June 2007 They're (almost all) two which makes them hard work in a whole new range of ways. But just as adorable!

Ooh can't do anything except panic ...off upstairs till DH gets home

HellHathNoFury · 07/07/2009 10:30

When I lived in Aus I had a huntsman spider living in the boot of my car. The only time it ever bothered me was when I was driving and it crawled onto my side mirror and when I went to overtake all I saw was big brown tarantula, scared the crap out of me.

It went on to lay a nest of baby huntsmen in my letter box.

I got bitten by a spider in Brazil once, that wasn't very nice though.

My IL's had a funnelweb problem last time I was there. Bothered me less than the bed bug bites I got

HellHathNoFury · 07/07/2009 10:33

MOTHS, however, scare the crap out of me

I HATE MOTHS

Rialentless · 07/07/2009 10:42

you are a very brave person fury. I am not good with small things that move quickly. But I am not scared of cows.

LittleMissNorty · 07/07/2009 11:08

My lovely DH has just walked in (with the hump), got rid, called me a prat and gone back to work.

Phew.

I know I'm a baby

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 07/07/2009 12:07

I'm scared by those 8-legged beasties too Norty. We had a big one high up on the living room wall last week. I had to be very controlled to try not to freak out until DH got up and then I politely and calmly asked him to deal with it. He got the hoover out.

And Fury - you are indeed very brave. No way could I have coped with that spider in my car! A flat I lived in had a huge spider in the cupboard where the cleaning stuff was kept. I just removed all the cleaning stuff and kept the cupboard locked up for the time I lived there! Mind I did have a pair of very wooly (alpaca wool) black gloves and have been known to freak myself looking at my hands and thinking of tarantulas while wearing them!

I'm afraid I have to have them dead in this house.

DH told me the other day he'd killed one and 10 minutes later it crawled across the carpet again.....this time I went and checked for evidence in the bin

DD sat at the table saying "spider mummy", I said "don't be silly darling, there's no spider".....oh yes there fucking is.....aaarrrgghhh (I just left the kids in there whilst I panicked for 10 minutes wondering what I was going to do )

How am I going to avoid imparting my anxieties onto my children

Oh well......back to normal now

Rialentless · 07/07/2009 12:42

I want one of these

I have had too much lunch

Rialentless · 07/07/2009 13:02

OK, if anyone's about, I have one of my bizarre style questions. I want a "thing" for my hair, when I was a kid my mum had one and it was a piece of leather with a hole in either side and a stick that went through the hole to hold your hair up. Any ideas what they are called/where I can get one? (can't get to town til Friday, so can't go and look round the likely shops to find one myself).

Sputnik · 07/07/2009 13:11

Hi Catkin! Nice to see you
Funny, we hardly ever get spiders here except thin whispy ones. My sister used to get my Dad to drive 7 miles to her house to catch spiders, since they moved to Wales I guess she has found an alternative.
Ria that reminds me, your photo of the cow on FB was absolutely brilliant.

HellHathNoFury · 07/07/2009 13:15

Ria it's called a barrette, you can get them on ebay.

Suddenly I can't stop smelling pencil shavings. how odd.

I used to be scared of spiders but living in Australia for 4 years, then a caravan for 3, then in a tent for 8 months in various deserts/savannahs/rainforests soon teaches you not to be scared of spiders/scorpions/snakes etc.

I am really not brave though. The idea of public speaking, for example, scares me quite a bit.

We quite often found scorpions under the bed in the tent, they liked the warmth, but my favourite was finding an anaconda under the jeep. It was only a little one though so we played with it for a while.

Having said that, I still hate moths and Australian centipedes which look like they belong in Men in Black.

HellHathNoFury · 07/07/2009 13:20

HIPPOS.

Now they scare me a lot.

A woman I was travelling with in Kenya got killed by one.

Off to physio. Have managed to find a cleaner today to replace the one that gives giving me excuses. She is thai, maybe she can cook for us too

Sputnik · 07/07/2009 13:20

I know what you mean, used to have one. Not sure what they're called though.

Rialentless · 07/07/2009 13:32

it was a fab cow

thanks fury.

Sputnik · 07/07/2009 13:39

Ria I have one of those I never used as I have too much hair, do you want to borrow it? It's metal and wood though.

LittleMissNorty · 07/07/2009 13:40

can get them in Boots and Claires accessories as well.

Thunder storm here atm!

Spiders are the no 1 reason why I could never emigrate (well obviously except to Italy then )

Sputnik · 07/07/2009 13:50

We do have scorpions here though. Though not had them in the house this year since we put nets on the windows.

Rialentless · 07/07/2009 14:44

thanks sputnik, will see what I can get in Claires (horrible claustrophobic shop that it is)

I have cleaned out my bottom bathroom cupboard. I have way too much crap. bloody plastic razor shields, they're worse than tumble dryer fluff!

hope the rain has eased off here for an hour - DH has had to go to the jobcentre (it's not enough that they didn't properly close his IB claim last year, they now haven't ended his JSA claim, so his new IB claim can't start. Why is it so comnplicated?) so have to walk to school.

Rialentless · 07/07/2009 14:46
