Oh darling PJ. How is she now? Does she have any signs of a urine infection? A fever apart from the bug over the weekend? Poorly tummy? Pain on weeing? Grumpy? In a child of L's age it would be extremely, extremely unlikely that she could have a UTI and you not see some ongoing clues to it.

A toddler shivering with a fever is actually a very useful thing. It's the body's response to a temperature that is rising rapidly. It's a visible cue that your child's temperature is rising and a warning to keep an eye on it. It is not abnormal to shiver with a fever at all and it is certainly not a reason to suspect a kidney problem in isolation. If she had other symptoms of a kidney problem/UTI then perhaps you could link the two. So your aunty may be right in that respect but it is not a cause and effect situation.

Look at it this way. While it is extremely unlikely that she has any underlying problem at all, the results of the tests will put your mind at rest definitively which for an anxious mother is a lovely thing isn't it? A piece of paper from a GP saying 'no abnormalities detected'.

I also suspect that the GP isn't testing because he thinks there is anything wrong at all. He is testing because a mother has come into his surgery, told him that an A&E nurse has suggested this link and his professional integrity means that he has to order the tests. It is not an indication that he believes L is poorly.

Switch off your anxiety for a moment, look at how L is now this virus (that's what it was you know) is out of her system. Is she normal and happy? Do your spider senses tell you that there's anything wrong? If your aunty hadn't said that, if she hadn't had a bug over the weekend, would you even question her health for a second? I suspect not.

I can't take the anxiety away but I can reassure you that it's very unlikely L is poorly. Keep focussing on L and how well she is and not the potential for illness that probably won't materialise.

And give her a big cuddle from me.

ShowOfHands · 28/04/2009 12:06

And I am absolutely not ignoring any of you, only came on in a rush to virtually stroke PJ's brow. I am thinking of you all and will be around more soon.

And yes, I did split an infinitive there. No, I don't apologise for it.

Hello strangers..tis I, the longlostscootini...

im never going to catch up am I..gorgeous pink filled me in on the jist at the weekend..

Have missed you all but have not had time nor energy to get on..Work has been epic.DH fractured his ankle and could not move (allegedly) which has meant I have been doing EVERYTHING at home...Gin again I do salute you when DH is away (lets face it-when he's there with your gang) because my God I have been on my knees with it all!
I fell asleep at some temporary traffic lights at one point.Ga ga!

Melodramatic, moi?!

Pink looked ruddy gorgeous when I saw her.I feel quite huffy about it all.I was torn between terrible envy of her and terrible all consuming envy of Cheryl Cole, whom I have major crush on.I did have a lovely time with her though.

I have put on half a stone in 4 weeks (as have been comfort eating majorly)I have a wedding to go to on 16th May.I need to lose it by then.To this end I have pinched my Mums bike (which she never rode once).I am going out on it tonight.I am.I am.I am going to have to rid myself of my aversion to any exercise. And to this end, I am going to plonk Mae in the buggy and walk to pick up Lily from Pre school.

I will have a skim through now and see what you have all been up to..

Congrats I believe are in order to lovely Charley..

Pinkjenny · 28/04/2009 14:11

I can categorically say that Scoot does not need to lose weight. She's bonkers.

I know, Cheryl is FAB. I couldn't take my eyes off her.

AprilMeadow · 28/04/2009 19:22

Scoot definitely does not need to lose weight!!

largeginandtonic · 28/04/2009 22:39

Hi ladies

Apologies for lack of phone contact, my cell is dying. It keeps cutting out and turning off, playing silly buggers. Have just ordered a new one online.

MrsJB hooooofeckingray! What great results news. wishing the very best for your dn, she is a fighter

AM fab news on the girl!

TYG hope dh stays positive. Your running is super impressive.

Scoot lovely to see you

Long day here. My brother is fantastic, looks great and recovered well from the local. The skin graft from under his arm hurts more than his head. I am so relived. Results to follow in 2 weeks i hope.

They just biopsied me so no great shakes.

The twins dad texted just to add to the fun. Wants to see the boys erm noooooooo. Am now living in fear of him appearing again. As if i am not stressed enough.

Indie restless, probably my fault for being unsettled all day

Glad it went well lg&t....

Dn came out of op the fighter she went in, surgeon reckons he got it all! So still hopeful. We know they often come back though.

PJ how's things? L any better?

Oh before I go, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TMAM. Have a lovely day xxx

Pinkjenny · 29/04/2009 10:28

Mrs JB - that is absolutely fantastic news, I suppose you have to take it day by day, and this is a good day! Love to you and your family.

She's a bit pasty to be honest, washed out looking. She's also not sleeping terribly well at the moment, which I think is the reason why she looks a bit pale. I honestly think she is cutting her back molars, so am trying not to panic , but am going to start giving her vitamin drops, I think.

Just had a look at the Top 2009 Baby Names so far this year, and am horrified that Alexa is number 4!!

Happy Birthday TMAM!!!!!

Pinkjenny · 29/04/2009 10:31

LG&T - great to hear the op went well. Love to you too.

charleymouse · 29/04/2009 18:01

Hi all sorry for going AWOL. April gave me a prod earlier, congrats on finding out you have a girl in there, have a good time in Florida, after I got off the phone I ended up vomiting all over, I had my staff ID badge round my neck and it deflected it all over the blardy bathroom. Have had terrible S&D been off work and pooing in pots not nice. Have just been curling up in dark room and feeling sorry for myself. Have not even been Mnetting. Have lost 7lbs in 10 days, am nearly at target weight just not for right reasons.

Spotted PJs news though, congratulations sweetie well done.

LG&T glad all okay with DBs op fingers crossed for biopsy any clue how long for results.

Tilly hope you are all okay and no more bleeding.

Glad all ok with DH and DN op went well MJB

TYG hopefully just the threat of it will gee them up to deal properly with DH.

Hi Jam, Meggle, Lydle, Abby, SOH,

Hi Scoot sorry to hear about DH leg, thanks for the congrats.

Hi TMAM Happy Birthday, anything nice planned? Any sign of Ellie?

Good luck with the interview SKY.

Hello anyone I have missed sorry am not on the ball at the moment.

All went well at the scan and there appears to be just the one, MW apt this week and she seems lovely as well, no reason why I cant have a home birth this time round but she says we can make decisions as pregnancy progresses. So quite pleased with that.

Take care all and will try harder honest.

SKYTVADDICT · 29/04/2009 21:42

Oh dear Charley - hope you begin to feel better soon and good news on the prospective home birth.

Good news Mrs JB for your DH and fingers crossed for DN.

Glad your bro got on ok LG&T and fingers crossed for him also.

Congrats on the girl AM and hope you have a lovely time in the USA.

I think I already said congrats to PJ but congrats again if I didn't.

Happy Brithday TMAM although it is nearly over!

I don't have the birthday spreadsheet so does anyone have a list.

My dad is making C a cake and we are having a little tea party on Monday I think. Decided not to buy him anything until after we see what he gets.

Tillyscoutsmum · 30/04/2009 12:59

Charley - so glad the scan went well and hope you feel better soon

MrsJB - so glad all is ok for your dn and dh

Hi to everyone else

Pinkjenny · 30/04/2009 13:12

Charley - so lovely to hear from you. I do fret about people when they go awol. I would love a home birth, but think my hysterical paranoia makes me a less than desirable candidate. Still weighing up the VBAC option, despite the fact that it is clearly too early to contemplate. I am tempted by the fact that the lovely Lulumama lives very close to me though. So pleased your scan went well.

Tilly - I know all your news anyway, but am looking forward to hearing your scan report soon too!

Sky - we're doing the same thing, just having a tea party, although dh has invited lots more people than last year. I will have to swear all my friends to silence as I wasn't strictly supposed to tell anyone about the pg.

I am feeling fine, lots of those hideously nerve-wracking stretchy pains, and very mild nausea and tiredness. I have told quite a number of people (not family), as I can't hold my own water, but it constantly horrifies me how people just assume that you will mc when you tell them at such an early stage. Some of them are mortified that I have told them!

L is OK, still a little pasty looking, and we are trying in vain to get the sample from her! I am OK, just wish people would stop overeacting to everything, it doesn't help me at all.

Pinkjenny · 30/04/2009 13:13

overreacting

lydle3 · 30/04/2009 15:33

Hi Ladies,

Just wanted to let you know that i went to my colposcopy clinic appiontment today. it went ok, def CIN3, had hoped her may have said it wasnt as bad as they first thought !
Anyway he did 3 biopsys !!! yikes ! sent them away to make double triple sure but he doesnt expect them to come back with anything. So can continue with pregnancy (I Hope) 10 days for him to get biopsy results, so three weeks for me !

I had hoped to come away feeling more relieved, but didnt really, anyway the news could of been worse. no bleeding since, so thats good also.

Pinkjenny · 30/04/2009 15:34

Lydle3 - good news. Hop on over to the Due in Dec 09 bus too!

lydle3 · 30/04/2009 15:34

he may

lydle3 · 30/04/2009 15:36

he may

lydle3 · 30/04/2009 15:37

I am clearly useless, at emphasising my mistakes, so going now to surf on the free sanitary towel from the hospital

largeginandtonic · 30/04/2009 16:57

Good Lydle! I am glad they took it out and he is keeping a close eye on you. Just remember i had tons of bleeding after my colposcopy, huge clots and pain too. Indie was just fine

Sky how are you feeling now?

Pink have Lulu as you doula, she is fantastic! I wish i could hold your hand through it. Alexa will be fine, it takes them a while to get over it.

TMAM what have you done today?

I took dd1 to her podiatry app, she is a medical marvel that child. At every app we discover something new. She has hypermobility, scored 9/10 on the flexibility scale! Who knew. We are off to a recommended shoe shop on Saturday morning as she needs new school and play shoes so she can go back and have inserts to make her positional tallipes correct. It wont ever be perfect but will hopefully help her with the way her foot absorbs the shock. Currently it is uneven and giving her some leg pain.

B and H are lucky to be alive, they have both behaved appallingly today. What with the terrible two's and testosterone surges i am seriously worn out.

At least i'm not pregnant though...

OP posts:
lydle3 · 30/04/2009 17:05

Thanks LG&T,

didnt take cells away, just did biopsy. That will wait till after.

DD3 is hyper mobile, she has special boots peidro (spelling?) they are quite cute, imagine victorian baby, but a bit trendier. At the mo she has red !!

I have seen a girl at school, who is DD2's age(10) with the same boots, did they not recommend these to you ? Maybe insoles is enough ? DD3 has insoles in her boots as her ankles are not aligned properly, if in July they are no better, she will have callipers ( but new more modern version )

Phew about pregnancy . . . i think

Themasterandmargaritas · 30/04/2009 17:21

Thanks for all your birthday wishes. I had a lovely day yesterday and night out with some close friends, followed by a girlie lunch today. I also got some lovely presents, mainly due to the fact I went into the shops in advance and enlisted the help of the assistants in pointing dh in the right direction.

Great news about your bro LG&T, your darling niece MrsJB and for you lydle hopefully!

Charley I'm so sorry to hear you are still feeling sooooo yeuky, poor you. I hope it eases up soon.

I hope L is a bit perkier today Pink. J has also been off colour with a sore throat and a rash, which helps explain why he was up and down in the night for a couple of nights running. Now every time anyone sneezes I am going to be going on a swine flu panic....

about the lack of pregnancy LG&T oh fertile one.

MKG · 30/04/2009 18:56

I'm back!!! I have internet!!!

OMG Pink I take it a congrats is in order?! I've skimmed but am not up to speed if there so.

Anyone else with news, because I don't think I have the time to catch up.

MKG · 30/04/2009 19:05

LG&T--I'm glad you're not pregnant. Anymore and you're just showing off

Well my update. Unfortunately I got my period last week. So I think that explains a lot of my crazy hormones. I'm bfing full time though so I don't know how it was possible and am feeling a little cheated.

Dh and I are still having problems. He's been saying that he's unhappy, and the other night he actually asked me what we would do with the children if we split. Apparently he wants the boys and I'd keep the girl and that would be it. I was like "uhhh, no, they're a package deal"

So here I am with a crazy marraige, and all I can think about is how happy I am to be back with you all.

AprilMeadow · 30/04/2009 19:27

LG&T, you crazy lady! Am so pleased that it was a negative result.

MKG lovely to have you back. Sorry you are still having problems with dh. at him wanting the boys and not the girl........ I hope things work out for you.

TMAM, glad you had a great birthday and got some nice things.

Pink, I hope L is much better today and that you are feeling well.

Charley, i hope that you are feeling more human today and that your preggie sweets and roller ball thing arrived ok.

MrsJB, am so sorry that i havent mentioned your dn. I am very pleased all went well and will keep my fingers crossed that she goes from strength to strength.

I hope those of you celebrating babies 2nd birthdays between now and the 22nd have a fab day and you all enjoy yourselves.

Will try and get online whilst away xxx
