Dog, poor you. I think its quite common to have very painful erratic periods when you haven't had them for a long time. If it doesn't settle down within the next 24 hours I would get it checked though. I missed the boy's harvest festival as well this year, although to be honest there's is always really disappointing. We used to have tables laden with fruit and veg etc but they have a few boxes of tins donated by parents shoved at the back of the hall and a lecture talk by the school vicar. Actually, now I think about it, they both missed it too as they were off sick.

I don't do any clubs or toddler groups I'm afraid. Didn't do any with the boys either, as I find the whole prospect terrifying. Add to that that the local groups are all church run and have waiting lists and it just seems like far too much trouble. Its also a problem not driving, as a lot of the more interesting groups would be two or three bus rides for me to get there. I am hoping to make the effort and go to the local toddler group when dd is a bit bigger, I know from other Mum's that it is very cliquey, but one of the Mum's from ds2's class has a little girl who is 5 months younger than dd so they will be in the same year at school and she is quite keen for me to go with her.

Well my rainy exploits yesterday seem to have set me right back. Sorry if tmi, but am coughing up nasty stuff, my legs ache so much I can hardly walk and all my joints are painful and creaky. I also seem to have all the head cold symptoms back. Unfortunately, dd also seems to be coming down with it as well. She has a snotty nose and is really clingy and crying, but not in a velcro sort of a way, much more in a poorly baby way. She just wants to cling to my front like a baby monkey and sleep with her head on my chest. Have given her some calpol and she is sleeping in the swing at the moment.

Oh poo! I've woken her up with my coughing, have to go.

moosemama · 21/10/2009 10:40

Nope, she's gone back to sleep, thank heavens.

Dog, you don't need manly back pats, you need some paracetamol and ibuprofen, a hot water bottle, a duvet, some magazines and a sofa - oh and plenty of ((hugs)).

treedelivery · 21/10/2009 10:49

No clubs here I'm far to antisocial. There is a class I should be at in 10 mins, but H is asleep, I am back inmy dressing gown, its raining and dark, and there is no way on the planet I am dragging us through the horrors of car seats and parking. AM a lazy slattern! Although I have put dishwasher on

Hope you feel better soon Moosy - not good! Glad she dozed back off. If I had anyidea where you lived I'd send you some Lucy Burney Mummy museli to build up your immunity. Am making some today hopefully. You need some supplememnts dude!!! Am about to place mega order for pre/pro biotics for the girls. Harriet must be feeling the total drop off in breastmilk. Also thinking of some herbal rememdies for dd1, to help her with her new life as a school girl.

I defrosted some bm for dd2 yesterday, it was totally off!!

I got this for dd1. I hung it in the hall, to help her see the week. I have put her gym leotard in the right day, and tonight she can put her show and tell stuff in FRiday slot. I think it's lovely. I recommend!

Big hugs to you all, poorly mammas. x

Its possible Dog, that's why if it doesn't ease off I think you should maybe call the GP just in case. If you think about it though, if you haven't had a period for a long time the endometrium just keeps building up and up, preparing itself for pregnancy, hence it being heavier and more painful when it eventually reaches critical mass so-to-speak and you have another period. I was thinking your body could still be settling down, as didn't you say you've hardly had a period since you started having babies, or was that someone else? Could be either really, but definitely keep an eye on it.

Tree, do you have the recipe for that muesli. Dh enjoys making up his own muesli recipes and the stuff we normally buy seems to have disappeared of the shelves. Dh is making me remember my floradix, but I'm hopeless at remembering to eat, let alone take my supplements. I manage to get the dc's to have all theirs, but don't seem to be able to do the same for myself.

Wall pocket thing is a great idea Tree. I have just ordered some coloured A4 plastic pockets for ds1. I am hoping to get the school on board in getting him used to a different colour for spelling, literacy and maths and then a clear one for general letters and communications between school and mum or mum and school. The idea being that he will be able to spot the coloured wallets in his bag as soon as he opens it and it will jog his mind about what he needs to hand in or bring home that day. I've also bought bright speech bubble shaped post-its in the hope of being able to catch his eye with reminders. Of course he'll probably just end up losing the folders and stickies, but I have to try something, because he is really struggling at the moment. We are going to try and arrange a meeting with the SENCO to see what the school can do to support him as when I tried to speak to his teacher (well supply teacher as his teacher has now been off sick since the end of week 2 ) she just nodded and smiled whilst looking at me as if I had two heads or something.

Ooo those halloween smileys make the spacing go all weird because of their hats.

missjackson · 21/10/2009 12:18

Lenni highly doubt anyone is interested enough in us to trek out to the forest of dean... if we see anyone suspicious, we'll soon lose 'em in the soft play area . Am super-looking forward to it.

tree why weren't you my mummy? my mum is a total star but organisation was never her strong point, and I was always the child without her gym kit/ cooking stuff/ cardboard tubes/ raincoat.

dog sorry to hear about mega period, sounds nasty. Did periods take a while to settle down after first two? If you've never had anything like this before, might be worth going to the doctor to get checked out.

Enjoyed another 2 hour nap with N this morning - knowing I am going back to work in a month's time has made me really appreciate this time I have now with him. It's going to be sooooo tough! but exciting too .

treedelivery · 21/10/2009 12:25

Mummy Muesli

3 cups Oats
1 cup wheatgerm
1/4 cup seasame seeds
1/4 linseeds
1/4 sunflower seeds
4 table spoon ground almonds
1 table sp barley malt, dissolved in a little hot water to make it easier to work with
1 table spoon blackstrap molases, dissolved as abouve
1/4 extra-vrigin olive oil, walnut oil or other
1 tea spoon of vanilla extract
1 teas spoon of cinnamon
2 cups of raisins or dried fruit of choice
1/2 dessicated coconut [though not for me thank you very much]

I also chuck in any nut we have lying about, hazelnuts being a big winner imo.

Mix oats, wheatgerm, seeds and almonds in big bowl,
Combine barley, molasses, oil, vanilla, cinanamon in seperate bowl.

Then add wet to the dry, really working it to get the oats coated.

Spread on a tray and bake for 20 mins, but stir after 10.

Add raisins, coconut [maybe choc chips, dehydrated strawberry, soft toffee pieces.....] and cool.

Stick in jar and give freely as a gift to those you love, or eat with oat milk and Rachels greek style honey yogurt. Yum!

Hungry now.

spookywoollenhat · 21/10/2009 12:26

sounds to me like you all need a nice cup of tea...

vile day here and knee acting up again, i had thought it was getting better. bah. walked to gp's yesterday to check on a bit of ear-tugging that c has been doing, have a prescription for antibiotics i am hoping not to fill - maybe it was the walk which set it off again. poor c is a right grump today, but eating and no temperature so i guess nothing too terrible is going on.

so i don't go to any groups of any kind, but have located one that i am going to try next week, as i think c would really enjoy interacting with other small ones. i am deeply antisocial, but she seems like she likes a crowd... already feeling slightly anxious about it, not helped by the fact that it's held at a church. i think the church isn't used for services anymore, so hoping it's not a church group.

missj - it isn't me that runs. shudder.

moose, fab news about ds' eyes

spookywoollenhat · 21/10/2009 12:30

dog, i would second moose's advice about the gp if it doesn't ease off by tomorrow. you aren't a wimp, sometimes painkillers (and tea) are the only way

Poor dog. If you don't feel better soon just make the apointment. You can always cancel if it all goes away all of a sudden.

You should try this muesli. Its different to bought stuff. I hate that stuff, all white milk powder.

Moose - I also add flaxseed and hemp seed [that hulled stuff in packets, or seeds] becasue I am obsessed

spookywoollenhat · 21/10/2009 12:44

dog, i'll ask dp for advice for you on the running if you like.

my first period since c arrived was very light, but i guess it works differently for everyone. probably the next one will be horrendous to make up for it.

treedelivery · 21/10/2009 12:48

MissJ - I'll still forget, be late and be grumpy

Dog link to beginners running guide. Go for it - although wait until you feel better. Must be a bit frightening but I guess there is no way to know if it is a miscarriage or a heavy period. Hope you are ok.
at MissJ sleep. I used to love doing that with ds1.... He now has refused to listen to story tape in bed and so is watching Cars downstairs. S asleep after kicking off for half an hour. They were at playgroup this am and I think completely overtired. We only do one thing a week now thats organised but many many playdates. Used to do Gymborie with ds1 which was ace and going for a free trial with S on Friday when ds1 at nursery.
Books how is the pox?
Argh S awake after only half an hour all day.....

treedelivery · 21/10/2009 13:47

Lots of people are texture focused rather than taste. My dd1 for a start!!

Harriet now eating the muesli in question with sheep yogurt [yay for Sainsbury, its a light in a very drab tunnel in my town]. Very proud of her, all those gut healing oils. Yay. Also half a kiwi. Turned head at scrambled egg though.

Even d1 seems to be having a food phase, she got a sticker for eating her brown bread nad butter sarnie and 3 dried apricots at school. No idea whats going on, but I like it!!

I started running in oz, I had an urge. I got up to 40 to an hour mins, from not being abke to speed walk. The I stopped and I never ever want to do it again/ Like Forrest Gump!

I have always had zero cardiac fittness. I found music helped. i made myself run till the end of the song. Do or die or collapse, but finish the song. Then another, and another, it's good. Yoiu build up in 3.5 min increments.

Never ever will I run again

moosemama · 21/10/2009 13:53

Tree that muesli sounds fantastic. It will probably have to wait until the weekend now though, as we don't have a lot of healthy stuff in at the moment. We used to aways have things like linseed, flax, hemp, omega oil in but alas I am so disorganised these days it all ran out yonks ago.

treedelivery · 21/10/2009 13:58

Apparently this town asked for a tumbletots but was told it was not the right target market

Is that code for we are scruff bag stoats?

Buy online Moose, they will be here tomorrow. Am sending a jar to pregnant friend. Hope it doesn't go mouldy in the postak strike!

Just as I suspected Tree, they are stuck-up snobs that I wouldn't want to spend time with anyway. So nah!

Er Tink, you selling or buying?

treedelivery · 21/10/2009 14:42

DD2 in hr new wooly longies are on the profile! I love them soooooo much. They have flowers a bit like cherry blossoms on the leg. I love cherry blossoms.

moosemama · 21/10/2009 16:13

Tree, she looks gorgeous, she always does in every photo I see, she is so photogenic.

I really love your house too. No fair! I want a house with beautiful things in, instead of a scruffy, shoebox sized one full of mismatched second-hand, inherited furniture and stuff we've had since before we were married.

Gosh I sound like such a pathetic suck-up.

tinkbig · 21/10/2009 19:12

selling this time

VerySpookyLennipillar · 21/10/2009 19:38

So is anyone getting any sleep yet? DS has been terrible this week, and shock horror didn't even have an afternoon nap today. I think he is ready to drop his morning nap and just have a post-lunch long one now but he falls asleep in the car on the way to things in the morning and I can't face the thought of staying in every day to get him in a better routine.

Real problem is bedtime. He used to be a dream to get to bed. Breastfeed would send him dopey, I'd put him down awake and he'd drift off. Now he goes stiff as a board as soon as I go to lie him down, stands up in the cot and commences wailing. He'll lie down only if I hold his hand, and really he wants me to pick him up so he can fall asleep in my arms. It's doing me in as I refuse to hold him, and although don't mind holding his hand it stops him sleeping as he just plays with my fingers/wedding ring. So I'm ending up spending up to an hour trying to gradually withdraw from the room and everytime I get to the door he stands up and screams. I can't do CC, please someone tell me it is just a phase.

Hope you are feeling a bit better this evening Dog. Am of those who can run - my arthritic joints can't take it.
