Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Peachy · 12/08/2008 18:18

nf1 is a genetric condition and is primarily associated with cafe au lait marks and groeths (which I get), n 40% of kids it causes asd-like symptoms too, so if Bas has it it's lkely the boys were misdiagnosed, we will have to see

scorpio1 · 12/08/2008 18:20

oh, ok, thanks for explaining. guessing its a waiting game?

Peachy · 12/08/2008 18:25

yep, yet another waiting list! Least it's the same Paed

she must dread us

Denny185 · 12/08/2008 19:27

Good re Bas's heart sorry to hear re the poss special needs, if the other boys were misdiagnosed will a change of diagnosis change their management/help they get. V ignorant, never heard of NF1.

Ladybee, at least your groan was inward

Today seemed to be a really long day, out all day and just feel knackered tonight wanting to veg and do nothing but the outlaws arrive tomorrow so have to get the house in some order or they will think Im a lazy trout (which I am but they dont need to know )

SalLikesCoffee · 12/08/2008 20:26

Peachy, I'm so relieved for you that his heart's ok. Sorry to hear about NF1, and best wishes for everything lying ahead. And thanks for the camping tips, will work on dh with my new ammunition.

Well, dh came home and we did the test - still just the 3 of us. We both had that strange "hoping" and then disappointed feeling as we watched the test - even though it would have been slightly quicker than planned and possibly total chaos, part of you still hope. Not sure if it's because I had pcos and we thought it might take years (yeah right, Roelof obv didn't listen to the endocronologyst!!!), or if we're just plain mad. Oh well. Half relieved, half sad.

LadyBee · 12/08/2008 21:07

Peachy, sorry to hear about the possible SN link but such good news about his heart. Hope Bas likes his fruit puree more than formula bottles

Sal, yeah, that half hope / half worry is a strong memory still, doing a test must have brought back a lot of emotions huh? Do you know whether now that you've been pregnant it's affected the PCOS in any way? I kind of feel like it must shake things up, surely, all that hormonal change. Am quite curious myself to go back to consultant once I stop BFing and get tests redone to see whether things have changed at all (I have pcos too)

I keep meaning to ask and then forgetting (mushbrain).

  1. DS has a little bit of nappy rash. I've been using bepanthan (I think, if it's the yellow one, that's what I'm using) and normally it clears it really quickly but it doesn't seem to be this time. Does anyone have any tips for clearing it?
  2. I've just noticed today a sort of browny discoloration on DS's scalp that wasn't there before. Could this be cradlecap starting up? is there anything I can do to stop it getting worse/make it better?
  3. how do you get into their neck creases? I've noticed that DS's looks a little pink and want to make sure I'm cleaning and drying it properly but he just giggles and presses his chin down when I try to get in there. Does anyone have a cunning trick to make them stretch their necks?? Also, the HV recommended petroleum jelly, what do you think?
DonDons · 12/08/2008 21:18

Sorry to read your news Peachy

Lady Bee

  1. have you tried sudocrem?
  2. I don't know if it is cradlecap but it sounds like the same as what DD had a couple of weeks ago - TBH I just kept an eye on it to make sure it didn't look sore and it just went after a couple of days
  3. re neck crease I lay DD down across my legs when I am sitting on the bed, with her head hanging over the edge and she tilts her head back herself (actually she seems to think it is a game as she laughs while she does it). Once she's like this I dive in with bit of damp cotton wool then dry cotton wool, If it looks a bit sore, a spot of sudocrem or E45 usually clears it up by bed time (I sound like an advert for sudocrem)
SalLikesCoffee · 12/08/2008 21:40

Meant to say, hi DonDons. Sorry. See, this is why I shouldn't stay away a full day, by the time I reach the end of the day's postings I've forgotten what I wanted to say at the start...

Ladybee, on Roelof's various chins (or in them to be more correct), I use Green Baby Talc-free baby powder. I put some in my hand (to avoid him inhaling it if I were to just dust it so close to his face), and then play with him, stroking his neck and the creases. He hates me drying there after a bath, but loves it when I do this.
I don't know re PCOS tbh - should investigate a bit I guess. I would have thought that it might sort itself out a little [hoping]. But yes, it was that sad, dragging feeling. Still a bit sad now to tell the truth, but luckily (maybe because of the possibility, not sure) dh made me a "lucky packet" of all kinds of things I like and brought that as a surprise (now in possession of a half-eaten nougat bar, a bag full of japanese bear sweets, soft gums, sticky pad (hmm, I really, really miss stickies and have been moaning thinking out loud(post-its)), jelly bellies and a proper tweezer. Oh, and a sticker and a card. Because apparently lucky packets need stickers.) Awww, he's got his moments [in love emoticon]

Denny185 · 12/08/2008 21:42

Ladybee

  1. Nappy off time B4 bath to let bum air, for DS i used to have quite a large fleece blanket and used to put him in the middle to try and catch any random pee's. Would second the sudocrem if sore.
  2. Sounds like cradle cap, you can get special shampoos. I myself prefer the more delightful option of picking it , I love peeling skin after sunburn too - wierdo alert.
  3. I pick up DD2's rolls of chin and just lift them to get in underneath with cotton wool and then towel. If looking a little sore again I would second the sudocrem.
DonDons · 12/08/2008 21:43
Denny185 · 12/08/2008 22:00

Sorry DonDons, just read back through the rest of the day, welcome back.

SalLikesCoffee · 12/08/2008 23:17

On the socialising topic, I need to really force myself to go to more things for Roelof's sake. Once I'm out I always enjoy it, but quite like just being at home, so do that by default.

Ooh Denny, gross thought, but I'm exactly like you with sunburnt skin... just can't help myself! Especially after a bath. Looking down at my extremely white legs the risk is low at the moment though.

Ladybee, how did your evening session go in the end?

chipmonkey · 13/08/2008 00:42

Peachy, so glad Bas's heart is fine.
Try not to worry too much about the NF1, at least till you get a firm diagnosis. I know it's not easy.

Peachy · 13/08/2008 11:21

thanks all

good news in Bas loves his food so weaning wil be a cinch I think, we've been told to stick to higher calorie things like squash (the butternut, not the chemical fruit drink LOL)< banana, sweet pots etc and hid first meal, butternut and banana, went down so well a whole serving was taken (about 2/3 of one of those freezer baby pots)

Bepanthen is normally great imo, if it doesn't clear consider thrush? ladybee if you cat me your addy I have a lovely fleece gadget for nappy free time (a mat that poppers around nappy area) that I cannot use as Bas too eager to practse crawling and won't lie down LOL

Right, off to the museum!

Oh Sal ds1 was 5 months when ds2 was very deliberately conceived, it's not that hard having 2 in baby stage really, no harder than a bigger gap ime, just different

Peachy · 13/08/2008 11:24

Oh for the first time in years i have a tan post-hols , ds3 has a strong one but he's like dh, only has to look at the sun and it hapens. Kept Bas protected whole tme but still a touch- I had to explain to Paed that although dh is white, he's of unknown ancestry and definitely on the darker side- often mistaken for portugese (American likely, airbase near where fil was left for adoption iyswim!!).

LadyBee · 13/08/2008 11:30

Sal - how sweet of your DH, especially remembering to include post-its and a sticker, so are you a closet stationery freak?
I will always remember the day DP bought me a miniature desk set just because he thought I'd appreciate the little stapler, pencil sharpener and (best of all) mini-post-its. He doesn't get the attraction himself but he caters to my fondness for all things paper/pen-related without question
Yesterday evening was great - took up a sandwich and ate that half way through, plugged in & listened to several podcasts so now feel as though I know a bit more about what's going on in the world. Bath was good and he fed from 6-7:30 fell asleep easily and stayed asleep until 11:30 when I dreamfed him before I went to bed myself after comfort supper of macaroni cheese All very relaxing.
We also had a lovely lie-in this morning, after he woke at around 5 and I changed and fed him he decided that it was time to play (this is DPs fault, he's been getting up to do the first nappy and seems to think that because he's awake there's no point in trying to re-settle DS so plays with him. Fed DS again around 6:30 and he just dozed and fed on and off until about 9 which meant that I dozed til then too. Very cosy and snuffly.
oh well. Have done hardly anything houseworky so far this week..should go and start on the laundry mountain.

Thanks for the answers to my questions as well - will try sudocrem and see about the powder thing..haven't got any in the house so will see if I can find any non-talc stuff when I'm next out.

LadyBee · 13/08/2008 11:33

ooh peachy, x-post. That sounds great, will CAT you! Thanks so much!

chipmonkey · 13/08/2008 11:39

Peachy, you'll have him on fruitshoots and Greggs in no time at all!

SalLikesCoffee · 13/08/2008 12:19

Hehehe, Bas will show all those busybodies now!!! When he's all double chins and elastic band arms you should walk past that annoying assistant of earlier with a smug smile. I don't get the obsession with weight gain in the early stages - as long as they're healthy surely that's fine - they'll end up grown-ups just the same, whether gradual weight gain or loads at first and then slower. I think it's a "little power" thing with some people though - give them some kind of authority (or in their minds anyway) and they feel the need to tell everyone how to live their lives. lol at chipmonkey's comment.

Yep, Ladybee, have this thing about stationery (amongst others ). I can still clearly remember the first time I wrote with a gel pen. Was the best thing ever. lol, how spectacularly sad am I???
Now see, something like that desk set gift your dh gave you is the most romantic thing ever in my mind. Shows interest and effort (and probably acceptance of the "or worse" part of the promise, hehehe). A boyfriend once gave me diamond earrings and then told me how he bought it through a contact, cheaply, bla bla bla. I broke up with him (and offered to return the earrings) shortly after. He missed the point.
My dh on the other hand made wrote me a cd with all the songs we listened to when we started seeing eachother romantically (we were friends anyway for years before), and made a cover with pics of all the things I like. I married him. Men can save themselves lots of money if they tried understanding (or rather accepting, first option might be unreasonable in my case ) women.
Phew, sorry, got carried away there.

SalLikesCoffee · 13/08/2008 12:28

Ladybee, if you want to try some of that powder before you buy it (in case you don't like it), I could bring mine with to Friday's meetup? The shop (GreenBaby) is near me, so I could also buy you some and bring with if you fancied, so just shout.

SalLikesCoffee · 13/08/2008 12:37

Only thing with powders that bothers me slightly is that you have to be very careful so that they don't inhale it. Talc is dangerous (or I think so, not sure if any cancer or other link has been proven, but I remember there were serious health issues with it), but even if natural ingredients like this one, I always treat it like dust - you wouldn't want him to inhale it, so I just don't dust around his face, but rather "apply" it. Might be a bit pfb-ish, not sure.

Peachy · 13/08/2008 13:31

you can get liquid talcs- mothercare and avent both do them- that have the same effect but are not powdery, I use those.

I think you're right about the little power- Bas was tryng to crawl / roll off the excamining table and Paed was laughing about that so nt exactly unfir is he?

Also am a stationery nut, oncw had an almost-romance (lived a bit far away- as in another country!)) with a colleague based on a shared likng on post-its PMSL

dh bought me a necklace our first Christmas together and we'd only been together a few weeks, based on my previous relationships / fiance I had just left, I was amazed how like diamonds cubic zirconia could look and told him so.....

It was diamond

SalLikesCoffee · 13/08/2008 13:39

PMSL Peachy!!!

VictorianSqualor · 13/08/2008 13:39

Sal, DP&I are stationary freaks too
I love writing in a new pad and get really pissed off if anyone writes in my pads. I have been known to screw up, rewrite and throw away a whole a4 page of writing (I' writing a novel) just because my handwriting wasn't neat enough......

scorpio1 · 13/08/2008 13:41

The HV told me to wean Mimi today

She has put on a pound and 6 oz in 3 weeks though....on purely BM so me thinks she is just fine!she is 13lb 10oz now. Also 99.9th centile for height

She was up again last night. i am very very tired, have no milk to express anything worthwhile and Mimi is very hard to feed. Will continue with just BM for another 2 weeks when i have to back to clinic again.

Argued with HV that i would rather formula than wean; she said 'in my 30 years' blah blah DH agrees with her though. tough all round then innit.
