afternoon all

quiet here today!

MrsMcJnr, my youngest two definitely set each other off, no fun is it! Hope your ds has had a better day.

llynnnn, I think not going for an hours walk in the pouring rain is sensible There are times when you've been stuck in and need to get out whatever the weather to clear the cobwebs but this obviously wasn't one of those times! Hope baby massage goes well

naat, hope Milas baptism goes well, how lovely to have your dad there Great news on the dissertation front, it was very windy here yesterday as well.

I'm hoping for a quiet weekend after the last two weekends doing the theme parks, no more half price tickets Have a date with the iron anyway, soooo much fun!

waves to all

Naat · 04/09/2009 18:24

Hello lovely Juners!!!

It's really quiet here

bigcar, ouch ironing is not fun, hope you don't have too much

It was a crazy day here, sooooooo windy, then rain, then sun, then rain, then sun and I had to go to Bradford but the good news is: I'm a free woman!!! Dissertation is in!!! I'm soooo happy, you have no idea the relief I feel Let's hope all goes well now

Another trip to York tomorrow It's a 'must' place whenever we have visitors We're also going to Leeds so here's hoping we have good weather

(((waves)))

bigcar · 04/09/2009 18:50

naat, well done you, that is brilliant Fingers crossed here for you, how long till you get the result? We've had that funny weather, just with really black skies, no rain yet, looks like it could chuck it down any minute though! I've only ever been to the national rail museum in York (dh used to work on the railway!) it was a good day out, the kids loved it. I have PILES of ironing [sigh] I think if I came into a lot of money the first thing I would do would be to pay for someone else to do the backlog of ironing I have, how sad is that eh?

Naat · 04/09/2009 20:02

Oh, bigcar, sorry to hear that! I like your idea of having someone to do it for you Hope you dodge the rain over there, here it's all blue again

I think I get the results back in Nov-Dec =S

ermintrude13 · 04/09/2009 20:03

Gosh, it has been quiet hasn't it? I've had quite a busy day - at least after lunch: food shopping, fetching DS from school, taking 4 kids swimming, feeding them all, getting the boys off to Beavers... but I drove the Zafira with 5 kids in it and rather liked driving it so that's a relief

Naat well done on finishing your dissertation, that's really good. Hope this weekend goes beautifully for you.

And Bigcar here's to a quiet weekend for you, and a peaceful one with a well behaved DS for MrsMc

We've just been 'upgraded' as wedding guests tomorrow, from the evening do to the posher afternoon event - much better for travelling and proper food - hurrah!

chocciedooby · 04/09/2009 20:10

Hi everyone.
Will catch up later if thats ok.
Just want to ask for bit of advice re:bottle feeding.
Elina has been doing fine but when weighed by health nurse on Thursday she had only gained 4 ozs in last 3 weeks
I don't know what is going on but I had noticed that she was not taking very much (only 3 or 4 ozs a feed).
So I changed to No.3 teats yesterday and all was great. 5ozs no problems. Then this afternoon she got colic again (not had this for weeks now) and this evening she choke a few times and milk was going everywhere.I know she was tired but I didn't like the choking too much.

I have sterilised the no.2s again and am thinking of going back. Does anyone else think this is right?

Tee2072 · 04/09/2009 20:16

choccie I am still using the no 1s. I have never changed and he eats fine.

Sometimes A chokes on it. I think sometimes they just swallow wrong!

OP posts:
chocciedooby · 04/09/2009 21:05

Thats interesting Tee.

Can I ask how much your little man takes in a day?

I am going back to 2's as Elina simply could not keep up with the flow from the 3's and this caused her to choke several times.

She is only taking about 18ozs a day but still sleeps through the night and when she wakes at 7am she doesn't cry for a feed.

chocciedooby · 04/09/2009 21:14

I think I am stressing a bit too much about things at the moment. Who was it that said the 3rd month is the hardest?? You are so right.

I am finding the school runs draining and stressful and after hectic days of running around entertaining my 3 los I keep having the neighbours land their kids on me.

I have been fine with this up to a point but now its getting as bit much.

AIBU to tell my neighbours no more play dates after 5pm and no more dropping in unless arranged beforehand?

My very next door neighbour is dropping his kids into everyone in our row every day. He never seems to mind his children himself and its beginning to p**s me off.It is all 1 way traffic too. I can't speak for anyone else but I am feeling suffocated. I can't even drive into my own driveway without feeling that he is ready to pounce on me with his kids.

Brief background - guy next door has recently become a house husband and has spent the entire summer fobbing his kids onto everyone else. I don't mind playdates but he seems to arrive at the worse times, like when I bathing Elina or doing bedtime routine etc.

I probably should start a thread on this and I'm sorry for pestering you all but I simply felt it easier to have rant on here.

oh, on another note I got my period on Tuesday and it was very painful. maybe I am just hormonal....

Tee2072 · 04/09/2009 21:16

choccie it varies by day, but between about 20 - 30 oz a day. And he wakes up at least once during the night still. Well, not every night!

He is also a very big boy at over a stone already and 2 feet long!

OP posts:
chocciedooby · 04/09/2009 21:23

Wow Tee thats amazing! Neither of my boys ever took that much! He has a fantastic appetite.

Elina is not far off the 20ozs.

She only weighs 11lbs 5ozs.

Isn't it funny how different los can be.

ermintrude13 · 04/09/2009 22:12

Choccie I can't help with formula advice, but will wade in on the neighbour who leaves his kids at yours so often . Absolutely no way without prior arrangement, and even then I think you've enough to deal with to mean that a polite but firm 'It's really not a convenient time for me to have them then' is completely reasonable. It might be hard at first but you do need to fix your boundaries. I have a friend with 3 DC who are all a bit older now but even when they were tiny she'd be put upon by all and sundry, looking after their kids, ferrying other people's children around and getting v little help in return. She has now learnt how to say no nicely - and sometimes not so nicely when the lesson took a while to hit home - and feels much happier and more in control of things. She only does reciprocal arrangements now, where she knows that if she has someone's kids one day it will be their turn to have hers the next time.

You are not being at all unreasonable (or hormonal) to give a cut-off time, and to insist that people don't just drop in. The very idea of it is to me, you've just had a new baby FFS. Protect your family life and your sanity!

Ooh, that's made me soooo mad on your behalf. No wonder you're stressed. Hope you can start putting your foot down and that people will realise how they're taking you for granted xx

llynnnn · 04/09/2009 23:04

choccie - you are definitely not being unreasonable telling your neighbours its not convenient. you have enough on your plate with your 3 dc without adding more too! its very unreasonable of them to expect you to look after their children, you have a tiny baby and 2 others! people are soooo thoughtless sometimes!!! i dont think its the hormones this time, you are more than within your right to be mad with this!!

on the formula feeding, Isobel has about 25oz a day. she has size 2 teats and i have been considering upping them to the next size as she is sooooo slow taking her bottles! She keeps falling asleep, not sure if the sucking is tiring her out!
maybe if you just change to the 3 teats on the bottles she tends to be the hungriest for. then when she is more tired and unable to keep up use the 2's?

hope you are ok and feel better tomorrow x

bigcar - hope you get your peaceful weekend

naat - well done on your disertation, enjoy your weekend (i love York so very ) and hope Mila's baptism goes really well on Sunday.

hope everyone else has great weekends too and the weather is better (i got soaked 3 times today!!)

llynnnn · 04/09/2009 23:05

sorry erm - meant to say enjoy the wedding tomorrow, hope the sun shines!

June2009 · 05/09/2009 01:18

Hey! Having a great time in France not really had time to rest though!

Re: formula feeding, Calypso used to take 5 ounces (150ml) 5 times a day, sometimes 6 times a day.
We now make 6 ounces bottles, 5 times a day. She doesn't always eat all of it.
Typically though she'll have 4 ounces (120ml) first thing in the morning, then 6 ounces/180ml throughout the day, then 4 ounces/120ml or 5oz/150ml on her last bottle.
She's only on the 25th percentile but has always been on it.
She seems to have had a growth spurt also at 10/11 weeks, feeding 6oz/180 pretty much everytime.
Baby massage makes her hungry straight after so that could be a way to feed your lo more if needed.

she now sleeps through the night (last bottle usually 11pm and wake up 7am) (or midnight and 8am here :D) and we're hoping it'll last ;) Fingers crossed.

chocciedooby · 05/09/2009 09:06

Good Morning.

June - glad to hear you ar ehaving a great holiday. Lucky you
Sounds like Calypso is doing great.
I have booked myself into a baby massage course that starts on the 16th so hope it helps Elina with her colic, reflux etc

Lyynnn - I moved back to No.2 teats last night and she is much happier.I did consider having 3's for hungrier times but will see how she goes.
She's had 4 and half ozs this morning and there was no crying
Hope you have a drier day today

Ermin - Thanks for your comments on my neighbour nightmare. The last few times he has tried to ditch kids on me I have had to put my leg in the door way to stop the kids running in and have told him the time did not suit. I have also told him that I am finding things hectic right now with baby and the boys but not once does he offer to have my kids over in his for a play to give me a break!

You are so right, I need to be strong and firm and say no. tbh I think I am going to have to be quite blunt with him as he doesn't seem to be getting it at all. He called my mobile yesterday at 6pm.I ignored it and the next thing his little girl was at the door. I said ok for half an hour and she hung off me the whole time. I also caught her taking DS1's party bag choccies and sneakily stuffing them into her pocket. I told her not to take other peoples things, that it was not a nice thing to do.
Anyway, half an hour passed and the father never came to collect her.He is always very late.I got her home but didn't get a thank you or anything. Why don't people have manners???

Sorry for going on about this.

I am off out this lunchtime with my best friend for the afternoon. Her brother got married during the night in Australia and she is quite down as she couldn't make the wedding. I think a few glasses of champers needed

chocciedooby · 05/09/2009 09:08

Hows the ironing going Bigcar?

Hi naat. Hi to everyone else. never can keep up.

bigcar · 05/09/2009 11:27

morning all

naat, that's quite a long time to wait isn't it! Lovely and sunny here at the moment Hope it stays nice for tomorrow for you!

erm, enjoy your upgrade at the wedding, hope the sun lasts for the happy couple!

choccie, sorry, no help here on the ff front, pleased to hear Elina was happier this morning I don't think you're being unreasonable at all with your neighbour, in fact I think you've been very patient. I think I would be very tempted to say that the kids have reading and homework now they are back at school so turning up unannounced/late or a at very short notice isn't convenient, especially when you are trying to fit everything around feeding and bathing a new baby, he's obviously not getting the hint so maybe you need to spell it out. Enjoy your lunch out

llynnnn, hope the rain holds off for today

Well, no ironing here yet dh had to go into work for a few hours this morning and has only just got in so it will have to wait a little, oh dear that's such a shame

have a lovely weekend everyone, waves to all

LittleSarah · 05/09/2009 12:14

Morning all!

Tis my wedding anniversary today! And of course dh had to work. ;-) Ach well, he should be back by 3pm. He got me my first five driving lessons (eek) and tickets for the ballet next month! Yay. He loved his book too, phew! We're going out for dinner later. Last night we went to my mum's for a few celebratory drinks with some friends and family. BIL and SIL gave us some fresh veg from their patch - fab - and we got some lovely wine too.

MIL was typically tactless. After saying to me that it looked like dh and I had a 'skin disease' in some slightly blurred just gave birth photos (this was a couple of weeks back) she said to my mum my grandpa looked drunk in one of our wedding pictures. May have been funny if he had been or looked drunk but he was just smiling soberly! Luckily my family takes such comments quite well but it amazes me she doesn't seem to realise how off some of her comments are. Luckily we do get on, but she is a leetle mad!

Naat - Well done on handing in your dissertation, bet you've done fab! I totally understand your relief!

Choccie - DEFINITELY tell your neighbour he needs to arrange babysitting in advance. Good lord, even my parents get notice before I drop children on them! You know, hey mum, any chance you could look after the bairns next week? Oh thanks so much! And I can't believe he hasn't even offered to return the favour! GRRRR.

Poor wee Alex has cough/cold at the moment, he's a bit fretful and sniffly, but I think he'll be okay, poor love.

Tee2072 · 05/09/2009 15:38

littlesarah mine was yesterday! I got pearl earrings (June's birthstone, donchaknow, so in honour of Adam.) and he got comic books and video games. We've been married 5 years.

happy anniversary to tee and littlesarah

MrsMcJnr · 05/09/2009 16:30

Hey ladies, sorry I?ve not been around much. DS is really wearing my patience thin with his naughtiness he just won?t nap or go to bed nicely at night and it is affecting Aaliyah too. Just don?t know what to do about him. I?ve posted in the Sleep section but there haven?t been any golden tips quite yet. He finally went to sleep last night at 10pm which meant Aaliyah wouldn?t until after that then he was up again at 6am and I went into his room to try and get him back to sleep for 1 ½ hour before Aaliyah woke up and DH took over DS. Really dreading bedtime again as the nap didn?t happen at all today?

Aaliyah would now like some milk so I will try and catch up tonight. Hope all is well!

llynnnn · 05/09/2009 18:13

happy anniversary Tee and Littlesarah! hope you all have lovely days!

mrsmc - sorry you are having a tough time with your ds, hope tonights bedtime goes better than last

MrsMcJnr · 05/09/2009 22:55

Here to catch up now but am feeling very down. DH and I have been fighting - about nothing - something I didn't do for me that he said he would and he told me "to go jump off the balcony and land on your head" I am so silly I know but I am so hurt when did it all get so nasty.

MrsMcJnr · 05/09/2009 23:17

DS went to bed quite well tonight and Aaliyah was also down by 9.30 so that was good. DH and I had a nice dinner, some wine and watched a film, all seemed fine until he turned nasty

Enjoying meeting you all on FB!

I?ve run out of Pregnacare vits and feel so run down, I have 4 ulcers in my mouth and my hair is falling out in clumps!

Daisy ? can?t see what happened to your DD, all ok?

Llynnn ? you are right, kids home in on signs of weakness. I?m doing baby massage with Aaliyah at home, she loves it especially her face and back!

Naat ? hope you all have a lovely day tomorrow yay! your dissertation is safely handed in!

Bigcar ? hope you are having some R&R this weekend.

Ermintrude ? hope you had fun at the wedding today!

Choccie ? my DS still uses size 2 at 19m, we use size 3 for night milk and it still flows too fast for him. Hope Elina?s colic has dies down again. I am also angry for you about the neighbours, how selfish time to take a stand! Hope you had fun with your friend; sounds like you could do with some champers too!

June ? hope you are having a lovely time

Littlesarah ? hope you are having a lovely day MIL sounds like she?s hard work! Hope Alex is feeling better too.

Tee ? hope you had fun on your anniversary. Nice gift. I have tiny peal earrings for Aaliyah
