AbbyLou · 06/04/2009 08:20

Sorry , meant to ask. Did any of you lo's have a check up with a hv recently? I seem to remember C having one about 18 months but R hasn't seen a hv since she was about 13 months old! I was thinking of taking her to the clinic today to be seen but thought they might think I am a crazy neurotic mother! It just seems a bit dtrange that no-one ever asks to see children. You can see how children slip through the net.

Tillyscoutsmum · 06/04/2009 08:29

Abby - I think we get one around here when they're 2. I think the hv sends an appointment/letter through as a reminder but not sure

Hope you enjoy your Easter holds

MrsJB - hope everything is ok with your dh. I've had a couple of dodgy moles removed a few years ago so know how scary it can be Will keep everything crossed

Hi to everyone else. AF is due at the end of this week so am trying to avoid testing until as late as possible ! Somebody hold my hands down please

Themasterandmargaritas · 06/04/2009 08:36

Tilly - just say no to testing Fingers crossed.

Here's hoping the news is good for dh too MrsJB.

Blimey I forget how many eggs kids in the UK get for Easter, we are lucky to find any here at all. I am just off now to the sweetie to shop to see if I can find a couple that the Easter bunny can deliver on Sunday in the middle of the Maasai Mara as we shall be on safari.

Abby I'm sure your local clinic will be delighted to see R, weigh her and give her a once over. I don't think you are being neurotic at all, there is no harm in popping in. Enjoy your holidays.

SKYTVADDICT · 06/04/2009 08:57

AL - I am also thinnking of going to clinic today. I feel a bit abandoned by my hv tbh although probably being a bit silly. I have been struggling with the two little ones but am just about seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and hv hasn't been in touch since L was tiny. I suppose they leave it to us to contact them if there is a problem but if people are really struggling then its hard to admit it!

C been brilliant all weekend doing his business on potty but today we are going to try wearing pants as well. We did try once or twice over the weekend but he always wet them.

Sit on your hands Tilly until at least the day before you are due - fingers crossed for you x

AbbyLou · 06/04/2009 09:08

I don't know how you do it Sky. And potty training as well! I do think hv are a bit of a strange idea. They see you when your baby is tiny and then that seems to be it. When we lived in Derby our hv worked ubder the Sure Start umbrella and were a lot better. here it's seperate. My hv I had when R was tiny has retired now so goodness knows if any of the others are still there. I know they won't know me from Adam. We see it all the time when little ones start our Nursery at school. Parents have had no input from health professionals since their baby was small and they've got no idea that their child has problems. Also, the worse side of it when parents can get away with doing anything to their child until they start Nursery and the teachers spot things. Anyway, enough doom and gloom, I think I will go today. Even if it's just to get my two out of the house and C away from Nick Jr for an hour or so!
TMAM I'm sure the Easter Bunny will find you. If you need anything sending, let me know. I know it will be a bit late but better late thean never!
Tilly don't do it!! I was terrible for that but I did know I was preganat with R the day after. I just knew. I just had to wait to confirm it.

SKYTVADDICT · 06/04/2009 10:28

I think we have a sure start childrens centre opened up in town and would like a bit of info about it as I hear they do a music class for free and I have just signed the boys up for one I pay for. Clinic is this afternoon so think I will go, as you say, just to get out of house.

I am not potty training by choice AL! C had a bleeding bottom at the end of last week and the pharmasist advised staying at home with no nappy on. Unfortunately Fortunately C seems to have taken to it! That leaves me very pressured into keeping it up!

AbbyLou · 06/04/2009 11:21

Aaah bless him, bet he's getting lots of relief now.
Well I went to the clinic and to be honest it was a complete waste of time. The hv I saw said 'oh you look familiar, did I visit you after birth?' I told her no you didn't but I teach at Parklands Infant School (she does a drop in there for parents after the Nursery once a fortnight). Then, about three minutes later she asked me what I did for a living?? WTF? Was she not listening to a word I said? Anyway, it transpires that the old 18 month check up was moved to 2 years but round here they have now changed it to 2.5. She said I will get a letter when they want to see R, we will wait and see!
They used to do some brilliant things at the Sure Start near me. Loads and loads of groups and classes. When C was small I did baby massage, went to a story group, singing group and new mums group. Everything was free.

SKYTVADDICT · 06/04/2009 11:43

Sounds like she was crap AL!

I will report back on my trip later.

I think the check is 2.5 years here too.

AbbyLou · 06/04/2009 16:11

Hope it went ok with hv Sky and that yours was more helpful than mine!
Why is it, when I am free to post whenever I like, everyone else buggers off. Maybe everyone is trying to tell me something.....

MmeJaffaB · 06/04/2009 17:44

Abby now you just know thats not true.... I think it may have more to do with that whilst you are on holiday we have to deal with the buggers at home!!! tskkkk school holidays....it's only the teachers who need a holiday! Now you do know I'm joking don't you?

Thanks btw for the reminder on the health checks. We have an obligatory check before 2 yrs here to ensure our child benefit payments. I have booked Js now.

Sounds like C is doing great SKY!

AbbyLou · 06/04/2009 19:14

Yes I do know you're joking, or at least I hope so!! Tbh C was really ready for a holiday this time and he only does mornings! He was shattered on Friday.
Strangely the kids have been really good today, it must be the calm before the storm. Tomorrow they are off to the farm with grandparents and dh and I are spring cleaning. Can't wait!

AprilMeadow · 07/04/2009 08:18

Morning ladies

Just wanted to say a belated happy birthday to little Arlen who was 2 on Sunday (just in case lupins is still reading the thread)

Had a manic weekend at the Touring Cars @Brands Hatch. We had a great weekend and even scored points

Am now in full on birthday mode as we have so many birthdays this month its not funny! My sis is today followed by Ella, Me, various friends and family and then Jack all in a two week window!

Going to start baking a few bits for her party tea on friday but cant decide what to do - too many yummy things to choose from.

MrsJB I hope all is ok with A's foot/mole

Tilly DO NOT TEST

ShowOfHands · 07/04/2009 10:17

Was coming on to catch up, write a long post, converse with my dear friends etc.

Unfortunately, I clicked on fb first and my news feed links to a lovely picture of the pretty AM as taken by her dh. Said picture is surrounded by a lot of pictures of ladies' bottoms. Said bottoms were not encased in much material. Is that what you wear to Touring Cars because I was quite looking forward to seeing you at Snetterton but my sensibilities are a-quiver?

AprilMeadow · 07/04/2009 10:39

Oh yes i was wearing a vest and pants for the rest of the day - NOT! It's awful, the grid girls are either showing 90% flesh or poured into their outfits - not good for self confidence when looking a little podgy!

Tillyscoutsmum · 07/04/2009 12:42

AM - I think my dh may be a touring cars fan for that very reason

Still not tested - boobs are tingly though and... and... and.... funny taste in my mouth... and numerous other symptoms which I am more than likely imagining. It took ages with Tilly so I can't imagine for a second I could get a BFP so soon this time..

Themasterandmargaritas · 07/04/2009 13:20

Oooo Tilly. I have to admit that 2nd and 3rd time around, like Abby, I just knew even before testing.

What a lovely couple of weeks for you April.

We have guests, so it's chaotic and we are planning a long safari to Masai Mara to camp and I have had to deal with the utmost frustrating rubbish African bureaucracy in two seperate places today and crap long traffic and my internet ran out and....and...and.. my legs ache from too much running.

SKYTVADDICT · 07/04/2009 13:25

My lovely tidy and clean house looks like a bomb has hit it - oh well back to square one!

Frustrating isn't it Tilly? - sometimes you do wonder if you are imagining things! Fingers still crossed for you though. When can you test?

I have looked the piccies now AM. I suppose they do get paid for wearing next to nothing, but still!

Where did Lupins go? Sometimes you get so mixed up in every day life that things just pass you by? Does anyone know?

Tillyscoutsmum · 07/04/2009 13:53

AF due Friday - I am usually pretty regular. I think I might test Thursday morning. I would normally wait but need to know this month because I'm on a spa day on Saturday and would have to avoid/change some things if I get a BFP....

TMAM - am so incredibly of your safari. I went on once in Tanzania when I was about 20 - still one of the best holidays of my life. I loved it

AbbyLou · 07/04/2009 16:49

You're doing well Tilly, keep holding out. I'll keep everything crossed for you!
Sky I know what you mean about the house. DH and I are having a massive spring clean today as the kids have got a day with their grandparents. The problem is, I know as soon as they are back it will be a mess again.
We went into Derby this pm to buy Ruby's kitchen for her birthday. I know she'll love it, she's such a girl!
TMAM hope the rest of your journey goes better.

largeginandtonic · 08/04/2009 08:48
