JKS - glad you got through today ((hugs))

Sorry for being thick but how do you get meds down H? Is it liquid form I assume.

Hope it doesn't taste too horrid and make it traumatic for you to get him to take...

Is there side affects of the stuff he starts today?

Think you and your DH are coping remarkably well and should be very proud of yourselves

JustKeepSwimming · 07/05/2009 18:01

Midozalam could be right.

Think i will have to go round the corner for serious chocolate once the boys are in bed, lol.

The pharmacy have still not produced the drugs, grr, so dh waiting there. (they shut at 5.30 but he was still hopeful).
now we've agreed to get started, i want to get started IYKWIM?

Hoping the specialists will be able to translate the mri scans better - our doc is very good but he admits he's no specialist and that the local neuro-radiologists are more used to adults.

hey ho, if we need a ct scan then bring it on!!

(met a lovely couple with their ds (same age as T) with CP having an MRI for info purposes really, he was so cute! they have another ds, younger than H & N - the mum said the hosp wouldn't even give them a diagnosis when he was born as it looked so bad - but he was a sturdy lively near-3year old)

JustKeepSwimming · 07/05/2009 18:02

it comes as a 'syrup' hopefully won't taste bad.....

there are loads of possible side effects.
tiredness
hyperactivity
loss of appetite
increased appetite
hairloss
hairiness
...

getting the picture? bit of everything and opposites of everything, lol!

simpson · 07/05/2009 18:06

Guess its just a waiting game to see how he is on it...at least he starts with low dose and then it is upped if he needs it.

Has he had fit today?

M has done 3 "normal" poos today

Am now convinced there is a problem with oats or something in her baby porridge as we haven't given it to her since before she had sickness bug.

JustKeepSwimming · 07/05/2009 18:37

Simps - have you scrutinised the ingredients - googled anything unusual in it?

H has absence seizures every day, esp when tired. and the eeg showed that his brain is misfiring all the time even when he 'looks normal' to us
so that is all potentially causing damage that can't be left to continue.

no text from DH to say e has drugs yet so will have to put H to bed and maybe wake him for first dose later, grr.

simpson · 07/05/2009 19:26

Ingredients are: organic wholegrain oat flour, organic banana flakes, thiamin (vit B)

Going to try her with weetabix in the morning and see how she is with that....

Hope H ok on new meds but you are right guess he can't be left to not take anything if it is happening every day and could cause damage

madmouse · 07/05/2009 19:53

JKS just something technical about side effects to keep your mind off more dangerous things. The meds slightly supress the central nervous system which can make you sleepy/drowsy. HOWEVER in children it can go the other way - the central nervous system overcompensates and child goes hyper. It is called paradoxical hyperactivity. One thing to look out for - some meds (like the version of Nathan's phenobarbital that the GP once tried to get us to use) has tartrazin yellow in it - just about the worst colouring in the world for hyperactivity. Oh, and lots of alcohol.

JustKeepSwimming · 07/05/2009 20:05

Epilim ingredients:
Epilim Syrup - Sucrose, sorbitol, saccharin sodium, sodium methyl hydroxybenzoate, sodium propyl hydroxybenzoate, brilliant scarlet 4R, imitation cherry flavour, water.

will see what happens.

Dh got home in time to give H his first dose.
(& that my baby has any serious drugs indefinitely)
he has 1.38ml x 2 for a week
2.75ml x 2 for a week
3.5 x 2 for a week
then 4.13 x 2 forever....(or until he's heavier anyway)

Simps - all sounds non-offensive. weird.
get her settled for a few days, then give her some more and see?

madmouse · 07/05/2009 20:15

4.13?? that is weird. They should have given you syringes with the right amount indicated. They did for us anyway...

OP posts:
JustKeepSwimming · 07/05/2009 20:21

well we have various syringes, none marked though.
we have agreed on 1.4 for this week. that's doable with the 2ml syringe.

then 2.75 is doable with the 5ml syringe
and 3.5.

then we will have to mark a syringe at as close as we can manage to 4.13 and use that.

v weird though.
e must be a weird weight

Lilyloo · 07/05/2009 20:22

JKS a lot to take in.
Poor dh and you , that must have been terribly hard. Agree with the others you are coping terribly well. Guess you had to stay strong then when dp went for a cry ?

How did H take the med ?
Has T asked any questions , know anything ?
Have just tried to explain epilepsy to H with the little i know. Not easy. He said this month they can choose who to pray for to Mary who looks after people as it's her special month this month. Let's hope they work!!

Gosh Simps it really is a needle in a haystack isn't it ???
How is J being ? Me and L are really at loggerheads with each other at the mo. The sooner school comes around for her the better. She threw a shoe in temper yesterday which hit me and a hairclip today Sent her friends home and kept her in. Cue screaming fit for 30 + min!!!

He did go for the trial and the man said he would pass his details on to the academy. That was the last we heard. We not sure whether to push it or just leave it for now. His local team he plays on Sundays for is really picking up now. He is playing his first competitive match next week. And training begins on Tue too. So may just sit tight for the time being..

JustKeepSwimming · 07/05/2009 20:27

Lily - at least the sunday stuff is taking off so that's good. you may never hear i suppose but he can always say down the pub when he older about being scouted for professional footie

i had a mini-wobble just before Dh did but yes, couldn't have both of us losing it at the same time.

i keep having mini-wobbles anyway so it was probably good for him to have a cry - not sure he had before.

H took the med fine, must taste nice - though there is a sugar free version out there!
T has no real idea, he knows that H has not been well and seen doctors but then H has a cough and cold atm so may think that's what it's all about

T is going through a very defiant and belligerent stage too, but hard to tell if he's picking up on stress...

simpson · 07/05/2009 21:03

JKS - he could well be picking up on stress or just approaching the terrible 3's which I have found harder than the 2's

Lilyloo - Actually J seems to have calmed down a lot recently but TBH I think it is because I deal with his tantrums better now iyswim. I either ignore or do the "you have tell I count to 4" thing. Which is where M gets the counting from

Still not sure if he is ready for school yet, but I guess time will tell.

J's school have started an after school family club on Weds and we went yesterday which was really good. I knew a lot of other mums there so got to chat to them which was nice and to chat to his teacher about my concerns etc..

Pity M couldn't go as I didn't want to give other kids her bug but its good for younger siblings too as they learn about school environment etc...

J's school have got a lot of funding recently and are opening a family centre (like sure start) next month. Its what funded my course I did and will fund the keep fit class (and creche) I start this Friday

JustKeepSwimming · 07/05/2009 21:34

Oops

simpson · 07/05/2009 21:40

Hasn't gingeme gone on holiday??

simpson · 08/05/2009 10:12

Madmouse - hope Nathan's appt goes well

Well so much for lie in M has been very unhappy since 6am and has definately let the whole world know.

Think it might be tooth no. 9

JustKeepSwimming · 08/05/2009 12:12

Sun 3rd May from Gingeme:
"Just doing last bits of packing for our week away.
Realy hope your babys are on the mend real soon.
If I din't pop in during the week have a good one alll xxxx"

so yes she's away. well remembered!

Simps - hope M's tooth comes through quickly, it's so wearing when they're unhappy.

all okish here, H up at 5.45., so all up then obv as DH can't manage to come down with the boys and settle them in front of tv with drinks without creating a right racket (grr).
anyway i did get back to sleep eventually so had a lie-in

i went with T to playgroup while D worked from home.
when i got back DH was faffing about some 'new style fit' H was having but i didn't see any and he had to go out for a meeting so will have to get details later.

Have had an early lunch as H was starving.
may see what Dh is doing later, see if i can go out to an indoor play place with friends with just T.

Had a long chat with another mum who has epilepsy herself (well sort of, long story) so she went through all this at the age of 19.

rainy and windy here - got lots of laundry that i won't be hanging out!

madmouse · 08/05/2009 13:39

Well done JKS - can stop worrying about Gingeme now

Surely Lucky was meant to be back on today? No sign of her yet - hope she is ok.

JKS new type of fit?? Hope not??

Nathan's new consultant is an absolute darling - really nice man, impeccable patient/parent manners, taking lots of time. Very nice with Nathan. Also very happy with his progress. He will see him every four months for now.

LaTrucha · 08/05/2009 15:18

Hello all,

Well, we're here in Spain now. Nerves are pretty hyper in the run-up to the wedding. I find it all a bit screwy.

Have had a read.

JKS - I feel for you. You seem to be doing remarkably well. I hope that is true. I'm a great one for letting it all out, but it's both easier hard with LOs around to be cheerful for.

Madmouse - I'm glad you like Nathan's new consultant. It makes a huge difference.

Lilyloo - sorry things are tempestuous with L. Sounds like you're doing the right things. And with the football too. Glad the team doing well.

Glad the tantrums are improving. You'll have to counsel me later on!

I won't be aound much as we've got to set up new broadband once we get back but I will try and lurk whilst here so I can keep up.

Has anyone got Skytalk BTW? Any good?

simpson · 08/05/2009 16:11

Hi all

madmouse cheers for chat this morning things seem ok now

Have just got back from my exercise class and am totally knackered and a bit at how unfit I am!!

M was not too bad in the creche which was good.

Once class was over I had a half hour walk back so hopefully will sleep well tonight

JustKeepSwimming · 08/05/2009 21:01

LaT - good to see you. hope the family stressing about the wedding doesn't wind you up too much! enjoy your last few days there
not got skytalk here.

Simps = the exercise class sounds impressive! i'm too much of a lazy-arse!!!

madmouse - not new, just not what dh has seen before.
glad new doc is a good'un

off to bed soon, my turn to get up in the morning, yaaawwwwn!

Lilyloo · 08/05/2009 21:14

Simps i might see if our sure start does exercise classes with a creche.
I know they do buggy work outs but your lo's have to be under 1. Cannot imagine M sitting in pushchair for more than 2 mins tbh!
You'll be aching tom

My sis put M in the creche this am with her lo whilst me and L went to the hair dressers. M was fine but she knows the teachers as they the same ones at toddler group!
Took all 3 dc to a party tonight. Only L invited but had no one to look after the others. Didn't want to leave L as i never left H aat parties until he started school. But M was a nightmare. The mum let H join in and he even had a meal. She said she had to pay for minimum number so it wasn't any extra but was still .
Then M was a pain trying to get on all the play things when the others had to sit down and play games etc.
Just felt she wouldn't sit still for a second. Ended up taking her outside for a walk so left L AND H in the end.
Just felt like i couldn't cope iyswim. Then to top it all DP rang. Asked where i was had told him this morning. He said he would come and get M. He turns up in footy kit at 5.30 saying he is playing footy at 6 party doesn't finish until 6.15 so then leaves without M

.....and breathe

Just wish i had someone to help sometimes. And feel like L gets the short straw that H never got because i have M to deal with

Sorry all about me!

JKS 'new style fit' any more details ? Hope not!

LaT glad you got back to Spain safely. We have sky for telephone and broadband , it's fine.

MM N consulatant sounds lovely. Must make things so much easier if you have a nice consultant whom you can trust! And more importantly N likes

Lucky you can't still be washing

Gingeme · 08/05/2009 21:24

Evening ladies. How are we all?
I'm not even going to attempt to catch up sorry. Wheres MrsMcJnr when you need her ?
We had a brilliant time in Hastings. The boys were as good as gold most of the time. Spent far too much money and slept far to little. George enjoyed the freedom of it all. Nearly set light to the caravan though sharing his postman pat (which I won on the grabber machine) with the gas fire
Home now back in our flat. All the boys in bed by 7.30. Its good to be home.
I'll pop back tomorrow. Off for a bath then probably off to bed xxx
