Seeing as it's a quiet time...

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
hedgehog1979 · 07/11/2008 08:28

morning all,

Know it is early but I want a bit of a rant.

DH is off work today and has told me that he wants a lie in, and can I keep Isaac quiet so he can get some sleep. We were going to go swimming as a family today but I think I might just take Isaac and leave the miserable bugger at home. I did say to him when do I get my day off? and he rolled over and started snoring.

Does anyone else have this prob with their other halves? or am I just unlucky?

am [grrr] about this now so nothing else from me, I shall attempt to come back after swimming when I will be in a better mood (hopefully)

aberdeenhiker · 07/11/2008 09:22

hedgehog I'd be very annoyed unless DH had arranged to let me sleep in the next day! My DH is good at mornings as I let him sleep downstairs (and therefore through the night) whenever he feels he needs a good night sleep and he knows how much more rested he is than me!

DS1 is better from his flu bug so we need to get out of the house today! Yesterday was the first day in ages I've not had fresh air.

Neenztwinz · 07/11/2008 09:29

HH, yes, you should get your lie-in tomorrow (or next time he is off). I think it is nice to give each other lie-ins (tho your DH didn't go about it in the best way!) I am not surprised you are annoyed.

My DH is off work next week . Will do some christmas shopping and we're having a portrait done (someone bought us a sitting when the twins were born).

FiveGoMadInDorset · 07/11/2008 10:30

Just back from Docs, and S is now on lactose free formula to see if vomiting is milk intolerance, if that doesn't work thn it is of to paeds.

whinegums · 07/11/2008 11:24

Morning all, feeling a lot better today - probably because I went to bed at 10 last night, so even though I was up during the night, I did get some extra sleep. And I'm also looking forward to my friend coming up for the weekend. Thanks again for supportive messages. Oh, and another thing that made me yesterday - I was buying wine in M&S, and the checkout girl asked if I was over 21!!!!!! By 15 years I am!!!!

Katyjo, I'm on the waiting list for Waterbabies (they didn't get my email a few weeks ago, so good job I rang them) if I get a choice I'll go to the same class as you, but will have to wait and see what, if anything, is left.

5gomad, hope you get the vomming sorted. Since B has been on Gaviscon and ranitidine he is a different baby, but it sounds like S has something different.

Paro - am at vanilla flavoured baby rice - go and post that on the weaning forums if you dare!!! If you want some stuff posting from over here, I don't mind doing it for you - or I don't know if you could order stuff online? Anyway, just a thought, if you want to, you can CAT me.

Hedgehog, sympathies on DH - I think they don't realise just how hard this is. My DP doesn't really help me either; he works so much, and also has his two daughters every Sunday, so it's a time thing for us. When he is around I make a point of leaving B with him as much as possible!

Amberc · 07/11/2008 11:26

HH - sympathies. I don't think partners realise that we never get a day off and we are on call 24/7. Saying that the nursery stints do help. Have just had a bath and I feel great (a bath is a major treat for me).

Five - hope the new milk helps poor little lamb.

Neenz - I just gave Luke a couple of weaning spoons of baby rice mixed with apple puree that's all. Literally two spoonfuls.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 07/11/2008 11:33

I would just like to say that my DH is fantastic, yesterday I had an awful afternoon, he cam home and sent me upstairs for a bath and break while he looked after DC's.

Neenztwinz · 07/11/2008 12:41

Amber, how old is Luke? Try him with some sweet potato - mine love it!

Parofleurmapu · 07/11/2008 12:47

Hiya all

Just back from swimming and rehab, i can feel it working, got drs appt this pm to see how it all is.

5 go mad - fingers crossed that helps, and DP is fab too We also take it in turns to have pre ordered lie ins!!

Amber - I agree thought i was going to hate fleur going to nursery but actually enjoying the me time even if it is swimming and rehab. Maybe hold off on weaning then and see what happens a few weeks down the line'

HH sorry bout Dh personally i wouldve kicked him out of it i want Dp up which is is good at i take fleur in she starts gurgling and that normallly wakes him!

Whinegums thanks might take you up on that have meaning to get CAT sorted out so when i do ill CAT you, dont think will venture on weaning thread though as prob will all think i think its fab or something itll all go wrong, but then again it could be a laugh i do like ready some of those threads and seeing how silly they get oooh No paro reminds herself that its not worth it!

debinaustria · 07/11/2008 13:03

Hi everyone - if you think vanilla flavoured baby rice is bad you should see it here - banana flavour, muesli flavoour, chocolate flavour and straciatelli(sp?choc flakes) flavour ...and an amazing array of fruit juices for 4 months plus!!!!

Paro - glad the rehab is working

HH - kick him out of bed on his next day off

Amber- how are the nappies today?

Allipalli - where are you?

Amberc · 07/11/2008 14:42

Debs - nappiesa are still bad - Luke had a change of clothes on when I collected him and had pooed everywhere - even on his socks! Neenz I think I am going to stick with milk for a few weeks and see if his poos go back to normal again.

Paro - what rehab is it - like rehab for Amy Winehouse?

alipalli · 07/11/2008 16:51

Thanks for missing me. Sorry - I've been AWOL for over a week.

We went away to Wales last Thursday with two other families, then P and I went on to my parents from Sunday to Wednesday. Since we got back I haven't even managed to to lurk, so I'm not up to date on the thread. However here is a brief update.

Bit of a mixed trip. The first bit in Wales was lovely. We did some nice hill walks in the Brecons, above the snow line, so Peter has seen the white stuff for the first time. However one of the other babies in the group came down with a bug which Peter then picked up from her. So by Monday night he was coming out in a rash which didn't go away when a glass was pressed to it causing a bit of a meningitis panic . Anyway, it wasn't meningitis, or mumps or any other well known childhood disease. On Tuesday I took him to my parent's GP. Poor Peter had a temperature of 39 degrees. The GP was fantastic and very reassuring and said that it was a viral rash which tied in with what the baby that my friend's baby had caught it off had been told. So Peter has been on calpol since then and we are sitting it out. We got back home on Wednesday and DH was very shocked when he saw Peter for the first time in three days by just how spotty he was. I have taken a photo maybe I will post it if I get more organised. Typical that this would happen the first time that DH and DS have been away from each other.

Today Peter is definitely getting better, the rash is lass angry, but he is still covered in it. No temperature for two days, but still quite grumpy at times. All social activities have been cancelled: swimming, NCT coffee. This virus hits adults too, so DH and I have been feeling intermittently rubbish. On Monday I thought I was excessively tired, but eventually realised that tiredness doesn't normally cause all my joints to ache. Yesterday and today I have had a cracking headache. DH has announced that he has a rash on his arm today...

Nothing else to report here, I guess that's enough for now. I will attempt to catch up on the thread over the weekend. Hope that you and your LOs have had a better week!

bitofadramaqueen · 07/11/2008 17:18

Just waving at everyone to mark where I've read up to!

aberdeenhiker · 07/11/2008 17:48

alipali -eek! what a trip. I hope you're all feeling better very soon.

deb - we're off to Germany in four weeks visiting German friends and they're very excited to introduce Fraser to the wide world of German baby food. They had their two kids here and were shocked at the lack of options. Banana cereal sounds great...

I tried Fraser again on cereal and he wouldn't eat it. He loves opening his mouth for a spoonful but he just plays around with it in his mouth and spits it out. I'm a bit as I'm realizing he needs more food than I can give him (without being up all night). Last night he took 140mL of formula 20 minutes before bedtime and then a full breastfeed. We then had a good night with him only up at midnight and four to feed.

I'm guessing my milk supplies are low and his hunger is high in the evenings. Today I've managed to pump 90mL of EBM to mix with the formula but it's such a hassle that I might just stick to formula to supplement the evening feeds. I'd rather feed him formula+cereal and skip the bottle altogether (too lazy to sterilize) but we're not there yet.

hedgehog1979 · 07/11/2008 18:02

thanks for all your comments, glad I am not being unreasonable, Have told DH that the next time he is off (after Sunday, which doesn't count as I have to get to a remembrance parade for Guides and he has to get to the Scouts one) after I have fed Isaac I am having a lie in and he can even bring me a cup of tea in bed (in the correct mug, inspired by this thread)

ali that sounds horrendous, I don't think that I am calm/collected enough to deal with something like that happening to Isaac at the moment. Am also at being able to go fellwalking. Have not done nearly as much as we would like since moving south - we used to be in the Lake district or Scotland every weekend when we lived oop north

Have started my hunt for a CM today, got a list of phone numbers to start on next week....means returning to work is coming even sooner

Parofleurmapu · 07/11/2008 18:42

Oh alli Hope Peter gets better soon. Watched The peoples hospital last night and scared myself silly!!!

Amber- wish it was!!! or do i! Nope its for pelvic floor muscles and stitches I had 22 and mostly internal which are causing me grief so i go Mon wed Fri rehab and swimming. Without TMi i do exercises and internal massages which DP has also been taught to do!!!! (uhhmm strange kind of sex life at mo!!!)

Ah- sympathies with you on milk thing one of many reasons why i started weaning Fleur and think my BF days are really over now as she only feeds at 7am and 4 am now and even then at 7am she is still hungry and wonder if thats whats wrong with her sleeping. Thinking im going to have to give up which is devastating for me more than i think her. Hope you can yours sorted though

HH I have a mug which is only for my tea is enormous and i will only have tea in that one as the others are all too small!!

Well off to bath Fleur and put to bed she is currently screaming at Iggle piggle!!!

Oh and my ellaroo arrived it is absolutely fab did get some looks down in village!!they thought i was the mad english woman before i had fleur god knows what they think now
Thanks for the recommendation I love it

whinegums · 07/11/2008 19:35

Paro and Deb, I double dare you to create a thread on the weaning boards about 'wonderful' European baby rice! Gowaaaarn, you know you want to!!!!

I'm a mumsnet pariah now anyway, I gave B baby rice today - he's 18 wks on Monday. He was just feeding and feeding and I was feeling like I had nothing left, so I thought sod it, we'll see what happens. I mixed it with ebm, and my goodness, it went down a treat, every last bit, accompanied by lots of smiles. Had to resist temptation to give him some more....

Ali, that does sound like a bit of a week, hope it clears up for all of you soon.

B is in bed, so I'm going to have a bath, get my jammies on and open the wine ready for my chum arriving - shame she's not turning up til 10, but at least I feel I might even see midnight tonight!

debinaustria · 07/11/2008 19:42

Allipalli - good to see you back, sounds like you've had a rough time with Peter, hope he continues to improve and that you're also over the worst

AH - enjoy Germany!

Paro - internal massages I bet your dp never expected all this when you had Fleur eh?

hH - well done for sorting out dh

All 3 boys are in bed, off for a cup of tea and to watch tv.

debinaustria · 07/11/2008 19:44

lol Whinegums - I wouldn't dare!!

Hope you have a lovely time with your friend, you deserve a fun weekend

spongebrainbigpants · 07/11/2008 20:04

Essie, lol at the being too short to be a supermodel! I'm 5' 9'' so don't have that problem - mine is the hips, not so much "child" bearing as "whole bloody creche" bearing!!

GF3, thanks for the tips on modelling agencies - still not sure whether I'll pursue it, don't know whether I could cope with the rejection tbh!

Sorry to hear of those babies with viral rashes - very scary. One of our NCT babies has just gone down with chicken pox but thankfully I haven't seen him for a week and a half (had my parents staying) so no danger of Alex getting it - otherwise I wouldn't be coming on Monday guys!

Amber, very at the fireworks display - how amazing!

Hi to everyone else x

Upsidedowncake · 07/11/2008 20:16

Evening everyone - have been lurking

Amber, your HMS ILlustrious sounds rather wonderful, though shame about the litter. I hope you reported them to the Ship's Captain.

Very impressed with all the crazy baby foods available elsewhere. One of our local shops does the full range of American babyfoods which look rather wonderful, but I need to save my pennies for nursery next year. (Also on a tracker rate so pretty chuffed.!)

Alipalli, that viral rash sounds like a bug that C and I had when I was pregnant. It's really nasty and the out of hours doctor actually came out to see C because of the meningitis panic! So sorry that you went through that without your DH and hope you are feeling better.

Paro, sad about your BF days - but one has to give up at some point. Most people don't even last six weeks.

Do you ladies remember my friend in South Africa with the husband not best pleased about her pregnancy? Well, she had a C section yesterday and is doing very well. They seem to do C sections there at the drop of a hat (40+ 3, age 39, head not engaged, baby 3.8 kg = c section!) Her DH is very chuffed at being a daddy, so all seems fine there.

goingfor3 · 07/11/2008 20:23

Upsidedowncake so pleased to hear your friend is doing well and that her husband is pleased about being a daddy!

Paro Sorry you're so sad about bf comming to an end. Even with just the massages your dp gets more action than mine though we were on holiday last week so I had to make an effort and also there was no tv!

spongebrainbigpants · 07/11/2008 20:41

We must be a very chatty thread - started on the 8th oct and nearly finished! Feb 08 started their thread in August and still haven't finished it! Is that a reflection on the age of the babies or the chattiness of the mums?!

katyjo · 07/11/2008 20:48

Paro Big hugs for you, I know how I felt when I gave up but you have done brilliantly UDC is right most bubs don't even get 6 weeks and you've done nearly six months you should be really proud.

debinaustria · 07/11/2008 21:11

Paro, With ds1 I went back to work when he was 5 months and I then started mixed feeding as I couldn't express enough milk. Quite quickly he took less and less from me, especially as he had been on solids for at least a month tooI ended up just doing the last feed of the day and continued until he was 13 months. It was more of a comfort thing I think but it worked for us - maybe an idea for you and Fleur.

UDcake - great news about your friend, send her our congratulations
