Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
scorpio1 · 12/08/2008 11:31

i was told yesterday, by a BF support worker, that i could give Mimi baby rice now. (16 wks)

errrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, no thanks.

DonDons · 12/08/2008 11:36

Hi everyone - would be okay if I 're'-joined? I have been flitting around since having DD and have lurked on your thread a fair bit - picking up some great advice.

DD is 16 weeks this week - can't believe how fast it is going especially after the long and drawn out pregnancy. Things are going well by and by and still managing to BF - but I need to ask - does anybody else find motherhood so incredibly lonely?

scorpio1 · 12/08/2008 11:38

it is very lonely for me. i find it hard to make steps towards making new friends, like asking to meet up for coffee etc. my dh works alot and is training at the mo so i get little adult company.

do you go to any groups or anything?

Peachy · 12/08/2008 11:39

17 weeks is the absolute earliest, Scorpio and then only in rare cases that baby is clearly indicating readiness; generally its much later. Might be worth asking when she trained, that was the correct advice once.

bas has had a little bit of apple to chew on while we were away as he was teethng and trying to steal the food off my plate, but nto really 'eating'

scorpio1 · 12/08/2008 11:41

recently trained peachy, she is my age and forever on courses - she works for childrens centre. i dont wana spoon feed her mush, lol! im not going to.

DonDons · 12/08/2008 11:42

no - I did look into some but they were all quite far away. I am hoping to start a baby signing class in September (just for the social aspect TBH) but otherwise I try to catch up with my existing friends IYSWIM but they are all at different stages in their lives ie kids are alot older or they are singletons.

I am not really one for approaching people and saying let's meet up etc so am partially dreading the signing class but I worry that DD is missing out. I generally enjoy my own company but when it is day after day it does get a bit tedious!

Piccalilli2 · 12/08/2008 11:44

DonDons, I found my first mat leave hellishly lonely but am enjoying this one much more as I have a good NCT crowd. It helps to get out and about. You're in Sheffield, right? There's a good postnatal aquarobics class at King Edwards pool on a Friday (volunteers mind the babies)...or if you're bored and fancy meeting for a coffee some time or trying out a baby activity then just let me know.

scorpio1 · 12/08/2008 11:44

i too like my own company; it has been better since ds1 started at school because i see adults every day then. i used to feel bad for the dc, i do arrange stuff sometimes, they have each other & nursery...enough really.

i find group things less intimidating.

scorpio1 · 12/08/2008 11:44

dont have nct here.

DonDons · 12/08/2008 11:48

thanks picallili - i may take you up on that offer if this bloody rain ever stops. we usually take dd swimming on a friday afternoon (dh doesn't work on fridays) but I will bear that in mind

i think I missed out on nct groups as we went to the condensed ante-natal classes which seemed a good idea at the time. Hey ho - hopefully the signing class will be good - has anybody tried it before?

scorpio1 · 12/08/2008 11:50

my ds2 was a signing baby/toddler - its fab. we talked about it earlier this week, search down the thread

VictorianSqualor · 12/08/2008 12:06

I'm not really into groups either tbh, not too interested in signing, didn't care for ante-natal classes, esp as my preg/labour was complicated so it wouldn't have really been apt for me anyway, and breastfeeding/weaning I'm such a stuck-in-the-mud about I'd end up arguing if someone gave the wrong info!
At least at the babycafe I'll be one of the ones giving info, rather than receiving it or I'd be stuffed

OP posts:
DonDons · 12/08/2008 12:09

glad it's not just me! i don't intend to be anti-social i'm just rubbish at getting to know new people and totally clam up in groups... but I will face my demons!

chipmonkey · 12/08/2008 12:36

BTW, scorpio, Millie had oral thrush, hadn't she? Did she get it on her lips? Just that ds4 has a few little white patches on his tongue but also a scaly patch on his lip. I can pick up some gel OTC but just hoping I'm treating the right thing.

scorpio1 · 12/08/2008 13:07

No, not on her lips, but a big thick white layer on her tongue and stubborn white spots in her mouth. it was very ouch for me, indeed.

Am very tired today. Mimi just would not settle last night - 10.30-1.30 , 4am, 6 am. so unlike her. i am getting a bit annoyed at being the only one who has to get up, etc. DH swans in from work, goes back out training, and i havent had sex since saturday Sorry, just annoyed today.

Is it 6 months for wweaning (October 19th?), 24 or 26 weeks please? Have feeling its 26.

Piccalilli2 · 12/08/2008 13:12

26 weeks, I think.

I'm getting fed up with being the only one doing the night feeds too. Last night was midnight, 2:20, 3:30, 5 and 6. Dh is not only not getting up but has started moaning about me making him sleep in the spare room (otherwise I worry about him squishing her and get no sleep at all).

scorpio1 · 12/08/2008 13:13

dh doesnt moan, i think he feels sorry for me, but god could i poke his eyes out in the night!!

VictorianSqualor · 12/08/2008 13:21

Yep, 26 weeks.
But if you're doing BLW, you can do food play from as early as they can sit up unaided and pick food up, then they'll gradually go from squishing it on their face and hands to actually chewing it and swallowing it.

OP posts:
scorpio1 · 12/08/2008 13:21

cool, thanks. will be doing blw

VictorianSqualor · 12/08/2008 14:28

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

OP posts:
chipmonkey · 12/08/2008 14:54

hmm, not sure if it is thrush but pharmacist says it will do no harm to treat anyway so will see if it clears it up.

LadyBee · 12/08/2008 17:19

I found it all horribly isolated and lonely at the beginning and had to work very hard to find groups and activities to get myself out of the house. I'm naturally more an introvert but just forced myself to do it, and tbh it wasn't as difficult talking to strangers as I thought it was going to be because there is the baby, your pregnancy, delivery, etc all ready as topics of conversation that you know te other person can join in with
I did do antenatal classes and thought it was going to be a complete washout on the social aspect but it's actually worked out really well. We've settled on a regular day to meet up but not everyone goes every week and we'll let each other know if we're doing other stuff in case someone fancies company. Still, I tend to only have the energy to do something maybe two, max three days a week and like to potter around home the rest. I find it restorative to be in adult company but knackering getting there (normally on public transport) and having all the 'being out' gumpf for DS to handle.

VS, I think you and DC are better off without that kind of aggravation/disappointment. Tell her to make a plan and stick to it or not see the DC.

I've just had to give myself a kick up the backside, when it got to 4:30 and I did a big inward 'grooaaannnn' - it just feels like from that time on it's just one looonngg effort aimed at getting DS into bed. But today is going to be different - today I am chilled and am going enjoy our evening wind-down and when he does go to sleep I am going to have a lovely glass of wine to finish it off.

Peachy · 12/08/2008 18:12

Just got back from Paed

Bas's heart fne

But they're not happy about weight and also the birthmark he has is as I thought, possibly NF1 which can replicate ASD symptoms....so he's been referred to our usual Paed for investigation into that whch is a bit as it looks like he may well be Sn after all

but there you go, that'slife, its a risk took

Oh and vs- YANBU.

Oh p[aed has started Bas on weaning, they need to know if he will gain weight on an alternative diet to BM (at least they didn't push FM) before he is seen by Paed, so it's fruit puree tonight. Out go the BLW plans but health needs come first I guess.

srious srense of deja vue, don't want to beleivre but feeling mighty worried

VictorianSqualor · 12/08/2008 18:15

You can always do a kind of BLW once Bas is a bit older and able to help himself.

Great about his heart, not so great about the SN. hopefully if he does have SN it won't be too severe.

OP posts:
scorpio1 · 12/08/2008 18:15

great about his heart

v sorry for ignorance, but nf1? what is his birthmark - how does that link?

hope you are ok tonight.
