Is anyone else finding their naps going a bit awry at the moment?

ds2 used to have a fairly GF pattern of a sleep at 9-10am then a sleep around 1-3pm. Only now he's not tired enough at 9, but not able yet to go through until 12 ish for his main snooze. We're compromising by shifting it to 9.30am-10.30am then the 1-3pm, but that gets buggered up on at least 3 separate days because of morning activities. I'll probably just get it sorted and he'll change on me again.

Got new shoes for him at the weekend, but really cross with "captive audience" Clarks. You feel pressured to go there because otherwise you may damage their feet, but the staff don't seem to know what they're doing (I wanted cruising shoes not first shoes, but she got the wrong type out to start with, couldn't cope with a wriggly baby, and didn't know the products & prices) and I've come out with no confidence that they fit properly. Got myself really worried about it now. He also doesn't seem to be able to cope with shoes - they seem to get in his way? Anyone else find that with the cruising shoes - is it just time needed so they get used to them, or is it a sign that they're badly fitted? I can't remember from first time around!

Otherwise, he's still being a cheeky little monkey. He loved his elder brother's party at the weekend and had all the 4 year olds being very loving towards him, was really sweet Just two more days until his birthday - he's oblivious but ds1 and I am really excited!!

Oh, and we STILL have no more sodding teeth! Despite a week or two of full on dribbling, runny nappies, gnawing, chewing, grumpiness... and STILL THE FIRST FOUR TEETH ONLY! I swear he'd better get about ten in one swoop otherwise he'll have ME TO ANSWER TO!

georgina, our sleep patterns vary, depending on whether she gets up at 7 OR i'm desperate for a lie in and give her a bottle of milk then and she sleeps til 10!

otherwise, she'd normally have a sleep at 10ish for up to 3 hours! if it only last for and hour ish she has another in the afternoon of a similar length. all depends on going out etc too. i'm amazed you've managed to keep such a routine with 2. well done. you're a super mum!

GeorginaA · 09/05/2005 17:55

Oh gawd, I wish! Out of necessity really, because of the way nursery and other activities have worked and he doesn't sleep when we're out... poor mite gratefully sinks into his sleeping bag when he finally gets to his cot But now I feel the change of routine in the air and it's terrifying me

Just briefly chatted to cat on MSN and she's still around - just got a stinking cold and low on energy - she sends her love and hugs

Georgina - I have just fiddled around with DS's routine so that it fit in better with me...am still watching him though to check that it's not to his detriment (every time he cries, I have guilt trip that he's overtired )
Basically I've got rid of his morning nap - I would be breaking my neck to get DD to preschool for 9.15 and leg it back home to put him in bed for 9.30. Then I could hear him pratting around in his cot before falling asleep about 9.45 and me wondering how long I should let him sleep for... So he is just sleeping 1-2.30 (or just after), in bed by 7pm and up at 8am. If he starts waking earlier then I'll have to rethink or pull his LTN forward and give him longer at it.
I thought he was getting cross and whingey this evening but when he threw back his head to emit a huge yell, I noticed another molar peeking through!
Think that's all my news. DH still in Dublin, Guinness still tastes better there (oh good, thanks for bobbing over to check) and DD has been dancing around a maypole! I have mostly been wiping noses and bottoms.

Judd · 09/05/2005 19:54

Yep, 2 more days to our Big One as well! Very very excited about it.

GeorginaA · 09/05/2005 19:59

I have tried skipping the morning nap, but he gets REALLY cranky and miserable and then sleeps badly at lunchtime, so he just doesn't seem quite there yet (and first time I tried a little while back he actually fell asleep in his highchair while eating lunch, ). Probably will give it up within the next few weeks though - just this hellish interim period to get through!

Georgina, Dd2 only has four teeth -what's wrong with that? She's got some more coming through though - very dribbly and off her food at the moment.

Had a panic today - dh took her to GP this morning to check out a lump on her genitals that had gone all red and angry over the weekend, and she referred us to paediatrics to have it removed immediately - cue me leaving work almost hysterical, sat in paediatrics at the hospital for three hours before a consultant came and told us there was no need to remove it and sent us home! We still don't know what it is but apparently we'll get an emergency dermatology appointment throught tomorrow or wednesday. I was a bit peed off with the consultant gynaecologist who asked us whether we thought she should have antibiotics - don't know, I don't have a medical degree, we thought you might, THAT'S WHY WE CAME HERE!

Hope you're all enjoying the celebrations this month.

Latest plan for dd2's birthday (on 21st) is to invite godparents (that's three seperate families) and about 6 babies of similar age and a couple of older ones for dd1 for a couple of hours on the day. We hope to have my mum and sister and families over this coming weekend.

Distel · 09/05/2005 20:12

Hello

Can I join you - I have a toddler who will be 1 on wednesday.

helsy · 09/05/2005 20:18

I'm sure you can Distel - nice to see you. Boy or girl? First one?
They're very nice on here.

GeorginaA · 09/05/2005 20:20

Hello Distel! Your toddler shares a birthday with Judd and my little ones! Make yourself comfy

helsy: nothing wrong as such, but I've been swearing blind he's been teething for months now even to the point of "seeing" the white of the teeth through the gums! Am getting bored Also want to be able to give him more chewy foods that he really needs molars for!

Your hospital experience sounds very scary Hope all goes well with the emergency appointment - let us know if you get someone slightly more helpful rolls eyes emoticon

Would you mind if I joined as well? My dd will be 1 on 24th May. I also have a ds who is 4. dd is a really laid back, smiley happy baby unless she is crossed and then she becomes a little terror with punching arms and stamping feet, very funny to watch but god help us when she reaches age two!
Can't think of anything else to tell you at the moment but would love to join in the chat

Distel · 09/05/2005 20:29

My ds is a boy (obviously!), I have a dd (3 ON SUNDAY) anD another ds (5), I live in Bath with my Dh who is a builder - I am a SAHM and I am nearly 24.

GeorginaA · 09/05/2005 20:32

More the merrier

And to think I was feeling a bit low the other day because I was thinking "may babies will probably drift off into other areas of the site now we're in toddlerdom..." and was so aware of how much I'd miss all the chit chat about how they're getting on Great to see new people in at the same stage!

I have been feeling really down that I no longer have a baby, we don't wasnt any more and he is so grown up now

Katemum · 09/05/2005 20:37

This will be my last now and I am feeling the same. Have decided that I am quite happy with the decision not to have any more but will so miss not having a baby.

Distel · 09/05/2005 20:41

I don't want another baby, It is that first week when even though you are exhausted you are so happy you feel as if you are going to burst.......... Oh - Its such a shame they have to grow up.

Thats what I miss

Katemum · 09/05/2005 20:44

Is anyone elses little one just on one nap a day? my dd has one hour in the middle of the day and that is her lot. Am very lucky that she sleeps well at night though, better than ds who has always been a bit of a pita with sleep.

Distel · 09/05/2005 20:57

DS has a nap at about lunchtime and that is it untill bedtime. He goes to bed with the others at about 7 and sleeps through the night untill about 7.30.

Judd · 09/05/2005 21:05

We've got 4 babies/toddlers coming for DS's party on Saturday...but each comes with an elder sibling in tow! Hoping for a nice afternoon so that we can chuck the older ones out in the garden with DH for hearty team games (he doesn't know this yet )
Have bought assorted knicknacks for party bags and that's about it so far. DH will hopefully make a cake on Friday evening whilst I dillydally around the Trafford Centre in search of a swimming costume. Must consult Trinny and Susannah to find out how I detract attention from caesarean overhang - matching accessories? Low slung belt?
Ooooh just remembered that there is a bag of Haribo in with the party bag stuff. Bet I could eat it all tonight.

Judd · 09/05/2005 21:05

Can attention be detracted?

spots · 09/05/2005 21:39

Yes Judd, especially at a party of toddlers with a bag of Haribo slung around your thigh. Am sure they won't notice your excess tummy at all!

DD still sleeps twice, but her morning nap is a biggy atm as she's waking sometime between 5 and 6.30. So she can go for 2 hours by ten, and then is fine until 4.30 by which time I'm loathe to give her any more than half an hour.

Nice to have news of Cat, thanks...

Helsy, I like the 'they'! Are you not one of 'them'?!

Welcome Distel and Kate! There is a Kate who pops in from time to time already.... I hope this is not going to be confusing...

spots · 09/05/2005 21:58

Sorry that sounds a bit unwelcoming - not meant to!

Katemum · 09/05/2005 22:00

I've been racking my brain for days now, trying to come up with a more interesting name and everything I think of is already taken
