OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
sparkletoes · 19/06/2009 17:07

LOL Pinky yes DS1 would have done same at that age! I have avoided playdoh til now as I had a carpet issue but we have wooden flooring mostly downstairs now so I think I could allow it now!!

Poor poorly babies, hope Mimi and Tegan's DD2 get well soon. The tooth breaking through at the top seems to have calmed Tiny down a bit but he now has a runny nose so prolly another cold now...!

Bedtime on your own every night is rough Tegan I only have to do that when DH working away but I always kinda dread it..

Oblomov · 19/06/2009 20:15

Sorry for interuption, but ....
I have double posted, re trying to find green sandals for M's christening, in a couple of weeks.
Getting fab advice on both threads. What shall I do ? Do I ask for one to be closed down.

Ceebee74 · 19/06/2009 20:40

Obs nah, just let them both run their course - double the advice

Sparks tbh, when the Hamster first arrived, DS1's sleep went to pieces and I did the 'rapid return' thing then - one night I was doing it for well over an hour at 4am!! And it didn't particularly work as it was the same the following night - in the end I cracked it by coming downstairs and surfing/watching telly for half an hour (as if it was bedtime) and it worked the first night! Might have to go down that route again if he gets up again tonight.

Just wanted to say that the Hamster it totally into BLW!! I wasn't intending on going down that route but, whilst he will be spoonfed, he much prefers the food in front of him and can eat it really well - tonight for tea, he demolished an adult-sized ricecake spread with philly and then a biscotti biscuit and there was hardly any waste at all!!

On that point, are the rest of you taking much notice of 'age' guidance with food - for example, the biscotti biscuits say you should mush them up with milk until the baby is 9 months whereas the Hamster has absolutely no problem in eating it normally.

LackaDAISYcal · 19/06/2009 20:51

had a scary choking moment at teatime as bumble tried to inhale a chip . It was stuck rather than obstructing though as he was still breathing, but the look of panic and pleading on his wee face .

DS1 was going bananas shouting at me that he was dying , but I managed to stay calm, unbuckle bumble from his chair, get him over my lap and pat him between the shoulder blades all as per the baby first aid course I did......chip was dislodged, and then swallowed as he obviously doesn't give up food that easily

Was quite scary, but I'm so pleased that I managed to stay calm and collected for the sake of the other DC and for bumble...don't want to put him off food at all

If anyone hasn't already done so, I would recommend a first aid course. I did one after DD's trip to hospital last year and it has made me much more confident when dealing with poorly children.

It hasn't deterred him though and we were even able to have a laugh at him trying to eat peas . He was managing to get a few in the palm of his hand using a sort of scooping motion, but couldn't get them in his mouth and they just kept falling onto his bib. cue one very confused baby with no peas in hand and no peas in mouth

LackaDAISYcal · 19/06/2009 20:53

and I'm obviously taking no notice of the guidance at all Ceebee....bumble has been eating rice cakes since about 24 weeks and well....the ice cream photos on FB say it all!

Hamster was doing really well with his breadsticks that day in the park

tegan · 19/06/2009 21:01

weaning daisy i have quite a few moments like that and now i am used to them i tend to look away as long as O is ok of course.

We are now on 7 month jars and O is having the majority of what we eat, but he doesn't have the pincer grip yet so i tend to be holding his food so he can eat it.

I am full of cold and have a feeling i will wake tomorrow with major coldsores, dd2 has been fine all day then at 3pm she suddenly fell asleep whilst sat up talking to me, after 3 hrs sleep she woke and was burning up big time so after dosing up with neurofen her temp is back to normal but she isn't herself, i just hope she will be ok to go out for a meal tomorrow with my parents.

Rosa · 19/06/2009 21:01

Just bookmarking again but you write so much its hard to catch up with you all. All ok nearly on holiday except I dh fingers in the electric windows of the car opps so he is in A/E with an ice pack......
Minirosa won't sleep properly ...Skimming it seems I am not the only one going backwards.
RIght will try and go backwards until my net time runs out..I hate this laptop it is soooo slow!
Hope you are all ok .....

LackaDAISYcal · 19/06/2009 21:02

tegan, it isn't the dreaded swine flu is it?

PinkyMinxy · 19/06/2009 21:29

well done Daisy!

Mimi has not had anything she couldn't deal with herself thus far. Babies have the most amazing choke reflex.

Got friends from coming from Zurich this evening and we are going to have a curry from the fabby nepalese place up the road (dh is picking it up as we have no sitter).

Tegan hope you are ok.x

barbareebaa · 19/06/2009 21:34

hello
crikey scary moment daisy I have constant sweaty palms when W eating and sometimes have to put my hand over my eyes. Love sweet potato at mo as when roasted just squshes and disolves so no trauma. W is an extremely keen eater and like bumble, seems oblivious to my panic and carries on regardless!!

but we had first proper poo today the excitement as the nappy was passed around to oohs and ahhs!

Went to local childrens center yest to see hv for first time since move back. How flipping fabulous it was!!! Lovely room with big cushions and treasure boxes on floor for the babies to riffle through. HV is sorting a referral to paediatrician and dietician for W's milk allergy! My God!!! What a relief - someone cares! Anyhoo diet must be ok for now as W is 20 and half lbs!

also is trying to do the bum shuffle and is bopping up and down to favourite tunes - particularly loves tunes with a nice strong bouncy bassline - much fun!

sorry - trying to be quick - W asleep on my bed so making most of the opportunity to post! Am going to go back and read properly now xx

LackaDAISYcal · 19/06/2009 21:40

Barbs......somethings are the very antithesis of "grim" up north
Glad you had a nice time; our children's centre is fab as well with a lovely baby corner. Some of them seem more geared up for older children, but ours has nice leather sofas for feeding and a fantastic playmat and baby nests....

mind you, the way P and bumble are going, we'll be following them round the floor soon, no more comfy sofas for us!

LackaDAISYcal · 19/06/2009 21:41

oh, and Nepalese curry counds interesting Pinky!

LackaDAISYcal · 19/06/2009 21:42

We're watching Apocalypto this evening....what a horrible horrible film

Well DH is watching whilst I pooter.

barbareebaa · 19/06/2009 21:52

*tegan - hope you feel better soon

Twink sounds like you're still going through it. Hoping that you get the support you need. Food diary is such a good idea tho.

Am definitely going to enquire about a first aid course. Have read up on what to do if baby chokes but so much better to have someone show you.

W awake. Had 20 mins I think sigh

ellielou02 · 19/06/2009 22:10

Hello Ladies
I haven't been on here for ages we have been really busy trying to sort out this bloody house, you would not belive the upheaval of moving one room , but its nearly all done now.
Have had a quick skim read through tegan hope your DD1 feels better soon, and doing bedtime on your own does suck I am always glad for the month DH is home and we take turns its great.
daisy you sounded very cool calm and collected at tea time it is a scary situation, M has had a few times when she has gagged quite a bit like she is chocking, DH panics but I just watch her and she can usually right it herself obv if she didnt I would do as you did, it is hard to stay calm at times though.
rosa hope DH fingers are ok sounds sore.
pinky your curry sounds fab hope you enjoy it
barbs sounds like you are settling in well after your move.
Is anyone else feeling at a bit of a low ebb just now? I am not depressed just feeling a bit lacking in confidence and fat and want new clothes but want to look good and not old IYSWIM, I go to the shops and just cant seem to decide on anything! Much to DH amusement.
twinks hope you get some help at the sleep clinic and that was a great idea of fof

ellielou02 · 19/06/2009 22:12

Sorry forgot congratulations to Phee hope you are keeping well

ellielou02 · 19/06/2009 22:17

sparkle are you in scotland too??

AFingerofFudge · 19/06/2009 22:46

ellielou2 am with you on the lacking in confidence and feeling fat. Don't feel on a low about it, just pissed off really. Am waiting for someone to look at my fat stomach and ask when the baby is due
tegan hope DD2 will be perky by the morning. Noticed on your pages you are also in Gloucestershire! Whereabouts are you?
lacks brave you with the chip choker. I'd have been flapping around in a panic.

M is still off form today. Coughing and snotty and I have noticed a couple of spots this evening. Possibly insect bites, but possibly chicken pox, as I know he has come into contact with a friends little boy who has it. Will wait and see. Anyway, he has been a right grump today. Normally he is good about being put down, but today he was having none of it. Poor thing, he's obviously feeling rubbish. Can do without more illness though after the other weeks episode. And we're going on holiday to Ireland next week, so hope he gets on with it if it is chicken pox (what a sympathetic mum he has}!
Talking of Ireland, anyone heard from suiledonn recently?

twinklingfairy · 19/06/2009 23:54

O hyes, That reminds me sparkle you mentioned a meet up?
Yes I am all the way up in Caithness, where are you again?

Thanks for the birthday wish daisy.
My day started out a bit poo. I had organised an UnBirthday party for tommorrow. Partly a meet up for a group of us that meet up monthly (tried to get them all last month but got no's from so many I cancelled). So I thought calling it a party would catch them all, also I fancy the idea of giving my babes a midsummer party just for the sake of it.
Gave them all notice a month ago, but when I sent out my reminder text, I got 4/7 no's. Added a couple of others just in case but then they started to say no too.
Finally my friend double booked herself so thought she would just say no to me too.
So I said bugger poo to the lot o' ye's a'm cancellin!
Ended up at mums all upset and teary So was sent to bed cos was obv tired.

So, what did I get for my birthday? 2 hours sleep !!!!! Fantastic!!!!

Had lovely meal out with DH tonight.

Only to come home to find J has been up every 1/2 to 3/4 hour missing his mummy and not settling for anyone else.
Now, of course, he is soundo.
Dummy in situ, but I really don't care!

twinklingfairy · 19/06/2009 23:56

Me too ellie I had to borrow from my mum just to feel I had something new.

First thing sister said when I asked how I look, why are your trousers so baggy?
ie you look a bit frumpy/fat in them.

Cheers sis

tegan · 20/06/2009 07:31

daisy I am dismissing the swine flu thing as it would be something else for me to stress over, how exactly is swine flu different from an everyday cold?

fudge i live in the forest of dean, where abouts are you hun??

O was up at his usual 5.30am and after a night of me being unable to sleep because of my cold, dd2 unsettled because of her cold and then the sound of terrential rain i feel like i haven't slept for a month.

sparkletoes · 20/06/2009 08:42

Morning all!

Ok will type fast so I don't forget too much!!

Daisy well done on the choking incident, you are soo right about a first aid class, I did one yonks ago so need a refresher. Agree with Pinky on the amazing baby choking reflex! Tinytoes has recovered his composure many a time too so I don't worry too much about the food guidelines this time...

Ceebs yes I have ended it up in much the same position (surfing/telly watching) when Tiny has refused to go back to sleep. It is a good one.. only time my laptop is quite speedy is 4am! (with u Rosa on the slooooooow laptops!)

LOL at Barbs passing round the "proper poo"!!

Twinks & Ellielou yes I am in bonnie Scotland (near Paisley) but travel oop north as DH family from Thurso. We haven't made the trip up so far with TIny just cos of exhaustion../DH work../more exhaustion.. but plan to go up next month. Where are you both?

Fudge sooo with you on the fatness DH bought me a lovely long cardi I had been eyeing up in Glasgow and when I tried it on I honestly look about 6 months gone unless I suck everything in!!! more gah! Then I can't breathe of course...

On a lighter note, Tinytoes slept much better again last night, up at 2am and DH went in and did some baby whispering (I swear that only works for Dads!!). Anyway it worked and he didn't surface again til 6am a minor miracle I feel!! Oh that reminds me also agree with Daisy on the are they warm enough..? I think that it has gotten a lot colder esp at night here recently and Tiny has also been napping better when he is well wrapped up.

Major apologies for loooooooong post....

twinklingfairy · 20/06/2009 09:57

We are in Castletown sparkle
How exciting I might be able to meet a MN mum!
God, now I am also scared, think I will hide.

Oh tegan poor you.
Bad enough that it be one lickle baby at the root of the problem, but a cold and another LO too

I think DS did not wake for a feed until 3am last night
I know I went to bed at nearly 1, actually I only think I did. I didn't feed him then so it must have been just the 3am and a 450 again. Up at 615 though
So DH got the pair of them at 7 whilst I jumped into DDs bed.
Just up now.
Bliss!!

LackaDAISYcal · 20/06/2009 11:58

sorry to do this to y'all, but.........

12 hours

I feel a bit gloating about it, but I figure I have served my time and can gloat with impunity

anyway, this has been a steady improvement since him being in another room....so maybe it's worth a shot, sparkles and twinkling?

sparkletoes · 20/06/2009 12:31

Twinks DH is originally from Castletown!! Small world eh? Know what you mean about scared tho, I think it is because this site is as anonymous as you want it to be, meeting someone in RL is a bit like.. well meeting your heroes (!!). Expectations and all that... you know what I mean.

That said I do not bite (well actually I do bite Tiny's toes and am often tempted by his bum and thighs). But you (and anyone else) will be quite safe! If you want to meet up for coffee when I am up (mid July) that would be lovely...

Don't worry about the gloating Daisy it gives me HOPE!!! Hope that one day this WILL all end and I will perhaps get (for the most part) some long stretches of undisturbed, blissful, energy inducing, happiness making, skin glowing SLEEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There that felt much better just typing that perhaps I should become religious after all.... hope is the answer.

I am deffo sticking with the other room idea for the moment, funnily enough DS1 started sleeping thru when we moved him to his own room too. Why did I persevere for so long with them in the same room??!!??
