Ali - Did you go to Hatchling (sp) park?

DebInAustria · 26/04/2009 21:59

Libra - nice to see you popping in.

Ali - bluebell woods sound lovely

Essie - glad the wedding went well

Abdn - how was your busy morning?

I've had a busy day too as dh was ill today - fluey symptoms , but he's not been anywhere near Mexico!Mil hasn't been well and has just admitted to sil that he has a red patch on her leg, which is troubling her and sounds to me like it night be thrombosis, so sil has got to drive over and get her to A+E. Waiting to hear the news from them now.Times like this I hate living overseas.

AliandHerScallywag · 26/04/2009 22:08

Penguin - Confused for a moment there. Do you mean where did we see the bluebells? We went to Chantry Woods which is just on the edge of Guildford and is very low key. I also meant to say earlier thank-you for posting a positive story about wearing glasses.

Deb - hope DH and MIL are ok

Libra - Hello, and also hope that your DH feels better soon

This week I am going to try going to bed early, and it is already 10 minutes later than my self appointed "lights out" time.

Night all.

abdnhiker · 27/04/2009 07:52

essie much better for him to sleep upright in it than precariously propped up against a wall like my DS1 ended up all the time!

deb I survived my busy morning and then collapsed all afternoon. DH finally managed to drag me out of the house for a little walk around the neighbourhood! Hope your MIL is okay and that your DH makes a quick recovery.

glasgow & edinburgh people... We're off down south (everyone but Josey will laugh at my definition of south) tonight as DH has a meeting in Lanarkshire for his application to get British Citizenship. (The first of many it seems). Anyways, we're sleeping in a travelodge in Falkirk so he can make it to his appointment for 9am (would be a three hour drive from Aberdeen and there's traffic...). Then we'll have the rest of the day. What should we do? Edinburgh zoo? I'm tempted to go to Ikea

abdnhiker · 27/04/2009 08:15

admission to the zoo is £14 each!!!! okay, I need cheaper ideas! Remember I'm a cheapskate here (and money is tighter than normal at the moment)!

vivaGlasvegas · 27/04/2009 09:00

If you're staying in Falkirk, they've got the Falkirk Wheel?

Or the Wallace Monument in Stirling. Stirling castle is meant to be nice, but I think it's expensive.

We went to the zoo the other week, and it is very good. You can get a family ticket which is a wee bit cheaper I think?

It takes a lot to beat IKEA though...

DebInAustria · 27/04/2009 09:20

Morning

Dh a little better but had a rough night, Libra - how's your dh today?

Mil has been admitted with cellulitis, a severe skin infection, apparently her whole leg was red, and she'd had it since Friday but hadn't wanted to be a burden to anyone so hadn't mentioned it.At 1.00 this morning at A+E sil pointed out to her that she would have been far less of a burden if she'd told her on Friday.

DebInAustria · 27/04/2009 09:21

Also tried to order flowers to be delivered to her, the hospital said it doesn't allow flowers because of infection control - is that normal in the UK now or just that hospital?

whinegums · 27/04/2009 09:41

Essie, PMSL at you being 'unnatural'. Oh go on, tell me where you got your well reduced Zapp from...

Aberdeen - what about Kelvingrove museum? It's free, and if you fancy it, they have the Dr Who exhibition on atm - I can't wait to see it! - but you do have to buy tickets for that. I love Kelvingrove... Half decent cafe, pretty good facilities, parking, buggy friendly, Sir Roger (the elephant) - what's not to like? It's also v close to the Museum of Transport if the boys like that sort of thing, and Kelvingrove Park for a walk. Indoors too, weather looks a bit rubbish this week. I love Edinburgh Zoo, but I think it's better if the sun is shining. Ikea - only one step up from NCT sales if you ask me! A necessary evil!!

I would suggest meeting tomorrow, but we have swimming in the morning, and I've got an appointment tomorrow afternoon. Bah!

Deb, sorry to hear about your MIL and DH.

Nice to see you Libra and Penguin.

We're giving up Waterbabies too after this term - two classes left. B hates being put under water, but likes splashing around, and I can do that with him myself. Added to which, the lessons have gone up, so I can't justify it any more.

Rolf · 27/04/2009 10:26

It's interesting to hear all the comments about waterbabies. I did it with DD1 from about 4 months and she loved it - best baby activity I'd ever done. Then she got a run of bad ear infections just after we'd paid for a new course, and we missed all but one of the course and when it's so expensive that's just so galling. It rather put me off doing it with Thea, and I didn't find the new teacher very inspiring either. Also (adolescent saddo alert) I feel too embarassed to get into a swimsuit

Penguin and Libra nice to see you both

Deb hope your mil is better soon. Horrid you being so far away.

I'm so tired after the week of being up all night with Thea. She's very much better and is sleeping better, but I'm exhausted and rather down. I have period pain and DH and I are having one of our periodic falling-out where we hate each other.

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 27/04/2009 10:40

Rolf I hope you and your dh start liking each other again soon.

Debs I hope your dh feels better soon. I really feel for you MIL. My mum had cellulitis in her arm thanks to a canula she had put in while in hospital, as she was still an inpatient it was noticed quite quickly and she made a fast recovery. One of my friends had it on her lower leg and it kept flaring up over the course of a few months and she even had a pair of shoes she had had ro buy in a bigger size because her foot also swelled up. Hope your MIL gets it sorted soon.

The NCT sale was great! Busy but some great bargins. I bought DS an Urban Detour three wheeler for £30 including the footmuff. It has bearly been used and he looks really comfy in it, perfect for the school run and walks around town. Also got two new onelife nappies for £4, and some clothes for a £1 a piece. I wish I had discovered the sales sooner!

Rolf · 27/04/2009 10:48

Thanks Going. Forgot to say it was nice to see you, too! Good news about your girls, too

josey · 27/04/2009 13:28

abdnhiker · 27/04/2009 13:30

we just realized that Lanark is right next to New Lanark www.newlanark.org/ so we'll go there. Thanks for all the suggestions - DH is a engineer so he insisted we go to the Falkirk Wheel when we were on holiday pre-kids. Duncan loved the transport museum last time we went and Stirling Castle has been a hit in the past so they were all spot on! (Which means I'm writing down the other suggestions for the next time we're in the area).

abdnhiker · 27/04/2009 13:35

josey glad to hear things are (slowly) improving! Have fun tonight!

poppy34 · 27/04/2009 13:56

Quick post mainly to mark my place - thanks for swimming advice (ah am impressed with your swimming prowess ) - swimming people have left a message anott rebooking so need to sort it. josey food Oli better than she was and hope tonight is fun(beats watching the final of hell kitchen). Sorry to all those with poorly family -nit heard the flower thing deb. anyone else finding they are getting to one nap a day - edie not dropping off in the morning although gets very grumpy

AliandHerScallywag · 27/04/2009 14:23

Ooh, just seen a photo on fb of Essie at the wedding. She looks very glam. The fascinator is fantastic purée

Essie3 · 27/04/2009 15:22

Hahaha, thanks, Ali! I put on proper make up and everything! I wasn't sure I'd remember how to...

abdnhiker · 27/04/2009 16:25

Essie you look great and I love the hat puree!

Rolf · 27/04/2009 16:31

Great pic Essie . You look lovely (so does your DH!). Beautiful church, too.

pureeandpearls · 27/04/2009 18:45

Thanks all- all my hats are available for hire at very reasonable rates. Essie did look very glam, I have to say, that the hat was a mere bagatelle (French thrown in for Poppy)

Very envious of swimmers- every time I contemplate it babypearls gets an ear infection.

Delighted to hear from Penguin and Libra. Big smooches to you both.

Josey- great news about Oliu and have a good tyime tonight- that sort of think scares the bejeepers out of me.

Lots more to say but babypearls has spotted the laptop and is keen to bash away. Must divert her with Charlie and Lola.

TTFN.

Marking my space too - this dropped off my list. Hi everyone, hope all are well and happy. Packing for me hols tomorrow but I will try and write womething a bit more meaningful.

Ali, I had to wear glasses for longsightedness and they were curative and only took 6 months before my eyes were 20/20 FYI!

Essie - what did you do about the bow on your dress?

Essie3 · 27/04/2009 20:00

Aw, thanks everyone - I was all anxious and having paranoias about being Obvious Woman Who Just Had a Baby (although struggling with the fact that 'just' doesn't apply any more - the time has flown!). The hat really did it.

Amber nobody appears to have noticed my wardrobe malfunction... I did without, because between traffic and panic, there was no time to get anywhere to get a replacement bow thing. It would all have been even more fabulous with it!

neenztwinz · 27/04/2009 20:41

Hi all, nice to hear from Libra and Penguin. I'd love to post a vid of the twins chatting but as soon as I get the camera out they stop, look at me and start posing!

Yes Deb, banning flowers is common in hospitals here now, when my gran was ill there was a flower ban at her hospital, but my friend who just had a baby was in a hospital where they are allowed.

The swimming chat has made me feel better too, as obviously I can't take the twins for lessons on my own. My MIL has offered to come with me but TBH I just can't be arsed. Me and DH took them when we were in Wales last week and I really enjoyed it and they did too but I have no inclination to take them for proper lessons cos it is just too much like hard work.

Right, I'm off to check out Essie's wedding outfit!
