Oh Sponge that is such good news! It is such a low rate for mc after this stage. I know what you mean about the reassurance and it being a mkixed blessing - I used to be so happy for about a day after my scans, then I'd worry again that something had gone wrong . Great news about the HB after what that stupid consultant said to you .

Sybil, MILs . They say the most stupid things don't they.

Five, thanks, it is SO tough at the moment especially when we go anywhere as E keep crying at any load noise when we are in a crowd and they just make so much mess when they are eating, it makes me not want to go anywhere! We were at my sister's yesterday and I had a hangover so not great! Feel better now though. They slept all night after some restlessness in the evening (I think the hour threw them and we'd been out for the day too) but once they went to sleep they were gone all night so can't complain.

Really must go and get them up from their lunch sleep now

Hi to everyone else!

systemsaddict · 30/03/2009 16:54

Go spongelet, great news!

abdn why do they always save things for Daddy? Caitlin pointed at dp and said 'Daddy' last night, the first time she has done pointing. She is saying 'mama' for me now, and it's only, ooh, 2 months after she started with 'daddy'! Bet she crawls first for him too. Am also slightly that he was in sole charge of them both on Saturday afternoon so I could get my haircut and they both slept for the whole time I was away!!

sybil I have had moments with my mum where I have had to bite my lip so hard as she started with the emotional blackmail on Liam - 'oh you are going to make Mormor so sad' - if he 'rejected' her aged a few months old ... ah well, I figure it can't be too damaging if they don't see each other that often, but required a great deal of patience on my part!

I am dizzy today and went to sleep at my desk combination of ear and sleep dep - it's horrid, feels like being pregnant again! (and no, I'm not!!)

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 30/03/2009 17:31

Sponge great news about your scan! I found I was far more stressed just before having a scan than I was at any other time. If I ever do it again I will try to avoid scans!

Amber Sorry your nights are still bad.

SA Sounds like you are having a really rough day, hope you are feeling better soon.

DS is also standing for a few seconds, he's been doing it for a couple of weeks but doesn't seem to have progressed much since he first started doing it.
Parents eveing tonight, I think I'll get told off for not writing in the childrens reading diary!!!

spongebrainmaternitypants · 30/03/2009 20:40

Neenz, I would try not to worry too much about the DTs making a mess when they go anywhere to eat - Alex is a dreadfully messy eater (have noticed this esp when we go out with other babies ) but I've just learnt to relax about it and try and clear up the worst if I can!

We've spent the afternoon filming for an IVF drugs company which has been really good fun - Alex, as always, was a complete star and sat silently on the director's lap for our interview, just taking everything in and looking at the camera and the sound recorder. The guys were v impressed with him - he did us proud!

Unfortunately, my day ended on a slightly bum note as work are refusing to back down so I'm only going back two days - it's not so bad but v annoying that I'm paying for my useless manager's mistake .

spongebrainmaternitypants · 30/03/2009 20:59

All those who 'fessed up to being lovers of maths, can you help me with this v trivial DOND question?!

DOND question

Thank you .

neenztwinz · 30/03/2009 21:08

Love the new name Sponge! Bummer about work but silver lining that you have more time with A. I don't worry about the DTs being messy, it is the clearing up that bothers me! Yesterday I had a hangover and was very tired so it made it x10 harder. Everyone else seemed to be having a really good time, chatting and relaxing and I just felt like I spent all day battling with the DTs (it wasn't quite like that but I was in a bad mood because of the hangover - it makes me not want to go out. Yes, I could just not drink but with all the best intentions that never really works out for me ).

I have had a lovely chilled day today anyway so I feel much better. They are just so much easier to care for in our own house. They are tucked up in bed now . Tho E cried herself to sleep (45mins ) but not just crying, she now screeches. I can tell there is nothing wrong with her, it's just a nice (to her) noise she has discovered so I was happy to leave her, but DH was hosting a church meeting here with about six people from our church. They all love the DTs but I bet it will be all round church now that E screamed the place down . Oh well, they all think the DTs are perfect which they are not so it's good that the illusion has now been shattered .

neenztwinz · 30/03/2009 21:27

I have never seen DOND so I have idea what that's all about!

poppy34 · 30/03/2009 21:30

glad today was easier neenz - edie now upstairs but I'm getting the medised out if she wakes up ..she has been really snotty and only slept for 5 hours last night cos sniffy.

sponge great new name - and alex sounds like he is a natural for the film.

Real life starting to bite as going into work to check out my work mates etc tomorrow as only two weeks to go...

DebInAustria · 30/03/2009 21:33

Just a quickie - Stefan's birthday here today, 9 years old and very excited.

Fantastic news about your scan Sponge

Rolf - lol at the storage and glad baptism went well.

Hope all those feeling poorly feel better soon,

mountain of washing isn't really getting much smaller yet, left mil with Ethan and the playpen this morning whilst NIgel and I went skiing for the morning - was a lovely way to celebrate 9 years of being parents - by having a morning without children!!!

libralady · 30/03/2009 21:48

OK I haven't been on in over 3 weeks and don't have the time to catch up. Can someone do a precis for me?

poppy34 · 30/03/2009 21:57

erm - sponge still swelling nicely, deb having trouble selling her place but happier now as cavalry in form of inlaws arrived, systemsaddict about to drop from fatigue, rolf has hosted a massive christening in between doing VAT returns, various people (incl amber neenz essie and ali) , lots of poorly people (like puree)
some discussion re size mattering (this seems to be particularly an issue for the boy babies ) and some marvellous babies can stand already

erm probably loads more but thats all I can remember

poppy34 · 30/03/2009 21:58

various people battling non sleeping babies meant to say...

Essie3 · 30/03/2009 22:33

Nice precis, poppy! You should do that at the end of every day!

Sorry, been a bit absent, but only because I've been busy what with being a real proper single parent: Tim left this morning, Mum and Dad have been away since last Thursday, and it's quite a shocker to be honest! Iestyn goes to nursery, but I don't speak to anybody!! (Still don't have an office...)

Except...my FIL, who totally annoyed me on the phone. I really need to take a chill pill, because everybody is annoying me these days. But this is why he annoyed me ():

  1. They had just been to Oxford and he clearly wanted to talk about that. I didn't really take the bait, but then he blurted out how hard it was to go to Oxford, and not call in to see their son at Jesus College. Er, he left more than 15 years ago, and he was speaking to me as if I should be impressed at The Son at an Oxford College. I was there - and from a non-privileged background, and being a woman!!
  2. He asked where my parents went on holiday, and I said 'the borders'. He said 'oh Hadrian's Wall'. I said no, the Welsh borders, and he said 'oh, I forget we have a few borders'. ????!!!???! Is it just me or is that weird and totally, I don't know, I can't even think of the word?
  3. Finally, in an attempt to be clever (which I am ) I said 'perhaps I should have said the Welsh marches'. He said 'like the Scottish marches'. (There is no such thing as the Scottish marches.) Then he said 'or the English marches, of course'. Which is...what??? (My masters is on the Marches. From a small college in the Midlands.)

Am I just annoyed because he's trying to sound clever but hasn't a clue what he's talking about and therefore is being smug and ignorant? Or is there a somewhat negative tone to his comments. (Is that word colonial? No, Empire, something like that?)

This is just building up - I've spent too much time alone!

p.s. not as much time alone as Sponge, though, starting a THREAD on DOND!!! With a little bit of eh Sponge, not seen it for months!

abdnhiker · 31/03/2009 07:40

oh good systems, if Caitlyn in talking then I don't feel bad about Fraser standing DS1 didn't say a word until 18 months so I'm expecting Fraser to be similarly delayed.

sponge love the new name!

neenz I'm amazed you manage a night out at all - I haven't been out past half eleven since Fraser was born and I don't drink more than a glass of wine anymore I just can't cope the next day if I do.

happy birthday Stefan Essie it's tough on your own - I'm hoping your week goes well! I think your FIL is just being an smug idiot - but not trying to be offensive. Therefore being annoyed is okay, but don't take it personally!

abdnhiker · 31/03/2009 07:42

poppy I'm back in four weeks at work - it's coming up very fast. 11 months felt like forever, I can't believe it's almost over! I'll hold your hand if in two weeks you hold mine...

FiveGoMadInDorset · 31/03/2009 07:59

I have discovered that 2 adults, one baby and a 3 year old do not fit in a king size bed so off to the sofa at 2 this morning I went.

abdnhiker · 31/03/2009 09:10

hope you slept well on the sofa at least...

FiveGoMadInDorset · 31/03/2009 09:26

YOur FIL sounds a right hoot Essie

Sebastian has a new name now. Mummy's Little Stalker to be know from henceforth as MLS.

spongebrainmaternitypants · 31/03/2009 09:42

Neenz, yes, that is what I'm telling myself - one more day with Alex and I won't be there long anyway. IKWYM about feeling more comfortable in your own home and I only have one to cope with! I have a feeling that once spongelet arrives in the Autumn I won't be venturing out half as much as I do now!

Deb, I skim read your post as "left Ethan in the playpen while Nigel and I went skiiing"!! Glad to see the MIL was with him !

Excellent precis poppy and lol at the size matters more for boy babies! No complaints on that score here!!

Essie, it wasn't really DOND, it was the maths that was confusing me - that's my excuse anyway . And lol at your FIL getting all colonial on you - he sounds like he's just being a bit of a pompous arse, it comes with being English sometimes cos we just know we're superior and can't help pointing it out!

AH, you don't need to feel bad about Fraser standing you daft thing!

5, hope the sofa was comfy .

Thanks for all the comments about my scan, and my new name.

poppy34 · 31/03/2009 09:50

ah deal re hand holding etc - just hovering now before getting ready to go in..had complete brain melt about what to wear etc and have had friend cancel lunch on me (that said I could go baby free shopping instead )..am sure it'll feel like I've never been away.

nanny taken e off to play group as wants to start introducing her gently to it. Luckily she slept through ok (E not the nanny) without the aid of medised..

second the standing v.walking here - as I said e very slack re physical milestones, but LOVES to chatter and copy you (wonder where she gets the chatty side from ).

poppy34 · 31/03/2009 09:51

essie your FIL sounds like a tool ...my mil does same thing re my bil and cambridge and even had cheek to say to me "but it must have been easier for girls to get in...."

FiveGoMadInDorset · 31/03/2009 09:52

Happy Birthday Stefan

But don't confuse MLS with TOS (the original stalker AKA the dog)

Next lot of sheep are coming in today so will take pictures and stick them on my profile.

AliandHerScallywag · 31/03/2009 09:56

Sponge great news about the scan. Like the name too.

Essie sounds like you are in for a tough week. I am going to brave here and say that you might be being over sensitive about you FIL. He sounds as though he is trying to find common ground between you on the Oxford thing. Rather than just showing off about his son having been to Oxford maybe he thought he could talk to you about the trip because he knows that you went there too. The other stuff he said sounds like awkward bluster. This is based on my experience with my FIL who doesn't talk to many women my age and defintiely has found it tricky making small talk at times. His approach is to be a bit provocative which is actually his way of showing that he thinks I am alright and can take a bit of teasing (infact I take teasing q badly). Obviously I don't know your FIL, so I could be wrong, but I would try not to take it personally. It almost certainly isn't intended to have the impact on you that it has had.

Five - why the new new acronym for DS?

spongebrainmaternitypants · 31/03/2009 10:10

poppy, lol re your nanny sleeping through!

My union rep has just sent a fantastic email to my line manager saying how disgusted he is at my treatment and it makes a mockery of our family friendly policies! Don't you just love unions!!

poppy34 · 31/03/2009 10:13

cool thats good news sponge

right sitting here all dressed up missing Edie but also relieved that she is not here to accessorise my work outfit with some dribble
