Sorry, forgot to say... daisy- that video doesn't look too bad to me!! I was expecting it to be a lot worse!! Lol! Food on the walls and ceiling etc etc!!

StrawberrySam- Midwives predictions on weight are crap arn't they?? I had to go for constant growth scans because they kept telling me how small I was, but Caelan was 8lb 6ozs, so nothing to worry about!! I'm sure you are allowed on here, lol, Caelan was born on the 3rd of July!! We can be in our own little July sub-group of the June thread!!

Skillbo · 29/09/2009 14:00

Hello all

Am hoping I get time to post before Jazzy wakes up as we are out this afternoon as the great-grans are still in town!

Hi Strawbs - congratulations on your gorgeous lttle girl, sorry to hear you're suffering but hopefully your doc will be able to help. I sneaked onto here a few weeks back as didn't know these threads existed but am making myself very comfy..

Daisy - am very you've been on holiday. With extending my maternity leave and going unpaid has meant that we won't be getting away for any R&R anytime soon. My parents live in Spain so we may well visit them but it's not exactly relaxing - they're getting on and although they were sooo sweet when Jazzy was born, I was ready for them to go home (after 7 weeks!!). I had a good giggle about your advice about saying how you've tried something but it didn't help without trying it... I seem to do that a lot

I am also very jealous of you, worried, as we don't have any baby lessons here and we have to pay for half an hour in the pool which is full of screaming toddlers careening around! Jazzy undecided at the mo as well although I like it!

MrsMc - you obviously rate Annable Karmel.. my MIL bought me the book and have had a quick flick but wasn't sure about it. However, I'm also really unsure about BLW, particularly as I'm going back to work when Jazzy is 7 months. My DP is going to be a SAHD so she would have someone to watch her but seems an awful faff! I guess I'm saying any recommendations from people who have been thrugh it before would be great. I am going to try to leave it until 6 months though so a while to go yet (fingers well an truly crossed)

Naat - shrieking doesn't sound too bad, Jazzy has started screaming - not the I'm hungry or unhappy creaming, just noise (normally with a big smile on her face). I am hoping it's just a phase and she'll get out of it but??

Oh goodness, cries coming from the back room so best get on. Take care all!

ermintrude13 · 29/09/2009 14:00

Yay Strawberry Welcome back!! . We've been worried about you, haven't we girls? So lovely to hear that all was well and Elizabeth arrived safe and sound - and a nice small bundle to shoot out!

Good luck with trawling through the hundreds of messages! To save you time, I had Arthur Joseph at home on 29 June - 11 days late weighing in at a hefty 10lb. He's a little (well OK quite big) angel.

Well done for seeing the doc too - there are a couple of others with PND experience either this time or previously, and it's not defeat to accept some vital help which will make you happier as a person and a mummy. Look forward to hearing more from you xx

Naat · 29/09/2009 14:20

Worried, I have them in blue and green and I got them from Boots, I'm sure you can find them in other colours. Oh my God, what a stressful moment yesterday! (((hug))) Glad to hear he slept well, don't worry, he won't remember it. Another ((hug))

strawberry, hi! Nice to hear from you again. Glad to hear you had quite a fast active labour and that everything went well. Time flies, doesn't it? Sorry to hear about your PND, hope you start feeling better soon

Ermin, Mila has been sleeping in her cot (next to our bed) for about 9 weeks now... I couldn't do the feeding in bed at night for long as I felt I slept even less So I don't know...yesterday she got chatty after her 4.30 feed and only fell asleep at 5.30! I try to sleep when she naps but there's also lots to do so sometimes I just get distracted with things and just go on

Choccie, how sweet you DC sound except when they wake Elina to play, of course. How's she feeling with the new meds?

Waves!!

Naat · 29/09/2009 14:25

xpost, skillbo!
I'm also hoping it's a phase, yesterday she went on an on for about an hour
Hope you have fun this afternoon!

worriedamy · 29/09/2009 14:31

skillbo- all our swimming lessons are run through the children's centre, is there not something similar by you? The children centre is great, all the courses are free, including tummy time sessions and baby massage! I should really start making more use of it before the conservative Government comes in and inevitably funding for Children's Centres get cut !! I think its run by Surestart... it is quite a socio-economically deprived area around here, so that might be the reason we get quite a few free things!! Suppose there are some benefits lol! They did free trampolining lessons in the summer too, but Caelan was a bit small for them then

LittleSarah · 29/09/2009 14:33

Hi Strawberry! Congrats on Elizabeth!

Hey all

Re weaning - I'm holding off as long as possible, started about 5 months last time but want to make it til 6 months this time if possible. I would really like to do BLW, unlike llynnn (you saint you!) I hated pureeing and used jars too often. I like the idea of baby just having what we have either in his hands or mashed a bit. My cousin has a great BLW book so I'm going to try that, if not I'll probably just puree what we are having, if okay for him. My boy has grown so much on just milk and he seems fine so definitely happy to keep to that for now. Worried - I agree it's just good to suck it and see, some people/babies are more comfortable with different things and you'll realise soon enough what suits you. If you want it Gill Rapley's BLW book is here

Sleep is a bit better, still waking in the night but really only needing a proper feed once. Tee we do use a dummy and now he will tend to take it and go back to sleep mostly, except as I said for that one hungry one! Oh Naat, what a bugger for you with the sleep, you must be exhausted. I know how you feel and I am certainly not confident it is over for us! Naps are essential!

Choccie - You too must be knackered! Your weekend away will hopefully be a great tonic for you!

Daisy - Nice to have you back, sounds like things have been hectic!

Bigcar - I also think Alesha improved this week (typical Bruce being Mr Nicie Nicie!), perhaps she had a bit of coaching... love Richard (just seemed sweet) but not surprised he went. Ricky and Zoe very good too. OOOH on Edward's teeth! Amazing!

llynnn - It is hard when they need lots of attention isn't it? Oh that sounds terrible. Just that during the day I want to clean/organise/revise theory/do laundry etc as well as being with ds and sometimes it is hard to do anything!

I am on a big get a job kick the now. Freelancing is looking very hard and I think best now just to get a regular income, I can always try freelancing in the future! I don't really want a job until the new year but media jobs in Scotland are few and far between so I need to keep my eyes open for anything good!

Anyone got any general advice for job hunting? Writing a good CV tips or anything? My first task is to send CVs and covering letters to all the media outlets based in Scotland, plan to have sent the first lot off by the end of next week.

Phew, right, must do dishes and get Alex ready to collect the little madam. hey to y'all!

LittleSarah · 29/09/2009 14:38

Cross-posted majorly!

Worried - What a horrible moment for you, glad your wee boy is okay!

Latest nuts advice here

Strawberrysam it's really good to hear from you, congrats on your little girl!
There's a list of babies somewhere at the beginning of this thread.
It's good that you went to see the doctor, you would do more harm than good trying to tackle it on your own.

worried You must have been terrified I hope you're all ok now.

back to work and hopefully we can start packing soon... :S

silkcushion · 29/09/2009 23:14

hello all
I'm desperately trying to find time to read the thread let alone post now that I'm back in work.

Girls are being very good. I feel like an army officer rather than a mum most mornings as things have to be run with military precision if I have any hope of making it to work.

Just discovered my parents will have to move in with us for most of November as their house purchase chain is about to collapse. Not ideal as they have a fairly unpredictable collie dog who we have to keep away from our children. I'm sure Megan will love have 'Gary' to stay though.

Seems unbelievable that our thoughts are now turning to weaning. Megan had her first taste of baby rice at 17 weeks after a misunderstanding with nursery who thought I'd instructed them to do it. She scoffed it down and hasn't really stopped eating since! maybe she takes after her mummy Not sure what I'll do with Eleri - play it by ear I suppose. She does seem interested in us eating, but then she likes watching people do anything. She is also quite good at staying upright already so we'll see how it goes.

hope all of you and yr littlies are doing well

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 30/09/2009 08:21

I just sat and posted a reply to everyone for an hour and then lost it. AAAGH!

Been having 3 hourly wakeups he last three nights and I'm bloody knackered. DD is definitely going through a growth spurt... hope it ends soon.

Hope all are well. Will post a longer one next time and be more careful about not deleting it accidentally...

Tee2072 · 30/09/2009 08:33

Morning all.

A actually more or less slept through last night! I feel human today!!

stawberrysam Good to see you and congrats on your girl!

Personally, my thoughts are not turning to weaning yet. Right now my thoughts are on how to get A to nap for more than 45 minutes at a time and in his cot! First step is to get some decent curtains for his room to keep the light out!

So that's me off shopping for that today!

Have a good day all.

Morning all!

Strawberry, that was a very good night! Well done Lizzie May that continue!!

Tee, have fun shopping! Glad Adam had a good night and so did you

Ineed, for you, it's enfuriating when that happens. Sorry to hear about your nigth, hope the growth spurt passes soon.

Silk, glad to hear that, despite the need to have military precision, mornings are going well and you're coping So sorry to hear your parents moving arrangements have been changed and hope you get to solve the dog issue.

June, when are you leaving?

LittleS, the best of luck job hunting I don't have much advice on the CV front as I've always done freelance work in England. Hope you had a better night last night!

Hi to all Juners!!!

A better night last night, Mila only woke up twice instead of 3 times It IS something, as I don't feel as tired, oddly as it may sound.

I'll look into baby massage classes and singing baby classes today. Apparently in the latter you go and sing with other parents and somehow that amuses babies no matter how badly we all sing

Back later!!

Waves!!!

bigcar · 30/09/2009 11:40

morning all

I've added a photo to my profile of dd3 when she first started weaning, puree makes a mess too

ineed, hope the jabs go ok!

June, hope C has recovered from her jabs

daisy, very of your holiday hope the sleepings still going well!

worried, hope you enjoy swimming. Edwards first tooth is one of the side ones, just the right time of year for fangs So long as you have your actual wedding ceremony booked, that's the main thing are you having the church and big reception or something more informal [nosey emoticon]

MrsMcJnr, hope A has recovered from her jabs

llynnn, if you find out how to clone yourself, let me know I find the clingy stage hard, you never get a wee in peace again!

naat, hope M lets you get some more sleep soon

choccie, your weekend away sounds great, you must really be looking forward to it!

strawberrysam, lovely to see you back, belated congratulations

erm, my lot also have a tendancy to crowd Edward, I think they secretly like playing with all the baby toys again

littles, good luck on the job hunting, hope something turns up soon

tee, enjoy your shopping trip and yay for a good nights sleep

dh passed his driving test yesterday only now he thinks we can get another car he'd like an evo or impreza apparently our serena just doesn't quite have the right image His work aren't giving anyone a payrise this year, not even 1%, they didn't get anything last year either, guess that's just the times we're living in right now.

naat leaving friday and I still have not packed...
I go to "baby rhyme time" at the local library, adults snging and babies rattling it's fun!
I badly want this tommee tippee teething thing now! C. is chewing her dummy.

better get back to it!

daisy5 · 30/09/2009 21:05

congratulations strawberrysam - I love lizzie - great name.

Some success at this camp - I'm back on gripe water and it's working much better than Infacol. Fraser slept 8pm - 2.30am - only wake 30mins then awake at 6.40am. Sooo much better. I hope it improves for you naat. naat - I tried baby signing classes with DD but neither of us were really enjoyed it, so I just bought the book of signs and used them with her. You don't have to go to the classes, it is quite easy I found - but then if you have a fun local class - then that's different.

Great morning - went to a baby massage course. Fraser loved it and flirted with everyone but me, giggling and chortling away. The really great thing was that he slept for a full two hours at lunchtime - which is kind of my ideal scenario given DD's daytime activities - so I was well chuffed. So I'm thinking I might give him a massage every morning around 11.00 then feed him and wait for the magic to happen.

bigcar - I think I must have been really lucky with DD, she wasn't a messy eater really - although it's coming back to me that there was a time when I dragged her highchair into the kitchen and let her eat there - so maybe my memory is just selective and very very poor!!!!!

june - have a great holiday - is this Cyprus or visiting family in France?

LittleSarah · 30/09/2009 21:47

Hey ladies

Driving lesson number four today, really good! Pretty nervous before, felt like I was beginning to get a feel for it last week but obviously it's all quite new! Anyway, went on a good long drive round the city and it went fairly smoothly, the odd bugger up but really pleased overall! Phew. Even got to 40mph (in a 50 zone don't worry!) and had a go at turning in a road (or some such manouvre).

Not much else to report. I asked dd if she ever got any of the badges I see some of the other kids with (say things like 'I am responsible' and so on) and she said 'the teacher says I have to listen more'. Oh dear! She is a bit of a cheeky chatterbox sometimes, but then so was I and I managed fine! (Obviously I encouraged listening more rather than blithe confidence in talking and learning simultaneously)! She also has apparently got a friend in P2 she plays with at playtime... and she has been invited to three parties so far so at least she is making friends.

Busy for the next couple of days. Going to see a friend's orchestra thing tomorrow (dad is babysitting) and then a meal for my brother and sister's birthday tomorrow. I'm already looking forward to Saturday and a fairly quiet weekend!

Daisy - Your massage sounds fab, a friend of mine is doing it but I just haven't found the time or money to sort it out! Maybe next time.

Bigcar - WELL DONE to your dh! That is fab news! Was it first time? I can't imagine passing first time - so much to think about - but would love to. My dh also wants a new car, ours/his is secondhand, very cheap and runs fine but he wants a new new car. I know it will be a shock to me when I finally drive ours, where in the instructors everything is very light and smooth ours needs a firmer hand!

Naat and Strawberry - Sleep very up and down here too. At the moment it is usually once or twice (more often twice) but at least the period recently where it was three or four has come to an end. Fingers crossed.

Silk - You sound like you are fantastically organised at getting everyone on the go in the morning. I'll be trying to follow your lead when I get a job, hopefully not too soon, but then, not too long either! I just want something good, not any old thing with a pay cheque.

Skillbo · 30/09/2009 22:50

Good evening - going to quickly(!) post this and then hit the hay as feeling rather pooped..

I think the excitement of the last few days got to Jazzy as she slept for almost 3 hours this lunchtime - unheard of. I wish I'd known as kept expecting her to wake up so didn't do much other than play on here! Tee and Strawbs - unfortunately, I don't have any tips on how I got her to sleep in her cot - she just started doing it when I put her in there, just luck I guess. Naat - like Mila, Jazzy is in her cot beside the bed to make the nightime feedings easier.

On that subject, can I ask - for those of you bf, do you feed your lo whenever they wake in the night? I think I read on here somewhere that someone just patted them back to sleep, or their DH sorted it out, and just wondered if I'm feeding too often. Will probably stick with it for now but I am a little shattered.

Worried - I am a member of Surestart as I live in a shit deprived area but they don't offer swimming (although I have asked). I do get along to all sorts of other things - they've been a bit of a lifeline for me as I don't know many other young mums in this area. Daisy - they run a massage group and we have been going since Jazzy was almost 3 weeks. She absolutely lurves it and always has a nice snooze afterwards. She also seems to flirt with everyone there apart from me! Naat - there are also singing classes but have yet to make it to one ... I remember being really self conscious the first time I sang at a different group but am now so up for it and really want to get to the class. Maybe next week!

The great grans are still iu town but have got a couple of days away from them which I shouldn't be relieved about as they are very sweet and are spoiling her rotten but... am looking forward to having out little routine back. Not that we have much of a routine but it will be nice being able to get up when we want or lie in bed if she fancies it. I am going to get her weighed tomorrow - am thinking could be quite a gain as her little tummy is getting really chubby now - loving it .

Bigcar - I desperately want a car but just don't have the cash. I think I might have to bite the bullet and ask my parents for a loan so that I can get one for when I get back to work - don't really want to be reliant on really shite public transport in case Jazzy needs me.

Anyways, time is ticking and I really do want to get my head down... the internet is too addictive!

Take care all xx

Skillbo · 30/09/2009 23:09

Oh - and splashed out today and bought Jazzy her first Christmas pressie:

Rocking Reindeer

Who wants a boring horse anyways and I just couldn't resist. And I got a skeleton costume for Halloween but MIL bought that .

MrsMcJnr · 30/09/2009 23:44

Hey girls, just checking in very briefly. I have 2 sick babies - both have colds and Aaliyah's teething on top of that is making her miserable

Strawberry - so delighted to see your post I was really worried about you and am so relieved to hear about Elizabeth - congratulations! I'll follow Ermintrude's lead and simply say that my daughter Aaliyah Rosemary was born at home on 10 June, 6 days late and weighing 3.8kgs. It wasn't a planned home birth, she just arrived VERY quickly! 16 weeks on exactly and I cannot imagine life without her, she is such a sweetheart and my DS adores her too

I'll catch up tomorrow....!

June2009 · 01/10/2009 00:09

*Naat" I also go to tinytalk.co.uk sign language classes and our instructor is really fab and enthusiastic. It's £5.50 per class though which is a bit steep, but then again they charge per family and not per person.
I have that exact same mat :D

daisy it's nice to hear from you again. We're off to Cyprus and I cannot wait.
I finished work for the accountant, just have to drop it off tomorrow, and then pack!
c. Loves her massages as well :D:D

LittleS I took my driving license 3 time!!! I love driving now :D
re cvs, I know what I look for is experience and cvs that are more than one page long just don;t really get read.
I also can tell straight away if the person who has applied has not a clue what our company does or how big it is and they go to the bottom of the pile.
I'd say do your research on the company and make sure you would ctually enjoy the work there or that it is suitable for you, the environment, wether it's team work etc and get your cv to reflect your strong points based on that.

skillbo don't feel guilty about liking to have your own space, we've had extensive conversations here about visitors and how it's lovely when they come and lovely when they leave .

LOL mrsmc I'm talking about weaning soon probably because I have not read about it yet :D I am starting to realise that maybe I talked too soon...It just sounded like good idea :S

bigcar I check C's gums everyday for teeth :D, congrats for your dh on passing his driving test!

Tee they have shutters in France and it really made a difference to C.'s sleep. She does not sleep more than 30 minutes during the day.
I dont mind too much as she pretty much sleeps from around 10pm to 8am. (before you get jealous though that does not mean I am sleeping as I am insomniac.

Ineed argh, that's happened to me before...deleted everything cause I put the wrong password in.
hope you get more sleep, how's the colic?

silk I hope thigs aren't too hectic for you, it's hard enough getting ourselves ready to go out anywhere and I'm late everywhere as it is :S

choccie have a nice weekend, does dh have help to cope or can he do it on his own?

erm I forgot your baby was late as well, 11 days, same as C.

My BFP, on 02/10, the day we were flying abroad, my period was a day late and I tried a pregnancy stick before we left for the airport.
We'd been trying for 3 months. There was a very faint line but I couldn't be sure. I told dh and told him not to get excited as I didn't know for sure.
I grabbed a couple of sticks with us and off we went, the trip was long, the plane was delayed, we landed 5 hours later, got a rental car and drove a couple of hours to the middle of nowhere in the mountains,
I got up very early the next morning and got a big fat line :D. We just went back to sleep saying "oh my god" a lot!!
Then I panicked a bit cause I hadn't thought about what would happen once I was pregnant and there was no internet and we were far rom civilisation.
I wondered wether I was even supposed to be that high altitude, or even flying!!! What I could eat or not, by the time I saw the doctor back home we figured I was probably around 6 weeks pregnant.

I'm taking C. to be weighed tomorrow.
Are any of you bottle feeding at all? I'm wondering when to change the teat on the bottle, I'm still using the first ones that came with the tommee tippee bottles.

wow, so tired now, better be off to bed!

Naat · 01/10/2009 09:05

Morning all!

June, not long now!! Hope you get to pack today. Did you have a good rest? Your last post was quite late, hope insomnia didn't kick in when you were going to bed.

Mrsmc, oh, hope the DC get better soon, poor little lambs.

skill, that's so cute!!! I'm in LOVE with a cow from M&P since I was pg I'll go and buy it soon Completely understand what you mean re. visitors, it's nice when it's back to your own little routine

LittleS, well done on the lessons Oh I was just like DD A chatterbox! (I became shy later ) but it's great that she's like that, outgoing and not shy Glad she's making friends

Daisy, that baby massage sounds lovely. I'm going to a BM class on Tuesday next week. Baby singing and rhymes was nice, we sang lots of songs (most are new to me, obviously ) I only knew the wheels of the bus, insy winsy spider and one about a teapot oh and row the boat I liked it, and Mila enjoyed watching other kids around her and all the colours around her

Now I'm all confused, what's the difference between baby SIGNING and baby SINGING? Because I went to baby singing but we sang a song with signs at the end of the hour.

Bigcar, well done to your DH!!

Up twice during the night again, but now she's zonked, of course

We're going down to LONDON tomorrow YAY! DH is taking half the day off so as to arrive at a decent hour (there're lots of road works in the middle and it takes ages these days) and we're spending the weekend there. Really happy, hope the weather behaves

Hi to all!! Waves!!!

ermintrude13 · 01/10/2009 10:23

LittleS don't worry about the stickers. DS1 remarked that the really naughty children always got stickers and at his school they do seem to be used as incentives for the kids with small attention spans rather than for those who normally do good work and behave well. He's been put in the 'gifted and talented' group but the only stickers he generally gets are ones from the dinner ladies because he's eaten everything, or ones that say 'I bumped my head today' .

Skillbo hope your folks can help you with a car. You can easily spend less than £1000 on a reliable little city runaround but could do with someone who knows what they're talking about helping you buy -my DH is v good at this and I was v sorry to pass on the little Fiat he got me for £800 to my sister when we inherited a Corsa (thanks to my mum - she buys a new car and passes on her 'old' ones - lovely 3 yr old Peugots!- to one child who then passes theirs down the line. Very lucky for us!).

Re: night feeds - A only wakes up once usually and feeds for about 25 mins then sleeps. Rarely he wakes up twice, in which case I feed him both times. I think if there's a lot of waking it might be worth patting and gently talking to see if she drops off again - they shouldn't need to keep feeding a lot at night on a regular basis. Have you tried feeding her loads before she actually goes to bed?

Very cute reindeer! We're getting Arthur absolutely nothing partly because he'll just like the wrapping paper but also because he's inherited so much lovely stuff including a rocking lion v much like that reindeer.

June at Cyprus, how lovely. I might take A to baby massage - my sis takes her daughter and at the end of the session all the towels are wet because the babies are so relaxed they all wee

I think Tee has recently had success with Variflow teats - Tee, are you there to advise?

bigcar well done to your DH - will this mean much less running around for you? Hope so!

Naat sorry, I thought you were co-sleeping. Not sure what to suggest if M is waking in her cot so frequently. Would trying not to feed every time she wakes be an idea? It's just so easy to latch them on and let them fall asleep at the breast rather than get up and walk around, so tbh I'd probably just feed.

Ah, all those songs I'm going to have to sing again. Baby Signing is a newish method of getting pre-verbal babies to say when they want milk or a biscuit etc. There are mixed opinions about the benefits of this for DC who do not have hearing or learning difficulties - my own observation is that by the time most babies can reliably communicate in this way they are just about talking anyway . But some mums swear by it. As for the singing - most of the songs have actions and some have been taken from sign languages like Makaton (as used by Justin aka Mr Tumble on CBeebies, who you'll get to know intimately v soon so that they can be enjoyed by lots of children.

Blimey, have written a novel here. Must get the toilets cleaned, hi to all others.

bigcar · 01/10/2009 11:41

morning all

june, hope you get the packing done, have a wonderful holiday

daisy, yes I remember that stage well, when you let them loose with the spoon and a yoghurt and they redecorate the kitchen! Never mind that great game of chucking the bowl on the floor

littles, dh passed second time, all the best people do, so he tells me. Passing first time would just be showing off it's a good job it also took me two goes as well! I'd definitely agree with erm on the stickers, especially in the first few weeks they go to the children that are struggling to settle.

skillbo, we have one of their old ladybird rockers, they are lovely. I'm a big fan of the childrens centres too, we have a few round here.

MrsMcJnr, hope your los are getting better

naat, have a great weekend in London

erm, also struggling on what to get Edward for christmas as we already have half a ton a few toys lying around Less running around for me until the novelty of driving wears off I think, so probably not for long!
