Congratualtions Daisy.....don't hold your breath for current employers though. DHs new job is a 10K pay rise (hence my 11 month mat leave next year) and his (now former) employers offered him 3K ....he starts his new job Monday....and I'm anxious already for him ....

Hi everyone else

Have good holidays Jammy and Soprana - you going via Le Shuttle and/or Dover Jammy? you realise there are all sorts of hold-ups down here? May want to leave a little earlier?

Right, I came into work early to work, not Mnet

Bumperlicious · 19/09/2008 08:23

Wotcha buying fury?

I'm am a little ropey this morning after a few glasses of wine last night, yes, I actually went out! Though when I came back at 11 DD was up as she is feeling poorly

Hope you are all well.

Good for the jamlet on her stuff yesterday!

Daisy, great news about DH's job.

Um, I forgot everything else. Soprana, I would say have a good holiday but I am too

Fury I have this bike but not particularly lightweight, only 3 gears but very comfy!

HellHathNoFury · 19/09/2008 08:34

Bumper I like that bike, I was looking at some of the Dawes ones. I am not sure if I should go traditional or hybrid. TBH I think I should just get to a shop and try some out!

I have been buying camera stuff. I bought a Nikon the other day after using Canon for the last few years, and I have been buying cheapy second hand flash guns and lenses and the like. I can't seem to stop myself.

Where did you go, what did you get up to you dirty stop out?

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 19/09/2008 08:46

Morning all

Fury, I swapped to Nikon a couple of years ago after being a Pentax girl for 18 years! I've managed to resist "extras" so far, though I am going to be on the hunt for a decent telephoto lens ready for doing my DNiece's wedding photos next July. I have a reasonable zoom, which is why I have managed to resist so far, but I think I would like a bit extra for doing the wedding.

Norty, we're going from Portsmouth to Caen, so hopefully won't be affected by problems. As we're going to Brittany, travelling all the way down to Dover and then back across through France seemed daft, when we're only an hour and half from Portsmouth. And it's a 3.5 hour crossing, so not too bad.

Bumper, good for you having a night out Hope you're not too ropey this morning?

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 19/09/2008 08:48

Ooooh, DH sent his CV to some companies last night in response to jab adverts and he has had 2 calls already this morning!! He is out taking the car to get something fixed (hope they don't have any problems and we get it back tonight, otherwise we are &%*!ed) but they said they would ring back in an hour.

Bumperlicious · 19/09/2008 09:01

Hope your car is ok jammy.

Fury, just went out for a few drinks with a couple of mummy friends. But it only takes 2 or 3 glasses of wine for me to feel ropey now!

I love my bike! But 3 gears are not so great if you've got hills, but fine if it's a fairly flat route.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 19/09/2008 09:06

Car should be OK Bumper. We had a service a couple of weeks back and something (I forget!) needed doing, and today was the earliest they could fit it in. So in theory they should have all the parts etc as they've had plenty of notice, but there is always the outside chance that something will go wrong.

DH is back now and has had 2 more calls since getting in. Fingers crossed it'll lead to something...

HellHathNoFury · 19/09/2008 09:20

What lenses do you have Jammy? 50mm is good for weddings and not too pricey.

I bought a 16-85DX and an 80-400 which is MASSIVE and v hard to work with but I like it a lot

HellHathNoFury · 19/09/2008 09:22

(I am going to buy a 50mm myself, don't tell DH)

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 19/09/2008 09:46

I have an 18 - 55 lens at the moment Fury. I would like something a bit more telephoto as well, maybe zoom, maybe fixed. I am going to wait until after Xmas and have a look at what's available and what I can afford.

BTW The thing I am least confident about doing this weeding is organising people and taking group photos. So if we manage to arrange a meet up at any point, can I press-gang people into letting me take some group shots?

IamRiallyindisguise · 19/09/2008 09:48

blimey, your DH must be desirable jammy, good luck. Good luck to your DH too norty.

my DH being slightly twunty today, and he got a full nights sleep in an emptybed. I was in with DS2 all night (not restful, and hve a stinking cold). Dh is out at meetings and interviews all day - no freet ime when you're unemployed! He possible has the chance of a 6 week contract ina staff canteen of a fairly well known potato product factory, but he has worked with the agency before and the jobs always seem to be excellent when promised at short notice (he even came back from our holidays a day early to do one) and then theylast about a day. There is a job in a very nice local restaurant though, so fingers crossed for that because it's more "him"

baggins is driving me mad already, he keeps turning the OC off and trying to pull my hair out, which hurts. I am going to have to move the living room furniture so he can't get to the PC.

IamRiallyindisguise · 19/09/2008 09:49

baggins has given me a nose-bleed. today i wish i had a job.

Pumpkinhead · 19/09/2008 09:55

Hi again. Just caught up after another long absence. Not been up to much other than trying to contain a crazy 14 month old boy! Congratulations on all the pregnancies and good luck for all those looking for work. Also hugs to Trace and hi to the new girls! I'm not new but so rarely post that I feel like a new girl too! Going on a girls night tonight and tomorrow me and DH are going clubbing! I'm probably too old to even use that word now . Will need a week off after 2 nights out in a row! Whats everyone else up to this weekend?

Pumpkinhead · 19/09/2008 09:58

Sorry about your nose bleed Ria. My LO loves to smash me in the face with his plastic car - cute.

HellHathNoFury · 19/09/2008 09:58

Jammy I have read that the 18-200 is a superb and versatile lens, but it's about £400. Not sure what your budget is. On the plus side, lenses, unlike bodies, are an investment because they last forever and sell on ebay for pretty much the same price as new, so you can't go wrong really.

I hate doing weddings. you are brave. I stopped doing them last year, I was over it. Feel free to press gang me though.

Ohforfoxsake · 19/09/2008 09:59

where's the typo in your name Ria? I can't see it either! Good luck to DH today, hope something good comes of it, and Mr Jammy too.

And congrats to Mr Daisy! How exciting, you'll have DH at home all the time

We went to pick up DP after school yesterday, so he is back (just in time for the Ryder Cup ). Still its nice to have him home. For now.

Have just introduced LO to The Wiggles (not by perving at the blue wiggle doing pull-ups on youtube. Its so wrong!)

HellHathNoFury · 19/09/2008 10:00

Hi again Pumpkinhead! your ears must have been burning!

Pumpkinhead · 19/09/2008 10:02

I did see my name mentioned! So watch what you say! Trouble is I try and read the thread to catch up and then LO wakes up/falls over/cries etc etc and I never get time to post. Please tell me whats the secret to staying active on Mumsnet?!

LackaDAISYcal · 19/09/2008 10:04

learn to ignore your children

hi again pumpkinhead

OP posts:
Pumpkinhead · 19/09/2008 10:06

Believe me Daisy- I am trying! I think I need another one to give me the perfect excuse!

Ohforfoxsake · 19/09/2008 10:08

Siblings to entertain your LO is the answer Pumpkinhead.

LackaDAISYcal · 19/09/2008 10:09

for example, DD is currently hiding at the side of the sofa emptying the contents of my purse all over the floor. Do I care? Well, kind of but I cant be arsed to hoi my not unimpressive bulk off the sofa and sort her out. DH can pick it up in a minute and it'll make for an interesting shoppping trip later when I can't find any of my cards

does anyone remember what size wraps jbm is after? we are off to Waitrose in a bit. and was it popper or velcro or was she not bothered?

OP posts:
Bumperlicious · 19/09/2008 10:21

Daisy we gave dd her own purse with a bunch of expired credit/gift cards. Seems to have cured her obsession with mine!

Pumpkinhead I second ignoring your children to mumsnet! Actually dd is at on he sofa with me watching ITNG and feeling sorry for herself. No nap .

Pumpkinhead · 19/09/2008 10:34

OK a sibling it is then. My DH wouldn't notice to tidy up the mess that LO makes. Better pack away my big fleecy PJ's and dressing gown and make an effort .
Right, off to see my mum. Have a good day everyone and will try and pop in more often (she says again!) x

LittleMissNorty · 19/09/2008 10:47

I'm a golf widow this weekend as well ....in fact I really hate ESPN classicv channel....every time I go in the lounge "The History of the Ryder Cup" is being watched AGAIN.

I was so releived when Man City scored last night .....no sulking DH for the evening
