Seeing as it's a quiet time...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
libralady · 21/10/2008 11:51

Amber Most of the supermarkets do the sleeping bags in their children's departments for around £10. And Primark do them for £6 but obviously not very ethical.

needahand · 21/10/2008 12:03

booh I feel left out, I have disappeared from debs list and from the list alltogether .

We are facing a new crisis here. Both DH and I have strong reason to believe that our neighbours are drug dealers. So now DH says he wants to move again as he doesn't want to take chances with the DCs. I only just finished unpacking a minute ago! So now I am faced with the prospect of spending the last two weeks of my maternity leave viewing houses

Rolf · 21/10/2008 12:17

Hope I'm doing this properly...

No sign of Thea sitting up yet. What's the tongue-thrust thing people are talking about

needahand · 21/10/2008 12:21

ali I bougt a wrap carrier too today. I went for the kari me and I soo wished I had bought it earlier. SJ who weight 15lb feels as light as a feather when the baby bjorn was killing my back. Amazing

HH mstery shopping sound impossibly glam to me (sad I know) it is like unleashing you inner james bond. I have always wanted to do that.

Also forgot to mention SJ slept until 4.30 last night (I didn't because I was wondering what happened to him, wondering when he would wake up and thinking of the neighbours). I hope he will do it again!

5 go mad how funny, my daughter is eleanor mary too!

needahand · 21/10/2008 12:22

have been a bit of a dramaqueen (sorry DQ for borrowing your name) I am back on the list!

Rolf · 21/10/2008 12:23

Oh Needahand, how crap for you. What makes you think they are drug dealers? How high up the criminal food chain are they? I would really struggle with having to move house right now.

debinaustria · 21/10/2008 12:39

Another vote for the 2nd list too.

Amber I have a 2.5 tog bag from Asda - £10 I think

Rolf - good luck with the parents evening

Needahand - sorry to hear about your neighbours crisis, understand the need to move but I don't envy you.

needahand · 21/10/2008 12:43

Well when I first moved, I was feeding SJ in the lounged and the neighbour kept looking to see if I could see him which I found odd.

Then last week I came back after collecting DD and there was this very weird looking guy waiting on the neighbour's doorstep, the kind that you wouldn't want to walk past too in a dark alley one evening. The neighbour didn't let him in but did some business with him on the doorstep. I didn't hang around because he had set his rotweiller outside and I was keen to get the DCs in the house as I could her the rotweiller rummaging near the trees that are separating our properties. My immediate thought was that the neighbour was a dealer.

I didn't say anything to DH

Then yesterday DH looked like he had something on his mind. After quizzing him for a bit he said that he thought the neighbour was a dealer as on Saturday he saw some strange looking people going in and out in packs and going out some of them worse for wear (and they didn't stay that long).

Also they live in a really nice residential area where the houses are really pricey and they don't work so we were wondering how they could afford it.

Of course it is just our impressions and we don't have any proof but if you put everything together + the fact that they have a rotweiller and a security camera to watch who is at their door, it seems to kind of make sense. Their might be a completely rational explanation but DH says he won't take the chance.

What do you guys think? Are we utterly bonkers?

debinaustria · 21/10/2008 12:55

sounds dodgy to me

Upsidedowncake · 21/10/2008 13:09

sounds dodgy to me. Are you renting or do you own? Can you call the council? (You don't have to leave a name, I don't think.)

needahand · 21/10/2008 13:15

We are renting. We thought about calling the council or the police, but we have no proof and I am worried they would suss it is us and send their rotweiller or their other equally scary looking dog onto us. We might take the coward way and call once we moved though.

Rolf · 21/10/2008 13:22

That does sound worrying. Do you know who owns the house (get office copies from the LR)? Anonymous call to crimestoppers? Police or landlord giving them grief would mean you could keep out of it.

PiggyPenguin · 21/10/2008 13:52

Its sounds very worrying. I would definitely move if you can do so. Why take the risk? Actually just the sound of the dogs would be enough to make me move, I hate big agressive dogs and having them running around in the garden next to my kids would be really scary for me.

Libralady - I hope I didn't miss you off, if so, I am really sorry and it was definitely not intentional.

On to a nicer subject, what are you all buying the lo's for xmas? I need ideas, and I know a few of you are good at virtual shopping...

pleasechange · 21/10/2008 15:43

needahand sorry to hear about your neighbours, what a bummer when you've just moved. I think it sounds well dodgy and if it was me I'd want to move (sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear)

sybil I've got A some stacking cups, stacking rings, books so far. Other ideas are lamaze fish bowl, rainmaker, little drum. I know I shouldn't get too much, but my excuse is that I haven't bought any toys since he was born, and this lot will do until his birthday when he can get the 12 mths things!

spongebrainbigpants · 21/10/2008 16:21

Amber, I'm so shocked at that weaning thread - chocolate buttons and custard? Weaning at 11 wks? Wow! There's me losing sleep over whether I should introduce some puree at 18 wks!

I have to say that from the spelling and grammar in some of those posts, the posters appear to be a little, how shall I say it, cerebrally challenged?!!!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 21/10/2008 16:58

Sybil a weaning bowl and spoon and a wooden hammer game from ELC as Edie broke hers and is great. Not much as won't know what is happening.

pleasechange · 21/10/2008 17:02

Do you think those weaning posts are for real - chocolate buttons???

PiggyPenguin · 21/10/2008 18:10

I'm thinking of getting this as his one present as ds1 had the version from 7 years ago and loved it, it is still doing service in the garden!

Parofleurmapu · 21/10/2008 19:10

WARNING RANT ALERT: Why is it people have to comment when im out with FLeur in the sling Oh isnt she squashed up? Is it comfortable for her? Wont she fall out? Yes thats why ive put her in there!!! GRRRRRRR Ok RANT OVER

Needahand - not nice we think something dodgy might happening over the road from us too bit of a party house

liking the xmas suggestions keep them coming!!!!

Sponge- hehe re your comment bout thread i joined a board on there too when preggers but didnt post much cause i thought that too not that im lady muck or anything but not much in common with them. And re 11wks i know i was worried bout weanning fleur at 18 weeks too

Sybil - love that cool, but we only have patio but suppose she could go down promenade on it

Ok bedtime looms back on later

Amberc · 21/10/2008 19:28

Sponge I know what you mean but I didn't dare say anything for fear of not being PC! I tested Luke today with a spoonful of baby rice and he still has the tongue thrust so it just all fell out! Guess he's definitely not ready yet! Going to test him again next week until I can see he's actually got the ability to eat food!

Needahand - you can confidentially call crimestoppers for advice. Have you got a safer neighbourhood department at the local police? It sounds like they are not making it too difficult for people to suss so it could be anyone who shopped them and the rozzers could have been watching their house for ages anyway. I am always one for calling the police when I think there is something wrong.

Amberc · 21/10/2008 19:33

PS after spening a fortune on grobags I have found loads on boots.com for 4 fifths of f*ck all. What an idiot!

hedgehog1979 · 21/10/2008 19:58

Evening all,
I have a boast - took Isaac swimming again and finally found the courage to duck him under the water. I had been really worried coz when he has been splashed before he hasn't been to impressed. Silly me, he loved it, looked a bit when he came out but did it again and he laughed when I took him out.

Question now - has anyone elses LO got any excemza (sp)? I think Isaac has got some under his chin but neither DH or I have it so wondered where he has got it from. Also can I ask the HV about it or do I need to see the GP to get him to pescribe something?

Re grobags have got a catalogue through the post this am from Bump to 3 who are offering 20% off all 'grobag' products at the moment.

Needahand no suggestions 'bout your neighbours but at least you do have the opportunity to move due to only renting. Have had loads of trouble this week (and its only Tuesday) with parking as in our v small cul de sac it appears 3 of the 15 houses have got new 'tennants' coming in this week and there is NO parking, and also they do look less than desirable, and this is on top of the house full of kids who like to party in the streets at weekends argh

weaning I have read a couple of threads on other parenting sites and am shocked at (a) the spelling and general level of education on them and (b) the moderaters/site admins at allowing this kind of irresponsible 'chatting' to go on (sound a bit preachy there)

Right back upstairs for more mystery pizza shopping!

needahand · 21/10/2008 20:05

Thanks all, at least I don't feel like we are paranoid people that are a little loopy. I don't want to move because of the hassle but for all the other reasons, I agree with DH that we should.

amber I probably will call crimestopper or the police, but I think I will probably move beforehand. On the plus side, I saw quite a nice property today, bigger and a little bit cheaper.

Sybil re Xmas, I think I will buy SJ a train, I saw a fisher price one with animals I think it is call the musical train or something. I think that rocker thing looks great though. But obviously I am not organised for Xmas and can't believe it is in two months!

debinaustria · 21/10/2008 20:19

I agree Sophie - Ethan doesn't need much this Christmas as he'll be unaware but the problem is that his older brothers aren't unaware - i.e they still believe in FC, so how do I explain that Ethan only has some spoons, a new bib and some stacking cups? Won't they think that FC is being very unfair? I suppose I could write a letter to them from FC explaining about his policy on presents for babies under 1!!

So those of you with older children - how are you getting round this?

Just adding myself! Good Idea for the list Essie! I often forget/wonder how old LO's are.
Been away for a while (did you notice??!!)lovely holiday in St Ives and we where blessed with lovely weather. Isla slept in the travel cot really well, better than at home in fact! Which gave me the courage to move her from the dropside bedside cot to the other side of the room. Sleep has been a bit up and down bu in general a bit better
All this talk of weaning has got me thinking...Im not going to start as soon as DD1(19 weeks) think I'll wait till she seems up for it. Got the 'Annabel' bible out today though to start reading up.
Re Christmas presents, I'd been thinking of a wooden bricks truck. I know she wont be up for pushing it at 6 months, but a couple of months on and she prob will. I know DD1 had something similar and LOVED it for a long time.
Rolf - whereabouts in North Liverpool are you? I was brought up in West Derby and my mum still lives there.
Needahad...sorry to hear that your area may be a bit dodgy. Come and move to Bath! Its lovely here! Are you still up for a meet up soon? Maybe the week after halfterm?
I hope all else are doing fine....dinner calls.
