'Lo all! Am back from la belle france. Had such a lovely time, really chilled out. Cottages we stayed in were fab - pigs and chickens and sheep and other children so DSD just ran wild in the gardens for a week. Meant me and DH had some time together with Molly, which was brill. Reading through posts before about men feeling useless and babies ignoring them - Mol was like that with DH, but he spent so much lovely time playing with her that she just adores him now. Almost more than me - her little face just lights up when he comes near and she starts giggling, is so sweet. He loves that and consequently is SO much better with her than he was, as he gets much more back. Is not so easy now he's back at work but has defo made things much better.

Plus we got to have sex. Several times! Sorry if TMI but have so missed having a decent sex life since having baby. Holidays are great!

DSD is away this week visiting her aunt and uncle so have DH to myself for a bit longer too . Am using the time also to do a brave thing - am getting Molly to go cold turkey on her dummy. It sounds harsh, but she only feeds once a night now, but I could be up every hour putting her bloody dummy back in as she couldn't get to sleep without it. For both our sanity I need her to be able to sleep on her own. She is on her 3rd night now, and she has never slept so well. She is sleeping until her feed, then going back to sleep after and not waking til 7ish, which is making me a much happier bunny. Her daytime naps are another issue though. She was out all day yesterday so napped in car on the move but today at home and had two masive screaming fits at having to nap without her dummy. Was horrid. Just kept cuddling her and trying to remember that am doing it to help her sleep better but did feel like a poo.

Anyway, am going to have a look through thread now and catch up. Speak tomorrow x

PortAndLemon · 14/08/2008 21:37

We had Baby TV on when we went to visit my brother and SIL last month (their DD is 8 weeks younger than mine). SIL put it on saying "oh, DD likes this". Their DD promptly fell asleep (DD was already asleep). Cue four adults solemnly watching Baby TV for an hour (well, not actually watching, as we were talking and so forth, but no one turned it off).

LadyBee · 14/08/2008 23:22

ha! Love it PAL, when I discovered BabyTV I sat with DS propped up on my legs and watched all about the colours blue and yellow...took quite a while before it occurred to me that the point of this was so that I could get on with something else while DS was being entertained.

Peachy - guess what came in the mail today!!!!!!!
Very cool, thanks again - can't wait to try it out.

I'm pooped - big day out today and lots of effort spent getting DS to sleep.

Ellie you sound very refreshed.

Haven't had time to read the whole day - looking forward to tomorrow's meet up.

VictorianSqualor · 15/08/2008 07:28

Argh!
We are officially The Sick House.
I too have been vomiting. Great.
I shan't come today as I don't want to pass it on to anyone, Am gutted as MiL had even agreed to have DS1 today as he's sick then I started getting ill
Was in bed by 9pm

LadyBee · 15/08/2008 08:17

oh shame VS, had just come on here to give you more detailed directions, but it would be miserable travelling and feeling under the weather, poor you and the rest of your Sick House

Piccalilli2 · 15/08/2008 08:37

Oh VS poor you, it's sooo grim being ill with a baby (and others) to look after.

EllieG I am so jealous of your holidays, sounds fab. We're off to Devon in a few weeks but to in-laws so not quite the same.

Some progress here on the sleep front, Zoe went in her cot at 10 and stayed there til 2. So, still feeding to sleep, still waking at least twice a night, still no hope of an evening to ourselves but at least dh got to start the night in his own bed.

SalLikesCoffee · 15/08/2008 10:03

Oh no VS! Hope you're feeling better soon. Could mil still have ds1 so that you could at least get a bit more rest?

VictorianSqualor · 15/08/2008 10:07

She could have still had him but I was a bit guilty about her agreeing anyway, especially as she works in Paeds at the hospital, I don't want her to get it and take it to work so I've told her not to bother.
I like to save up my babysitting hours anyway

MommyHasaHeadache · 15/08/2008 10:41

Poor you VS. Hope you and the rest of you in the Sick House feel better soon. Was so looking forward to meeting my 1st celeb! ;)

SalLikesCoffee · 15/08/2008 10:52

Ah, that's very thoughtful of you. Good luck! Maybe you could use the saved up babysitting hours for something really, really nice when you're better to make up for this!

scorpio1 · 15/08/2008 13:55

Poor you, VS.

Ellie - yay!! you sound like you are very refreshed, and LOL at the sex

Well, Mimi slept through last night!! 930 - 645. am so chuffed.

DH feels alot better now, he seems to have perked up.

scorpio1 · 15/08/2008 14:57

talks to self.... at all of you meeting up.

VictorianSqualor · 15/08/2008 15:10

OP posts:
scorpio1 · 15/08/2008 15:11

i suppose you couldnt go puking up on everyone, lol!!

How are you now??

Peachy · 15/08/2008 17:42

Picallili where in Devon? (its devon carnival season son so we're down a lot)

dh and I had a massive row today about me going back to work; i'm tempted to get a job and delay pgce as pgce is about 70 hours a week and I can't see how i will manage it; d says I should go back now thenn despite year long waiting list for breakfast club even if they accept ds3 (haven't even broached that ith dh yet)

anyway sorted now; have pointed out to dh that me being upset about leaving the boys and not wanting to is not the same as refusng- I was sole earner before for a while- but am a bit pissed off that he is now sayng he won't deal with the boys dla / statements whilsdt at uni, i will have to do that too. like that's possible

Ideally i should be here due to the boys needs but carers allowance is only £50.51 a week

SalLikesCoffee · 15/08/2008 19:09

Glad it's sorted now, Peachy. Maybe it's just the stress back at work that made dh a bit unreasonable. It really is rediculous that this doesn't change even when they can clearly see the health problems it leads to. Do you think it would ever change?

How are you feeling, VS? Hope you feel better so that you can at least have a nice weekend.

Scorpio, you seem to know the magic sleeping trick! Mimi, please share with Roelof! Not that I should complain, as he went to bed at 8 last night, I fed him at 1, and dh fed again this morning just before 6.

OMaLittle · 15/08/2008 19:51

Hey guess what, that was nearly the same as me - naturally she went down at 9.45 (not 8) and woke at 12.30, 2.30 and 3.30 too, but she DID only feed at 1.30 and 6.30! Amazing. I think we are making real progress. Am trying to let her settle herself too but often she just gets in a rage and a) don't like leaving her like that and b) it will wake everyone up! Am being more steely at naptime, though.

Thank you all so much for your lovely support, and Sal especially for your compliment .

Here's to the end of the tunnel... and me stopping cursing all of you with sleepy babies loudly under my breath during the night feeds!

SalLikesCoffee · 15/08/2008 20:14

Oh OMaLittle, that's WONDERFUL news!!! I cannot tell you how glad I am for you!

scorpio1 · 16/08/2008 10:18

Well done OMa keep doing what you're doing!! I emailed you btw

I have lost 4lbs (have been on a little diet the last 10 days or so)

EllieG · 16/08/2008 12:32

at skinny scorpio. I think I have put on weight on hols, and am still waaaaay over my pre-pg weight. Have decided to be very very good and try and lose it all by xmas though. I hate dieting. It makes me a little bit sad.

Molly was a pig last night. I thought we were getting the no-dummy sleeping sorted at night but last night she woke up at 4.30 and SCREAMED and yelled for an hour and though I cuddled and cuddled she was really overtired and would not go back to sleep. Trouble was, me and DH had been out for a meal and had loads of wine, so was trying to make her feel calm with the beginning of a very nasty hangover. Never again.

I need some advice ladies - have been trying to go cold turkey on dummy including in day. Trouble is, she finds it SO hard to settle herself in the day without it, and when I put her down for a nap we have half an hour of screaming before she finally falls asleep exhausted. This has happened for the last 2 days, and is not nice, obviously. Now, what I am doing is leaving her for a couple of mins as sometimes I find my presence next to her just makes her more hyped up, and keeping going back and stroking head and cuddling when too distressed etc. But should I just use dummy in the day? I thought it might confuse her if allowed in day and not at night, but I really hate her being so unhappy going to sleep. I thought she was beginning to find her fingers as a self-soothing thing but I don't want to cause horrible psychological damage in the process. Is she too little for me to do this? Am I doing the wrong thing? Any suggestions?

scorpio1 · 16/08/2008 12:35

3 day rule

3rd day will be the worst, then it will be fine. you are doing exactly what i would do. i would be reluctant to go in to her, as she will come to expect at night, too.
