I'm most impressed at you having 5 kids asleep - I don't think mine could cope with excitement of extra people around!

RG - I'm sure your DS will sort himself out one day. My brother spent 3 years after college trying to decide what he wanted to do (much to the frustration of my parents) before going to uni. The jammy so-and-so then got a 1st in history, which annoyed me no end, though obviously I'm very proud of him too! And why is it that boys feel the nedd to take apart things in perfectly good working order, only for them never to work again?!

Greedy - Glad you had a lovely Christmas. Adam sounds so cute. I can't bring myself to let the kids watch The Snowman as it makes me cry, and I have very vivid memories of being taken to our local library for a showing of it and sobbing all the way home I still remind my mum of the trauma she put me through!

Still waiting for DH to get out of bed as we are meant to be going swimming this morning. Thing is, if you get there after 10 the learner pool of full of teenagers playing with inflatables and it's a thoroughly miserable experience...

febes · 17/01/2010 20:13

Hi everyone!! Glad to hear you all had enjoyable Christmas and New Years.
We had a good one and have now moved DS in to As room and she is in her 'Big girls bed'. Its a proper single bed without bed rail or anything. She has been in there about a week now and has slept really well. This morning she got up and came into our room at 8am and said 'Hello mummy!' all proud of herself. She doesn't wake up if DS cries which is great as he is still having 1 or 2 feeds a night. I just go in and get him and feed him then pop him back in the cot. Its nice not having him in our room and it means I can read again . He is 8 months old today .

I have just signed up to become a childminder. Its free with our council so hope to register in the next few months.

RGPargy · 17/01/2010 22:37

Greedy - Happy New Year!! Thanx for the link - it's given me a bit more of a base to go on.

LOM - sorry to hear about your friend's dad
Yes, am considering a career change. I'm so fed up with being a legal secretary and it's soooooo dull!! I just love the innocence of children when they're really young and the way they talk to you about exciting stuff with their big eyes and jibberish language!

Sounds like you had a fab day out with the trains!

I haven't got DD in a bed yet but i am surprised that two of my friends have their 2 year olds in beds already and my other friend's DD was in a bed by this age too. I just think that DD is way to little to be let lose on the top floor of the house at night - especially as the spindles on our railings are too wide apart and so therefore determinted little children might be able to crawl through them to get to the stairs and (God forbid) hurt themselves. I'm going to keep DD in her cot bed for as long as possible i think - maybe til she's 15!!!

Loopy - The party sounds like heaven (if that can be possible?!). Quiet parties are the best i think! I think Bamberoos are nice and wide, from experience, but also Melkaj are good, as are Daisy Chains too. You are welcome to borrow my Bamberoo for a week or two to try it out if you like, to save buying/renting one? We're hardly wearing at all these days, except for when i have to hoover because she's terrified of the hoover lol. What ishoooos are you having then?

Hi Febes! Glad to see things are going well for you and for A in her big bed, bless her. Good luck with the childminding - keep us updated as to you progress!

I'm off to bed now - the sooner I go to sleep the sooner my new iphone will be delivered as it's coming tomorrow! I only hope that i like it as it's such a change from the numerous Nokias i have had over the last thousand years!

Have a good and restful night everyone!

I should point out the railings thing as when i read it back, it doesn't make sense lol. We have a banister at the top of the stairs and under the banister are spindles, iyswim. These are quite wide apart and she could fall through them if she was determined enough. Having said that, she would probably just come into our room if it was all dark everywhere else!

Loopy - let me know if you want to borrow the MT. Give me a shout on email at ravegirl at blueyonder dot co dot uk. I know what you mean about getting it right. This winter weather is probably another reason why i dont insist on wearing at the moment because i cant make up my mind a) how cold it is outside and b) whether or not DD will need a coat, etc etc. So today when i went over the road to the shops, i chucked her in the buggy with her winter coat on and her blankie over her legs. I do so miss wearing her..... Have a look on Natural Mamas in the Mei Tai section and ask for some recommendations.
