Just a quickie to Strawb - I know several mums who've tried the bottle of formula at night and it works in some cases but not in others - there's no way of telling whether it will, and plenty of b/f babies sleep through. You are also left with the problem of engorged breasts in which case you have to either express milk or wait for your supply to dwindle over several days.

I know it works well for some babies but it can cause problems and mess up b/f for some mums.

Naat · 06/10/2009 12:27

Hi all!

Effie, glad to hear the phonecall with your mum was not eventful May that continue, in spite of any future full moon LOL.

Strawberry, can you see your GP directly, as Ermin and Effie suggested? or do you have to see your HV? Well done Lizzie for the arms-free night!!

Ineed, oh, so glad you had a better night!! Glad to hear Emily's feeling better today. Jabs for us today and lots of rain as well

Ermin, hi! Cluster feeding definitely helps us. The days when I don't seem to be able to do it properly she wakes more often. Is controlled crying when you let the baby cry and soothe themselves?

Doris hi! Sorry to hear you're so busy and hence exhausted 5-min night feeding is what Mila does when I haven't stock-fed her. Maybe you can give that a try? Sorry if you're already doing it and I'm just blabbing.

Daisy, sorry to hear Fraser's wind is bothering him again and therefore proving your nights a real nightmare. Hope you managed to get some rest yesterday.

Hi to all Juners!

Right, jab day today Really not looking forward to it.

A good night (considering ) last night, only up twice. Bigcar, I tried the sleeping bag but I guess as she's not used to it, she kept wriggling and moving Will persevere, though!

Waves!!!

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 06/10/2009 14:19

Hi thanks for the support

was in for a bit of a whinge last night wasn't I.

We only had one wake last night (I don't count 10.45 waking!) which makes things a whole lot better.

She doesn't wake in the evenings for cluster feeding anymore but I am trying to get into the habit of expressing some every evening to store in the freezer ready for weaning Her dairy intolerance would mean either soya based (not recommended) or potato starch (bleuurgh) based formulas to add to baby rice etc so I'm thinking ahead...

Right off to find an electrician locally to finish off our house stuff and give us a certificate

MrsMcJnr · 06/10/2009 22:39

Hey there, just checking in quickly with no time to catch up Aaliyah was awake from 2.30am ? 9am this morning so I got very little sleep. I am feeling quite run down. She is being quite whiney during the day too ? anyone else?s angel whining?

DH has lost his wedding ring playing football having read up a bit on MH issues I am now going to keep a mood diary for him for a month and then take it from there. Have ordered some St John?s Wort.

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 07/10/2009 08:37

Blimey MrsMc - you must be knackered. Hope you can rest today, though it's almost impossible with a toddler and a newborn, I know! Sorry to hear about DH's wedding ring. My DH always takes his off when he plays or runs. I'd kill him if he lost it

We only had one wake up last night and she slept the rest of the time! Yey! She's back in a grobag as she was too strong to stay swaddled long enough and would wake up when she'd released her arms. Time to get her used to no swaddling. It's taken her a couple of nights, but hopefully she's used to it now.

DH has two late nights Thursday and Friday so they'll be bloody long days for me..... yuck.

Got double glazing guy coming over this morning at 10.30 to give us a quote for finishing it off. We had the bottom of the house done a few years ago and the top ones are starting to go so we need them replacing. Not sure where we're going to get the money from to replace them, but hey ho!

Naat - Hope the jabs went okay

Doris - hope you had another good night

Right, must get dressed xx

Naat · 07/10/2009 11:08

Morning all!

Ineed, your night sounds like bliss Hope you get a low low quote for your windows

Mrsmc, oh so sorry to hear about the ring Is he sure he took it off there? The diary sounds like a good idea, it's a start, and it will give you an idea of his mood changes. (((hug)))

Doris, hope last night was like the previous one with only one wake

Strawberry, tee, don't they look cute in their sleeping bags? Mila is still getting used to hers

Hello to all Juners!!

It's our 3rd wedding anniversary today and for the first time I have NO idea of what we'll do. He took the day off today, which was a surprise he gave me when I woke up in a haste this morning at 8 thinking we had overslept

The bad news is that last night while DH was playing tennis someone broke one of the windows of the car and stole his office laptop... It was dark already so they obviously used a torch, broke the window and took that and left as nothing else was missing. They're repairing the window at noon today. Aaaanyway, live and learn, he should always leave things in the boot.

Hope you all have a nice day ladies, back later!!!

Waves!!!

bigcar · 07/10/2009 14:14

afternoon all

ineed, a big yes to cutting Brucies awful jokes, some of the dancers are easier on the eye than others Eastenders Ricky is very funny, so enthusiastic and rubbish at the same time, good on him for giving it everything! Hope dd is a little better and a big yay on a better nights sleep.

effie, you do realise Rup the poop is going to stick don't you My pil both smoke and always smoke round my dcs their attitude is, my house, I do what I like, they have a point but we don't go round for long.

daisy, hope you're getting a little more sleep

doris, wow you have been busy! Does that mean your house is all finished now?

strawberry, did you sort your hv problem out. We have 2 that work out of our surgery and although we are assigned to one of them, we can see either.

erm, great sleep, hope that's continued. E has decided to start waking in the night for a feed again

MrsMcJnr, hope you caught up on some sleep today. E can be a bit whiney, think it's probably his teeth, lots of white bits in his gums and 2 broken through!

naat, happy anniversary hope you find the time to do something nice after the car repair.

Well it's raining and a little cold here today and I've lost all enthusiasm for doing anything, have sat on my sizeable arse and done precisely nothing, well apart from drinking tea! Waves to all

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 07/10/2009 14:50

My kind of afternoon Bigcar...

daisy5 · 07/10/2009 16:12

No news here. Baby massage this morning. Getting nothing achieved today.

naat - HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

mrsmc - is she whining because she is so tired? Teething? As soon as they start to get settled, they seem to become unsettled, don't you think?

worriedamy · 07/10/2009 20:33

Hi everyone!!

Happy anniversary Naat. What crappy news about DH's laptop- nope there was nothing important on there?? Hows little Milas sleeping now?? Clustering still working?? I can't get over how similar the two of you are on your profile pic on FB- definetly her mummy's baby!!

StrawberrySam- we put Caelan in his little sleeping bag (we call it his pod) at night time when he is sat with us, but he hasn't slept in it just yet. There are some gorgeous ones in mamas and papas, almost too nice to sleep in!! There is a gingerbread one that you can personalise... oh if I had the money I could do some serious damage in that shop!!

MrsMcJnr- a diary is a great idea. Have you managed to speak to DH about it? Do you feel any better having looked into the MH issues a bit more? I know it doesn't make the situation any easier, but at least you can focus on that, and look for a solution xxx

Ermin- so glad for you that Arthur is sleeping well. Just shows that it is just down to the baby and not what type of milk they have when it comes to night sleeping!!

Effie- How are DS's now? Is DS1 feeling any better?? How are you feeling? Do you feel better for off-loading a bit at the Drs? I took Caelan swimming again this morning, and he swam threw the hoop under the water, yey!! So cute tho, his little trunks kept filling up with air, and his butt kept floating to the top! When I dunked him, his butt came to the surface before his head did, lol!!!

Daisy- hope things get better soon xx lack of sleep is a real torture x

Doris- hope you don't mind me asking, but how was it diagnosed that your LO had dairy intolerance? Caelan has started projectile puking about 30 mins - 1 hour after a feed recently, and I am maybe a bit concerned about it? I was lactose intolerant as a baby, so maybe it is hereditary (sp?!)?

Bigcar- wedding plans are coming along now!! Woop, we have the venue booked!! So that is the church and the venue! And DP is in charge of the honeymoon, and aparently I am not allowed to know where we are going until we are turning up at the airport- very exciting!! Somehow I dont think he will be able to keep it a secret too long though! Venue was booked today, woop woop! The venue that I liked had all the dates booked up from Mar-Oct next year, but one date had become available because the couple had split up!! Bad news for them, good news for us!!

Am I the only one that doesn't really like Strictly Come Dancing?? Maybe its for an older more sophisticated audience . I prefer X Factor, but still not my favourite television! I prefer BBC1 at 10.30pm... Match Of The Day- oh yes! I'm back at football training tomorrow- a bit daunting, and dont think I will be able to do much, as I am aching after bouncing Caelan in a swimming pool for half an hour!!

worriedamy · 07/10/2009 20:54

Grrr, just posted this and lost it!

Ineed its poop when DPs are working isnt it, so there are not around! I bet you will be knackered by Sat!! I hope you have two not-so-bad nights, to make it a bit easier for you!!

Watching the Pride of Britain awards... oh so so so sad that poor little baby with the meningitis... its horrible seeing that poor baby so ill, and she was only the same age as our LOs when she got ill. I could bearly look. So brave. And that boy who had Leukemia... seeing him when he was so ill, and then seeing him now, how brave is he! Amazing people.

Skillbo · 07/10/2009 21:40

Evening all

I did a mammoth post this morning and then my laptop died - grrrrr! Am hoping I can get this all out before it does it again (not the most reliable machine!)

Had a bit of a nightmare this morning waiting for a delivery from Mothercare. My MIL bought us a highchair which was really thoughtful and I don't want to sound ungrateful, but it's just another thing that we've not really had any input into. She said I was there when she looked at it but I may have been there in body but as I am planning on feeding Jazzy for 6 months, not really needed yet so wasn't there in my mind. I get the feeling I am going to get quite a lot of pressure from her to wean but I really want to go the 6 months and it makes me sad that she's got us the chair 'just in case'. She keeps mentioning how she looks like she'll be a hungry baby and I know she won't interfere too much(!) but it's a bit upsetting that she seems to be forcing the issue when, by my reckoning, I've got 10 more weeks of boob to get through. Oh well, I should be grateful as it's one less thing for us to buy and money is tight but just don't feel we have much say (and definitely my DP doesn't - the first he, and me, knew about it was her phoning to confirm our postcode for delivery!).

I totally sympathise with those of you whose babies aren't sleeping through yet. I am lucky in that Jazzy tends to only wake once (like Doris, I don't count the 11pm one) but it would be nice just once to have a night of unbroken sleep. Jazzy has only eaten for about 10 minutes tops for the last couple of months which did used to concern me but I think she has just got more efficient at emptying the boob. Perhaps your lo's are the same and although it's only 5 minutes, they're getting a good top up?

Interesting to read you comments on swaddling, Strawbs, as Jazzy has been swaddled since birth and am a bit nervous about popping her in a grobag. She has spent one night in it and slept ok but this was before teething and I think she will now disturb herself a LOT, munching on her hands! Oh well, got to try it at some point and her shawl really needs a wash!

It's definitely jabs time and I hope they went ok, Naat. Not looking forward to it as theres 3 this time, isn't there!

MrsM - hope you've managed to grab some rest somewhere along the line as your night sounded full on. And if it's any consolation, Jazzy is doing my head in with her whining (and screaming!). I thought it was teething but she even screamed at her cold teething ring today so not sure what it is - am so hopeful it will pass soon. Not helped by the weather and being stuck in waiting for a delivery!

Worried - I totally know what you mean about Mama's and Papa's... their stuff is just lovely and if I had a million - well, it's not even worth dreaming about! I have to say, I avoid things like The Pride of Britain as I tend to get all weepy and I think my hormones are still quite wild so would probably have a meltdown this time!

And Strictly is for everyone (I'm not old, honest!) - really don't like X Factor as it takes all the fun out of Christmas number one and everyone will have forgotten who won by the next Crimbo!

Talking of Strictly, I thought this weekend was quite fun. Saw Bruno giving Alesha quite a few odd looks though - still undecided on her! Am liking both Rickys now although obviously only one of them is hot to trot. Surprised myself with wanting Linda through on the dance off but Rav didn't really seem to want it that much. Bigcar an Ineed - do you read the Strictly thread on here... some juicy gossip re who's doing who!!

Anyways, heres hoping this posts this time and speak soon xx

daisy5 · 07/10/2009 22:25

It's difficult isn't it.....I put Fraser in the Bumbo this evening and plonked it on the table beside us at dinner time so he could be 'a part of things'. He just stared at the food and drooled for 15minutes. His top was saturated with drool. I may last another month (to 5 months) but it begins to feel like torture!!

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 07/10/2009 22:58

Hi again

Rubbish night again last night, so by the time I got to the HV this morning I was a mess, nothing she can do to help except get the little menace adorable angel to sleep better tonight we will be deployiong calpol at the first sign of trouble!

Worried I haven't had an offical diagnosis, dh is lactose intolerant and dd1 was too (we thought she had grown out of it till she started with constipation problems) so i removed dairy as soon as A started getting grumpy when a newborn and (most of the time) it does the trick.

Daisy A joins us for most family meals in her high chair and watch all the fork to mouth action like a tennis match

Just a note to anyone who's not invested in a highchair yet, if you can hold off (using a bouncy chair/ bumbo to wean) till they have their sitting balance couple of months? then the ikea antilop highchair is the best thing since sliced bread (I know I repeat myself) but you will HATE all the beautiful padding in your posh cchair as it is a nightmare to keep clean. We spent loads on a chico polly 4 years ago with dd1 and put it away as soon as we discovered the joy of ikea. Annabelle has only been sitting and puking in the Polly and already I'm struggling to clean it (dd2 is still in the Antilop).

Right night all probably won't be on tomorrow as have a date with the TV to watch Alex stobbs (the boy with CF) on C4 we have to show our support in any way we can!

Right pray for a dry day tomorrow so we can start on the grouting for our wall and FINISH THE BLOODY GARDEN!!

X Doris

Naat · 08/10/2009 09:25

Morning all!

Doris, thanks for that tip, my DH agrees, spending loads on a fancy chair that is a nightmare to clean and maintain is not a good idea Fingers crossed for a dry day where you are It looks quite overvast here Hope your night was not too eventful.

Skillbo, yes, the jabs went OK and, unlike the first round, these didn't seem to upset her afterwards. Sorry to hear about the highchair issue. Don't feel bad, of course you feel grateful but maybe it was not her best approach (as MANY MILs do ) Thank her for it, of course but DO NOT let her make you stop BFing JUST because SHE thinks Jazzie is "hungry" and "not having enough with only breastmilk". Be strong, we're here to support you (((hug)))

Worried, nothing except the laptop and office papers, thankfully. they're giving him a new one today so not a problem there. Mila's sleep is back to usual, waking up once or twice during the night. As long as it's not more than twice I don't feel that tired the next day and I accept that. With the weeks I've decided not to put extra pressure on her (or me) on her sleeping through the night. I guess it'll happen when it does, I'll just help her, like with cluster feeding, but won't obsess about it anymore Soooo cute what Calean is doing in the pool! I must say I'm dying to take Mila. I have to buy a swimsuit and swimming nappies Yay on the wedding venue!!! So happy for you Yes, I LOVE that pic of Mila and me, I think I'll have it printed and frame it I'll post it here so that the Juners that are not on FB can see

Daisy, hope your night was better ((hug))

Bigcar, hope you're having better weather today, not the prospect here

Hi to all the rest of the Juners!!!

Thanks for all the happy anniversary wishes, ladies

We had a nice day yesterday. Unfortunately we couldn't do anything until the guy from the window repair came but at 3pm we set off We went to Leeds, ended up in Mothercare and got Mila an anniversary present Just joking No, we got her a new teether as she's fallen back out of love with the Tommee Tippee ones so let's see if this one works.

We also got her these just for kicks and the way she can't stop moving her legs all the time, it's an orchestra here We then went for dinner and came back home at a very late 8pm No pressie yet as it's still to be delivered, according to DH I gave him an e-card I made with a pic of us all with a pressie voucher, he has to pick a date to receive it (I'll take him for some sushi, he loves it )

Right, Mila is awake now so I'd better entertain Hope you all have a nice day!

Waves!!!

Naat · 08/10/2009 09:30

I've posted the pic.

ermintrude13 · 08/10/2009 10:15

Morning all

We've been v busy with lots of clearing and tidying - putting all the 'new baby kit' together ready for the next baby in the family - bets are on as to which sister will produce it - and trying to catch up with cleaning which has not been done .

So not much time, but

Naat, Happy belated anniversary - and that's a beautiful photo of you and Mila

Doris let's hear it for washable high chairs with no padding and seams!

worried I avoided the Pride of Britain thing on telly. When I blub like a baby at '60-minute makeover' I really shouldn't see anything that's really sad and moving...
Hope Caelan's puking is just posseting and nothing more serious.

Daisy and others - Arthur loves watching us eat too - in fact I worry that he sees me eat a bit too much throughout the day . If at around 5 months he really seems keen I'm not going to deprive him of a lick of soup or bit of squished banana, but equally I'm not going to push it. I've no plans to stop b/feeding anyway and am lucky enough not to have the pressure of a return to work outside the home, so am feeling pretty relaxed about that side of things.

Skillbo hold off the weaning until you're sure that's what's good for the pair of you. MIL can wait 10 wks!

MrsMc Hope you and LOs are feeling better.

Right, toilets are calling me to clean them. Have good days all xx

worriedamy · 08/10/2009 11:51

lol ermin- 60 mnute makeover!! Lol at the fact they paint around the wardrobe and lays carpet over laminate flooring!! I'd be devastated if I came down the road and saw that skip outside the house, lol I hope Caelan being sick isn't anything too serious either- whats concerning me is that it is a good 1hr after he has fed some times, so its not like he has just over-pigged out!! I'm not sure though... for the first feed in the morning, he usually has both sides, as he has slept for a while etc etc. The other morning he only wanted one side, so I expressed off the other and got 6 ozs, so it made me wonder how much he was actually having when he is having both sides??!! Don't know if he is just having too much?!

naat- you should go for it with the swimming, its great!! My favourite bit is the shower afterwards, Caelan loves it! I hold him really tight, and he licks the water off my boob, lol!! I'm sure its really not good for him, but really, how am I meant to stop him drinking any water when he is in a pool full of it!! His eyes go all relaxed with the water running over him, he really doesnt mind water in his face!!

Skillbo- I understand what you mean about the pressure to wean. I keep getting comments about how hungry Caelan seems, and how good a feeder is, and how he looks like he will need food soon etc. Its frustrating isnt it when everyone has got an opinion for you about how to bring up your child . You just stick to what you want to do; in a year or so people wont even be thinking about how old he was when he was weaned!!

Doris- do you cut out all dairy? I might give it a try and see if it helps with the sickyness. How long does it take to have an effect?? I dont think I really have much dairy anyway, and I drink the lactofree milk- do you think that might make any difference??

Hope you all have a nice day xx

bigcar · 08/10/2009 13:48

afternoon all

worried, bit of luck there with the venue! I'm always gobsmacked with how far in advance you have to book these things, you're getting married in august, aren't you? Swimming sounds great! You could have let us down gently about strictly and just said it wasn't your thing us old folk more sophisticated viewers love it

skillbo, I can't watch the pride of britain awards either, way too weepy for me. I've had the odd look on the other thread about strictly, even Len commented this week on some of the relationships, just adds to it all for me, although I do struggle to keep track of it all, seems to increase each series!

daisy, F must have looked so grown up sat at the table

doris, with you on the highchairs there, cheap and cheerful is definitely the way to go, they can be a real bugger to clean Ikea also do an inflatable liner for the chair that helps when they are little, also available in red and blue now, had thought they only did white!

naat, lovely and sunny today, little nippy but I'm not bothered about that Your present sounds intriguing, you'll have to let us know.

erm, wasn't it one of your sisters that got married recently, may be she'll be next! I think it's lovely being able to pass things round the family like that.

E finally managed to shift himself yesterday and rolled over did it 3 times, just to show off I'm sure! Of course went up to get him from his nap to do the school run and he was asleep on his front, ho hum We're in the process of looking for high schools for dd2, went for a look round one yesterday, thankfully she liked it, woohoo! She wanted to go to the school dd1 went to, but we are out of their catchment now, so it was pretty huge that she liked it.

waves to all

bigcar · 08/10/2009 13:51

lovely photo naat

daisy5 · 08/10/2009 15:54

bigcar - absolutely, he is on the table so lording it over us all!!!

doris - spot on, definitely like tennis, plate to mouth, plate to mouth, plate to mouth, 40:15 to the desperate baby!!!

erm - I agree, the odd lick of a banana finger might be in order around 5 months, I just hope he doesn't burst into tears!!!

My big discovery last night, and long may it last, that feeding with us both lying down facing each other, produced ABSOLUTELY NO WIND. He just dozed off after each feed. I was so happy - I'm almost looking forward to going to bed tonight. The gripe water had worked for about two days, but then didn't work so well.

naat - love your photos and it inspired me to put up some of my own.....

....so now some of Fraser swimming-ish, Fraser snoozing on the shore etc on my page.

Naat · 08/10/2009 16:37

Daisy, is it just me or the new pics don't appear on your profile?
