Happy Birthday Ella bells. Have a lovely day and enjoy all of Mummys yummy party treats.xxxx

Lg&t, they said two weeks that was a week ago today. I'm pleased you will be able to go and support your brother though with his. Is it quite sizable? they normlly only need to do a skin graft if they must remove a large area. A's is on the inside of his foot, funny place but much easier I think than the face. I'm sorry.

Peppa pig is a godsend if a little disturbing annoying.

SKYTVADDICT · 10/04/2009 13:54

Happy Birthday Ella.

Sorry you are feeling rough Charley. Its hard but worth it in the end x

Another vote for Peppa Pig here and Callum has also discovered Fireman Sam and will just stand and stare for ages

AprilMeadow · 11/04/2009 10:21

Thanks for the birthday messages. Ella had a fab day and was a very lucky girl. Lots of lovely pressies and surrounded by lots of family and friends. I think we had 37 people in the house at one point yesterday . Most of the food went which was good - still got about 20 cookies left though
House looks like a bomb has hit it - fun day of blitzing ahead of us. Also someone opened the blue playdoh and squished it into the cream carpet in Jack's room - not impressed

Boiler packed in yesterday morning so had a day and night without heating and hot water, thank goodness we have a dishwasher! British Gas came out this am at about 8.45 and fixed it - was the fan or something very small.

Hope you are all having a lovely weekend x

twelveyeargap · 11/04/2009 10:52

@ cream carpet in Jack's room. What on Earth possessed you? Shouldn't it be some sort of patterned pub carpet? Xmas Grin Glad the party went well. Sounded like a roaring success.

LG&T, I am so sorry for your brother. I have everything crossed for him. Likewise to you MrsJB. The waiting must be appalling.

Congratulations to Tilly and to Charley. I'm thrilled.

I have had two "big" weekends in a row and I swear to God I am still suffering the effects of sleep deprivation. You'd think I'd be used to it by now, what with having two small children. Out again tonight, but I'm not staying out late. Part of me is saying "It's not worth it," and part of me is saying, "Don't give up!". DH and I both decided to take it easier though, because it's not fair on the kids if we're grumpy and hungover. Mind you, there's an all night rave on at Ally Pally tonight. There was one this time two years ago and it was really, really loud. Kept me awake all night and not for the right reasons.

So envious of your safari TMAM. It's the one thing that DH has no interest in doing. He'd love to go on holidays in Asia or South America but for some reason has no interest in visiting the African continent. Will just have to come and visit you on my own. How is the running going? I've been skiving a bit on the shorter runs, but making sure I still fit in the long one. I have to do 9 miles when DH gets back from boot camp and it's raining. Boo. Incidentally, whoever said I must be like a rake by now is sadly mistaken. I have only just broken the 11 stone barrier and back in a size 12 from most shops. (Not River Island though, who make clothes for children, not women. Should have known better really.) Down 20lbs since mid-October. It's been slooowww. Probably better that way, but would probably be faster if I stopped wrecking all my good work with pig-outs.

DH's friend in the car business has finally managed to talk DH into getting a "good" second hand car instead of a "cheap" one. He's going to sort out cheap finance instead. I'm so relieved. I'm going to have a car that has a warranty and which is not going to have bits dropping off it every other week. Will also be able to put both children in the back from the pathway instead of having to stand in the traffic with O's car seat. I will come to see you, LG&T, without the fear of it breaking down at the side of the M3!

I wish they'd make some more Peppa Pig episodes. I have seen every one about 6 times. I am currently seeking a new diversion for A.

JamInMyWellies · 11/04/2009 22:54

Crap somehow we have mice in the attic of all places! aarrgghh.

AprilMeadow · 12/04/2009 08:21

The cream carpet was a good idea (and looks lovely) because all arts and crafts stuff is kept downstairs, but somehow playdoh made its way up the stairs.

JAM ewww mice - do you want me to send Rascal over, she is good at catching things and will even eat them for you

The kiddies are very excited this morning as the Easter Bunny did visit last night He must have received our note about sweets&books rather than chocolate so that J could have it. Jack was bouncing around and was so chuffed that he had so many goodies that wouldnt 'make him naughty' Dh & I on the other hand only got one each (and thats coz I bought them )

HAPPY EASTER xx

AbbyLou · 12/04/2009 09:12

Happy Easter everyone! We are back and I survived a few days in Skegness. The kids loved it but we spent a fortune entertaining them. Everything is sooo expensive in seaside places isn't it?
AM glad E had a nice birthday, hope your carpet comes up ok. We have cream carpet in our lounge, it was here when we moved in, and it needs a serious clean.
Sorry you are feeling rough Charley. I will have a look and see what I can find re dd's reading. In the meantime, if you go to www.sparklebox.co.uk and click on the Letters and Sounds section you will find loads of resources you can print out. This is the site we use to get all our resources for teaching the first phonics. The Phase 2 phoneme cards are in the order they learn them at school so s first, then a etc. Also the high frequency words are useful to learn.
LG&T hope your brother is doing ok and gets the treatment quickly.
The Easter bunny definitely visited here. The kids have a mixture of chocolate and other surprises. We are off to Calke Abbey today for an Easter Treasure Hunt. Hopefully the weather will hold out.

twelveyeargap · 12/04/2009 16:17

Sorry April, that must have sounded rude. I didn't mean it that way. I'm sure it's gorgeous. I just get the fear when I see pale carpets and think about all the times my kids have been sick on the floorboards! Hope the playdoh comes off. Hasbro say to let it dry completely, brush it out, vacuum and NOT to wet it or use cleaning solutions. A stain remover should take out any colour stain once the mucky bit is out.

I was in Skegness once, Abby. I think I was about 9. I bet it hasn't changed much! Chips and minty peas. That sort of thing...

AbbyLou · 12/04/2009 16:48

TYG that is about it for Skeggy!
We went to an Easter egg hunt at Calke Abbey today and it was lovely. C was so cute running about in the woods searching for nests with eggs in it. They both got another Easter egg as the prize so now we have even more chocolate in the house!

largeginandtonic · 13/04/2009 08:32

Hullo all

We have had a peaceful few days here, minimising trips out as B is so hard to handle atm.

Had a friend and her little boy over for lunch yesterday, her dh is away for 6 months on deployment She has had a run of sickness (both her and the baby) since he left and has been feeling the pressure. It has been a shock to the system having to deal with it all alone. It is so hard when there is no one to do anything for you. She has the most goegeous lab we took for a walk yesterday. She is hugely entertaining and has me laughing alot, ghosts were topic of conversation

I pick the kids up tomorrow, dd1 has her eye appointment Weds and will be put on the squint op waiting list. The twins have their counselling too, one weds and one Friday. Next week i have doc app Monday morning as i have changed surgery.

Brother has surgery Tuesday and me my second colposcopy. I have my wisdom tooth out Weds evening and dd has her mental health app and podiatry app that week too. DH is way at sea on and off for the next few weeks too

Too busy for anything else, B will be a nightmare. My lovely mil is going to help out though.

Abby the holiday sounds lovely. That website is fab!

AM the playdoh!!!! Noooooo. How is the baby bump? Has all the sickness gone yet?

TYG i am going to weigh myself in a mo,it is going to be baaaaad i know it. I will be eating alot less whe dh is away though and will be rabbit food all the way. I must make an effort it is getting me down. River Island are no friend to the big thighed lady Even at an 8 in Next i am still at 12 in there! Phooey!!

OP posts:
AbbyLou · 13/04/2009 08:43

LG&T I don't know how you do it, all the rounds of appointment after appointment. I wouldn't know whether I was coming or going!! Glad you liked the website, we use it all the time at school but I think it's useful for parents too if they want to do some work at home with their children and need colourful resources.
I posted this on health but I'm not getting much response so wondered if you guys could help. Two weeks ago R had oral thrush which I treated with daktarin. It went away. For the last week she has had an awful rash which I thought was nappy rash but none of my usual nappy rash creams are getting rid of it and it doesn't look like a typical nappy rash to me. Do you think the two could be related? Can babies get normal thrush and if so would it manifest itself as a rash like that? I don't know whether to try a thrush cream next. I know I really need to get her in at the drs but they won't be open until tomorrow and then it will be a mad post-bank holiday rush for appointments. Any ideas?

AprilMeadow · 13/04/2009 09:28

Blimey LG&T that is one busy schedule you have there!

Bump is coming along nicely thank you. Am 18 wks today and dh felt bubs kick last night for the first time Sickness is 95% gone, only get it if i have over done it or havent eaten anything for a while. Scan is 2 wks today

Abby sorry cant offer any advice, but didnt want to ignore your question

twelveyeargap · 13/04/2009 09:30

If the nappy rash won't go away after a week of treatment Abby, then you probably need the doctor. I learned this the other week with A. Try Metanium for now; even the doctor recommended it to me as the best over the counter remedy, but A's nappy rash was infected. Sort of looked hot and bumpy. Babies can get the candida/ thrush infection in the nappy area so whether it's related or not, get it looked at.

The doctor gave Canesten HC cream and Fucidin anti-biotic cream first, but when it didn't go away after another week (and she then got infected excema too) she got oral antibiotics. The Canesten HC was fab, but is only on prescription I believe.

SKYTVADDICT · 13/04/2009 11:55

AL - we have the same problem with C and his nappy area. Going to ring GP tomorrow to see if we can get an appt. The bleeding stopped after a day in the air but then he got another bumpy and brigt red rash round his bits which looks very sore. He does say ow ow ow when we are changing him but even the air drying doesn't seem to get it to go. Metanium takes the redness away but leave like a really dry lumpy rash!

LG&T, your schedule would just leave me standing. I think ours is bad enough!

DP has just taken C to the park. He is really mad with my mum as she has been to visit this morning, walked in and said "nice house". He really had to bite his tongue but I think she knew he was cross. She is so strange. One minute she understands why we live in a tip and another she just has a go and says we need to get more organised and stop being so lazy . When we do get on top of things she still only sees what we haven't done - like having brown stained tea cups. WTF!!

AbbyLou · 13/04/2009 12:34

Sky at your Mum. I hope she does know you are upset.
Thanks for tips re rash. We have been using Metanium for a week now and it's not shifting. That usually works for her. Looks like I'll be trying to get an appointment tomorrow.

largeginandtonic · 13/04/2009 13:17

It does sound like Thrush Abby, try canesten and do a doc trip just to check. If it is Thrush it will clear up quick using the canesten.

Sky your mum needs to be left with all the children and the house for a few days to have a wake up call.

I have just put a furious B to bed, he shouts "Noooooooooooo" at me all the way up the stairs. Thsi used to be his one redeeming feature, his ability to go to bed for about 2-3 hours in the day with no fuss. Please god let it be a blip because the children are away.

Indie is sleeping in her cacoon, she loves it! I am very pleased with the P&T. TYG how often do you use the Tandem? I can't wait for you to visit, we can have a lovely beach walk

AM next time you come we should do that. Only 2 weeks till scan day omg! Names so far?

Well i stood on the wii fit and to my HUGE relief i am 11 and three quarter stone of blubber not the 12 stone 8lb i was a few weeks ago. So a stone to get back to pre Indie weight and 1 and three quarters to pre B weight.

SKYTVADDICT · 13/04/2009 13:29

I like all of them AM.

The trouble with my mum is that she has a short memory and also a mouth that speaks before she thinks

She had one day with C whilst DD2 was in hospital and declared she doesn't know how I do it!!

largeginandtonic · 13/04/2009 13:37

I like Finn, Noah and Samuel for a boy and Daisy, Lucy and Imogen for a girl

My sil has just phoned saying my nephew has started refusing the bottle, he has been exclusively bf but she was expressing. She stopped giving him a bottle when her cracked nipple mended and now he seems to have forgotten!! She was hoping to settle him in with the CM in te next few months as she goes back to work in September. Little monkey, any suggestions?

OP posts:
twelveyeargap · 13/04/2009 19:42

NUK 1st Choice Bottles with latex teats to re-introduce the bottle, then onto Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature once they get the hang of it again. I found the NUK were closest to feeling like skin, but the teats collapse when they suck hard. You still need to give it a few goes, but it worked with both O and A.

MmeJaffaB · 13/04/2009 22:01

Definately a latex teat....... silicone is just too difficult for baby who needs to use different muscles taking a bottle to being on the breast, they need something a little softer to get used to the differnt sucking rather than chomping action.

Hope your precision plans this week go to time lg&t. Safe trip tomorow, bet you are looking forward to them coming home.

Sky, Mothers.....who'd have em?

Abby, sounds like you had a nice few days break anyway.

AM I like:
Megan, Caitlin (H would have been Caitlin if he was a girl) Rosie, Imogen. I thought you were already quite favoring one of these from our previous discussions a while ago? Samuel, Finley/Finn for a boy, definately not Matthew!! (they are very naughty always) How about Charlie?

AprilMeadow · 13/04/2009 22:14

lol MrsJB - have changed my mind AGAIN. I think the girls name is sorted and dh has picked a boys name but the jury is still out on that, even though it is on my list. Will reveal all in 2 wks

Off to bed now - going to get a lie in tomorrow as the kids havent written my card yet so need to do it before i wake up

AbbyLou · 13/04/2009 22:47

I like most of your names AM.
Mrs JB, why Charlie with a wink? Mine is gorgeous!
We've had a lovely day today doing jobs around the house and mainly garden. We spent most of the day in the garden tidying it up. I weeded while dh dog over the kids veg patch then C and I planyed onions.
We had mil and fil round for a roast dinner which was nice. C and I made an apple crumble so I'm feeling very pleased with myself. I've never made one before and I couldn't believe how easy it was and it tasted yummy!
We've got the same planned for tomorrow really as dh is off again. We are going to the library to change the kids books and we need to go to Specsavers to order C's prescription sunglasses. He's never had any before but the sun really bothers his eyes so we said he could have some this year.

AprilMeadow · 14/04/2009 08:18

Because my surname would make him a cartoon character who has dog called snoopy

AbbyLou · 14/04/2009 09:13

Oh of course sorry!
Well I tried ringing the drs for R this morning and in half an hour every appointment had gone. They have a late surgery on Tuesday so she could offer me 8pm . I declined as she will be in bed by then! I have to try ringing back at 1.30 for an appointment tomorrow morning!
