Hi thought I'd take the bull by the horns and start a new thread. Hope the weaning was covert enough! Fire away!

missp re - weaning, today was a bit of an odd one - she woke at 5am for a feed ( this is totally alien to her so think it's defo time for the food ) she went back to bed.

Gave her a wholemeal mashed rusk at 9am

She cried for bottle at 10am but only drank 2oz

12 noon I gave her the rest of the bottle ( 60z )

3pm she had a portion of sweet pot and parsnip and ate the lot

4.15pm bottle

7.15 bottle and bed.

I think yesterday I fed her too late in the day and then she didn't drink her last bottle so thats prob why she woke early this morning.

On a normal (ish) day she do

7am ish bottle
9am rusk/baby porridge
11am bottle
1.30 lunch
3pm bottle
7pm bottle......at least thats what I'm aiming for and when she's used ti that start sqeezing dinner in about 4.30/5pm ish.

Went well today even with the early start.

Best of luck and good luck with the BF!

Grace is still not well either.

Hope everyone is okay

babyblue3 · 13/11/2009 15:38

Is anyone on this thread feeling well??? Just awful! Jetli glad Hetty is feeling better and I am sure her weight will bounce back fast. Hopefully you start to feel better as well, since we ALL know that sickly Mummies means the entire household falls apart!!

Chritiana would also love to hear the story behind the name change. How did your family react??

Marco is still snuffly and am beginning to think that its NEVER gonna go away. Whenever he seems to sound better, a couple days later we are back to the green snot being suctioned out of him by the buckets full.

Swine Flu We all got our vaccines yesterday morning (except for Marco), and now we are all feeling poorly. DD2 had a fever of 40.0 degrees Celcius last night and was hallucinating. Scared the crap out of me and made me feel so guilty for giving her the shot. The worst part is, because she is only 2, she got a half dose and has to go back in 3 weeks for the second half. The rest of us have sore muscles, low grade fevers and headaches. Between a grumpy baby and a sickly toddler and a sleep-deprived mummy, this is not looking to be the start of a good day.

BF I am hoping to go the entire year. I went 10 months with DD2 and that was by far the longest. I only lasted about 6 weeks with DD1 and 3 months with DS1. So I am really proud of myself. Hopefully I will be able to keep it up. I actually tried slipping some rice in a bottle for Marco the other night, and I am not sure it did much. Will try to wait it out 2 more weeks til he hits 4 months.

Facebook Any of you ladies on Facebook?

Phoenix · 13/11/2009 17:46

Quite a few of us are on Facebook. My email is [email protected] if you wanna add me.

babyblue3 · 13/11/2009 19:22

If any one would like to add me to their Facebook, my address is [email protected]

Just let me know who you are!! LOL

QueenFee · 13/11/2009 21:16

I'm well now and feeling good actually so I will send out some sunny vibes to those of you still under the weather.

feeds Alfies feeds are all over the place I think he may be trying to drop down to 3 feeds a day but in trying to do so he is snacking and completely out of routine. Any one else finding this. My poor boobs are leaking left right and centre (no I haven't got 3 boobs just the saying )

Have just started a stright diet for DS (3) I am sick of him refusing to eat anything and surviving on just readybrek and yoghurts, so things could be a bit stressfull here for the next few weeks as I am just going to give him what I am eating or he starves Sadly he will probably choose to starve as he doesn't have a big appitite anyway.

weaning a good argument for keeping them on the breast is that it's easier to wait till 1 and wean to cows milk and a cup than effectively weaning twice (to the bottle and formula 1st) and also I found that when dc's started crawling I didn't get many cuddles except for their feeds they become so independant.

Lovely moment for me tonight Alfie has learnt to splash in the bath so I ended up completely soaked - however it was worth it to hear him giggle he thought it was so funny and this set the other 2 off laughing ahh moments like that make it all worth while!

lydiathetattooedlady · 14/11/2009 07:37

Urgh...i went to dr yesterday about my left boob, its the one causing me pain unsure if its thrush or not! well i now have a rash near my nipple and it turns out i have booby eczema!

BLUE have added you on face book!

FACEBOOK if people who're on their check my status you can see a comment about the mummy i was teeling you about, saying i should hire out Bill as a broodiness deterrant i think he's scrummy. it's just because he doesnt sleep through and her 3 month old dd goes a straight 12 hours.

weaning bill is still on porridge/ rusk morning and evening. im going to start introducing lunch and thats when im going to start adding the proper food!

queenfee bills really cut down on feeding, im making the most of the extra milk trying to express it as ive never really been able to before!

Misspaella · 14/11/2009 13:30

Blue how are you after the vaccine? I "qualify" for it apparently (I'm asthmatic) but still unsure. But guess getting swine flu itself may be worse than the side affects of jab?

Lydia very angry about your 'mommy friend'. A word that comes to mind is Bitch. Sorry but she is NO good. What a horrible thing to say, even if just in jest. Sorry to hear about your boob. I never even knew you could get eczma there. You have done so well to get this far. Bill sounds a lot like DD (now nearly 2 1/2yrs) and she was very hard to settle after a feed. She had tongue tie too (like my latest LO) but couldn't efficiently bf. I stopped after 3 1/2 months and really wish I had carried on. I cried so much when I stopped and feel it was a major factor in my PND. I am so happy you are persevering.

BF I think Tristan's mouth has gotten bigger suddenly as for most of yesterday and today it was not nearly pinching like it used to. I bet by 6months I will have cracked it and he will be hardly feeding. Shame it wasn't like this when he was feeding 16 plus times a day.

QF you probably have a point trying to bf til cows milk but it seems ages for me. I am now hitting record bf time here. My confidence is still quite ropey in that department. I may also need to do some temping come next year (maybe even next month for some extra £) so not sure how that will fit in. I guess they feed less anyway once hitting the solids.

Nighttime potty training anyone have advice for my DS1 (4 yrs 4 months) who still wears a pull up? It's driving me bananas mainly because all my gf have cracked night time training for their 4 yr olds (boys and girls!). I steer the conversation to other topics when we get asked about DS1. I still need to potty train DD (2 1/2 yrs now) so feel like may be a bit much to take on at once.

Gosh it is stormy here. Going to cuddle with Tristan. Bye.

Patchybob · 14/11/2009 15:29

Oh no..babyblue we just had our swine flu jabs and you have worried me. We have a little friend coming for a sleepover tonight so hope that dd is ok? Hope you feeling better. Will add you to facebook later when I get a chance.

babyblue3 · 14/11/2009 18:08

Patchy Hope everyone is feeling well after their jabs. My LO's had a sore arm and low grade fevers for the day and then they were fine. I was very stiff and achy, had a headache but no fever. The only one that really reacted was DD2 with the high temp. Thank goodness it was gone by morning and she was back to her horror sunny self!

Facebook Thanks everyone for adding me Your photos are lovely! I like looking at all the LO's (but not in a stalkerish way of course!! LOL)

QF I agree about weaning from BF straight to cows milk in a cup. Did that with DD2 and it was so nice to be able to skip the extra step of FF. Hopefully will make it that far once again.

Lydia Your 'friend' is a cow! What kinda comment is that??

MissP My 2 older DCs didnt lose the night time pull-ups until they were 6 and 7 years old. Sometimes its just their bladder size that makes it impossible for them to hold it for so long. And its hereditary too! I was a bed wetter til that age... not fun!

QueenFee · 14/11/2009 20:31

lydia tell your 'friend' you love the night feeds as it's the only time you get to spend alone with your darling baby!

pottytraining My dcs weren't dry in the day till 3. DD was out of nappies at night at 4.6 but was def not ready till then. The official line is taht until they are 7 it is not an issue as some children don't develop enough till then to co-ordinate everything needed to keep dry at night. Don't worry about it they all do things in their own time and I am sure they will be dry by the time they leave home! It's easy enough to hide these days with pj pants etc so even sleepovers shouldn't cause then#m any probs.

food My DS1 (not alfie )has eaten cheerios yesterday for the 1st time sat and ate his dinner with us tonight - he ate most of his baked beans and some pie - he has ever done this before so breakthrough!

From the SIDS website:

"Of course, once babies can roll over consistently ? usually around 4 to 7 months ? they may choose not to stay on their backs all night long. At this point, it's fine to let babies pick a sleep position on their own."

It also says that most incidences of SIDS occur between 2-4 months so your heading out of that now. All 3 of mine have slept on their tummies since birth.

new photo of kids on my profile if anyone is interested.
typing with Alfie holding my thumbs here actually proving quite difficult!

alibobble · 16/11/2009 10:54

only skim read posts. Sorry not been around alot. Had swine flu and now dd1 has it. Just dosing her up with calpol. Fortunately the BF seems to be protecting dd2 as she's not got it.

Will try and read up again when I get chance.

Hi all - on the mend a bit here. I've still got the shits squirts and Hetty's nappies aren't v.nice but we're both a squillion times better than we were last week.
Hope everyone else is feeling better - ali sorry about the swine flu, lydia hope the booby eczema is clearing up, mij hope your naughty boob is behaving better
BF - from being someone who was initially counting down the first 26 weeks through gritted teeth because of the pain, I now think I'll carry on for the forseeable future. It just became so effortless at about 8 weeks and I'm sooooo glad that I perservered with it. Am very looking forward to Christmas and being able to whisk DD away from everyone for a few quiet minutes feeding her on our own
Mij - do you know of any sling meets nearby here? I'm wanting to try out something new
weaning - DD licked DP's breakfast banana yesterday - she was quite impressed I think, but we'll carry on just with the boob until further notice - she sort of "tried it but didn't inhale" so I'm not counting it as weeining yet
Anyway, better go, she's crying again!

Misspaella · 16/11/2009 17:27

Jetli glad to hear the illness is subsiding. You must have felt so yuck!! Re BF HUGE pat on the back for your perseverence. You are so lucky it is effortless now. I find it really easy to latch and so on but can be uncomfortable. But a zillion times better than the newborn stage. I have a hen weekend in May (3days away) so don't think I will be bf then. But never say never.

Had a domestic this weekend with DH about a whole lot of nothing. We are just very tired. Tristan has been feeding like mad over the last couple days and reckon it's growth spurt time. And I feel some teeth ready to break. Happy days.

Hope everyone is well and not too wet from the stormy weather. I crave for a day of just sitting in my jim jams feeding. Not a remote possibility with my 2 older DC's.

C'est la vie.

LargeGlassofRed · 16/11/2009 22:13

Hi all really quick one, lovely to hear all the news,

The boys have been having awful nights its like going back to newborn days, I'm sooooooooo tired.

They are feeding constantly :-( dp has a few days off next week so going to sleep in the other room and see if that helps. I think allot of the time its for comfort.

I wouldn't mind now if it went back to every three hour

I have given them a few tastes of food but don't seem that bothered, so going to leave it a while longer.

Went to a baby show yesterday and treated myself to this
www.hotmilklingerie.co.nz/lingerie/#
DP very happy

alibobble · 17/11/2009 09:48

illness not sure there's anyone left getting any sleep on this thread! dd1 was hallucinating snails in her bed last night she was so hot! Better this AM but baby grouchy!

bf can't believe it's so easy now. Will prob just keep it up till I go back to work and then switch to cup (have 12mths off) and morning and evening bf. Can't believe i'm saying this as only managed 10wks with dd1 and it was the LONGEST 10wks of my life!

weaning was naughty and gave dd2 weatabix this morning. She wolfed it. much better than baby rice. Am I the only person who finds it goes massively lumpy if you try and make it a bit thicker or warmer? grr, stupid stuff! Feel bad but we have to avoid milk till see the dietician and all those baby cereals are full of milk except the strawberry one that made her all rashy round her mouth so sacked that off quick!

looking after me am I the only person who finds they can't get breakfast before some ridiculous hour of the day? Maybe I'm choosing shower over breakfast? by the time have fed and dressed both children there's no time for my breakfast! at least with addition of solids then dd2 not so hungry so my lack of food not affecting milk supply like it used to.

hope everyone feels better soon

OP posts:
Patchybob · 17/11/2009 11:15

alibobble I am the same, I always choose the shower over breakfast, and then end up rushing out the door for the school run with no breakfast and end up feeling really faint!

Weaning..Max loving his food, bless him he thinks its great. The favourites are pear and he also loves banana! It is making him sleep more, the last 2 nights he has gone through 2 6am and before it was back to up twice a night.

LargeGlass couldn't work your link, but I treated myself to a hot milk bra, I love it, it really looks soooo sexy compared to my faithful old m and s bras!!

Lydia loved your comment back to competitive friend, think you won that one...what a cow. I so wanted to make some comment but babyblue said it all. Well donebaby!!

Jetli hope you all ok

Babyblue3 we have come out the other end of the swine flu jab. I think I came off worse. DD had a sore arm but I not only had that, but I came out in a rash too? Weird! All ok now.

Anyway, Max crying now so must go. Hope you are all ok xxx

Misspaella · 17/11/2009 12:51

Houston we have a tooth!!!
Can't believe it, at 19 weeks!!!

Growth spurt we're in the midst of it. Feeding every 2 - 2.5 hours day and night. Very very tempted to reach for a banana to fill him up. LOL.

Largeglass how is it having twins? You seem soooo chilled.

babyblue3 · 17/11/2009 15:59

MissP WOW!! A tooth already? Then again, I don't remember when my DCs got their first tooth. At this point, I'm lucky if I remember what I had for breakfast this morning! Teeth scare me. LOL. DD2 got in a couple good chomps on my boob before I curbed that habit. Marco has already clamped down on me hard enough to bring tears to my eyes and he is still toothless.

Sickness & Sleeplessness Marco still up every 2-3 hours for feeds (same during the day). I am sooo tired! 2 more weeks to hold out before the weaning process starts! I am of all you ladies who are getting more sleep from full babies! I just don't want to start too early, because I have already gone thru colic, and don't want to visit that type of situation again. Not that any of my kids have food allergies, I just dont want to take the chance when all I have left is 2 weeks anyway.

As for being sick... we are all still coughing here. DD2 has been an absolute horror! The cough just makes her voice sound even more ear-shattering when she screams and carries on. Marco is STILL stuffy. And I have now lost my voice (not sure if that is sickness related or from all the yelling going on in my house!).

Shower VS Breakfast I am lucky in that sense. DH doesn't leave til 11:15am for work, so he gets the older 2 out the door for school, and bathes the younger 2. I get to sleep in a little longer (except for nursing the baby). I then get up and have breakfast and my shower (which sometimes includes a DC joining me). He doesn't get home from work til 8:30pm though, so lunch and dinner is where I struggle for time.

LargeGlass Nice lingerie! But thats how I got myself into trouble in the first place!!! Will need to hold off until 1) I lose weight, and 2) til DH gets the snip!! LOL

Jetli Hope you are feeling better.

Baptism went really well. Marco was a little angel! Not a peep out of him in church. And at the party afterwards, he was a dream! Not that I saw him much at that point! There were so many arms willing to hold him, I was actually able to have a civilized conversation without interruption! Yippee! Will post party pics on FB when I get them. My Dad did the photography, and is usually quite slow in handing over the disk!

lydiathetattooedlady · 17/11/2009 18:19

hi! thanks everyone for support! im now sort of trying to avoid said lady!

poorlybabies glad they're on the mend ali and jetli weaning have now introduced lunch to bill. he's still only on small (ish) amounts maybe half a jar (if i was using them!) a meal?? ive spent the afternoon making up vegetable purees. the kitchen stinks of farts! dd has is being a nightmare, when spooning the pureed cauliflower in to ice cubes trays she asked if she could lick the 'icing' spoon (obviously thought i was making cakes) it took sheer will power to restrain my self from handing spoon over! imn such a mean mummy

baby glad the baptism went well. dp still keeps going on about getting our 2 done but with him working most sundays and no buses being able to take me to church i think it will be a while yet!

sleep bill weny down at 6 woke 10.30 fed then buggered about wanting to play, so dp took him and dd who decided to get up both in to dds bed so i could sleep, big double bed to myself whilst he was crammed in to dd kiddie bed! i dont know what he did to bill but he slept til 4 then til 6.40 then til 8 which is not like him but i feel refreshed!

missp wowzers on the tooth! im dreading the toothy nipple bite, he has done the clamp down on a number of occasions which made me wince!

breakfast nope dont get any here either! which is probably why im always munching on the boubon biscuits!

xmas anyone else getting stupidly excited or is it just me? in an attempt to make dd behave we did her letter to santa and posted it today. dp is going to do a fancy reply and post it to her!

take care everyone...am going to hint to dp for dominoes for tea as its 2 4 1 yum yum!

Phoenix · 17/11/2009 21:10

Weaning I've been giving Noah fruity porridge at 5pm for a week now. When should i add another meal? I know he isn't my first but i can't remember from ds1 . I tried him with some pureed carrot at 5pm tonight and he liked it

Christmas We love it I've got the boys some christmas pj's today ready for christmas eve. Lydia we threaten to ring Santa about ds' behaviour about 20 times a day and i've also sat and wrote a letter for him but he's still been a little git

Teeth Noah has had his 2 bottom middle teeth showing for weeks now but they're not at all through yet. I wish they'd hurry up cos he's so whingy with them. He gnaws on my hand any chance he gets and it bloody hurts sometimes, even without the teeth (bf have my sympathy, i couldn't imagine the pain on your nipple ends if it hurts my fingers like it does)

Baptism Ds1 was baptised but we haven't stepped foot in the church since and that was one of the things the vicar said at his baptism and it's still the same vicar and i'm too scared to go see him about getting Noah done

Hope all the poorly people are better

I'd better go dh wants his laptop back and he's giving me dirty looks . (Mines gone off for mending so i'm sharing his for now )

QueenFee · 17/11/2009 21:55

missp a tooth already Alfie is dribbling for britain but not the slightest tiniest sign of any teeth yet!

Sorry your not getting any sleep anyone or everyone!

I also need to organise Alfies baptism however have had a glance at my diary and it looks like it's going to be after christmas now! Still as my dad will be baptising him at home at least all I have to do is arrange for them to stay the weekend and put on a buffet for friends.

Alfie is still wolfing down his 4.30 dinner but is sick if I miss any lumps in there.

breakfast breastfeeding with Alfie propped on a cushion leaving my hands free so I can eat is the only way I get mine. I also choose a shower over food. Most mornings are ok but we have had a number where we have slept in and it's all I can do to get the kids out for school at 8.45am start. DH usually leaves around 7 or may be away so I have to do it all alone so very of those of you with help (incidentally even if he is around he is so used to me doing it on my own that I still end up doing it on my own!)

I finally have a new mobile phone phew I haven't had one for 3 weeks and boy have I missed it

hot milk they are gorgeous. I ended up buying some miriam stoppard ones which are quite funky too (not sexy but sort of cool)
this is one of my favorites. I even managed to get 2 for £7.50 in debenhams sale too!

babyblue3 · 18/11/2009 01:08

So I am about to lose my patience with DS1!! He decided last night that it would be a great idea to go to bed with gum in his mouth! I just spent the last hour trying to remove it from his sheets and blanket and pillow cases!! Grrrr!!! This is the SECOND time he has done this and has now completely ruined a good set of sheets, that were not cheep since they are licensed (His bedroom is themed after the logo of his favourite hockey team and the sheets were special ordered!). Is it mean of me to have wished that the gum stuck in his long hair instead?? LOL. I told him I would have shaved his head bald and he could say good bye to the long locks he has been growing for over a year!!

Ok... vent over. At least I dont lose more of my voice venting here!! I can barely talk with all the yelling going on here... sigh...

Christmas I love LOVE LOVE it!! Have enough decorations to cover at least 6 trees! Every year, I alternate the colour scheme so that it looks different. Before DCs 3&4 came along, I used to put a mini tree in every room of the house. DH tells me its a fetish I have!! LOL. This year, the tree will be done in silver and blue to honour Marco The lights are up (but not on) on the outside of the house, and the rest of the decorations will go up next weekend. Have just started my shopping, but will try to get into it full force this weekend.

JetLi · 18/11/2009 13:39

MissP - wow on the tooth!! No signs here yet
Baptism - probably not here - we don't go to church and aren't married so I think that somewhat narrows our options anyway. Was looking at civil naming ceremonies but in no great detail. A third option is a service of thanksgiving in church (in the book of common prayer so officially exists) which we've been to in the past and was nice. Glad Marco's baptism went well babyblue hotmilk - I got mine in Whitby in the summer before DD came along. They've had some hammer now and still come out of the washer looking fabulous, so I think they're well worth the money.
Shower vs. Breakfast - I get in the bath with DD at night so that's my ablutions taken care of for the day. So I have brekkie. I make the most of it since I don't usually get anything else until teatime!
Night Out - off out tonight to see Daniel Kitson. Looking forward to it but I bloody hate the pumping beforehand - I only seem to get 2 or 3 ounces off at a time so I feel like I'm bloody chained to the thing at the moment. Maybe I ought to try and do it every couple of days and just freeze it and be done. Then I could have a night out occasionally without a weeks worth of planning!
Chewing Gum - hope it came off the bedding babyblue!
