Evening

Nightmare day here.

Remember my broken tooth? Well as it didn't hurt, the NHS emergency service wouldn't see me and then I came down with a virus, which I am just getting over two weeks later. So I didn't get round to sorting it out.

Then this morning it started to really hurt, rang the local dentist who said they have got places on their list, but are fully booked - even for emergencies - for 3 weeks! So I called the NHS emergency service again. This time they booked me an appointment for the afternoon, but its a bus ride and then a long walk for me and they only do afternoon appointments which meant I couldn't get back for the school run.

I eventually managed to get hold of my Mum, who said she could take me and get me back in time to collect the boys. Spent the next hour shaking with nerves whilst dashing around getting myself and dd ready to go out, then five minutes after Mum was due to pick me up (me sat by the door with dd in her car seat) she called to say her car wouldn't start! So I had to cancel!

They only book emergency appointments, so I have to call at 9 am tomorrow to try and get another appointment and now I have all night tonight and all day tomorrow in pain fretting about it. (I am absolutely petrified of dentists.)

Sorry for self-centred selfish post, am feeling really sorry for myself tonight.

Vodka might do the trick, but I'm too scared to eat or drink. [pathetic moose emoticon]

missjackson · 05/10/2009 21:35

Been there MM so you have my full sympathy. You just can't believe it when your own dentist has no 'emergency' appts. For me, toothache was way worse than childbirth. Dose up on painkillers and hope you get it sorted tomorrow. Hugs.

dog kittens sound funny. Bet the DCs love them. Hope Mr A is soundly asleep by now.

pat glad the ofsted thing got sorted. Can't wait to see Z again, bet he has changed lots. Can't believe he is walking and chatting already. No words here... N did say 'dada' when OH walked in this evening but he had been saying it all day!

Waves to furry - you've just missed the usual round of shopping accidents .

I heard from ray on fb that she was hoping for broadband to be connected soon so hope she's back soon. Where's hkz and eppm these days? I got confused with all the name changes a while back. And books? Or is that tea?

Wedding was great. N had so much fun as there were lots of other kids there. His cousin (aged 3) starting singing twinkle twinkle as the couple were exchanging rings - it was a lovely moment! Massive barn dance in the evening and had nice time with DH. N slept in the house and was v good for a welcome change - knackered from all the fun.

Feel a bit anti-climax today though

Had heavenly sleep with LO this morning from 10-11.30am. I am well aware that with only one I have the luxury of time to have snuggles like this, but they really are true heaven.

furrymonster · 05/10/2009 22:41

oh moose that sounds awful. vodka definitely sound like the way forward!

missj shopping accidents are fun

Have just put my first things up for sale on ebay, wish me luck!

Bed now. so very tired.

thanks for teething solidarity!

moosemama · 05/10/2009 23:10

Oh no, just found out Mum has just text to tell me her car is kaput so can't get to the emergency dentist and back tomorrow either and I have the gastro appointment on Wednesday so that's out as well. My only chance is to try and get their first appointment (appointments for emergencies start at 1.30) and then race back to get the boys on the bus, but still have noone to have dd so she will just have to sit in the corner in her pushchair and I'll have to pray she doesn't yell.

MissJ I told dh tonight I would rather go through dd's labour (ie no pain relief) again than let them poke my tooth where it hurts. Why do they always do that? I've told them it hurts like hell so why do they need to poke it? I always think of Little Shop of Horrors and keep hearing that 'Be A Dentist' song in my head, I can't help it!

We have no alcohol and nothing stronger than cocodamol in the house as well.

elkiedee · 05/10/2009 23:16

Gumps, my DS1 has got really into listening to story CDs recently - we only have a few CDs but if they work you can get them quite cheaply with sets of books from TheBookPeople (we have a CD with 5 Julia Donaldson stories including The Gruffalo and another with 5 stories about Big Bear and Little Bear), some in charity shops, you can borrow from libraries etc, and I bought a collection of 11 Harry and the Dinosaur stories for about £6.50 from Amazon recently. I've also put them on the computer and our Ipods - we have portable speakers and sometimes it gets DS away from CBeebies - I haven't read the thread you refer to but will look for it if I have time.

My blueberries came today, have to work out how to do the prewashing - more washing around the place than I can get dry right now.

missjackson · 05/10/2009 23:27

MM Could you get a taxi? You really should get it seen asap.

elkie blueberries sound nice.

VeryHungryLennipillar · 05/10/2009 23:42

Elkie - I never bother prewashing, just use them and change them regularly, maybe after an hour or hour and a half for the first few times. That way you get to use them and prewash them! Otherwise I always think it is a bit of a waste of water. If you like to wash everything before it is used then just wash them once and then use them after that - the prewashing is just like with new towels, they don't work so well until they've been washed a couple of times.

Moose - hope the tooth sorted soon. Go get some alcohol!

Lol at Pat and chopping Dog up in the night! I've met both of you and you are both fairly normal! Am certain you'll get on too. Not sure if I'd trust the pair of you with a bottle of wine though!

Gumps - go on, you know you want a snowsuit! I can't wait for it to arrive - not despatched yet, but then it was hot today so I can cope.

Am getting ridiculously excited about seeing Z, I, B, A and N on 29th. We'll be a proper crowd won't we? I don't care if we're strange!

elkiedee · 05/10/2009 23:52

I love meeting people I've talked to online - before mumsnet I did it with people from crime fiction discussion groups and from a review writing website. Quite envious of the meet up but don't think I can make it.

tinkisautumnal · 06/10/2009 09:05

have decided will get dd2 clothes from next on fri then boden clothes next mnth

furrymonster · 06/10/2009 12:56

hi all, I have guilt!!!!

received the karrimor baby carrier I ordered from ebay and although the ad said "hardly used" a couple of the straps are really badly worn and frayed so I will need to fix it before using it. So I have left negative feedback and feel awful. I have messaged the sellers to explain why, but still.

elki blueberries sound good. Prewashing? never heard of it!

moose hope the tooth gets better soon eat a bunch of cloves! no, seriously, neat clove oil on the tooth itself, it should do the trick. Use a cotton bud. Taxi is a good idea tho.

missjackson · 06/10/2009 13:30

furry that's awful, how disappointing for you - they should have told you though, that's what the whole feedback system is about.

Hi news and tink, hope you are having a nice day. N is asleep after a fun morning at mum & babies. A pro photographer was there taking pics and we can order prints if we like them, so that's xmas presents taken care of! I am trying to muster up the energy to make cauliflower cheese before the cauli goes off.

Moose hope that tooth is not worse today.

Lenni I am soooooo excited too! Can't wait to meet your cuties.

OH and I are starting ballroom dance classes tonight - am really looking forward to it. My Mum is coming up to babysit.

Am trying out some of the NCSS techniques which seem to be working well (thanks again stripey), but am knackered because actually have to drag myself out of bed and go to his room when he wakes. He made it in his cot until 4.45am last night, a record... then snuggled in with us until 7am.

moosemama · 06/10/2009 17:19

Hi all

Using dh's posh new laptop, as he has mine today. Feel a bit nervous in case I break something. (He's only used it once himself and that was to load his software onto it.)

Well, after another pallaver trying to get an appointment, Mum came with me by taxi to the dentist. They very kindly fitted me in this morning, as with the gastro appointment tomorrow I wouldn't have been seen till Thursday evening otherwise. Couldn't get a taxi on my own as I would have had to take dd in with me.

They were lovely, totally used to dealing with phobic patients and really kind (thank goodness as I was physically shaking and feeling like I might throw up any second ). It only hurt briefly once.

My tooth was much more painful this morning and I kept going hot, so had a feeling there was an infection and sure enough there was. She has packed the broken tooth with some kind of paste to deaden the pain and then put in a temporary dressing. I am also on antibiotics for the infection, or will be when dh gets home and collects my prescription. She said the dentists down my road that have accepted me as a patient are very good and used to nervous patients, but if I really can't handle the treatment they can refer me back for sedation.

Apparently there are a couple of broken teeth, but they don't need dealing with urgently and I have a cavity in the tooth adjacent to the broken/infected one. She suggested I just go for them to have a look on the first visit then perhaps have the minor job done before the attempt sorting this tooth, which will probably need xrays etc.

Dd screamed for about 5 minutes when I went into the dentist's room, as I had expected, but calmed down when Mum gave her the bottle of ebf I had left and was fine then until she saw me at the reception desk and started to scream again!

I was so scared and stressed that I all but collapsed when we got home, head pounding, nausea and upset stomach, had to crawl off to bed for an hour and it was all just a stress reaction. [pathetic moose emoticon] Fortunately dd went to sleep in her swing so was ok being left with Mum.

Dd is being a total pain in the night at the moment, waking at 11 for an extra feed then being awake and lively until 1.30/2.00 ish. She hasn't had a late feed for a couple of months now. Seriously not amusing.

Furry I don't think its bad to leave negative feedback if they didn't describe it honestly. What a pain for you though. I hate it when I buy things off ebay and they aren't as described. Happened to me with what a though was a beautiful little dress and jacket for dd, but arrived and was all faded and bobbled despite the seller saying it was brand new without tags. It had definitely been worn by more than one child over the years methinks.

Oh had heard of using clove oil but seriously cannot stand the taste of cloves.

Just you and me then Tink.

Was Gok on tonight? Been watching the Ghost Whisperer double bill. Its the season finale tonight.

VeryHungryLennipillar · 06/10/2009 22:27

Sorry folks, been out for tea (9yr anniversary!) and then had a telephone tutorial with my uni tutor. Think I might be applying for that PhD after all - perhaps. I don't want to get too research focussed and then there is the childcare issue... anyway I digress.

I am pleased the tooth is sorted Moose (of a fashion) and dentists wasn't so bad.

Hope fatties not too bad Dog - am certain they'll send you home for being too skinny. I've already bagsied the fattie spot at the meet up so you ain't having it Any news on that house?

News - you are back? yay or nay?

Where are EPPM and HKZ?? Have they abandoned ship?

DD was up until 9pm tonight and I was on the phone so DH said he'd take her up, just went up to find her not in bed so went hunting and found DD and DH fast asleep in our bed, both fully dressed most worrying DH has no clue what happened so looks like he was asleep first!

Pimms o'clock indeed.
