Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
venetianred · 17/02/2010 18:46

whenskies - I use this cup - he grabs the sides and hoists it up but sometimes I need to steady it.

Yes, F struggles with slippery things.

I am 12st 7oz or exactly 80kg. I got down to 78kg before Christmas but picked up these 2 kg. I want to get down to 65kg by July, but am struggling to get started properly. mrsmcjnr - lets both do 30 sit ups each day and make each other keep to it??

june - my father has a cousin who died as a young toddler by choking on cheese. The important thing is not to give them chunks or too big cubes. I give F thin slices as there is no problem with that and he finds it easy to eat.

Thanks bunny - I got a couple of ideas. I'm thinking about trying omelettes too.

laura not unusual - some women get it every time...as they say, implantation 'show'.

Gauchita · 17/02/2010 19:58

Hi ladies!

I've been reading to keep up but have had a few busy days so I haven't been able to sit and post properly. M is asleep now so I'll try to catch up

Laura, I'll keep everything crossed for you here. I had implantation bleeding with M, as others also mentioned.

Venetian, I also have to help M steady her cup, but at least now she's drinking from it she spent weeks just letting it sit in her mouth We're also leaving on 5th March, from Manchester... I think we have a morning flight, around 10am, but not sure. 2 months in NZ That sounds nice! I'm sure you'll enjoy that. Is your DH doing like mine, going only for a few days/weeks?

Effie, so sorry to hear you fell out with your brother. I hope you can talk things over once moods are cooler. It definitely sounds like he could have given you a ring at least first. Well done R for crawling!

Skies, how did the house hunting go? Did you see anything you liked? M struggles with slippery things as well, but I guess they all do She ends up putting her whole hand in, just in case the piece of whatever food she's having can get in

Thank you all for those finger food ideas! I really find it great that we share those things and "inspire" each other

Bunny, it's only the temporary one, but it's the first step, I guess Well done D on her food! M is going through a picky patch (really hoping it's just a phase!) so I end up trying lots of things every day Did M and D talk about it and gang up on us? M now only eats things if she feeds herself Usually I can sneak in spoonfuls while she's using her fingers to pick up things

Skillbo, (((hug))) it really sounds like you're doing an awful lot. But I can completely relate because I think I'd probably be doing the same. Do take care, though, and don't overdo it. Easier said than done, I know. Thanks for your advice re. my back. I had no idea hormones had something to do

June, open day on Sat! Ohhhh exciting that you'll be able to see it and have a feel. Those few hours will be good for you both, I'm sure. She'll have fun and you'll be able to catch up with work and exercise I give M cheese slices, like the ones Venetian mentioned, or I grate some and she grabs those thin strings.

Bigcar, congrats on the new laptop Ohhhh big screen! I shall behave myself, promise Glad to hear the meeting went well, and you'll have a second one as well

Mrsmc, how's A these days? M has been sleeping better, maybe waking once but she's been sleeping with us as we only got a carpet washer yesterday and I still haven't got round to using it Her V incident on Sat was on the big side and the carpet just smelled really bad

Hi to all Juners!

Right, the interpreting job went really well. It felt so good doing it again, I just love it M behaved quite well with DH only cried for a little while in the car. Then the driving lesson in the afternoon went quite well. Jeeeeez there're sooo many things to think about when driving!!! I know you drivers say it just clicks and comes naturally once you get the hang of it but right now that looks far away I was thinking of so many things I even mixed up left and right! My instructor is quite cool, albeit strict, so it's a good mix M stayed with my translator friend and her baby, behaved well for 1.30hs and then cried the last half hour... I guess 2hs in a row was a bit too much maybe.

What else? Oh yes, on Monday she steadied herself using the coffee table and pulled herself up on her knees for the first time. That's a point of no return there She's still full of cold and quite clingy poor little one, she doesn't feel very well.

Massive post, sorry!

M's up! Got to go, waves!!!!

venetianred · 17/02/2010 20:33

gauchita - How coincidental! Ours is 11:00 on BA from Manchester to London, and from there we connect. I shall keep an eye out for you. My dh will be the one having a breakdown. He can never cope with the stress of airports - he likes to feel in control, which isn't always easy in airports. Also, we will have a huge amount of luggage, even though we plan to travel light. My parents are paying for us to fly out because they are not well and cannot come out here and they haven't met their grandson yet. Because DD starts school in September it makes sense to go for longer. DH is coming out for a record four weeks, his longest holiday in about 15 years.

bigcar · 17/02/2010 20:41

gauchita, you've just reminded me of something! Yes, hormones do play a big part, the physio told me we won't know how much damage the spd has permanently done until after I stop bf [argh] the pain can apparently flare up when you stop feeding until it hopefully settles and even more hopefully gets better Well done on the driving lesson!

waves to all Must dash NCIS is on soon and I desperately need a cuppa first!

June2009 · 17/02/2010 22:47

ooooh gauchita grated cheese good idea.

Gawwwwwwd I did my 30 sits up, I used to be so good at this and now I barely lifted my shoulders off the floor!!!
Do you guys do the plank? I managed one minute the other day and was well impressed.
I still have the gym ball pumped up from the other day, what can I do with it? I saw my rope today but not sure I can cope with skipping. (need a good bra!!)

Last time I weighed myself I was 98k , (still 20k less than my heaviest in my pregnancy!!) I was 80k when the dr weighed me to confirm pregnancy 6 weeks in and my ideal weight (as in, what I am comfortable with) is 70k (but htat was with a LOT of working out everyday so I assume a lot of that was muscle mass) so I have a long way to go. I do enjoy exercise though.

It is lent now so a good excuse to cut out some crap.

Once thing I used to do when I went on a diet a few years ago was to have a bowl of special k instead of dinner and something healthy for lunch. that and quite bit of running, body pump and body combat really worked for me.
I started the cereal thing again, we'll see if that works this time round. (I have tried it already this year and lasted precisely two days)

right, getting late, bit tired (I blame the sit ups ;), off to bed!!

snowwombat · 18/02/2010 10:22

morning girls, lots to catch up on!
A asleep after another crappy night. He was a shocker while we were in Wales- I averaged about 3-4hrs a night sleep and just handed A over to DH when I got back and went to bed. ?teething? rotten cough? unfamiliar place? who knows what brought on the latest run of being really unsettled. Apart from the night horrors we had a wonderful time catching up with friends, doing lots of walking and eating!Stayed on the border and went into Snowdonia- my favourite!Great exercise walking with A in the rucksack

MrsMC how you doing? A giving you any long stretches or still every 40mins in the night?Thank you so much for the poem,it was beautiful, sobbed my way through reading it.
gauchita glad the job went well. When is your driving lesson?
venetianredwhat are you going to do in your 2 months in NZ?sounds brilliant
june 1min plank!well done!I can only manage 5 seconds. As to sit ups- I went to an aerobics class last night and couldn't even lift my shoulder blades off the floor when trying to a sit up serious work required. We are v similar weights and ideal weights. I have cut out crap for lent too
skies how is house hunt?
effie did you sort things with your brother? hope you feeling better
laura sounds BFP to me, had bleeding throughout both pregnancies so I am probably not a good person to ask.
bunny love the idea of the mezze plate for D.
skillbo sorry things so crazy for you. I find cooking every night takes too much time so I make a big batch of stuff on the weekends, freeze and then reheat. Stir frys and frittatas easy 15min dinners in this house.
bigcar so pleased the meeting went well and the photos of E are gorgeous!
whenskies A's poo always has evidence of what he has eaten-particularly carrots and prunes- delightful!! A consumes hommous in vast quantities by slathering on rice cakes/pitta breads/cucumber and carrot sticks. Ends up in eyes/ears/up nostrils too.

30 sit ups sounds like a plan.No chocolate during lent.Went to aerobics last night. Tried to run, unfortunately pelvic floor not in any state for doing that again soon.Skiing in a few weeks, having to go and buy men's XXL trousers as I don't fit in mine or DH's. . What a wake up to how fat I have got. Happy to have a bit of moral support on this thread for losing some kgs. Had joined the lose 2 stone thread but it had so many people on it.

We off to the hospital shortly to see the Consultant about TTC again and what I might need to do re medication etc. Hoping I won't cry too much. He scanned DS1 just before we went back to Austrlia, so at least we have met him once before.

Effielou · 18/02/2010 10:47

Hi All

Had a really lovely day yesterday with first my SIL- even her kids behaved which is very rare!!lol and then my Mum came and we looked at old pictures of my grandpa which was lovely!!

I think I will send my brother a msg on monday before the funeral- then its upto him x

guachita I still don't drive!! lol I'm planning on learning- but the whole parking and reversing scares me--hehe

laura sounds like implantation- but never had that with any- so fingers crossed xxx

Ruperts so far behind all of your babies re- finger food- hes just not interested- I do try- but with things that will disolve quickly-IYKWIM- but he will get there xx perhaps when teeth happen xx

Hope you are all well??

I'm going to have to convert to KG- rather than stones lol but lost another 1lb so down to 11st 4lb -yippee!!! ( I think its 72.3kgs)

June2009 · 18/02/2010 14:03

I've been reading about teething on the net and as usual am getting lots of contradictive stuff...
C's been waking up with really hot red cheeks the past couple of night, sometimes just one of them, sometimes both. She woke up at 5am this morning with a red cheek again, gave her calpol and she was fine, normal colour and back to sleep.
She has been unsettled all morning. I finally got her to sleep about half an hour ago, it looks like she has 38 temperature so I've given her calpol. Red cheeks again.
is this usualy teething symptoms? (her gums are bumpy).
is 38 a fever or just rasied tmeperature?

she sleeps on and off, keeps waking up.
bleh, might need to go to doctors tomorrow if it doesn't get better.

Effielou · 18/02/2010 14:23

Hi June.

38oC would be considered a fever, normal temp for kids would be between- 36-37!!! a low grade temp- is between 37-37.5, elevated temp is 37.5- 38. a fever is 38+!! Hope that helps xx calpol is great for reducing temperatures- but baby neurofen/calprofen is even better!! If she is teething then the calprofen will also reduce the pain of the gums xx

R also has very red cheeks- but dd didn't get teeth till she was 11months!! so not holding out here-just yet!!

If her temp doesn't go down- the perhaps see the dr incase she has a bug coming!! DS1 is constantly bugged up at the mo!!

Hope that helps xxxxxxx

Gauchita · 18/02/2010 14:26

Hi ladies!

Well, internet is back into my life, yipeeeee! Unfortunately, so is my period, boo hoo! I'm not a great fan as I have heavy pains and my lower back hurts like mad... it reminds me a bit of labour now that I think of it

Venetian, how about that! Ooooh I'll be on the look-out! Bless your DH getting so stressed before his flight. How exciting that he'll be able to stay for 4 weeks!

Effie, glad you had such a lovely day yesterday Well done on the scale front!

June, ohhhhh I remember my body pump days I swear the minute I move back into Leeds I'm joining my gym again and there I'll be I feel sorry for my current fitness, I used to use 25kg on legs and I'm sure now 5kg would leave me useless for a few days Well done on the planks! Great idea! I started doing squats at home, M just looks at me as if wondering what I'm doing

Snow, sorry to hear A didn't sleep really well while you were in Whales, but glad to hear you had such a good time besides that. THose power walks sound good! I'm trying to book 5 more driving hours before my trip, let's see if I can!

Bigcar, hormones, huh!? They're everywhere and sometimes not for the nice reasons HOpe you enjoyed your NCIS. I tried the other day looking at the pics but only one appeared, I'll try again now. I'll also try and post some myself.

M's complaining, so I'd better go. Back later!!!!

Waves!

MrsMcJnr · 18/02/2010 18:10

Hey ladies pouring with rain again here, this is the 5th day and apparently we are in for 10 consecutive days of rain ? yawn! Got out today though. Took DCs to the benefits office as it?s come to my attention that there are all sorts of things I could be claiming but haven?t waited 1hr45mins in the queue just to get a form the DCs were remarkably good but it was boiling hot and really boring for them I felt bad too because they missed an hour of the toddler group that we go to on a Thurs am. Hey ho hope we get some money now! In the meantime the consulate have bounced her passport application because I sent certified copy docs instead of the originals am pretty fed up with bureaucracy today so may savour the phone call to those numpties later on!

Should be cooking, cleaning or washing but needed a little indulgence on here so thought I?d try and catch up whilst DS plays with my stilettos instead of having a sleep and Aaliyah smears yoghurt everywhere but her mouth! (that was hours ago but I?ve been reading in fits and starts)

Bigcar ? welcome back I feel lost when the internet is down! What?s NCIS? What I hate about this age gap between kids is that people with the same gap keep telling me that the worst is yet to come when DS is 3 and DD is 2, is that true?? At least we get some exercise dancing to these kiddies things (guess that is the idea behind them ? fitness all round!) So glad to hear Tuesday went well at the hospital in that you got someone nice. I know you have demons to face before you can get through to the other side but I think you are doing the right thing in facing them. I like your new pics and adore the one of E in the bear suit he is so strong up on his feet like that!

Venitianred ? ouch all those teeth! Aaliyah is teething again too, I can?t believe it. The amber necklace does seem to be soothing her a bit though so I?m glad I got it. I like your philosophy wow F likes very sophisticated food soup?s an interesting idea my DS adores soup but I hadn?t thought of it for A thanks for the tip! Bet you are getting excited about your trip to NZ you are on for 30 sit ups a day starting tomorrow for me that?s a horrid story about the cheese, I must be more careful with both DCs

Effie ? sorry to hear about your bro, must be horrible especially with everything else you have going on. Glad yesterday was a nice day though how are we going to do the weight loss thing? Update our progress each week in weight and fortnightly in cms round the waist?? Mine is currently 83cms/32inches Don?t weigh every day or it will obsess you. You are doing well though My BMI is 25.3 checked it last night. I am 5ft6 and weigh 11st3/71kgs. I want to be 10st but it has been a long time since I was that

Laura - how are you doing hon? Try not to worry about the pink mucous, I have had that every pregnancy, just think of the egg cosing in! Some people do and some don?t and the line will get stronger but maybe not every day. This sounds harsh but try not to worry, what will be will be in early pregnancy and nothing you do or don?t can alter that so relax and enjoy S whilst she?s an only one

June ? I lost my baby weight from DS during my pregnancy with DD, was so sick most of the time I ended up only putting on 4 kgs! Some time to your self whilst C is at nursery fir a few hours sounds really healthy and good for you both. I wish I could do that here but it?s all or nothing. Be tough with the visitors ? crazy, they wouldn?t drop in if you worked in an office would they?! There is no way I can do the plank sounds like C is teething to me.

Skillbo ? this book helped me get ready for my wedding, in fact my skin was the best it had ever been and the specific exercises for certain areas are good too, would have given you mine but gave it to my cousin ! thanks for your wishes for me Aaliyah has been sleeping a bit better, more hours on the trot and then keen to get back into the cot rather than stay in my arms she has been eating better too. I am feeding her earlier at lunch and dinner now as suspect that on DS?s timetable she was past it when I tried to feed her. I remember DS not being that interested in his mid afternoon feed around this age, he was a good eater too and I guess they have normally eaten quite a lot by that stage so maybe there is no harm in saving themselves up for dinner. Wish A was like that! PMSL at your comments to Blue I understand how you feel about running on empty. Think it?s great to have some TV to look forward to in the evenings as it makes you relax, at the mo there is something on every week night that I watch so it makes me far happier

Bunnymother ? hello you glad to hear you are having fun TTC thanks for the words of support it is hard sometimes. Most of my RL friends here only have one child at the moment apart from one with 2 yr old twins so they don?t really understand the limitations I have but at least I get out with them and their DCs. Aaliyah is keen on finger food too ? especially cooked pasta spirals you have so fab ideas though! I know who you are on FB

Whenskiesaregrey ? A does the chasing slippery food thing too. Poor thing gets so frustrated!

Gauchita ? like you I sneak food into A?s mouth whilst she is trying to get her hand there with something else!! Glad to here that M has been sleeping better even if it is in with you. Uggh, sick smell sometimes I am glad I have marble floors! Hope she is feeling better wouldn?t it be funny if you met Venetian red at the airport!! Sorry to hear you are suffering with your AF

Snowwombat ? glad you had a great time but sorry to hear about the sleep ? it sets you up badly for the day doesn?t it hope A has settled down now you are home again. Glad you liked the poem it was cathartic writing it. Ignore me if you don?t want to say but what is your pregnancy issue? I need v early management of pregnancy for it to stand a chance.

For all those near Manchester, my friend is opening a soft play centre there I?ll let you know details when she opens it!!

lauraloo09 · 18/02/2010 20:22

hiya everyone sorry not been on lately.

Yesterday afternoon I passed something that was like a clot, sounds silly but (TMI) I fished it out the loo it looked like a wee bean, and my results from hospital were negative so it appears i've miscarried (midwife confirms miscarriage) been bleeding dark brown 'blood' since late this afternoon so i'm in a dark place just now...god i was wishing not to have PND again but i'd rather have PND to this heartache. I'm a firm beliver in my faith and fate and if my baby was meant to be my pregnancy would have continued. At least I have Sarah which I'm clinging onto just now as there's other out there who go thro this dreaming of a child and dont have one. Also at least now me and DH know how we feel about another baby so once i'm over the trauma of the miscarriage i'm sure we'll TTC.

Sorry for the sad post

snowwombat · 18/02/2010 21:52

laura I am so so sorry for the loss of your wee bean. You sound very stoic. Make sure you look after yourself and take all the time you need to grieve.Just because you have Sarah doesn't make the loss of this baby any less sad . I hope you and DH are looking after each other and you have some good RL support. Thinking of you.

Skillbo · 18/02/2010 22:19

Big cuddles Laura - so sorry to hear your news!

MrsMcJnr · 19/02/2010 08:43

Huge hugs Laura I'm so sorry to hear your news. As Snow said be very kind to yourself, don't bury your feelings and allow yourself to grieve. Whilst your baby may have been a bean it's the loss of the future you had planned for that baby that affects you the most. Talk to us whenever you feel like it and also to others going through the same thing, that helped me enormously xx

Gauchita · 19/02/2010 08:58

Laura, huge Juner hugs to you. I'm so so sorry to hear the news. As the other Juners have said, be kind to yourself and look after each other with DH. More hugs, sweetie.

June2009 · 19/02/2010 11:09

oooh laura so sad to hear your news, lots of {{hugs}}. I've been thinking about you and tyring to find something to say that would be comforting but I don't think there is anything that can make it better at this point, you need time to grieve. take care of yourself.

We had a shitty night, baby up with temperature so off to the dr so he can tell me to give her calpol .

gotta go

Effielou · 19/02/2010 11:47

oh laura so so sorry to hear news xxxx sending lots and lots of hugs xxxxxxx all my love xxxxx

MrsMcJnr · 19/02/2010 12:19

June - as Effie suggested yesterday, calpol alternated with baby nurofen can really help. NHS 24 will help with dosages, my sis swears by that to bring temps down. Poor C hope she feels better soon

whenskiesaregrey · 19/02/2010 12:30

Oh Laura, what sad news But as you said to me the other night, and at least this has confirmed to you both that you are ready for whatever comes along. I hope you give yourself time to come to terms with your loss, and it makes you stronger xxx

June- don't forget, as MrsMcJnr said, they can have both Ibrupofen and Paracetamol, and if you alternate between the two, this means there is a steady stream of medication for her to keep her temperature down, and make her feel better. Hope C is better soon xx

June2009 · 19/02/2010 12:36

thanks. she has a throat infection
bought nurofen, dr said to make sure shes drinking lots.

any other tips for this?

whenskiesaregrey · 19/02/2010 12:59

Aw poor Calypso I don't suppose there is anything else other than Calpol/ Nurofen and fluids. Only thing I can think of is that she will probably appreciate some nice cold pear/ apple purees to eat, as they would soothe a sore throat for me! Better than anything course or warm!

Effielou · 19/02/2010 13:08

Hi June ( and all the others too) When R was ill- all he'd eat was petit filou and milk- just give her what she wants- as she will know what will do her the best- as Skies said cold apple/pear/fruit puree is good too!! Its so horrid when the babies are ill- as the can't tell you what they want!! I hope she gets better really quickly xx

Effielou · 19/02/2010 13:56

yukki yukki DS1 has visitors in his hair poobags xxx

Gauchita · 19/02/2010 14:45

June, hope wee C feels better soon. I see all Juners have given you some great advice Cool soft things are a good idea to soothe her wee throat.

Effie, ouch! My mum had an excellent remedy for those... alcohol vinegar it's the worst smell on this earth, and I guess that's why they die She used to put that all around my sister's hair and mine and then put a shower cap. Those poor little bugs died asphyxiated It worked every single time, but unfortunately I could never again consider vinegar something edible and I still don't

Do we have a new thread name? We're on 901 now.

Off to London this afternoon to spend the wkend with the cousins. They're relocating to New York in March due to his job so it's a sort of farewell for now trip.

Waves!!
