Isabellasmam - we bought this nice cot activity centre V tech I think, not cheap for DS but it kept waking us up as he got old enough to press buttons in the night. You would hear old macdonald randomly throughout the night. That quickly came off cot and has never been used since Poor DD has to make do with a mirror and soft toy on her cot!!

Also had a sleeping bag from mothercare with poppers up side. You try seeing to put poppers together in dark!!

Madmouse - interesting about spoon feeding, had never thought about it. Just thought if they opened mouth and squeaked you were not quick enough!! Deffo makes sense though.

madmouse · 08/08/2008 21:57

simpson what are you going to do in Holland?

Just Dutch girl being nosy

Housemum · 08/08/2008 22:12

Never mind 2nd-child-syndrome just wait till it's number 3! Saying that, could be good for her - she's happy being entertained with just one toy as I can't be bothered/haven't time to find anything else!

Muslins - I bought more!! Guess it depends if you have a sicky baby.

Useless stuff - baby oil, talc (except some expensive stuff I use a tiny bit of - Burt's Baby Bees) - never bought top & tail but was tempted each time (used plastic containers from takeaway), skirts (they always end up under her armpits or pulling her nappy down)

Grobags - love them but DD3 v hot so sleeps in just sleepsuit & nappy.

simpson · 08/08/2008 22:15

Madmouse - we are going to place near Goes. Have rented big apartment there is me and DH, the 2 dcs, my mum and 2 brothers.

DH and both brothers are going to Amsterdam for one night me and Mum will look after DCs. Don't know what else we will do really just eat and drink We are near beach (within walking distance) so I guess some time will be spent there. I can't wait!!

simpson · 08/08/2008 22:22

Housemum - definately tac & baby oil.I also bought loads of wet wipes when pg with DS and didn't use them till he was nearly 1!!

Bought loads of cute little outfits in newborn or 0 -3 mths for DS and weather was so hot in Aug I think he spent the first 8 wks of his life in just vest and nappy!! At least DD got to wear some of them.

Isabellasmam · 08/08/2008 22:27

just found a massive pack of cotton wool that never got used .

just spent £100 on photos of dd and could of spent a lot more. thought i was getting a real bargain when i got a 20 minute shoot and large photo for £5, they must have seen me coming!!

madmouse · 08/08/2008 22:30

Simpson go to Bruges (Belgium is not far from there) and shopping in Rotterdam is good. But it is beautiful in Zeeland (Sea -land as the province is called) I have family on the southern most island.

simpson · 08/08/2008 22:42

Madmouse - cheers for tips Have been to Bruge before (dirty weekend with ex!!) and loved it although it was winter and very cold. At least I will be able to eat and drink what i want this year.

My youngest brother and DH are cycling door to door and leaving 4 days before us. They are going through belgium on the way.

nicky6 · 09/08/2008 10:43

ok just a quickie while dd asleep, and dh out at tai chi, holiday booked we are off to morocco on 23rd aug. any of you that have been away recently with lo on 3 meals a day do you pack their food in hand baggage cos presume it will freeze if in the hold with normal luggage.

dont know what shops if any are there and we arrive late st night so shops unlikely to be open on the sunday either

thought might just take baby cereal, milk obviously, those organix fruit purees and ellas pouches none of which need refrigerating and some jars of food for lunch - yikes bigger case anyone.

we have stopped sterilising here fluffy after lots of people said after 6months not really worth it but now thinking of buying sterilizing tablets to take away.

LaTrucha · 09/08/2008 12:03

Hi all

Nicky - I think you're allowed to take a reasonable amount for the flight in your hand luggage. They might make you taste it. They did me when I had a bottle of EBM on plane when DD was 3 months . Ewwwwwww!

MM - glad physio is good. How do you feel about job reduction?

Housemum - lol about skirts. I always look at them . You have confirmed my suspicions.

Simpon - LOl at Old McDOnald!

JKS - A cautionary tale! I leave the baby on the bed to nip into the bathroom. I always think she's safe

Isabella - I didn't use the monitor for the first 5 months! She was always with us. Or her first size growbags, though she's in them now. I find all the toys people buy us that do not make noises just sit on the shelf. And I've been given four of those musical things where you pull a cord and the music goes for about 20 seconds. Nic....for 20 seconds...

Sleeping seems to be settling here. Bed 8-9, wakes for feed 2-3 and again at 5 to come into bed with me for napping/feeding. She's in her cot until then. Yay! This is a vast improvement.

I find muslins the best bibs. Covers just about everything. And sleeves and trouser legs rolled up.

How many of you mummies of girls find dresses in general too much of a FAFF!?

All well here. More visitors, though very easy ones.

God I love the Olympics! Don't you?

simpson · 09/08/2008 13:11

Hi all

DD is a bit improved today some crying and straining but has managed 2 poos.

Have cut down her food and she has only had pureed fruit for breakfast. She has not wanted to take more milk though to make up for it has managed 7ozs today so far. Was going to give her lunch at 1ish but she has gone down for nap so think I will just give bottle when she wakes and solids for tea.

Madmouse - am doing the apple & prune thing now before visitors get here later

Horrid horrid weather here. DS is watching tellytubbies as I type.

Still tired today but DD went till 4am so a bit better. Think it was her poor tum that woke her (so definately the baby rice) as there was more straining.

My 90 yr old gran is coming to visit today and she is difficult to say the least. Goes on about how many toys DS has and if she can't see the (one toy she has EVER bought DS) on display she sulks for the whole visit. Thinks children should be seen not heard etc. Oh well my mum will be here to help.

madmouse · 09/08/2008 13:42

Nicky yes to taking tablets with you although of course it is bottled water all the way.

expect shops open 10pm plus for fresh ripe fruit to puree wih a fork and maybe jars of babyfood.

LT mixed feelings re work. financially we are secure as house comes with dhs job and we do not pay water or council tax. love my job but already had to give up fave part when reducing to 4 days - speaking at conferences, training staff and doing battle with government in stakeholder groups etc. on the other hand i can go swimming with nathan and go to music class and i can put as much into my clergy wife role as i want to. see how it pans out. could not be sahm though - although it is a worthy vocation it is not mine.

simpon good for poos. give her time to accept more milk.

LaTrucha · 09/08/2008 14:00

Before I forget - For the B'ham meet up - I have two vouchers which I THINK allow an adult to get in free to the Sealife Centre if another adult buys a ticket. I'm sure we can divvy them up somehow.

lilyloo · 09/08/2008 14:35

afternoon been raining her all day

Simpson she should start feeling better soon then i imagine if she managing to poo.

Well i won the jumperoo paid a bit more than i hoped but still half price to the shops ! DP and DS just gone to collect it !

DD1 asleep and dd2 is in a funny mood today just catnapping , whingy when put down etc. So my house a bomb site after being stuck in all day and she won't let me get on cleaning it !

I also feeling shattered as i was up from 1 until 4 last night feeling ill and was eventually sick then went back to sleep. Was even lay on the bathroom floor at one point as felt so rough! On the plus side dd only up 3 times in the night
