Hi thought I'd take the bull by the horns and start a new thread. Hope the weaning was covert enough! Fire away!

Ali Hope you are feeling better and that the rest of the family does not fall sick as well.

ActivityApple LOL... I can imagine how knackered you were with the 18 month old! My first 2 DCs are 16 months apart, so I remember what that was like! I think the hardest adjustment was going from 1 DC to 2. After 2, there is not much difference. Busy is busy!! You get used to it.

sleep or should I say 'lack there of' - Marco has been waking up every 3 hours at night again. I have no idea whats bothering him. I fed him last night at about 11:30pm, and he was up crying 2 hours later. DH gave him some gripe water and he settled back to sleep. I am really starting to think he is either teething, or he needs his rice. Since he does not get bottles for the most part, I would have to feed it to him in a bowl, and I'm not sure I have the time/energy to open that can of worms yet!

venting Just need to vent a little... and you ladies are all in the same boat so you will understand DH and I are having Marco Baptised on Sunday. Since we are both Italian, the tradition is to have a big party. We rented a banquet hall because I would could not cook for 60 people. I have been running around for the last 2 weeks ordering flowers, a cake, arranging for bottles of sparkling wine with personalized labes as 'thank-you' gifts, doing seating arrangements, etc. So this morning, I wanted to put Marco in his gown to take a photo for my Thank-you cards. DH got all huffy saying he was in a hurry to get to work (still had 45 minutes before he had to leave and all he had to do was get dressed), and that I WAS HOME ALL DAY so why couldn't I do it!! I was ready to punch him!! He made it sound like I all did all day was sit my fat ass on the sofa and eat bon bons!! The absolute cheek! Like I could get the baby in his gown, get him in a good spot to take the photo, while at the same time, keeping the toddler out of my hair and out of trouble. I am doing so much for this party and the one time he has to do something I get cheek! Sigh... sorry for the long rant... needed to get that off my chest or the poor DCs would get the brunt of it today!

Anyway... its off to the park to feed the ducks. We are having a few very unseasonably warm days here (18 degrees celcius today), so I want to take full advantage!

lydiathetattooedlady · 09/11/2009 19:51

hi, ali sorry to hear ypou're so poorly. when dp had swine flu he was in bed with dd the pair of them to zonked to do anything!

goodluck to those trying or thinking about ttc. i do feel sad that bill is my last baby but then again once 1am hits and he's awake every hour feeding i think meh about having another!

teething took bill to dr last week as he was only feeding from one side and was being an absolute grot bags and he said he wasnt teething but he is contantly gnawing on his left fist, it's permanently red and slobbered! dd also has an inflatable tigerr thing that he keeps chewing the face of as he cant hold teething rings either!

blue i know how you feel. had blazing row with dp on saturday which resulted in me saying i was leaving as had enough. i feel like he thinks its so easy staying at home but it's not. im so tired, dd is being a complete nightmare, he cant even handle an afternoon with us all being together so i sort of flipped. felt good afterwards though and things are now sort of settled!

dd has renamed the family. she will, ony answer to dora, bill is now boots dp is swiper and im mummy alien has been going on for 2 days now, im hoping it will stop soon!

thrush still having trouble with one nipple in particular. dont know if it is thrush or not as when dr saw bill he said he didnt have thrush in his mouth so unlikely i have it as this has been going on for 7 weeks now and i would have most certainly passed it on to him. my nipple is red and looks really dry, also feels like bills got teeth whenver he latches on. the underneath of my boob feels really itchy too! sorry if all this is TMI!

sleep due to sheer exhaustion ive decided to try a bottle when bill wakes at 12 to see if this helps. i feel like a zombie, also finding myself snapping more and more at dd. i feel that now its starting to effect my relationship with her i need to try anything! he fed 4 times between 6.30and 1.30 and then it was every hour after that. i know babies dont sleep but i dont think im being to unreasonable for him to go at least 2 hours at night

Phoenix · 09/11/2009 20:48

Rows with DH - I had a massive rant at my dh the other day too. He's working from 7am-7pm Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. It's his shift so there isn't much he can do about it, or so i thought. He let slip that one of his workmates, with older kids, has offered to swap shifts with him and the flaming idiot has said no . I shouted lots asking him why and he said it's because it'll mess his shifts about and he won't know where he is and he'll end up owing the other bloke hours, blah blah, blah. So fecking what, he's got 2 little kids who won't hardly see their daddy over christmas and he has the chance to do something about it .

Hope all the poorly mummies and babies get well soon. Noah has got sniffly again and isn't sleeping well.

I gave Noah some fruity porridge for the first time at 5pm today he loved it. I then sat in front of him eating my chilli and he was kicking his legs and getting excited thinking he was getting some of that too

babyblue3 · 10/11/2009 05:10

Phoenix Too funny about Noah waiting for his portion of chile!! Marco has started to watch me eat my dinners as well. Broke down and bought 2 boxes of rice cereal for him. Now just have to figure out when I am gonna start giving him some!

Poorly Babies Marco seems to be getting better, but its taking so long. His nose is quite stuffy, so he wakes up often. Its almost a blessing that he does not sleep in our room, or his snoring would keep me up all night!

TTC Lydia, am with you about being sad but grateful at times! I am sure you are treasuring every smile and sound Bill makes, but when he cries at 1am, you jump for joy that it will soon be a thing of the past!! LOL. Hopefully he will start giving you more than 2 hours sleep at a time. Thats rough.

Ooohhhh!!! New smiley!! Mmmm... the creme filled kind too

JetLi · 10/11/2009 10:30

Ali - hope you're feeling better.
teething - no sign here but I was reading that a clean/new, frozen flannel is meant to be good for them to chew and gnaw on with sore gums. Wet it and then pop in the freezer.
dummy - we've resorted to a dummy for the seemingly constant whinging here. I didn't really want to and I'm still not convinced its the right thing but so far it has cut down the low-level, moaning stuff. I've tried all the usual things - tired/wet/hungry/bored/sling/cold/hot/ boob/blah blah blah so I've no idea what causes this moaning and groaning. It's not even a proper cry, just this general moany noise which gradually esclates into crying- she's clearly unhappy about something. The dummy doesn't bother me in itself, I just feel so bloody defeated as to not being able to work out the cause of the problem in the first place For example she's been at it for the last half hour so I brought her back up to our bed for some boob and I'm quite happy for her to stay latched on while she sleeps because I could do with a kip as well, but she ain't interested in the boob or just sucking - she just wants to groan.
rows - doing OK Here so far. DP still working silly hours but it's less stressful as DD's cold seems to have shifted finally. But MIL pissed me off as usual when she sent DP a magazine in the post at the weekend, with a note telling him to try and put his feet up and relax a bit!
blue - hope Marco is better soon
Phoenix - Noah will be on the chilli before long by the sounds of it

Gillyan · 10/11/2009 11:31

Hi everyone.

Hope you and hubbby are ok now baby I was in tears last wk with DP over the ironing! I said he just doesn't realise how demanding a baby that screams a lot can be etc!

weaning Summer had her firts bowl full of food yesterday, she's 20 wks today! I was holding off but she suddenly woke up at 5.30am wanting feeding yesterday and then was wanting bottled every 2 n half hrs which is unusual, she's been watching us with interest too. I did her a wholemeal rusk mashed with her formula and she proper wolfed the lot! It was lovely to see, she was really sicking it off the spoon. She's had banana porridge this morning and I'm going to go into town in a min and buy some freezer pots and do some carrot, parsnip, sweet pot etc. Very exciting, she seems so ready for it.

screaming Summer is slowly accepting the dummy more and it really stops the hissy futs immediately if she'll take it. If it''s too far gone it's just walking round with her till she stops screaming and falls asleep.

colds we've all been ill and still are, it's lingering.

Got to go she's now crying

alibobble · 10/11/2009 21:14

swineflu hi just starting to get better. Hurray

blocked duct think I had one the other day. Felt something "dislodge" and am so bruised now. Put a thread up to ask advice. Post if you can help! here

lydia it sounds like teeth to me. Docs never seem to spot it! That said the thrush will not be helping either. You can treat yourself with canistan AF cream (I know it's for athelete foot!) which my doc prescribed to me and said it was fine for bf women as the amount the baby will consume is minimal. If doc being useless then maybe pretend you have a sore foot and get ot the chemist!

Just woke to the sound of DD being sick. It's everywhere. Spent the last half hour changing all her clothes, gro-bag, sheets in the hammock, and wiping it out of her hair, neck, chin. Poor baby
DP meanwhile hasn't even so much as stirred
She's smily enough though, and volunteered for a bit more boob. Going to stay up for an hour or so and keep an eye on her.

Phoenix · 11/11/2009 01:31

JetLi hope she's ok. I've just come downstairs with Noah. He's got a cough to go with his snotty nose now

QueenFee · 11/11/2009 09:49

test

QueenFee · 11/11/2009 09:56

finally! now I will try again I have written a few lomg posts and been unable to post for some bizarre reason.
TBH i've forgotten what I was going to say anyway!
Alfie has a nasty cough and it's frustrating that there is nothing you can give then poor little lamb sounds horrible
I was poorly over the weekend and couldn't get out of bed had nasty tummy bug. I had forgotten how difficult it is to be ill with a little baby and kids they still want you - ahhh!
jetli poor little love. Hope shes better now x
rows we had loads when fin was little about really silly things as lack of sleep means you have twisted perspective and very little self control
Alfie keeps screaming in the day when he is tired. I have a problem in that he usually naps on the school runs so I don't really know how to get him to sleep otherwise! He has stopped falling asleep on the boob now too.
ali will pop over and read that thread.

JetLi · 11/11/2009 11:18

Well she stopped being sick at 5am. She's managed to keep the last two feeds down which is good. We've not bothered with the Dr since I think there's bugger all they can do and so long as she's feeding then she shouldn't be getting dehydrated I guess. She's on her third gro-bag now and I have a pile of sicky towels to wash that we were laid on in bed - poor little lass it was truly horrible to watch her retching and heaving She looked absolutely bewildered by it

Phoenix - hope Noah is OK today with his cough
Queen - hope Alfie is OK with his cough too

Off to put the washer on now. Need to wash the baby at sometime too - she has a faint whiff of vom about her person.

Ali - hope you're feeling better soon and get some answers on the other thread

christiana - have you looked at the Fisher Price jumperoo - its a baby gym combined with a bouncer. If you google it and then scroll down the results page half way you get the google videos - lots of really lovely and funny clips of babies asleep in their jumperoos. Very good resale on ebay too at the moment.

Gillyan · 11/11/2009 14:07

jetli hope you Lo is better soon.

Both mine are ill today, I've kept Grace off nursery and Summer has thrown up on me too! Grace has got a sore throat and a bad cough, poor babe.

christiana hello...I have just searched for the baby Einstein Activity Centre that I ordered from Amazon and I can't find it on tere at all, they must of sold out. I got iy for £45 instead od £90 brand new so they probably didn't last long. The Leapfrog learn & groove is on Amazon for about £50 redused form £70 - that is the one I was going get until I stubled upon the other one.

name change I have never know anyone change the name, when did you change it, was it weird calling her something else? Lovely name though!

weening it's going well she had banana porridge for breakfast and some homemade parsnip and carrot for tea.

She's had rusk this morning and it's sweet pot and carrot for tea! Loving it!

Misspaella · 11/11/2009 16:19

Jetli is Hetty better? The main thing I guess is that she is still feeding. That must have put a bit of fear in you.

Phoenix how's Noah?

Seems like everyone is under the weather.

I still feel crap - I got over mastitis (yippee for 3rd time now!) but reckon I also had a bug as now I am all "coldy". I want to be alone, under the duvet and wallow. No chance of that with 3 DC's.

Lydia have you got thrush again? Is Bill still feeding hourly. I really want to give you a HUGE pat on the back for bf. I really don't know how you do it. Are you stopping at 26 weeks or going for longer? In fact, who is plng on bf past 26 weeks ?

I am now entering the longest spell I have bf for, EVER. I have nearly done 19 weeks of ebf. WOW for me. I feel proud but it has been the biggest battle of my life. I am umming and ahhing about what to do over the next 7 weeks. I might bf morning, afternoon and night, and do the rest as bottles. I am assuming that I am established enough with my supply to do. Then again I may just stop. I have now had thrush twice and mastitis 3 times. I need a break from my boobs being my enemy.

Christiana how is the PND? Are you feeling any better with the AD's? It must be tough.

Ali hope that boob gets better.

Gillyan re weaning did you start giving solids during a particular time of day? I am not planning on weaning yet but feel it will be soon. I have looked at my old books and DS1 started solids from 20 weeks and DD from 22/23 weeks. I can't wait for Tristan to partake in some of the Xmas dinner.

baby I still can't believe you have 4. I am done. 3 is my limit. I feel too old for this. I do get broody and sad that this LO is my last but at 3am I feel like I just can't do this again.

Anyhow
Must feed my bubba and stop my older 2 from killing each other.

Misspaella · 11/11/2009 16:24

Just a thought maybe teeth will scupper my plans to bf past 6 months anyway? I can only imagine it must hurt when they get their pearly whites?

Mij · 11/11/2009 16:34

Hello everyone, didn't mean to abandon the club but no idea where the time goes.

MissP yes I'll keep Bfing for as long as LO wants to - which by DD1s example could be 3yrs plus (hmmm) - but then I'm an old hippy. The teeth only hurt if they bite (and that's not inevitable)! It's amazing how gentle a baby with teeth can be, honest.

Going to do my best to skim at least the latest thread and catch up!

Went to get my boobs checked out today as I'm getting weekly blocked ducts which seemed to be resisting all known methods to clear, but it turns out I have a patch of very dense breast tissue, and the clinician said my breast was 'misbehaving'. Almost sprayed her with the water I was drinking. At least it gave me a good laugh!

QueenFee · 11/11/2009 20:13

mij lol at your naughty breast
bf I fed the other 2 till 14/16 months so will probably do the same. As for teeth they can't bite you whilst feeding as their tongue is over their bottom teeth and if they bit it would hurt them too, however they have been known to have a little nibble when coming off at the end of a feed. Mine only did it once or twice and a stern no stopeed it. Also another usefull trick to stop them doing something whilst feeding is to pull them in towards the boob this blocks their nose so they can't breathe and automatically break the suction.

christiana Ishbel is a very pretty name

JetLi · 11/11/2009 21:21

Evening all
Still got a poorly child here. If you've noticed a dip on the national grid today, that would be my washing machine; pillows, gro-bags (x 4), Hetty's clothes, my clothes, towels, bedding, the lot. Poor little bugger. So far she hasn't been sick since about 5:30pm. I've spoken with the GP twice (v.helpful and reassuring) and we're on a program of only a very few sucks of the boob every twenty minutes or so. That's the plan for the next few hours anyway. The dummy is really helping since her appetite is fine so she's finding it very frustrating to be taken off the boob before she even gets going, but swift insertion of the dummy soons settles her down again. If I let her take as much milk as she wants, it all comes back up within a few minutes. Anyway we've been doing it like this for about an hour and the milk has all stayed down which is the main thing. I'm fine & DP is fine so heaven only knows what bug or virus she's got and I've no idea where it has come from. She has no raised temp. either. Dehydration is the main worry now. So I think we're in for a rough night tonight.

Patchybob · 12/11/2009 10:30

Jetli I hope you are ok and that Hetty is better today, poor little love (and you) xxx

Christiana please tell us the story of the name change...it is very pretty xxx

slushy06 · 12/11/2009 10:31

Misspaella I hope to bf till dd self weans as ds did but that is only because I know once dd is on solids bf will be easier than ff. Also once she is on solids if I want to space out feeds I will give her a some boiled water with her meals and she will probably go most of the day with only one or two feeds at least ds did.

Teeth never really a big problem for me ds only bit when coming off the boob and I learned pretty quickly the face that meant he was going to do it and whipped the boob out before he could which really annoyed him hence biting stopped.

Misspaella · 12/11/2009 16:35

Christian is the 'H' silent or does it have a "shh" sound? Just being nosy. What made you change your mind. I know someone who changed her little girls name at the age of 4.....hope you're feeling better btw.

Mij 3 years bf ? That is lovely. Was it every day/night? I am a bit touchy feely w/hippy tendencies too BUT I just can't imagine wearing a bra to bed for 3 yrs or being chubby (BF has NEVER allowed me to drop the last 10lbs or so of pg weight, the last 2 times when I stopped bf the weight just dropped w/out changing my diet/exercise, hormone related I reckon). Selfish I know but getting to 26 weeks would have me singing and dancing none the less.

Slushy most anecdotes re teeth and bf seem to be about pulling off so going to keep an eye on that when the time comes.

lydiathetattooedlady · 12/11/2009 19:48

hi everyone...snigger at naughty breast! mine is being naughty too what with the constant thrush in left nipple, onday 5 of yet another dose of cream, im scared my nipple is gonna swell up as it has steroids in it! (the cream, not my nipple!)

breastfeeding taking it as it comes, im noticing more friends/family are asking when im going to stop and being a little more uneasy around me when feeding. this is longer than i fed dd, only managed about 4 months without any problems so feel quite proud of myself for keeping going despite problems!

missp yep still feeding all hours of the night here, although he's had a cold past two days so not feeding as much. he went every 3 hours last night whoop whoop! (although obviously dont like him being poorly!) sturggling to get him to stay in his cot still. i keep telling myself its not forever but im so tired especially now im poorly too!

arguments dont think a day has gone past since sat when we havent argued he's just said tonight as both screaming that he didnt know how much more he could take GREAT!

namechange christiana i keep feeling like we made a hasty decision with Bills name and keep thinking of other names i like it is bugging me though as people keep calling him william or billy, of which i dislike both! its not even as if they're short versions of his name gah!

dd being total nightmare. tantrums, screaming, not eating. she's driving me potty!

jetli hope hetty feels better soon! saw your link to the jumperoo and have decided to get one for bill as his xmas present!

keep well (and sane!) everyone x

JetLi · 12/11/2009 20:12

Bleurghhh!
Hetty is fine. I started throwing up from 4am this morning. I'm not vomming anymore now, but I've got the worlds worst headache now, despite aout 4 litres of water and 2 Ibuprofen I feel like I've drunk a litre of whisky and now someone is repeatedly smacking me over the head with the empty bottle. Had to cope on my own since DP has his boss over from the US and now they're out on a night out. He's due home at about 9pm hopefully. No idea where the bug has come from, but we went to weigh-in clinic on Tuesday so my money is on that. Poor baby has lost her scrummy podgy tummy but she's feeding fine and hasn't yacked for more than 24 hours now. Still a tad light on the wee department but she's bright enough.
I wasn't expecting to be waylaid by her germs until she started school
